¹When the king lived in his house, and Yahweh had given him rest from all his enemies all around,

KJVAnd it came to pass, when the king^H4428 sat^H3427^(H8804) in his house^H1004, and the LORD^H3068 had given him rest^H5117^(H8689) round about^H5439 from all his enemies^H341^(H8802);

² the king said to Nathan the prophet, “See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but God’s ark dwells within curtains.”

³ Nathan said to the king, “Go, do all that is in your heart, for Yahweh is with you.”

KJVAnd Nathan^H5416 said^H559^(H8799) to the king^H4428, Go^H3212^(H8798), do^H6213^(H8798) all that is in thine heart^H3824; for the LORD^H3068 is with thee.

⁴ That same night, Yahweh’s word came to Nathan, saying,

⁵ “Go and tell my servant David, ‘Yahweh says, “Should you build me a house for me to dwell in?

KJVGo^H3212^(H8798) and tell^H559^(H8804) my servant^H5650 David^H1732, Thus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068, Shalt thou build^H1129^(H8799) me an house^H1004 for me to dwell in^H3427^(H8800)?

⁶ For I have not lived in a house since the day that I brought the children of Israel up out of Egypt, even to this day, but have moved around in a tent and in a tabernacle.

KJVWhereas I have not dwelt^H3427^(H8804) in any house^H1004 since the time^H3117 that I brought up^H5927^(H8687) the children^H1121 of Israel^H3478 out of Egypt^H4714, even to this day^H3117, but have walked^H1980^(H8693) in a tent^H168 and in a tabernacle^H4908.

⁷ In all places in which I have walked with all the children of Israel, did I say a word to anyone from the tribes of Israel whom I commanded to be shepherd of my people Israel, saying, ‘Why have you not built me a house of cedar?’”’

⁸ Now therefore tell my servant David this: ‘Yahweh of Armies says, “I took you from the sheep pen, from following the sheep, to be prince over my people, over Israel.

KJVNow therefore so shalt thou say^H559^(H8799) unto my servant^H5650 David^H1732, Thus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635, I took^H3947^(H8804) thee from the sheepcote^H5116, from following^H310 the sheep^H6629, to be ruler^H5057 over my people^H5971, over Israel^H3478:

⁹ I have been with you wherever you went, and have cut off all your enemies from before you. I will make you a great name, like the name of the great ones who are on the earth.

KJVAnd I was with thee whithersoever thou wentest^H1980^(H8804), and have cut off^H3772^(H8686) all thine enemies^H341^(H8802) out of thy sight^H6440, and have made^H6213^(H8804) thee a great^H1419 name^H8034, like unto the name^H8034 of the great^H1419 men that are in the earth^H776.

¹⁰ I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place and be moved no more. The children of wickedness will not afflict them any more, as at the first,

¹¹ and as from the day that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. I will cause you to rest from all your enemies. Moreover Yahweh tells you that Yahweh will make you a house.

KJVAnd as since the time^H3117 that I commanded^H6680^(H8765) judges^H8199^(H8802) to be over my people^H5971 Israel^H3478, and have caused thee to rest^H5117^(H8689) from all thine enemies^H341^(H8802). ¹² When your days are fulfilled and you sleep with your fathers, I will set up your offspring after you, who will proceed out of your body, and I will establish his kingdom.

KJVAnd when thy days^H3117 be fulfilled^H4390^(H8799), and thou shalt sleep^H7901^(H8804) with thy fathers^H1, I will set up^H6965^(H8689) thy seed^H2233 after^H310 thee, which shall proceed^H3318^(H8799) out of thy bowels^H4578, and I will establish^H3559^(H8689) his kingdom^H4467.

¹³ He will build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.

KJVHe shall build^H1129^(H8799) an house^H1004 for my name^H8034, and I will stablish^H3559^(H8790) the throne^H3678 of his kingdom^H4467 for^H5704 ever^H5769.

