Exodus 3
WEB·Exodus 3
1Now Moses was keeping the flock of Jethro, his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the back of the wilderness, and came to God’s mountain, to Horeb.
KJVNow MosesH4872 keptH1961(H8804)H7462(H8802) the flockH6629 of JethroH3503 his father in lawH2859(H8802), the priestH3548 of MidianH4080: and he ledH5090(H8799) the flockH6629 to the backsideH310 of the desertH4057, and cameH935(H8799) to the mountainH2022 of GodH430, even to HorebH2722.
2 Yahweh’s angel appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the middle of a bush. He looked, and behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.
KJVAnd the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 appearedH7200(H8735) unto him in a flameH3827 of fireH784 out of the midstH8432 of a bushH5572: and he lookedH7200(H8799), and, behold, the bushH5572 burnedH1197(H8802) with fireH784, and the bushH5572 was not consumedH398(H8794).
3 Moses said, “I will go now, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burned.”
KJVAnd MosesH4872 saidH559(H8799), I will now turn asideH5493(H8799), and seeH7200(H8799) this greatH1419 sightH4758, whyH4069 the bushH5572 is not burntH1197(H8799).
4 When Yahweh saw that he came over to see, God called to him out of the middle of the bush, and said, “Moses! Moses!” He said, “Here I am.”
KJVAnd when the LORDH3068 sawH7200(H8799) that he turned asideH5493(H8804) to seeH7200(H8800), GodH430 calledH7121(H8799) unto him out of the midstH8432 of the bushH5572, and saidH559(H8799), MosesH4872, MosesH4872. And he saidH559(H8799), Here am I.
5 He said, “Don’t come close. Take off your sandals, for the place you are standing on is holy ground.”
KJVAnd he saidH559(H8799), Draw not nighH7126(H8799) hitherH1988: put offH5394(H8798) thy shoesH5275 from off thy feetH7272, for the placeH4725 whereonH834 thou standestH5975(H8802) is holyH6944 groundH127.
6 Moreover he said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” Moses hid his face because he was afraid to look at God.
KJVMoreover he saidH559(H8799), I am the GodH430 of thy fatherH1, the GodH430 of AbrahamH85, the GodH430 of IsaacH3327, and the GodH430 of JacobH3290. And MosesH4872 hidH5641(H8686) his faceH6440; for he was afraidH3372(H8804) to lookH5027(H8687) upon GodH430.
7 Yahweh said, “I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows.
KJVAnd the LORDH3068 saidH559(H8799), I have surelyH7200(H8800) seenH7200(H8804) the afflictionH6040 of my peopleH5971 which are in EgyptH4714, and have heardH8085(H8804) their cryH6818 by reasonH6440 of their taskmastersH5065(H8802); for I knowH3045(H8804) their sorrowsH4341;
8 I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey; to the place of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite.
KJVAnd I am come downH3381(H8799) to deliverH5337(H8687) them out of the handH3027 of the EgyptiansH4714, and to bringH5927(H8687) them up out of that landH776 unto a goodH2896 landH776 and a largeH7342, unto a landH776 flowingH2100(H8802) with milkH2461 and honeyH1706; unto the placeH4725 of the CanaanitesH3669, and the HittitesH2850, and the AmoritesH567, and the PerizzitesH6522, and the HivitesH2340, and the JebusitesH2983.
9 Now, behold, the cry of the children of Israel has come to me. Moreover I have seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them.
KJVNow therefore, behold, the cryH6818 of the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 is comeH935(H8804) unto me: and I have also seenH7200(H8804) the oppressionH3906 wherewith the EgyptiansH4714 oppressH3905(H8801) them.
10 Come now therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh, that you may bring my people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.”
KJVComeH3212(H8798) now therefore, and I will sendH7971(H8799) thee unto PharaohH6547, that thou mayest bring forthH3318(H8685) my peopleH5971 the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 out of EgyptH4714.
11 Moses said to God, “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?”
KJVAnd MosesH4872 saidH559(H8799) unto GodH430, Who am I, that I should goH3212(H8799) unto PharaohH6547, and that I should bring forthH3318(H8686) the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 out of EgyptH4714?
12 He said, “Certainly I will be with you. This will be the token to you, that I have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.”
