¹In the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel had come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month Ziv, which is the second month, he began to build Yahweh’s house.

² The house which King Solomon built for Yahweh had a length of sixty cubits, and its width twenty, and its height thirty cubits.

KJVAnd the house^H1004 which king^H4428 Solomon^H8010 built^H1129^(H8804) for the LORD^H3068, the length^H753 thereof was threescore^H8346 cubits^H520, and the breadth^H7341 thereof twenty^H6242 cubits, and the height^H6967 thereof thirty^H7970 cubits^H520.

³ The porch in front of the temple of the house had a length of twenty cubits, which was along the width of the house. Ten cubits was its width in front of the house.

KJVAnd the porch^H197 before^H6440 the temple^H1964 of the house^H1004, twenty^H6242 cubits^H520 was the length^H753 thereof, according to the breadth^H7341 of the house^H1004; and ten^H6235 cubits^H520 was the breadth^H7341 thereof before the house^H1004.

⁴ He made windows of fixed lattice work for the house.

KJVAnd for the house^H1004 he made^H6213^(H8799) windows^H2474 of narrow^H331^(H8801) lights^H8261.

⁵ Against the wall of the house, he built floors all around, against the walls of the house all around, both of the temple and of the inner sanctuary; and he made side rooms all around.

KJVAnd against the wall^H7023 of the house^H1004 he built^H1129^(H8799) chambers^H3326^(H8675)^H3326 round about^H5439, against the walls^H7023 of the house^H1004 round about^H5439, both of the temple^H1964 and of the oracle^H1687: and he made^H6213^(H8799) chambers^H6763 round about^H5439:

⁶ The lowest floor was five cubits wide, and the middle was six cubits wide, and the third was seven cubits wide; for on the outside he made offsets in the wall of the house all around, that the beams should not be inserted into the walls of the house.

⁷ The house, when it was under construction, was built of stone prepared at the quarry; and no hammer or ax or any tool of iron was heard in the house while it was under construction.

KJVAnd the house^H1004, when it was in building^H1129^(H8736), was built^H1129^(H8738) of stone^H68 made ready^H8003 before it was brought^H4551 thither: so that there was neither hammer^H4717 nor axe^H1631 nor any tool^H3627 of iron^H1270 heard^H8085^(H8738) in the house^H1004, while it was in building^H1129^(H8736).

⁸ The door for the middle side rooms was in the right side of the house. They went up by winding stairs into the middle floor, and out of the middle into the third.

KJVThe door^H6607 for the middle^H8484 chamber^H6763 was in the right^H3233 side^H3802 of the house^H1004: and they went up^H5927^(H8799) with winding stairs^H3883 into the middle^H8484 chamber, and out of the middle^H8484 into the third^H7992.

⁹ So he built the house and finished it; and he covered the house with beams and planks of cedar.

KJVSo he built^H1129^(H8799) the house^H1004, and finished^H3615^(H8762) it; and covered^H5603^(H8799) the house^H1004 with beams^H1356 and boards^H7713 of cedar^H730.

¹⁰ He built the floors all along the house, each five cubits high; and they rested on the house with timbers of cedar.

KJVAnd then he built^H1129^(H8799) chambers^H3326^(H8675)^H3326 against all the house^H1004, five^H2568 cubits^H520 high^H6967: and they rested^H270^(H8799) on the house^H1004 with timber^H6086 of cedar^H730.

¹¹ Yahweh’s word came to Solomon, saying,

KJVAnd the word^H1697 of the LORD^H3068 came to Solomon^H8010, saying^H559^(H8800),

¹² “Concerning this house which you are building, if you will walk in my statutes, and execute my ordinances, and keep all my commandments to walk in them, then I will establish my word with you, which I spoke to David your father.

KJVConcerning this house^H1004 which thou art in building^H1129^(H8802), if thou wilt walk^H3212^(H8799) in my statutes^H2708, and execute^H6213^(H8799) my judgments^H4941, and keep^H8104^(H8804) all my commandments^H4687 to walk^H3212^(H8800) in them; then will I perform^H6965^(H8689) my word^H1697 with thee, which I spake^H1696^(H8765) unto David^H1732 thy father^H1:

¹³ I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people Israel.”

