¹Elijah the Tishbite, who was one of the settlers of Gilead, said to Ahab, “As Yahweh, the God of Israel, lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.”

KJVAnd Elijah^H452 the Tishbite^H8664, who was of the inhabitants^H8453 of Gilead^H1568, said^H559^(H8799) unto Ahab^H256, As the LORD^H3068 God^H430 of Israel^H3478 liveth^H2416, before^H6440 whom I stand^H5975^(H8804), there shall not be dew^H2919 nor rain^H4306 these years^H8141, but according^H6310 to my word^H1697.

² Then Yahweh’s word came to him, saying,

KJVAnd the word^H1697 of the LORD^H3068 came unto him, saying^H559^(H8800),

³ “Go away from here, turn eastward, and hide yourself by the brook Cherith, that is before the Jordan.

KJVGet^H3212^(H8798) thee hence, and turn^H6437^(H8804) thee eastward^H6924, and hide^H5641^(H8738) thyself by the brook^H5158 Cherith^H3747, that is before^H6440 Jordan^H3383.

⁴ You shall drink from the brook. I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.”

KJVAnd it shall be, that thou shalt drink^H8354^(H8799) of the brook^H5158; and I have commanded^H6680^(H8765) the ravens^H6158 to feed^H3557^(H8771) thee there.

⁵ So he went and did according to Yahweh’s word, for he went and lived by the brook Cherith that is before the Jordan.

KJVSo he went^H3212^(H8799) and did^H6213^(H8799) according unto the word^H1697 of the LORD^H3068: for he went^H3212^(H8799) and dwelt^H3427^(H8799) by the brook^H5158 Cherith^H3747, that is before^H6440 Jordan^H3383.

⁶ The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the brook.

⁷ After a while, the brook dried up, because there was no rain in the land.

⁸ Yahweh’s word came to him, saying,

KJVAnd the word^H1697 of the LORD^H3068 came unto him, saying^H559^(H8800),

⁹ “Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and stay there. Behold, I have commanded a widow there to sustain you.”

KJVArise^H6965^(H8798), get^H3212^(H8798) thee to Zarephath^H6886, which belongeth to Zidon^H6721, and dwell^H3427^(H8804) there: behold, I have commanded^H6680^(H8765) a widow^H490 woman^H802 there to sustain^H3557^(H8771) thee.

¹⁰ So he arose and went to Zarephath; and when he came to the gate of the city, behold, a widow was there gathering sticks. He called to her and said, “Please get me a little water in a jar, that I may drink.”

¹¹ As she was going to get it, he called to her and said, “Please bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.”

¹² She said, “As Yahweh your God lives, I don’t have anything baked, but only a handful of meal in a jar and a little oil in a jar. Behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and bake it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.”

¹³ Elijah said to her, “Don’t be afraid. Go and do as you have said; but make me a little cake from it first, and bring it out to me, and afterward make some for you and for your son.

¹⁴ For Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, ‘The jar of meal will not run out, and the jar of oil will not fail, until the day that Yahweh sends rain on the earth.’”

KJVFor thus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068 God^H430 of Israel^H3478, The barrel^H3537 of meal^H7058 shall not waste^H3615^(H8799), neither shall the cruse^H6835 of oil^H8081 fail^H2637^(H8799), until the day^H3117 that the LORD^H3068 sendeth^H5414^(H8800) rain^H1653 upon^H6440 the earth^H127.

¹⁵ She went and did according to the saying of Elijah; and she, he, and her household ate many days.

KJVAnd she went^H3212^(H8799) and did^H6213^(H8799) according to the saying^H1697 of Elijah^H452: and she, and he, and her house^H1004, did eat^H398^(H8799) many days^H3117.

¹⁶ The jar of meal didn’t run out and the jar of oil didn’t fail, according to Yahweh’s word, which he spoke by Elijah.

KJVAnd the barrel^H3537 of meal^H7058 wasted^H3615^(H8804) not, neither did the cruse^H6835 of oil^H8081 fail^H2638, according to the word^H1697 of the LORD^H3068, which he spake^H1696^(H8765) by^H3027 Elijah^H452.

¹⁷ After these things, the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, became sick; and his sickness was so severe that there was no breath left in him.

KJVAnd it came to pass after^H310 these things^H1697, that the son^H1121 of the woman^H802, the mistress^H1172 of the house^H1004, fell sick^H2470^(H8804); and his sickness^H2483 was so^H3966 sore^H2389, that there was no breath^H5397 left^H3498^(H8738) in him.

¹⁸ She said to Elijah, “What have I to do with you, you man of God? You have come to me to bring my sin to memory, and to kill my son!”

