¹When Solomon had finished the building of Yahweh’s house, the king’s house, and all Solomon’s desire which he was pleased to do,

² Yahweh appeared to Solomon the second time, as he had appeared to him at Gibeon.

KJVThat the LORD^H3068 appeared^H7200^(H8735) to Solomon^H8010 the second time^H8145, as he had appeared^H7200^(H8738) unto him at Gibeon^H1391.

³ Yahweh said to him, “I have heard your prayer and your supplication that you have made before me. I have made this house holy, which you have built, to put my name there forever; and my eyes and my heart shall be there perpetually.

KJVAnd the LORD^H3068 said^H559^(H8799) unto him, I have heard^H8085^(H8804) thy prayer^H8605 and thy supplication^H8467, that thou hast made^H2603^(H8694) before^H6440 me: I have hallowed^H6942^(H8689) this house^H1004, which thou hast built^H1129^(H8804), to put^H7760^(H8800) my name^H8034 there for^H5704 ever^H5769; and mine eyes^H5869 and mine heart^H3820 shall be there perpetually^H3117.

⁴ As for you, if you will walk before me as David your father walked, in integrity of heart and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded you, and will keep my statutes and my ordinances,

KJVAnd if thou wilt walk^H3212^(H8799) before^H6440 me, as David^H1732 thy father^H1 walked^H1980^(H8804), in integrity^H8537 of heart^H3824, and in uprightness^H3476, to do^H6213^(H8800) according to all that I have commanded^H6680^(H8765) thee, and wilt keep^H8104^(H8799) my statutes^H2706 and my judgments^H4941:

⁵ then I will establish the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever, as I promised to David your father, saying, ‘There shall not fail from you a man on the throne of Israel.’

⁶ But if you turn away from following me, you or your children, and not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods and worship them,

⁷ then I will cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and I will cast this house, which I have made holy for my name, out of my sight; and Israel will be a proverb and a byword among all peoples.

⁸ Though this house is so high, yet everyone who passes by it will be astonished and hiss; and they will say, ‘Why has Yahweh done this to this land and to this house?’

KJVAnd at this house^H1004, which is high^H5945, every one that passeth^H5674^(H8802) by it shall be astonished^H8074^(H8799), and shall hiss^H8319^(H8804); and they shall say^H559^(H8804), Why hath the LORD^H3068 done^H6213^(H8804) thus unto this land^H776, and to this house^H1004?

⁹ and they will answer, ‘Because they abandoned Yahweh their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and embraced other gods, and worshiped them, and served them. Therefore Yahweh has brought all this evil on them.’”

¹⁰ At the end of twenty years, in which Solomon had built the two houses, Yahweh’s house and the king’s house

KJVAnd it came to pass at the end^H7097 of twenty^H6242 years^H8141, when Solomon^H8010 had built^H1129^(H8804) the two^H8147 houses^H1004, the house^H1004 of the LORD^H3068, and the king's^H4428 house^H1004,

¹¹ (now Hiram the king of Tyre had furnished Solomon with cedar trees and cypress trees, and with gold, according to all his desire), King Solomon gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.

¹² Hiram came out of Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him; and they didn’t please him.

¹³ He said, “What cities are these which you have given me, my brother?” He called them the land of Cabul to this day.

¹⁴ Hiram sent to the king one hundred twenty talents of gold.

KJVAnd Hiram^H2438 sent^H7971^(H8799) to the king^H4428 sixscore^H3967^H6242 talents^H3603 of gold^H2091.

¹⁵ This is the reason of the forced labor which King Solomon conscripted: to build Yahweh’s house, his own house, Millo, Jerusalem’s wall, Hazor, Megiddo, and Gezer.

KJVAnd this is the reason^H1697 of the levy^H4522 which king^H4428 Solomon^H8010 raised^H5927^(H8689); for to build^H1129^(H8800) the house^H1004 of the LORD^H3068, and his own house^H1004, and Millo^H4407, and the wall^H2346 of Jerusalem^H3389, and Hazor^H2674, and Megiddo^H4023, and Gezer^H1507.

¹⁶ Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up, taken Gezer, burned it with fire, killed the Canaanites who lived in the city, and given it for a wedding gift to his daughter, Solomon’s wife.

KJVFor Pharaoh^H6547 king^H4428 of Egypt^H4714 had gone up^H5927^(H8804), and taken^H3920^(H8799) Gezer^H1507, and burnt^H8313^(H8799) it with fire^H784, and slain^H2026^(H8804) the Canaanites^H3669 that dwelt^H3427^(H8802) in the city^H5892, and given^H5414^(H8799) it for a present^H7964 unto his daughter^H1323, Solomon's^H8010 wife^H802.