¹⁴ I will be his father, and he will be my son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the stripes of the children of men;

KJVI will be his father^H1, and he shall be my son^H1121. If he commit iniquity^H5753^(H8687), I will chasten^H3198^(H8689) him with the rod^H7626 of men^H582, and with the stripes^H5061 of the children^H1121 of men^H120:

¹⁵ but my loving kindness will not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before you.

¹⁶ Your house and your kingdom will be made sure forever before you. Your throne will be established forever.”’”

¹⁷ Nathan spoke to David all these words, and according to all this vision.

¹⁸ Then David the king went in and sat before Yahweh; and he said, “Who am I, Lord Yahweh, and what is my house, that you have brought me this far?

KJVThen went^H935^(H8799) king^H4428 David^H1732 in, and sat^H3427^(H8799) before^H6440 the LORD^H3068, and he said^H559^(H8799), Who am I, O Lord^H136 GOD^H3069? and what is my house^H1004, that thou hast brought^H935^(H8689) me hitherto^H1988?

¹⁹ This was yet a small thing in your eyes, Lord Yahweh, but you have spoken also of your servant’s house for a great while to come; and this among men, Lord Yahweh!

KJVAnd this was yet a small thing^H6994^(H8799) in thy sight^H5869, O Lord^H136 GOD^H3069; but thou hast spoken^H1696^(H8762) also of thy servant's^H5650 house^H1004 for a great while to come^H7350. And is this the manner^H8452 of man^H120, O Lord^H136 GOD^H3069?

²⁰ What more can David say to you? For you know your servant, Lord Yahweh.

KJVAnd what can^H3254 David^H1732 say^H1696^(H8763) more^H3254^(H8686) unto thee? for thou, Lord^H136 GOD^H3069, knowest^H3045^(H8804) thy servant^H5650.

²¹ For your word’s sake, and according to your own heart, you have worked all this greatness, to make your servant know it.

KJVFor thy word's^H1697 sake, and according to thine own heart^H3820, hast thou done^H6213^(H8804) all these great things^H1420, to make thy servant^H5650 know^H3045^(H8687) them.

²² Therefore you are great, Yahweh God. For there is no one like you, neither is there any God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

KJVWherefore thou art great^H1431^(H8804), O LORD^H3068 God^H430: for there is none like thee, neither is there any God^H430 beside^H2108 thee, according to all that we have heard^H8085^(H8804) with our ears^H241.

²³ What one nation on the earth is like your people, even like Israel, whom God went to redeem to himself for a people, and to make himself a name, and to do great things for you, and awesome things for your land, before your people, whom you redeemed to yourself out of Egypt, from the nations and their gods?

KJVAnd what one^H259 nation^H1471 in the earth^H776 is like thy people^H5971, even like Israel^H3478, whom God^H430 went^H1980^(H8804) to redeem^H6299^(H8800) for a people^H5971 to himself, and to make^H7760^(H8800) him a name^H8034, and to do^H6213^(H8800) for you great things^H1420 and terrible^H3372^(H8737), for thy land^H776, before^H6440 thy people^H5971, which thou redeemedst^H6299^(H8804) to thee from Egypt^H4714, from the nations^H1471 and their gods^H430?

²⁴ You established for yourself your people Israel to be your people forever; and you, Yahweh, became their God.

KJVFor thou hast confirmed^H3559^(H8787) to thyself thy people^H5971 Israel^H3478 to be a people^H5971 unto thee for^H5704 ever^H5769: and thou, LORD^H3068, art become^H1961^(H8804) their God^H430.

²⁵ “Now, Yahweh God, the word that you have spoken concerning your servant, and concerning his house, confirm it forever, and do as you have spoken.

KJVAnd now, O LORD^H3068 God^H430, the word^H1697 that thou hast spoken^H1696^(H8765) concerning thy servant^H5650, and concerning his house^H1004, establish^H6965^(H8685) it for^H5704 ever^H5769, and do^H6213^(H8798) as thou hast said^H1696^(H8765).

²⁶ Let your name be magnified forever, saying, ‘Yahweh of Armies is God over Israel; and the house of your servant David will be established before you.’