KJVAnd I will dwell^H7931^(H8804) among^H8432 the children^H1121 of Israel^H3478, and will not forsake^H5800^(H8799) my people^H5971 Israel^H3478.

¹⁴ So Solomon built the house and finished it.

KJVSo Solomon^H8010 built^H1129^(H8799) the house^H1004, and finished^H3615^(H8762) it.

¹⁵ He built the walls of the house within with boards of cedar; from the floor of the house to the walls of the ceiling, he covered them on the inside with wood. He covered the floor of the house with cypress boards.

KJVAnd he built^H1129^(H8799) the walls^H7023 of the house^H1004 within^H1004 with boards^H6763 of cedar^H730, both the floor^H7172 of the house^H1004, and the walls^H7023 of the cieling^H5604: and he covered^H6823^(H8765) them on the inside^H1004 with wood^H6086, and covered^H6823^(H8762) the floor^H7172 of the house^H1004 with planks^H6763 of fir^H1265.

¹⁶ He built twenty cubits of the back part of the house with boards of cedar from the floor to the ceiling. He built this within, for an inner sanctuary, even for the most holy place.

KJVAnd he built^H1129^(H8799) twenty^H6242 cubits^H520 on the sides^H3411 of the house^H1004, both^H4480 the floor^H7172 and the walls^H7023 with boards^H6763 of cedar^H730: he even built^H1129^(H8799) them for it within^H1004, even for the oracle^H1687, even for the most^H6944 holy^H6944 place.

¹⁷ In front of the temple sanctuary was forty cubits long.

KJVAnd the house^H1004, that is, the temple^H1964 before^H3942 it, was forty^H705 cubits^H520 long.

¹⁸ There was cedar on the house within, carved with buds and open flowers. All was cedar. No stone was visible.

KJVAnd the cedar^H730 of the house^H1004 within^H6441 was carved^H4734 with knops^H6497 and open^H6362^(H8803) flowers^H6731: all was cedar^H730; there was no stone^H68 seen^H7200^(H8738).

¹⁹ He prepared an inner sanctuary in the middle of the house within, to set the ark of Yahweh’s covenant there.

KJVAnd the oracle^H1687 he prepared^H3559^(H8689) in^H8432 the house^H1004 within^H6441, to set^H5414^(H8800) there the ark^H727 of the covenant^H1285 of the LORD^H3068.

²⁰ Within the inner sanctuary was twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in width, and twenty cubits in its height. He overlaid it with pure gold. He covered the altar with cedar.

KJVAnd the oracle^H1687 in the forepart^H6440 was twenty^H6242 cubits^H520 in length^H753, and twenty^H6242 cubits^H520 in breadth^H7341, and twenty^H6242 cubits^H520 in the height^H6967 thereof: and he overlaid^H6823^(H8762) it with pure^H5462^(H8803) gold^H2091; and so covered^H6823^(H8762) the altar^H4196 which was of cedar^H730.

²¹ So Solomon overlaid the house within with pure gold. He drew chains of gold across before the inner sanctuary, and he overlaid it with gold.

²² He overlaid the whole house with gold, until all the house was finished. He also overlaid the whole altar that belonged to the inner sanctuary with gold.

KJVAnd the whole house^H1004 he overlaid^H6823^(H8765) with gold^H2091, until he had finished^H8552^(H8800) all the house^H1004: also the whole altar^H4196 that was by the oracle^H1687 he overlaid^H6823^(H8765) with gold^H2091.

²³ In the inner sanctuary he made two cherubim of olive wood, each ten cubits high.

KJVAnd within the oracle^H1687 he made^H6213^(H8799) two^H8147 cherubims^H3742 of olive^H8081 tree^H6086, each ten^H6235 cubits^H520 high^H6967.

²⁴ Five cubits was the length of one wing of the cherub, and five cubits was the length of the other wing of the cherub. From the tip of one wing to the tip of the other was ten cubits.