¹⁷ Solomon built in the land Gezer, Beth Horon the lower,

KJVAnd Solomon^H8010 built^H1129^(H8799) Gezer^H1507, and Bethhoron^H1032 the nether^H8481,

¹⁸ Baalath, Tamar in the wilderness,

KJVAnd Baalath^H1191, and Tadmor^H8412 in the wilderness^H4057, in the land^H776,

¹⁹ all the storage cities that Solomon had, the cities for his chariots, the cities for his horsemen, and that which Solomon desired to build for his pleasure in Jerusalem, and in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion.

KJVAnd all the cities^H5892 of store^H4543 that Solomon^H8010 had, and cities^H5892 for his chariots^H7393, and cities^H5892 for his horsemen^H6571, and that^H2837 which Solomon^H8010 desired^H2836^(H8804) to build^H1129^(H8800) in Jerusalem^H3389, and in Lebanon^H3844, and in all the land^H776 of his dominion^H4475.

²⁰ As for all the people who were left of the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, who were not of the children of Israel—

²¹ their children who were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel were not able utterly to destroy—of them Solomon raised a levy of bondservants to this day.

²² But of the children of Israel Solomon made no bondservants; but they were the men of war, his servants, his princes, his captains, and rulers of his chariots and of his horsemen.

²³ These were the five hundred fifty chief officers who were over Solomon’s work, who ruled over the people who labored in the work.

KJVThese were the chief^H8269 of the officers^H5324^(H8737) that were over Solomon's^H8010 work^H4399, five^H2568 hundred^H3967 and fifty^H2572, which bare rule^H7287^(H8802) over the people^H5971 that wrought^H6213^(H8804) in the work^H4399.

²⁴ But Pharaoh’s daughter came up out of David’s city to her house which Solomon had built for her. Then he built Millo.

KJVBut Pharaoh's^H6547 daughter^H1323 came up^H5927^(H8804) out of the city^H5892 of David^H1732 unto her house^H1004 which Solomon had built^H1129^(H8804) for her: then did he build^H1129^(H8804) Millo^H4407.

²⁵ Solomon offered burnt offerings and peace offerings on the altar which he built to Yahweh three times per year, burning incense with them on the altar that was before Yahweh. So he finished the house.

KJVAnd three^H7969 times^H6471 in a year^H8141 did Solomon^H8010 offer^H5927^(H8689) burnt offerings^H5930 and peace offerings^H8002 upon the altar^H4196 which he built^H1129^(H8804) unto the LORD^H3068, and he burnt incense^H6999^(H8687) upon the altar^H4196 that was before^H6440 the LORD^H3068. So he finished^H7999^(H8765) the house^H1004.

²⁶ King Solomon made a fleet of ships in Ezion Geber, which is beside Eloth, on the shore of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom.

KJVAnd king^H4428 Solomon^H8010 made^H6213^(H8804) a navy of ships^H590 in Eziongeber^H6100, which is beside Eloth^H359, on the shore^H8193 of the Red^H5488 sea^H3220, in the land^H776 of Edom^H123.

²⁷ Hiram sent in the fleet his servants, sailors who had knowledge of the sea, with the servants of Solomon.

KJVAnd Hiram^H2438 sent^H7971^(H8799) in the navy^H590 his servants^H5650, shipmen^H582^H591 that had knowledge^H3045^(H8802) of the sea^H3220, with the servants^H5650 of Solomon^H8010.

²⁸ They came to Ophir, and fetched from there gold, four hundred and twenty talents, and brought it to King Solomon.

¹Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel with all the heads of the tribes, the princes of the fathers’ households of the children of Israel, to King Solomon in Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of Yahweh’s covenant out of David’s city, which is Zion.

² All the men of Israel assembled themselves to King Solomon at the feast in the month Ethanim, which is the seventh month.

³ All the elders of Israel came, and the priests picked up the ark.

KJVAnd all the elders^H2205 of Israel^H3478 came^H935^(H8799), and the priests^H3548 took up^H5375^(H8799) the ark^H727.

⁴ They brought up Yahweh’s ark, the Tent of Meeting, and all the holy vessels that were in the Tent. The priests and the Levites brought these up.

KJVAnd they brought up^H5927^(H8686) the ark^H727 of the LORD^H3068, and the tabernacle^H168 of the congregation^H4150, and all the holy^H6944 vessels^H3627 that were in the tabernacle^H168, even those did the priests^H3548 and the Levites^H3881 bring up^H5927^(H8686).