²⁷ For you, Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, have revealed to your servant, saying, ‘I will build you a house.’ Therefore your servant has found in his heart to pray this prayer to you.

²⁸ “Now, O Lord Yahweh, you are God, and your words are truth, and you have promised this good thing to your servant.

KJVAnd now, O Lord^H136 GOD^H3069, thou art that God^H430, and thy words^H1697 be true^H571, and thou hast promised^H1696^(H8762) this goodness^H2896 unto thy servant^H5650:

²⁹ Now therefore, let it please you to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever before you; for you, Lord Yahweh, have spoken it. Let the house of your servant be blessed forever with your blessing.”

¹David again gathered together all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand.

² David arose and went with all the people who were with him from Baale Judah, to bring up from there God’s ark, which is called by the Name, even the name of Yahweh of Armies who sits above the cherubim.

KJVAnd David^H1732 arose^H6965^(H8799), and went^H3212^(H8799) with all the people^H5971 that were with him from Baale of Judah^H1184, to bring up^H5927^(H8687) from thence the ark^H727 of God^H430, whose name^H8034 is called^H7121^(H8738) by the name^H8034 of the LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635 that dwelleth^H3427^(H8802) between the cherubims^H3742.

³ They set God’s ark on a new cart, and brought it out of Abinadab’s house that was on the hill; and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drove the new cart.

⁴ They brought it out of Abinadab’s house which was in the hill, with God’s ark; and Ahio went before the ark.

⁵ David and all the house of Israel played before Yahweh with all kinds of instruments made of cypress wood, with harps, with stringed instruments, with tambourines, with castanets, and with cymbals.

KJVAnd David^H1732 and all the house^H1004 of Israel^H3478 played^H7832^(H8764) before^H6440 the LORD^H3068 on all manner of instruments made of fir^H1265 wood^H6086, even on harps^H3658, and on psalteries^H5035, and on timbrels^H8596, and on cornets^H4517, and on cymbals^H6767.

⁶ When they came to the threshing floor of Nacon, Uzzah reached for God’s ark and took hold of it, for the cattle stumbled.

KJVAnd when they came^H935^(H8799) to Nachon's^H5225 threshingfloor^H1637, Uzzah^H5798 put forth^H7971^(H8799) his hand to the ark^H727 of God^H430, and took hold^H270^(H8799) of it; for the oxen^H1241 shook^H8058^(H8804) it.

⁷ Yahweh’s anger burned against Uzzah, and God struck him there for his error; and he died there by God’s ark.

KJVAnd the anger^H639 of the LORD^H3068 was kindled^H2734^(H8799) against Uzzah^H5798; and God^H430 smote^H5221^(H8686) him there for his error^H7944; and there he died^H4191^(H8799) by the ark^H727 of God^H430.

⁸ David was displeased because Yahweh had broken out against Uzzah; and he called that place Perez Uzzah to this day.

KJVAnd David^H1732 was displeased^H2734^(H8799), because the LORD^H3068 had made^H6555^(H8804) a breach^H6556 upon Uzzah^H5798: and he called^H7121^(H8799) the name of the place^H4725 Perezuzzah^H6560 to this day^H3117.

⁹ David was afraid of Yahweh that day; and he said, “How could Yahweh’s ark come to me?”

KJVAnd David^H1732 was afraid^H3372^(H8799) of the LORD^H3068 that day^H3117, and said^H559^(H8799), How shall the ark^H727 of the LORD^H3068 come^H935^(H8799) to me?

¹⁰ So David would not move Yahweh’s ark to be with him in David’s city; but David carried it aside into Obed-Edom the Gittite’s house.

KJVSo David^H1732 would^H14^(H8804) not remove^H5493^(H8687) the ark^H727 of the LORD^H3068 unto him into the city^H5892 of David^H1732: but David^H1732 carried it aside^H5186^(H8686) into the house^H1004 of Obededom^H5654 the Gittite^H1663.

¹¹ Yahweh’s ark remained in Obed-Edom the Gittite’s house three months; and Yahweh blessed Obed-Edom and all his house.