KJVAnd she said^H559^(H8799) unto Elijah^H452, What have I to do with thee, O thou man^H376 of God^H430? art thou come^H935^(H8804) unto me to call^H2142 my sin^H5771 to remembrance^H2142^(H8687), and to slay^H4191^(H8687) my son^H1121?

¹⁹ He said to her, “Give me your son.” He took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into the room where he stayed, and laid him on his own bed.

KJVAnd he said^H559^(H8799) unto her, Give^H5414^(H8798) me thy son^H1121. And he took^H3947^(H8799) him out of her bosom^H2436, and carried him up^H5927^(H8686) into a loft^H5944, where he abode^H3427^(H8802), and laid^H7901^(H8686) him upon his own bed^H4296.

²⁰ He cried to Yahweh and said, “Yahweh my God, have you also brought evil on the widow with whom I am staying, by killing her son?”

KJVAnd he cried^H7121^(H8799) unto the LORD^H3068, and said^H559^(H8799), O LORD^H3068 my God^H430, hast thou also brought evil^H7489^(H8689) upon the widow^H490 with whom I sojourn^H1481^(H8711), by slaying^H4191^(H8687) her son^H1121?

²¹ He stretched himself on the child three times, and cried to Yahweh and said, “Yahweh my God, please let this child’s soul come into him again.”

KJVAnd he stretched^H4058^(H8709) himself upon the child^H3206 three^H7969 times^H6471, and cried^H7121^(H8799) unto the LORD^H3068, and said^H559^(H8799), O LORD^H3068 my God^H430, I pray thee, let this child's^H3206 soul^H5315 come^H7725 into him^H7130 again^H7725^(H8799).

²² Yahweh listened to the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.

KJVAnd the LORD^H3068 heard^H8085^(H8799) the voice^H6963 of Elijah^H452; and the soul^H5315 of the child^H3206 came^H7725 into him^H7130 again^H7725^(H8799), and he revived^H2421^(H8799).

²³ Elijah took the child and brought him down out of the room into the house, and delivered him to his mother; and Elijah said, “Behold, your son lives.”

²⁴ The woman said to Elijah, “Now I know that you are a man of God, and that Yahweh’s word in your mouth is truth.”

KJVAnd the woman^H802 said^H559^(H8799) to Elijah^H452, Now by this^H2088 I know^H3045^(H8804) that thou art a man^H376 of God^H430, and that the word^H1697 of the LORD^H3068 in thy mouth^H6310 is truth^H571.

¹Yahweh’s word came to Jehu the son of Hanani against Baasha, saying,

KJVThen the word^H1697 of the LORD^H3068 came to Jehu^H3058 the son^H1121 of Hanani^H2607 against Baasha^H1201, saying^H559^(H8800),

² “Because I exalted you out of the dust and made you prince over my people Israel, and you have walked in the way of Jeroboam and have made my people Israel to sin, to provoke me to anger with their sins,

KJVForasmuch as I exalted^H7311^(H8689) thee out of the dust^H6083, and made^H5414^(H8799) thee prince^H5057 over my people^H5971 Israel^H3478; and thou hast walked^H3212^(H8799) in the way^H1870 of Jeroboam^H3379, and hast made my people^H5971 Israel^H3478 to sin^H2398^(H8686), to provoke me to anger^H3707^(H8687) with their sins^H2403;

³ behold, I will utterly sweep away Baasha and his house; and I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

KJVBehold, I will take away^H1197^(H8686) the posterity^H310 of Baasha^H1201, and the posterity^H310 of his house^H1004; and will make^H5414^(H8804) thy house^H1004 like the house^H1004 of Jeroboam^H3379 the son^H1121 of Nebat^H5028.

⁴ The dogs will eat Baasha’s descendants who die in the city; and he who dies of his in the field, the birds of the sky will eat.”

⁵ Now the rest of the acts of Baasha, and what he did, and his might, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

KJVNow the rest^H3499 of the acts^H1697 of Baasha^H1201, and what he did^H6213^(H8804), and his might^H1369, are they not written^H3789^(H8803) in the book^H5612 of the chronicles^H1697^H3117 of the kings^H4428 of Israel^H3478?

⁶ Baasha slept with his fathers, and was buried in Tirzah; and Elah his son reigned in his place.

KJVSo Baasha^H1201 slept^H7901^(H8799) with his fathers^H1, and was buried^H6912^(H8735) in Tirzah^H8656: and Elah^H425 his son^H1121 reigned^H4427^(H8799) in his stead.

⁷ Moreover Yahweh’s word came by the prophet Jehu the son of Hanani against Baasha and against his house, both because of all the evil that he did in Yahweh’s sight, to provoke him to anger with the work of his hands, in being like the house of Jeroboam, and because he struck him.

