¹These were the divisions of the sons of Aaron. The sons of Aaron: Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

KJVNow these are the divisions^H4256 of the sons^H1121 of Aaron^H175. The sons^H1121 of Aaron^H175; Nadab^H5070, and Abihu^H30, Eleazar^H499, and Ithamar^H385.

² But Nadab and Abihu died before their father, and had no children; therefore Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests.

KJVBut Nadab^H5070 and Abihu^H30 died^H4191^(H8799) before^H6440 their father^H1, and had no children^H1121: therefore Eleazar^H499 and Ithamar^H385 executed the priest's office^H3547^(H8762).

³ David, with Zadok of the sons of Eleazar and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar, divided them according to their ordering in their service.

KJVAnd David^H1732 distributed^H2505^(H8735) them, both Zadok^H6659 of the sons^H1121 of Eleazar^H499, and Ahimelech^H288 of the sons^H1121 of Ithamar^H385, according to their offices^H6486 in their service^H5656.

⁴ There were more chief men found of the sons of Eleazar than of the sons of Ithamar; and they were divided like this: of the sons of Eleazar there were sixteen, heads of fathers’ houses; and of the sons of Ithamar, according to their fathers’ houses, eight.

⁵ Thus they were divided impartially by drawing lots; for there were princes of the sanctuary and princes of God, both of the sons of Eleazar, and of the sons of Ithamar.

³¹ These likewise cast lots even as their brothers the sons of Aaron in the presence of David the king, Zadok, Ahimelech, and the heads of the fathers’ households of the priests and of the Levites, the fathers’ households of the chief even as those of his younger brother.

¹Now David was old and full of days; and he made Solomon his son king over Israel.

⁶ David divided them into divisions according to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

⁷ Of the Gershonites: Ladan and Shimei.

⁹ The sons of Shimei: Shelomoth, Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the heads of the fathers’ households of Ladan.

¹⁰ The sons of Shimei: Jahath, Zina, Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei.

KJVAnd the sons^H1121 of Shimei^H8096 were, Jahath^H3189, Zina^H2126, and Jeush^H3266, and Beriah^H1283. These four^H702 were the sons^H1121 of Shimei^H8096.

¹¹ Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second; but Jeush and Beriah didn’t have many sons; therefore they became a fathers’ house in one reckoning.

KJVAnd Jahath^H3189 was the chief^H7218, and Zizah^H2125 the second^H8145: but Jeush^H3266 and Beriah^H1283 had not many^H7235^(H8689) sons^H1121; therefore they were in one^H259 reckoning^H6486, according to their father's^H1 house^H1004.