KJVAnd five^H2568 cubits^H520 was the one^H259 wing^H3671 of the cherub^H3742, and five^H2568 cubits^H520 the other^H8145 wing^H3671 of the cherub^H3742: from the uttermost part^H7098 of the one wing^H3671 unto the uttermost part^H7098 of the other^H3671 were ten^H6235 cubits^H520.

²⁵ The other cherub was ten cubits. Both the cherubim were of one measure and one form.

KJVAnd the other^H8145 cherub^H3742 was ten^H6235 cubits^H520: both^H8147 the cherubims^H3742 were of one^H259 measure^H4060 and one^H259 size^H7095.

²⁶ One cherub was ten cubits high, and so was the other cherub.

KJVThe height^H6967 of the one^H259 cherub^H3742 was ten^H6235 cubits^H520, and so was it of the other^H8145 cherub^H3742.

²⁷ He set the cherubim within the inner house. The wings of the cherubim were stretched out, so that the wing of the one touched the one wall and the wing of the other cherub touched the other wall; and their wings touched one another in the middle of the house.

KJVAnd he set^H5414^(H8799) the cherubims^H3742 within^H8432 the inner^H6442 house^H1004: and they stretched forth^H6566^(H8799) the wings^H3671 of the cherubims^H3742, so that the wing^H3671 of the one^H259 touched^H5060^(H8799) the one wall^H7023, and the wing^H3671 of the other^H8145 cherub^H3742 touched^H5060^(H8802) the other^H8145 wall^H7023; and their wings^H3671 touched^H5060^(H8802) one^H3671 another^H3671 in the midst^H8432 of the house^H1004.

²⁸ He overlaid the cherubim with gold.

KJVAnd he overlaid^H6823^(H8762) the cherubims^H3742 with gold^H2091.

²⁹ He carved all the walls of the house around with carved figures of cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers, inside and outside.

KJVAnd he carved^H7049^(H8804) all the walls^H7023 of the house^H1004 round about^H4524 with carved^H6603 figures^H4734 of cherubims^H3742 and palm trees^H8561 and open^H6362^(H8803) flowers^H6731, within^H6441 and without^H2435.

³⁰ He overlaid the floor of the house with gold, inside and outside.

KJVAnd the floor^H7172 of the house^H1004 he overlaid^H6823^(H8765) with gold^H2091, within^H6441 and without^H2435.

³¹ For the entrance of the inner sanctuary, he made doors of olive wood. The lintel and door posts were a fifth part of the wall.

KJVAnd for the entering^H6607 of the oracle^H1687 he made^H6213^(H8804) doors^H1817 of olive^H8081 tree^H6086: the lintel^H352 and side posts^H4201 were a fifth part^H2549 of the wall.

³² So he made two doors of olive wood; and he carved on them carvings of cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers, and overlaid them with gold. He spread the gold on the cherubim and on the palm trees.

³³ He also made the entrance of the temple door posts of olive wood, out of a fourth part of the wall,

KJVSo also made^H6213^(H8804) he for the door^H6607 of the temple^H1964 posts^H4201 of olive^H8081 tree^H6086, a fourth part^H7243 of the wall.

³⁴ and two doors of cypress wood. The two leaves of the one door were folding, and the two leaves of the other door were folding.

KJVAnd the two^H8147 doors^H1817 were of fir^H1265 tree^H6086: the two^H8147 leaves^H6763 of the one^H259 door^H1817 were folding^H1550, and the two^H8147 leaves^H7050 of the other^H8145 door^H1817 were folding^H1550.

³⁵ He carved cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers; and he overlaid them with gold fitted on the engraved work.

KJVAnd he carved^H7049^(H8804) thereon cherubims^H3742 and palm trees^H8561 and open^H6362^(H8803) flowers^H6731: and covered^H6823^(H8765) them with gold^H2091 fitted^H3474^(H8794) upon the carved work^H2707^(H8794).

³⁶ He built the inner court with three courses of cut stone and a course of cedar beams.

KJVAnd he built^H1129^(H8799) the inner^H6442 court^H2691 with three^H7969 rows^H2905 of hewed stone^H1496, and a row^H2905 of cedar^H730 beams^H3773.