⁸ In the twenty-sixth year of Asa king of Judah, Elah the son of Baasha began to reign over Israel in Tirzah for two years.

⁹ His servant Zimri, captain of half his chariots, conspired against him. Now he was in Tirzah, drinking himself drunk in the house of Arza, who was over the household in Tirzah;

¹⁰ and Zimri went in and struck him and killed him in the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, and reigned in his place.

¹¹ When he began to reign, as soon as he sat on his throne, he attacked all the house of Baasha. He didn’t leave him a single one who urinates on a wall among his relatives or his friends.

KJVAnd it came to pass, when he began to reign^H4427^(H8800), as soon as he sat^H3427^(H8800) on his throne^H3678, that he slew^H5221^(H8689) all the house^H1004 of Baasha^H1201: he left^H7604^(H8689) him not one that pisseth^H8366^(H8688) against a wall^H7023, neither of his kinsfolks^H1350^(H8802), nor of his friends^H7453.

¹² Thus Zimri destroyed all the house of Baasha, according to Yahweh’s word which he spoke against Baasha by Jehu the prophet,

KJVThus did Zimri^H2174 destroy^H8045^(H8686) all the house^H1004 of Baasha^H1201, according to the word^H1697 of the LORD^H3068, which he spake^H1696^(H8765) against Baasha^H1201 by^H3027 Jehu^H3058 the prophet^H5030,

¹³ for all the sins of Baasha, and the sins of Elah his son, which they sinned and with which they made Israel to sin, to provoke Yahweh, the God of Israel, to anger with their vanities.

¹⁵ In the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, Zimri reigned seven days in Tirzah. Now the people were encamped against Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines.

¹⁶ The people who were encamped heard that Zimri had conspired, and had also killed the king. Therefore all Israel made Omri, the captain of the army, king over Israel that day in the camp.

¹⁷ Omri went up from Gibbethon, and all Israel with him, and they besieged Tirzah.

¹⁸ When Zimri saw that the city was taken, he went into the fortified part of the king’s house and burned the king’s house over him with fire, and died,

¹⁹ for his sins which he sinned in doing that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, in walking in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin which he did to make Israel to sin.

²⁰ Now the rest of the acts of Zimri, and his treason that he committed, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

KJVNow the rest^H3499 of the acts^H1697 of Zimri^H2174, and his treason^H7195 that he wrought^H7194^(H8804), are they not written^H3789^(H8803) in the book^H5612 of the chronicles^H1697^H3117 of the kings^H4428 of Israel^H3478?

²¹ Then the people of Israel were divided into two parts: half of the people followed Tibni the son of Ginath, to make him king, and half followed Omri.

²² But the people who followed Omri prevailed against the people who followed Tibni the son of Ginath; so Tibni died, and Omri reigned.

²³ In the thirty-first year of Asa king of Judah, Omri began to reign over Israel for twelve years. He reigned six years in Tirzah.

²⁵ Omri did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, and dealt wickedly above all who were before him.

²⁶ For he walked in all the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and in his sins with which he made Israel to sin, to provoke Yahweh, the God of Israel, to anger with their vanities.

³⁰ Ahab the son of Omri did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight above all that were before him.

³¹ As if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, he took as wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and went and served Baal and worshiped him.

KJVAnd it came to pass, as if it had been a light thing^H7043^(H8738) for him to walk^H3212^(H8800) in the sins^H2403 of Jeroboam^H3379 the son^H1121 of Nebat^H5028, that he took^H3947^(H8799) to wife^H802 Jezebel^H348 the daughter^H1323 of Ethbaal^H856 king^H4428 of the Zidonians^H6722, and went^H3212^(H8799) and served^H5647^(H8799) Baal^H1168, and worshipped^H7812^(H8691) him.

³² He raised up an altar for Baal in the house of Baal, which he had built in Samaria.

³³ Ahab made the Asherah; and Ahab did more yet to provoke Yahweh, the God of Israel, to anger than all the kings of Israel who were before him.

KJVAnd Ahab^H256 made^H6213^(H8799) a grove^H842; and Ahab^H256 did^H6213^(H8800) more^H3254^(H8686) to provoke the LORD^H3068 God^H430 of Israel^H3478 to anger^H3707^(H8687) than all the kings^H4428 of Israel^H3478 that were before^H6440 him.

³⁴ In his days Hiel the Bethelite built Jericho. He laid its foundation with the loss of Abiram his firstborn, and set up its gates with the loss of his youngest son Segub, according to Yahweh’s word, which he spoke by Joshua the son of Nun.
