Genesis 3
WEB·Genesis 3
1Now the serpent was more subtle than any animal of the field which Yahweh God had made. He said to the woman, “Has God really said, ‘You shall not eat of any tree of the garden’?”
KJVNow the serpentH5175 wasH1961(H8804) more subtilH6175 than any beastH2416 of the fieldH7704 which the LORDH3068 GodH430 had madeH6213(H8804). And he saidH559(H8799) unto the womanH802, YeaH637, hath GodH430 saidH559(H8804), Ye shall not eatH398(H8799) of every treeH6086 of the gardenH1588?
2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees of the garden,
KJVAnd the womanH802 saidH559(H8799) unto the serpentH5175, We may eatH398(H8799) of the fruitH6529 of the treesH6086 of the gardenH1588:
3 but not the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden. God has said, ‘You shall not eat of it. You shall not touch it, lest you die.’”
KJVBut of the fruitH6529 of the treeH6086 which is in the midstH8432 of the gardenH1588, GodH430 hath saidH559(H8804), Ye shall not eatH398(H8799) of it, neither shall ye touchH5060(H8799) it, lestH6435 ye dieH4191(H8799).
4 The serpent said to the woman, “You won’t really die,
KJVAnd the serpentH5175 saidH559(H8799) unto the womanH802, Ye shall not surelyH4191(H8800) dieH4191(H8799):
5 for God knows that in the day you eat it, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
KJVFor GodH430 doth knowH3045(H8802) that in the dayH3117 ye eatH398(H8800) thereof, then your eyesH5869 shall be openedH6491(H8738), and ye shall be as godsH430, knowingH3045(H8802) goodH2896 and evilH7451.
6 When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took some of its fruit, and ate. Then she gave some to her husband with her, and he ate it, too.
KJVAnd when the womanH802 sawH7200(H8799) that the treeH6086 was goodH2896 for foodH3978, and that itH1931 was pleasantH8378 to the eyesH5869, and a treeH6086 to be desiredH2530(H8737) to make one wiseH7919(H8687), she tookH3947(H8799) of the fruit thereofH6529, and did eatH398(H8799), and gaveH5414(H8799) alsoH1571 unto her husbandH376 with her; and he did eatH398(H8799).
7 Their eyes were opened, and they both knew that they were naked. They sewed fig leaves together, and made coverings for themselves.
KJVAnd the eyesH5869 of them bothH8147 were openedH6491(H8735), and theyH1992 knewH3045(H8799) that they were nakedH5903; and they sewedH8609 figH8384 leavesH5929 togetherH8609(H8799), and made themselvesH6213(H8799) apronsH2290.
8 They heard Yahweh God’s voice walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of Yahweh God among the trees of the garden.
KJVAnd they heardH8085(H8799) the voiceH6963 of the LORDH3068 GodH430 walkingH1980(H8693) in the gardenH1588 in the coolH7307 of the dayH3117: and AdamH120 and his wifeH802 hid themselvesH2244(H8691) from the presenceH6440 of the LORDH3068 GodH430 amongstH8432 the treesH6086 of the gardenH1588.
9 Yahweh God called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?”
KJVAnd the LORDH3068 GodH430 calledH7121(H8799) unto AdamH120, and saidH559(H8799) unto him, Where art thouH335?
10 The man said, “I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; so I hid myself.”
KJVAnd he saidH559(H8799), I heardH8085(H8804) thy voiceH6963 in the gardenH1588, and I was afraidH3372(H8799), because IH595 was nakedH5903; and I hid myselfH2244(H8735).
11 God said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”
KJVAnd he saidH559(H8799), WhoH4310 toldH5046(H8689) thee that thou wast nakedH5903? Hast thou eatenH398(H8804) of the treeH6086, whereof I commanded theeH6680(H8765) that thou shouldest notH1115 eatH398(H8800)?
12 The man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”
KJVAnd the manH120 saidH559(H8799), The womanH802 whom thou gavestH5414(H8804) to be with meH5978, sheH1931 gaveH5414(H8804) me of the treeH6086, and I did eatH398(H8799).
13 Yahweh God said to the woman, “What have you done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
KJVAnd the LORDH3068 GodH430 saidH559(H8799) unto the womanH802, What is this that thou hast doneH6213(H8804)? And the womanH802 saidH559(H8799), The serpentH5175 beguiled meH5377(H8689), and I did eatH398(H8799).