⁵ King Solomon and all the congregation of Israel, who were assembled to him, were with him before the ark, sacrificing sheep and cattle that could not be counted or numbered for multitude.

⁶ The priests brought in the ark of Yahweh’s covenant to its place, into the inner sanctuary of the house, to the most holy place, even under the cherubim’s wings.

KJVAnd the priests^H3548 brought in^H935^(H8686) the ark^H727 of the covenant^H1285 of the LORD^H3068 unto his place^H4725, into the oracle^H1687 of the house^H1004, to the most^H6944 holy^H6944 place, even under the wings^H3671 of the cherubims^H3742.

⁷ For the cherubim spread their wings out over the place of the ark, and the cherubim covered the ark and its poles above.

KJVFor the cherubims^H3742 spread forth^H6566^(H8802) their two wings^H3671 over the place^H4725 of the ark^H727, and the cherubims^H3742 covered^H5526^(H8799) the ark^H727 and the staves^H905 thereof above^H4605.

⁸ The poles were so long that the ends of the poles were seen from the holy place before the inner sanctuary, but they were not seen outside. They are there to this day.

KJVAnd they drew out^H748^(H8686) the staves^H905, that the ends^H7218 of the staves^H905 were seen out^H7200^(H8735) in the holy^H6944 place before^H6440 the oracle^H1687, and they were not seen^H7200^(H8735) without^H2351: and there they are unto this day^H3117.

⁹ There was nothing in the ark except the two stone tablets which Moses put there at Horeb, when Yahweh made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt.

¹⁰ It came to pass, when the priests had come out of the holy place, that the cloud filled Yahweh’s house,

KJVAnd it came to pass, when the priests^H3548 were come out^H3318^(H8800) of the holy^H6944 place, that the cloud^H6051 filled^H4390^(H8804) the house^H1004 of the LORD^H3068,

¹¹ so that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud; for Yahweh’s glory filled Yahweh’s house.

KJVSo that the priests^H3548 could^H3201^(H8804) not stand^H5975^(H8800) to minister^H8334^(H8763) because^H6440 of the cloud^H6051: for the glory^H3519 of the LORD^H3068 had filled^H4390^(H8804) the house^H1004 of the LORD^H3068.

¹² Then Solomon said, “Yahweh has said that he would dwell in the thick darkness.

KJVThen spake^H559^(H8804) Solomon^H8010, The LORD^H3068 said^H559^(H8804) that he would dwell^H7931^(H8800) in the thick darkness^H6205.

¹³ I have surely built you a house of habitation, a place for you to dwell in forever.”

KJVI have surely^H1129^(H8800) built^H1129^(H8804) thee an house^H1004 to dwell in^H2073, a settled place^H4349 for thee to abide in^H3427^(H8800) for ever^H5769.

¹⁴ The king turned his face around and blessed all the assembly of Israel; and all the assembly of Israel stood.

KJVAnd the king^H4428 turned^H5437 his face^H6440 about^H5437^(H8686), and blessed^H1288^(H8762) all the congregation^H6951 of Israel^H3478:(and all the congregation^H6951 of Israel^H3478 stood^H5975^(H8802);)

¹⁵ He said, “Blessed is Yahweh, the God of Israel, who spoke with his mouth to David your father, and has with his hand fulfilled it, saying,

KJVAnd he said^H559^(H8799), Blessed^H1288^(H8803) be the LORD^H3068 God^H430 of Israel^H3478, which spake^H1696^(H8765) with his mouth^H6310 unto David^H1732 my father^H1, and hath with his hand^H3027 fulfilled^H4390^(H8765) it, saying^H559^(H8800),

¹⁶ ‘Since the day that I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build a house, that my name might be there; but I chose David to be over my people Israel.’

KJVSince the day^H3117 that I brought forth^H3318^(H8689) my people^H5971 Israel^H3478 out of Egypt^H4714, I chose^H977^(H8804) no city^H5892 out of all the tribes^H7626 of Israel^H3478 to build^H1129^(H8800) an house^H1004, that my name^H8034 might be therein; but I chose^H977^(H8799) David^H1732 to be over my people^H5971 Israel^H3478.

¹⁷ “Now it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of Yahweh, the God of Israel.

KJVAnd it was in the heart^H3824 of David^H1732 my father^H1 to build^H1129^(H8800) an house^H1004 for the name^H8034 of the LORD^H3068 God^H430 of Israel^H3478.

