¹Nowe these are the names of the children of Israel, which came into Egypt (euery man and his housholde came thither with Iaakob)

² Reuben, Simeon, Leui, and Iudah,

³ Issachar, Zebulun, and Beniamin,

⁴ Dan, and Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.

⁵ So al the soules, that came out of the loines of Iaakob, were seuentie soules: Ioseph was in Egypt already.

KJVAnd all the souls^H5315 that came out^H3318^(H8802) of the loins^H3409 of Jacob^H3290 were seventy^H7657 souls^H5315: for Joseph^H3130 was in Egypt^H4714 already.

⁶ Nowe Ioseph died and all his brethren, and that whole generation.

KJVAnd Joseph^H3130 died^H4191^(H8799), and all his brethren^H251, and all that generation^H1755.

⁷ And the children of Israel brought foorth fruite and encreased in aboundance, and were multiplied, and were exceeding mightie, so that the land was full of them.

KJVAnd the children^H1121 of Israel^H3478 were fruitful^H6509^(H8804), and increased abundantly^H8317^(H8799), and multiplied^H7235^(H8799), and waxed exceeding^H3966^H3966 mighty^H6105^(H8799); and the land^H776 was filled^H4390^(H8735) with them.

⁸ Then there rose vp a newe King in Egypt, who knewe not Ioseph.

KJVNow there arose up^H6965^(H8799) a new^H2319 king^H4428 over Egypt^H4714, which knew^H3045^(H8804) not Joseph^H3130.

⁹ And he sayde vnto his people, Beholde, the people of the children of Israel are greater and mightier then we.

KJVAnd he said^H559^(H8799) unto his people^H5971, Behold, the people^H5971 of the children^H1121 of Israel^H3478 are more^H7227 and mightier^H6099 than we:

¹⁰ Come, let vs worke wisely with them, least they multiplie, and it come to passe, that if there be warre, they ioyne them selues also vnto our enemies, and fight against vs, and get them out of the land.

¹¹ Therefore did they set taskemasters ouer them, to keepe the vnder with burdens: and they built the cities Pithom and Raamses for the treasures of Pharaoh.

¹² But the more they vexed them, the more they multiplied and grewe: therefore they were more grieued against the children of Israel.

¹³ Wherefore the Egyptians by crueltie caused the children of Israel to serue.

KJVAnd the Egyptians^H4714 made^H5647 the children^H1121 of Israel^H3478 to serve^H5647^(H8686) with rigour^H6531:

¹⁴ Thus they made them weary of their liues by sore labour in clay & in bricke, & in al worke in the fielde, with all maner of bondage, which they layde vpon them most cruelly.

¹⁵ Moreouer the King of Egypt commanded ye midwiues of the Ebrewe women, (of which the ones name was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah)

KJVAnd the king^H4428 of Egypt^H4714 spake^H559^(H8799) to the Hebrew^H5680 midwives^H3205^(H8764), of which the name^H8034 of the one^H259 was Shiphrah^H8236, and the name^H8034 of the other^H8145 Puah^H6326:

¹⁶ And sayde, When ye doe the office of a midwife to the women of the Ebrewes, and see them on their stooles, if it be a sonne, then yee shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then let her liue.

KJVAnd he said^H559^(H8799), When ye do the office of a midwife^H3205^(H8763) to the Hebrew women^H5680, and see^H7200^(H8804) them upon the stools^H70; if it be a son^H1121, then ye shall kill^H4191^(H8689) him: but if it be a daughter^H1323, then she shall live^H2425^(H8804).

¹⁷ Notwithstanding ye midwiues feared God, and did not as the King of Egypt commaunded them, but preserued aliue the men children.

KJVBut the midwives^H3205^(H8764) feared^H3372^(H8799) God^H430, and did^H6213^(H8804) not as the king^H4428 of Egypt^H4714 commanded^H1696^(H8765) them, but saved^H2421 the men children^H3206 alive^H2421^(H8762).

¹⁸ Then the King of Egypt called for the midwiues, and sayde vnto them, Why haue yee done thus, and haue preserued aliue the men children?

KJVAnd the king^H4428 of Egypt^H4714 called^H7121^(H8799) for the midwives^H3205^(H8764), and said^H559^(H8799) unto them, Why^H4069 have ye done^H6213^(H8804) this thing^H1697, and have saved^H2421 the men children^H3206 alive^H2421^(H8762)?

¹⁹ And the midwiues answered Pharaoh, Because the Ebrewe women are not as the women of Egypt: for they are liuely, and are deliuered yer the midwife come at them.

KJVAnd the midwives^H3205^(H8764) said^H559^(H8799) unto Pharaoh^H6547, Because the Hebrew^H5680 women^H802 are not as the Egyptian women^H4713; for they are lively^H2422, and are delivered^H3205^(H8804) ere^H2962 the midwives^H3205^(H8764) come in^H935^(H8799) unto them.

²⁰ God therefore prospered the midwiues, and the people multiplied and were very mightie.

KJVTherefore God^H430 dealt well^H3190^(H8686) with the midwives^H3205^(H8764): and the people^H5971 multiplied^H7235^(H8799), and waxed very^H3966 mighty^H6105^(H8799).

²¹ And because ye midwiues feared God, therefore he made them houses.

KJVAnd it came to pass, because the midwives^H3205^(H8764) feared^H3372^(H8804) God^H430, that he made^H6213^(H8799) them houses^H1004.

²² Then Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Euery man childe that is borne, cast yee into the riuer, but reserue euery maide childe aliue.

KJVAnd Pharaoh^H6547 charged^H6680^(H8762) all his people^H5971, saying^H559^(H8800), Every son^H1121 that is born^H3209 ye shall cast^H7993^(H8686) into the river^H2975, and every daughter^H1323 ye shall save alive^H2421^(H8762).