14 Yahweh God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, you are cursed above all livestock, and above every animal of the field. You shall go on your belly and you shall eat dust all the days of your life.
KJVAnd the LORDH3068 GodH430 saidH559(H8799) unto the serpentH5175, Because thouH859 hast doneH6213(H8804) this, thou art cursedH779(H8803) above all cattleH929, and above every beastH2416 of the fieldH7704; upon thy bellyH1512 shalt thou goH3212(H8799), and dustH6083 shalt thou eatH398(H8799) all the daysH3117 of thy lifeH2416:
15 I will put hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will bruise your head, and you will bruise his heel.”
KJVAnd I will putH7896(H8799) enmityH342 between thee and the womanH802, and between thy seedH2233 and her seedH2233; it shall bruiseH7779(H8799) thy headH7218, and thou shalt bruiseH7779(H8799) his heelH6119.
16 To the woman he said, “I will greatly multiply your pain in childbirth. You will bear children in pain. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.”
KJVUnto the womanH802 he saidH559(H8804), I will greatlyH7235(H8687) multiplyH7235(H8686) thy sorrowH6093 and thy conceptionH2032; in sorrowH6089 thou shalt bring forthH3205(H8799) childrenH1121; and thy desireH8669 shall be to thy husbandH376, and he shall ruleH4910(H8799) over thee.
17 To Adam he said, “Because you have listened to your wife’s voice, and have eaten from the tree, about which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it,’ the ground is cursed for your sake. You will eat from it with much labor all the days of your life.
KJVAnd unto AdamH121 he saidH559(H8804), Because thou hast hearkenedH8085(H8804) unto the voiceH6963 of thy wifeH802, and hast eatenH398(H8799) of the treeH6086, of whichH834 I commanded theeH6680(H8765), sayingH559(H8800), Thou shalt not eatH398(H8799) of it: cursedH779(H8803) is the groundH127 for thy sake; in sorrowH6093 shalt thou eatH398(H8799) of it allH3605 the daysH3117 of thy lifeH2416;
18 It will yield thorns and thistles to you; and you will eat the herb of the field.
KJVThorns alsoH6975 and thistlesH1863 shall it bring forthH6779(H8686) to thee; and thou shalt eatH398(H8804) the herbH6212 of the fieldH7704;
19 You will eat bread by the sweat of your face until you return to the ground, for you were taken out of it. For you are dust, and you shall return to dust.”
KJVIn the sweatH2188 of thy faceH639 shalt thou eatH398(H8799) breadH3899, tillH5704 thou returnH7725(H8800) unto the groundH127; for out of it wast thou takenH3947(H8795): for dustH6083 thouH859 art, and unto dustH6083 shalt thou returnH7725(H8799).
20 The man called his wife Eve because she would be the mother of all the living.
KJVAnd AdamH120 calledH7121(H8799) his wife'sH802 nameH8034 EveH2332; because she was the motherH517 of all livingH2416.
21 Yahweh God made garments of animal skins for Adam and for his wife, and clothed them.
KJVUnto AdamH120 also and to his wifeH802 did the LORDH3068 GodH430 makeH6213(H8799) coatsH3801 of skinsH5785, and clothed themH3847(H8686).
22 Yahweh God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil. Now, lest he reach out his hand, and also take of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever—”
KJVAnd the LORDH3068 GodH430 saidH559(H8799), BeholdH2005, the manH120 is become as oneH259 of us, to knowH3045(H8800) goodH2896 and evilH7451: and now, lest he put forthH7971(H8799) his handH3027, and takeH3947(H8804) also of the treeH6086 of lifeH2416, and eatH398(H8804), and liveH2425(H8804) for everH5769:
23 Therefore Yahweh God sent him out from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from which he was taken.
KJVTherefore the LORDH3068 GodH430 sent him forthH7971(H8762) from the gardenH1588 of EdenH5731, to tillH5647(H8800) the groundH127 from whence he was takenH3947(H8795).
24 So he drove out the man; and he placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.
KJVSo he drove outH1644(H8762) the manH120; and he placedH7931(H8686) at the eastH6924 of the gardenH1588 of EdenH5731 CherubimsH3742, and a flamingH3858 swordH2719 which turned every wayH2015(H8693), to keepH8104(H8800) the wayH1870 of the treeH6086 of lifeH2416.