¹⁸ But Yahweh said to David my father, ‘Whereas it was in your heart to build a house for my name, you did well that it was in your heart.

KJVAnd the LORD^H3068 said^H559^(H8799) unto David^H1732 my father^H1, Whereas^H3282^H834 it was in thine heart^H3824 to build^H1129^(H8800) an house^H1004 unto my name^H8034, thou didst well^H2895^(H8689) that it was in thine heart^H3824.

¹⁹ Nevertheless, you shall not build the house; but your son who shall come out of your body, he shall build the house for my name.’

KJVNevertheless^H7535 thou shalt not build^H1129^(H8799) the house^H1004; but thy son^H1121 that shall come forth out^H3318^(H8802) of thy loins^H2504, he shall build^H1129^(H8799) the house^H1004 unto my name^H8034.

²⁰ Yahweh has established his word that he spoke; for I have risen up in the place of David my father, and I sit on the throne of Israel, as Yahweh promised, and have built the house for the name of Yahweh, the God of Israel.

KJVAnd the LORD^H3068 hath performed^H6965^(H8686) his word^H1697 that he spake^H1696^(H8765), and I am risen up^H6965^(H8799) in the room of David^H1732 my father^H1, and sit^H3427^(H8799) on the throne^H3678 of Israel^H3478, as the LORD^H3068 promised^H1696^(H8765), and have built^H1129^(H8799) an house^H1004 for the name^H8034 of the LORD^H3068 God^H430 of Israel^H3478.

²¹ There I have set a place for the ark, in which is Yahweh’s covenant, which he made with our fathers when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.”

²² Solomon stood before Yahweh’s altar in the presence of all the assembly of Israel, and spread out his hands toward heaven;

²³ and he said, “Yahweh, the God of Israel, there is no God like you, in heaven above, or on earth beneath; who keeps covenant and loving kindness with your servants who walk before you with all their heart;

KJVAnd he said^H559^(H8799), LORD^H3068 God^H430 of Israel^H3478, there is no God^H430 like thee, in heaven^H8064 above^H4605, or on earth^H776 beneath, who keepest^H8104^(H8802) covenant^H1285 and mercy^H2617 with thy servants^H5650 that walk^H1980^(H8802) before^H6440 thee with all their heart^H3820:

²⁴ who has kept with your servant David my father that which you promised him. Yes, you spoke with your mouth, and have fulfilled it with your hand, as it is today.

KJVWho hast kept^H8104^(H8804) with thy servant^H5650 David^H1732 my father^H1 that thou promisedst^H1696^(H8765) him: thou spakest^H1696^(H8762) also with thy mouth^H6310, and hast fulfilled^H4390^(H8765) it with thine hand^H3027, as it is this day^H3117.

²⁵ Now therefore, may Yahweh, the God of Israel, keep with your servant David my father that which you have promised him, saying, ‘There shall not fail from you a man in my sight to sit on the throne of Israel, if only your children take heed to their way, to walk before me as you have walked before me.’

KJVTherefore now, LORD^H3068 God^H430 of Israel^H3478, keep^H8104^(H8798) with thy servant^H5650 David^H1732 my father^H1 that thou promisedst^H1696^(H8765) him, saying^H559^(H8800), There shall not fail^H3772^(H8735) thee a man^H376 in my sight^H6440 to sit^H3427^(H8802) on the throne^H3678 of Israel^H3478; so^H7535 that thy children^H1121 take heed^H8104^(H8799) to their way^H1870, that they walk^H3212^(H8800) before^H6440 me as thou hast walked^H1980^(H8804) before^H6440 me.

²⁶ “Now therefore, God of Israel, please let your word be verified, which you spoke to your servant David my father.

KJVAnd now, O God^H430 of Israel^H3478, let thy word^H1697, I pray thee, be verified^H539^(H8735), which thou spakest^H1696^(H8765) unto thy servant^H5650 David^H1732 my father^H1.

²⁷ But will God in very deed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens can’t contain you; how much less this house that I have built!

KJVBut will God^H430 indeed^H552 dwell^H3427^(H8799) on the earth^H776? behold, the heaven^H8064 and heaven^H8064 of heavens^H8064 cannot contain^H3557^(H8770) thee; how much less^H637 this house^H1004 that I have builded^H1129^(H8804)?

²⁸ Yet have respect for the prayer of your servant and for his supplication, Yahweh my God, to listen to the cry and to the prayer which your servant prays before you today;

²⁹ that your eyes may be open toward this house night and day, even toward the place of which you have said, ‘My name shall be there;’ to listen to the prayer which your servant prays toward this place.
