Exodus 20
WEB·Exodus 20
1God spoke all these words, saying,
KJVAnd GodH430 spakeH1696(H8762) all these wordsH1697, sayingH559(H8800),
2 “I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
KJVI am the LORDH3068 thy GodH430, which have broughtH3318(H8689) thee out of the landH776 of EgyptH4714, out of the houseH1004 of bondageH5650.
3 “You shall have no other gods before me.
KJVThou shalt have no otherH312 godsH430 before meH6440.
4 “You shall not make for yourselves an idol, nor any image of anything that is in the heavens above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
KJVThou shalt not makeH6213(H8799) unto thee any graven imageH6459, or any likenessH8544 of any thing thatH834 is in heavenH8064 aboveH4605, or that is in the earthH776 beneath, or that is in the waterH4325 under the earthH776:
5 you shall not bow yourself down to them, nor serve them, for I, Yahweh your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and on the fourth generation of those who hate me,
KJVThou shalt not bow downH7812(H8691) thyself to them, nor serveH5647(H8714) them: for I the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 am a jealousH7067 GodH410, visitingH6485(H8802) the iniquityH5771 of the fathersH1 upon the childrenH1121 unto the thirdH8029 and fourthH7256 generation of them that hateH8130(H8802) me;
6 and showing loving kindness to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.
KJVAnd shewingH6213(H8802) mercyH2617 unto thousandsH505 of them that loveH157(H8802) me, and keepH8104(H8802) my commandmentsH4687.
7 “You shall not misuse the name of Yahweh your God, for Yahweh will not hold him guiltless who misuses his name.
KJVThou shalt not takeH5375(H8799) the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 in vainH7723; for the LORDH3068 will not hold him guiltlessH5352(H8762) that takethH5375(H8799) his nameH8034 in vainH7723.
8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
KJVRememberH2142(H8800) the sabbathH7676 dayH3117, to keep it holyH6942(H8763).
9 You shall labor six days, and do all your work,
KJVSixH8337 daysH3117 shalt thou labourH5647(H8799), and doH6213(H8804) all thy workH4399:
10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to Yahweh your God. You shall not do any work in it, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your livestock, nor your stranger who is within your gates;
KJVBut the seventhH7637 dayH3117 is the sabbathH7676 of the LORDH3068 thy GodH430: in it thou shalt not doH6213(H8799) any workH4399, thou, nor thy sonH1121, nor thy daughterH1323, thy manservantH5650, nor thy maidservantH519, nor thy cattleH929, nor thy strangerH1616 that is within thy gatesH8179:
11 for in six days Yahweh made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day; therefore Yahweh blessed the Sabbath day, and made it holy.
KJVFor in sixH8337 daysH3117 the LORDH3068 madeH6213(H8804) heavenH8064 and earthH776, the seaH3220, and all that in them is, and restedH5117(H8799) the seventhH7637 dayH3117: wherefore the LORDH3068 blessedH1288(H8765) the sabbathH7676 dayH3117, and hallowedH6942(H8762) it.
12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which Yahweh your God gives you.
KJVHonourH3513(H8761) thy fatherH1 and thy motherH517: that thy daysH3117 may be longH748(H8686) upon the landH127 which the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 givethH5414(H8802) thee.
13 “You shall not murder.
KJVThou shalt not killH7523(H8799).
14 “You shall not commit adultery.
KJVThou shalt not commit adulteryH5003(H8799).
15 “You shall not steal.
KJVThou shalt not stealH1589(H8799).
16 “You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
KJVThou shalt not bearH6030(H8799) falseH8267 witnessH5707 against thy neighbourH7453.
17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”
KJVThou shalt not covetH2530(H8799) thy neighbour'sH7453 houseH1004, thou shalt not covetH2530(H8799) thy neighbour'sH7453 wifeH802, nor his manservantH5650, nor his maidservantH519, nor his oxH7794, nor his assH2543, nor any thing that is thy neighbour'sH7453.
18 All the people perceived the thunderings, the lightnings, the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking. When the people saw it, they trembled, and stayed at a distance.
KJVAnd all the peopleH5971 sawH7200(H8802) the thunderingsH6963, and the lightningsH3940, and the noiseH6963 of the trumpetH7782, and the mountainH2022 smokingH6226: and when the peopleH5971 sawH7200(H8799) it, they removedH5128(H8799), and stoodH5975(H8799) afar offH7350.
19 They said to Moses, “Speak with us yourself, and we will listen; but don’t let God speak with us, lest we die.”
KJVAnd they saidH559(H8799) unto MosesH4872, SpeakH1696(H8761) thou with us, and we will hearH8085(H8799): but let not GodH430 speakH1696(H8762) with us, lest we dieH4191(H8799).
20 Moses said to the people, “Don’t be afraid, for God has come to test you, and that his fear may be before you, that you won’t sin.”
KJVAnd MosesH4872 saidH559(H8799) unto the peopleH5971, FearH3372(H8799) not: for GodH430 is comeH935(H8804) toH5668 proveH5254(H8763) you, and that his fearH3374 may be before your facesH6440, that ye sinH2398(H8799) not.
21 The people stayed at a distance, and Moses came near to the thick darkness where God was.
KJVAnd the peopleH5971 stoodH5975(H8799) afar offH7350, and MosesH4872 drew nearH5066(H8738) unto the thick darknessH6205 where GodH430 was.
22 Yahweh said to Moses, “This is what you shall tell the children of Israel: ‘You yourselves have seen that I have talked with you from heaven.
KJVAnd the LORDH3068 saidH559(H8799) unto MosesH4872, Thus thou shalt sayH559(H8799) unto the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478, Ye have seenH7200(H8804) that I have talkedH1696(H8765) with you from heavenH8064.
23 You shall most certainly not make gods of silver or gods of gold for yourselves to be alongside me.
KJVYe shall not makeH6213(H8799) with me godsH430 of silverH3701, neither shall ye makeH6213(H8799) unto you godsH430 of goldH2091.
24 You shall make an altar of earth for me, and shall sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and your peace offerings, your sheep and your cattle. In every place where I record my name I will come to you and I will bless you.
KJVAn altarH4196 of earthH127 thou shalt makeH6213(H8799) unto me, and shalt sacrificeH2076(H8804) thereon thy burnt offeringsH5930, and thy peace offeringsH8002, thy sheepH6629, and thine oxenH1241: in all placesH4725 where I recordH2142(H8686) my nameH8034 I will comeH935(H8799) unto thee, and I will blessH1288(H8765) thee.
25 If you make me an altar of stone, you shall not build it of cut stones; for if you lift up your tool on it, you have polluted it.
KJVAnd if thou wilt makeH6213(H8799) me an altarH4196 of stoneH68, thou shalt not buildH1129(H8799) it of hewn stoneH1496: for if thou lift upH5130(H8689) thy toolH2719 upon it, thou hast pollutedH2490(H8762) it.
26 You shall not go up by steps to my altar, that your nakedness may not be exposed to it.’
KJVNeither shalt thou go upH5927(H8799) by stepsH4609 unto mine altarH4196, that thy nakednessH6172 be not discoveredH1540(H8735) thereon.
