2 Chronicles 10

WEB·2 Chronicles 10
1Rehoboam went to Shechem, for all Israel had come to Shechem to make him king.
KJVAnd RehoboamH7346 wentH3212(H8799) to ShechemH7927: for to ShechemH7927 were all IsraelH3478 comeH935(H8804) to make him kingH4427(H8687).
2 When Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it (for he was in Egypt, where he had fled from the presence of King Solomon), Jeroboam returned out of Egypt.
KJVAnd it came to pass, when JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of NebatH5028, who was in EgyptH4714, whither he had fledH1272(H8804) from the presenceH6440 of SolomonH8010 the kingH4428, heardH8085(H8800) it, that JeroboamH3379 returnedH7725(H8799) out of EgyptH4714.
3 They sent and called him; and Jeroboam and all Israel came, and they spoke to Rehoboam, saying,
KJVAnd they sentH7971(H8799) and calledH7121(H8799) him. So JeroboamH3379 and all IsraelH3478 cameH935(H8799) and spakeH1696(H8762) to RehoboamH7346, sayingH559(H8800),
4 “Your father made our yoke grievous. Now therefore make the grievous service of your father and his heavy yoke which he put on us, lighter, and we will serve you.”
KJVThy fatherH1 made our yokeH5923 grievousH7185(H8689): now therefore easeH7043(H8685) thou somewhat the grievousH7186 servitudeH5656 of thy fatherH1, and his heavyH3515 yokeH5923 that he putH5414(H8804) upon us, and we will serveH5647(H8799) thee.
5 He said to them, “Come again to me after three days.” So the people departed.
KJVAnd he saidH559(H8799) unto them, Come againH7725(H8798) unto me after threeH7969 daysH3117. And the peopleH5971 departedH3212(H8799).
6 King Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, who had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, “What counsel do you give me about how to answer these people?”
KJVAnd kingH4428 RehoboamH7346 took counselH3289(H8735) with the oldH2205 men that had stoodH5975(H8802) beforeH6440 SolomonH8010 his fatherH1 while he yet livedH2416, sayingH559(H8800), WhatH349 counsel giveH3289(H8737) ye me to returnH7725(H8687) answerH1697 to this peopleH5971?
7 They spoke to him, saying, “If you are kind to these people, please them, and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever.”
KJVAnd they spakeH1696(H8762) unto him, sayingH559(H8800), If thou be kindH2896 to this peopleH5971, and pleaseH7521(H8804) them, and speakH1696(H8765) goodH2896 wordsH1697 to them, they will be thy servantsH5650 for everH3117.
8 But he abandoned the counsel of the old men which they had given him, and took counsel with the young men who had grown up with him, who stood before him.
KJVBut he forsookH5800(H8799) the counselH6098 which the old menH2205 gaveH3289(H8804) him, and took counselH3289(H8735) with the young menH3206 that were brought upH1431(H8804) with him, that stoodH5975(H8802) beforeH6440 him.
9 He said to them, “What counsel do you give, that we may give an answer to these people, who have spoken to me, saying, ‘Make the yoke that your father put on us lighter’?”
KJVAnd he saidH559(H8799) unto them, What adviceH3289(H8737) give ye that we may returnH7725(H8686) answerH1697 to this peopleH5971, which have spokenH1696(H8765) to me, sayingH559(H8800), EaseH7043(H8685) somewhat the yokeH5923 that thy fatherH1 did putH5414(H8804) upon us?
10 The young men who had grown up with him spoke to him, saying, “Thus you shall tell the people who spoke to you, saying, ‘Your father made our yoke heavy, but make it lighter on us;’ thus you shall say to them, ‘My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist.
KJVAnd the young menH3206 that were brought upH1431(H8804) with him spakeH1696(H8762) unto him, sayingH559(H8800), Thus shalt thou answerH559(H8799) the peopleH5971 that spakeH1696(H8765) unto thee, sayingH559(H8800), Thy fatherH1 madeH3513 our yokeH5923 heavyH3513(H8689), but make thou it somewhat lighterH7043(H8685) for us; thus shalt thou sayH559(H8799) unto them, My littleH6995 finger shall be thickerH5666(H8804) than my father'sH1 loinsH4975.
11 Now whereas my father burdened you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.’”
KJVFor whereasH6258 my fatherH1 putH6006(H8689) a heavyH3515 yokeH5923 upon you, I will put moreH3254(H8686) to your yokeH5923: my fatherH1 chastisedH3256(H8765) you with whipsH7752, but I will chastise you with scorpionsH6137.
12 So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king asked, saying, “Come to me again the third day.”
KJVSo JeroboamH3379 and all the peopleH5971 cameH935(H8799) to RehoboamH7346 on the thirdH7992 dayH3117, as the kingH4428 badeH1696(H8765), sayingH559(H8800), Come againH7725(H8798) to me on the thirdH7992 dayH3117.
13 The king answered them roughly; and King Rehoboam abandoned the counsel of the old men,
KJVAnd the kingH4428 answeredH6030(H8799) them roughlyH7186; and kingH4428 RehoboamH7346 forsookH5800(H8799) the counselH6098 of the old menH2205,
14 and spoke to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, “My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to it. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.”
KJVAnd answeredH1696(H8762) them after the adviceH6098 of the young menH3206, sayingH559(H8800), My fatherH1 made your yokeH5923 heavyH3513(H8689), but I will addH3254(H8686) thereto: my fatherH1 chastisedH3256(H8765) you with whipsH7752, but I will chastise you with scorpionsH6137.
15 So the king didn’t listen to the people; for it was brought about by God, that Yahweh might establish his word, which he spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
KJVSo the kingH4428 hearkenedH8085(H8804) not unto the peopleH5971: for the causeH5252 was of GodH430, that the LORDH3068 might performH6965(H8687) his wordH1697, which he spakeH1696(H8765) by the handH3027 of AhijahH281 the ShiloniteH7888 to JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of NebatH5028.
16 When all Israel saw that the king didn’t listen to them, the people answered the king, saying, “What portion do we have in David? We don’t have an inheritance in the son of Jesse! Every man to your tents, Israel! Now see to your own house, David.” So all Israel departed to their tents.
KJVAnd when all IsraelH3478 sawH7200(H8804) that the kingH4428 would not hearkenH8085(H8804) unto them, the peopleH5971 answeredH7725(H8686) the kingH4428, sayingH559(H8800), What portionH2506 have we in DavidH1732? and we have none inheritanceH5159 in the sonH1121 of JesseH3448: every manH376 to your tentsH168, O IsraelH3478: and now, DavidH1732, seeH7200(H8798) to thine own houseH1004. So all IsraelH3478 wentH3212(H8799) to their tentsH168.
17 But as for the children of Israel who lived in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.
KJVBut as for the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 that dweltH3427(H8802) in the citiesH5892 of JudahH3063, RehoboamH7346 reignedH4427(H8799) over them.
18 Then King Rehoboam sent Hadoram, who was over the men subject to forced labor; and the children of Israel stoned him to death with stones. King Rehoboam hurried to get himself up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.
KJVThen kingH4428 RehoboamH7346 sentH7971(H8799) HadoramH1913 that was over the tributeH4522; and the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 stonedH7275(H8799) him with stonesH68, that he diedH4191(H8799). But kingH4428 RehoboamH7346 made speedH553(H8694) to get him upH5927(H8800) to his chariotH4818, to fleeH5127(H8800) to JerusalemH3389.
19 So Israel rebelled against David’s house to this day.
KJVAnd IsraelH3478 rebelledH6586(H8799) against the houseH1004 of DavidH1732 unto this dayH3117.