³⁷ The foundation of Yahweh’s house was laid in the fourth year, in the month Ziv.

KJVIn the fourth^H7243 year^H8141 was the foundation^H3245 of the house^H1004 of the LORD^H3068 laid^H3245^(H8795), in the month^H3391 Zif^H2099:

³⁸ In the eleventh year, in the month Bul, which is the eighth month, the house was finished throughout all its parts and according to all its specifications. So he spent seven years building it.

KJVAnd in the eleventh^H259^H6240 year^H8141, in the month^H3391 Bul^H945, which is the eighth^H8066 month^H2320, was the house^H1004 finished^H3615^(H8804) throughout all the parts^H1697 thereof, and according to all the fashion^H4941 of it. So was he seven^H7651 years^H8141 in building^H1129^(H8799) it.

¹Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants to Solomon, for he had heard that they had anointed him king in the place of his father, and Hiram had always loved David.

KJVAnd Hiram^H2438 king^H4428 of Tyre^H6865 sent^H7971^(H8799) his servants^H5650 unto Solomon^H8010; for he had heard^H8085^(H8804) that they had anointed^H4886^(H8804) him king^H4428 in the room of his father^H1: for Hiram^H2438 was ever^H3117 a lover^H157^(H8802) of David^H1732.

² Solomon sent to Hiram, saying,

KJVAnd Solomon^H8010 sent^H7971^(H8799) to Hiram^H2438, saying^H559^(H8800),

³ “You know that David my father could not build a house for the name of Yahweh his God because of the wars which were around him on every side, until Yahweh put his enemies under the soles of his feet.

KJVThou knowest^H3045^(H8804) how that David^H1732 my father^H1 could^H3201^(H8804) not build^H1129^(H8800) an house^H1004 unto the name^H8034 of the LORD^H3068 his God^H430 for^H6440 the wars^H4421 which were about him on every side^H5437^(H8804), until the LORD^H3068 put^H5414^(H8800) them under the soles^H3709 of his feet^H7272.

⁴ But now Yahweh my God has given me rest on every side. There is no enemy and no evil occurrence.

KJVBut now the LORD^H3068 my God^H430 hath given me rest^H5117^(H8689) on every side^H5439, so that there is neither adversary^H7854 nor evil^H7451 occurrent^H6294.

⁵ Behold, I intend to build a house for the name of Yahweh my God, as Yahweh spoke to David my father, saying, ‘Your son, whom I will set on your throne in your place shall build the house for my name.’

KJVAnd, behold, I purpose^H559^(H8802) to build^H1129^(H8800) an house^H1004 unto the name^H8034 of the LORD^H3068 my God^H430, as the LORD^H3068 spake^H1696^(H8765) unto David^H1732 my father^H1, saying^H559^(H8800), Thy son^H1121, whom I will set^H5414^(H8799) upon thy throne^H3678 in thy room, he shall build^H1129^(H8799) an house^H1004 unto my name^H8034.

⁶ Now therefore command that cedar trees be cut for me out of Lebanon. My servants will be with your servants; and I will give you wages for your servants according to all that you say. For you know that there is nobody among us who knows how to cut timber like the Sidonians.”

⁷ When Hiram heard the words of Solomon, he rejoiced greatly, and said, “Blessed is Yahweh today, who has given to David a wise son to rule over this great people.”

KJVAnd it came to pass, when Hiram^H2438 heard^H8085^(H8800) the words^H1697 of Solomon^H8010, that he rejoiced^H8055^(H8799) greatly^H3966, and said^H559^(H8799), Blessed^H1288^(H8803) be the LORD^H3068 this day^H3117, which hath given^H5414^(H8804) unto David^H1732 a wise^H2450 son^H1121 over this great^H7227 people^H5971.

⁸ Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, “I have heard the message which you have sent to me. I will do all your desire concerning timber of cedar, and concerning cypress timber.

KJVAnd Hiram^H2438 sent^H7971^(H8799) to Solomon^H8010, saying^H559^(H8800), I have considered^H8085^(H8804) the things which thou sentest^H7971^(H8804) to me for: and I will do^H6213^(H8799) all thy desire^H2656 concerning timber^H6086 of cedar^H730, and concerning timber^H6086 of fir^H1265.