KJVAnd the ark^H727 of the LORD^H3068 continued^H3427^(H8799) in the house^H1004 of Obededom^H5654 the Gittite^H1663 three^H7969 months^H2320: and the LORD^H3068 blessed^H1288^(H8762) Obededom^H5654, and all his household^H1004.

¹² King David was told, “Yahweh has blessed the house of Obed-Edom, and all that belongs to him, because of God’s ark.” So David went and brought up God’s ark from the house of Obed-Edom into David’s city with joy.

KJVAnd it was told^H5046^(H8714) king^H4428 David^H1732, saying^H559^(H8800), The LORD^H3068 hath blessed^H1288^(H8765) the house^H1004 of Obededom^H5654, and all that pertaineth unto him, because of the ark^H727 of God^H430. ¹³ When those who bore Yahweh’s ark had gone six paces, he sacrificed an ox and a fattened calf.

KJVAnd it was so, that when they that bare^H5375^(H8802) the ark^H727 of the LORD^H3068 had gone^H6805^(H8804) six^H8337 paces^H6806, he sacrificed^H2076^(H8799) oxen^H7794 and fatlings^H4806.

¹⁴ David danced before Yahweh with all his might; and David was clothed in a linen ephod.

¹⁵ So David and all the house of Israel brought up Yahweh’s ark with shouting and with the sound of the trumpet.

¹⁶ As Yahweh’s ark came into David’s city, Michal the daughter of Saul looked out through the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before Yahweh; and she despised him in her heart.

¹⁷ They brought in Yahweh’s ark, and set it in its place in the middle of the tent that David had pitched for it; and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before Yahweh.

KJVAnd they brought^H935^(H8686) in the ark^H727 of the LORD^H3068, and set^H3322^(H8686) it in his place^H4725, in the midst^H8432 of the tabernacle^H168 that David^H1732 had pitched^H5186^(H8804) for it: and David^H1732 offered^H5927^(H8686) burnt offerings^H5930 and peace offerings^H8002 before^H6440 the LORD^H3068.

¹⁸ When David had finished offering the burnt offering and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of Yahweh of Armies.

KJVAnd as soon as David^H1732 had made an end^H3615^(H8762) of offering^H5927^(H8687) burnt offerings^H5930 and peace offerings^H8002, he blessed^H1288^(H8762) the people^H5971 in the name^H8034 of the LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635.

¹⁹ He gave to all the people, even among the whole multitude of Israel, both to men and women, to everyone a portion of bread, dates, and raisins. So all the people departed, each to his own house.

KJVAnd he dealt^H2505^(H8762) among all the people^H5971, even among the whole multitude^H1995 of Israel^H3478, as well to the women^H802 as men^H376, to every one^H376 a^H259 cake^H2471 of bread^H3899, and a good piece^H829 of flesh, and a flagon^H809 of wine. ²⁰ Then David returned to bless his household. Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, “How glorious the king of Israel was today, who uncovered himself today in the eyes of his servants’ maids, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovers himself!”

²¹ David said to Michal, “It was before Yahweh, who chose me above your father, and above all his house, to appoint me prince over the people of Yahweh, over Israel. Therefore I will celebrate before Yahweh.

KJVAnd David^H1732 said^H559^(H8799) unto Michal^H4324, It was before^H6440 the LORD^H3068, which chose^H977^(H8804) me before thy father^H1, and before all his house^H1004, to appoint^H6680^(H8763) me ruler^H5057 over the people^H5971 of the LORD^H3068, over Israel^H3478: therefore will I play^H7832^(H8765) before^H6440 the LORD^H3068.

²² I will be yet more undignified than this, and will be worthless in my own sight. But the maids of whom you have spoken will honor me.”

KJVAnd I will yet be more vile^H7043^(H8738) than thus^H2063, and will be base^H8217 in mine own sight^H5869: and of the maidservants^H519 which thou hast spoken^H559^(H8804) of, of them shall I be had in honour^H3513^(H8735).

²³ Michal the daughter of Saul had no child to the day of her death.