⁹ My servants will bring them down from Lebanon to the sea. I will make them into rafts to go by sea to the place that you specify to me, and will cause them to be broken up there, and you will receive them. You will accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household.”

KJVMy servants^H5650 shall bring them down^H3381^(H8686) from Lebanon^H3844 unto the sea^H3220: and I will convey^H7760^(H8799) them by sea^H3220 in floats^H1702 unto the place^H4725 that thou shalt appoint^H7971^(H8799) me, and will cause them to be discharged^H5310^(H8765) there, and thou shalt receive^H5375^(H8799) them: and thou shalt accomplish^H6213^(H8799) my desire^H2656, in giving^H5414^(H8800) food^H3899 for my household^H1004.

¹⁰ So Hiram gave Solomon cedar timber and cypress timber according to all his desire.

KJVSo Hiram^H2438 gave^H5414^(H8802) Solomon^H8010 cedar^H730 trees^H6086 and fir^H1265 trees^H6086 according to all his desire^H2656.

¹¹ Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand cors of wheat for food to his household, and twenty cors of pure oil. Solomon gave this to Hiram year by year.

KJVAnd Solomon^H8010 gave^H5414^(H8804) Hiram^H2438 twenty^H6242 thousand^H505 measures^H3734 of wheat^H2406 for food^H4361 to his household^H1004, and twenty^H6242 measures^H3734 of pure^H3795 oil^H8081: thus gave^H5414^(H8799) Solomon^H8010 to Hiram^H2438 year^H8141 by year^H8141.

¹² Yahweh gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him. There was peace between Hiram and Solomon, and the two of them made a treaty together.

KJVAnd the LORD^H3068 gave^H5414^(H8804) Solomon^H8010 wisdom^H2451, as he promised^H1696^(H8765) him: and there was peace^H7965 between Hiram^H2438 and Solomon^H8010; and they two^H8147 made^H3772^(H8799) a league^H1285 together^H8147.

¹³ King Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty thousand men.

KJVAnd king^H4428 Solomon^H8010 raised^H5927^(H8686) a levy^H4522 out of all Israel^H3478; and the levy^H4522 was thirty^H7970 thousand^H505 men^H376.

¹⁴ He sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month by courses: for a month they were in Lebanon, and two months at home; and Adoniram was over the men subject to forced labor.

¹⁵ Solomon had seventy thousand who bore burdens, and eighty thousand who were stone cutters in the mountains,

KJVAnd Solomon^H8010 had threescore and ten^H7657 thousand^H505 that bare^H5375^(H8802) burdens^H5449, and fourscore^H8084 thousand^H505 hewers^H2672^(H8802) in the mountains^H2022;

¹⁶ besides Solomon’s chief officers who were over the work: three thousand three hundred who ruled over the people who labored in the work.

KJVBeside the chief^H8269 of Solomon's^H8010 officers^H5324^(H8737) which were over the work^H4399, three^H7969 thousand^H505 and three^H7969 hundred^H3967, which ruled^H7287^(H8802) over the people^H5971 that wrought^H6213^(H8802) in the work^H4399.

¹⁷ The king commanded, and they cut out large stones, costly stones, to lay the foundation of the house with worked stone.

KJVAnd the king^H4428 commanded^H6680^(H8762), and they brought^H5265^(H8686) great^H1419 stones^H68, costly^H3368 stones^H68, and hewed^H1496 stones^H68, to lay the foundation^H3245^(H8763) of the house^H1004.

¹⁸ Solomon’s builders and Hiram’s builders and the Gebalites cut them, and prepared the timber and the stones to build the house.

KJVAnd Solomon's^H8010 builders^H1129^(H8802) and Hiram's^H2438 builders^H1129^(H8802) did hew^H6458^(H8799) them, and the stonesquarers^H1382: so they prepared^H3559^(H8686) timber^H6086 and stones^H68 to build^H1129^(H8800) the house^H1004.