KJVAnd he saidH559(H8799), Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a tokenH226 unto thee, thatH3588 I have sentH7971(H8804) thee: When thou hast brought forthH3318(H8687) the peopleH5971 out of EgyptH4714, ye shall serveH5647(H8799) GodH430 upon this mountainH2022.
13 Moses said to God, “Behold, when I come to the children of Israel, and tell them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what should I tell them?”
KJVAnd MosesH4872 saidH559(H8799) unto GodH430, Behold, when I comeH935(H8802) unto the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478, and shall sayH559(H8804) unto them, The GodH430 of your fathersH1 hath sentH7971(H8804) me unto you; and they shall sayH559(H8804) to me, What is his nameH8034? what shall I sayH559(H8799) unto them?
14 God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM,” and he said, “You shall tell the children of Israel this: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”
KJVAnd GodH430 saidH559(H8799) unto MosesH4872, I AMH1961(H8799) THAT I AMH1961(H8799): and he saidH559(H8799), Thus shalt thou sayH559(H8799) unto the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478, I AM hath sentH7971(H8804) me unto you.
15 God said moreover to Moses, “You shall tell the children of Israel this, ‘Yahweh, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.’ This is my name forever, and this is my memorial to all generations.
KJVAnd GodH430 saidH559(H8799) moreoverH5750 unto MosesH4872, Thus shalt thou sayH559(H8799) unto the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478, The LORDH3068 GodH430 of your fathersH1, the GodH430 of AbrahamH85, the GodH430 of IsaacH3327, and the GodH430 of JacobH3290, hath sentH7971(H8804) me unto you: this is my nameH8034 for everH5769, and this is my memorialH2143 unto allH1755 generationsH1755.
16 Go and gather the elders of Israel together, and tell them, ‘Yahweh, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, has appeared to me, saying, “I have surely visited you, and seen that which is done to you in Egypt.
KJVGoH3212(H8798), and gatherH622 the eldersH2205 of IsraelH3478 togetherH622(H8804), and sayH559(H8804) unto them, The LORDH3068 GodH430 of your fathersH1, the GodH430 of AbrahamH85, of IsaacH3327, and of JacobH3290, appearedH7200(H8738) unto me, sayingH559(H8800), I have surelyH6485(H8800) visitedH6485(H8804) you, and seen that which is doneH6213(H8803) to you in EgyptH4714:
17 I have said, I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt to the land of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, to a land flowing with milk and honey.”’
KJVAnd I have saidH559(H8799), I will bringH5927(H8686) you up out of the afflictionH6040 of EgyptH4714 unto the landH776 of the CanaanitesH3669, and the HittitesH2850, and the AmoritesH567, and the PerizzitesH6522, and the HivitesH2340, and the JebusitesH2983, unto a landH776 flowingH2100(H8802) with milkH2461 and honeyH1706.
18 They will listen to your voice. You shall come, you and the elders of Israel, to the king of Egypt, and you shall tell him, ‘Yahweh, the God of the Hebrews, has met with us. Now please let us go three days’ journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to Yahweh, our God.’
KJVAnd they shall hearkenH8085(H8804) to thy voiceH6963: and thou shalt comeH935(H8804), thou and the eldersH2205 of IsraelH3478, unto the kingH4428 of EgyptH4714, and ye shall sayH559(H8804) unto him, The LORDH3068 GodH430 of the HebrewsH5680 hath metH7136(H8738) with us: and now let us goH3212(H8799), we beseech thee, threeH7969 daysH3117' journeyH1870 into the wildernessH4057, that we may sacrificeH2076(H8799) to the LORDH3068 our GodH430.
19 I know that the king of Egypt won’t give you permission to go, no, not by a mighty hand.
KJVAnd I am sureH3045(H8804) that the kingH4428 of EgyptH4714 will not letH5414(H8799) you goH1980(H8800), no, not by a mightyH2389 handH3027.
20 I will reach out my hand and strike Egypt with all my wonders which I will do among them, and after that he will let you go.
KJVAnd I will stretch outH7971(H8804) my handH3027, and smiteH5221(H8689) EgyptH4714 with all my wondersH6381(H8737) which I will doH6213(H8799) in the midstH7130 thereof: and afterH310 that he will let you goH7971(H8762).
21 I will give this people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, and it will happen that when you go, you shall not go empty-handed.
KJVAnd I will giveH5414(H8804) this peopleH5971 favourH2580 in the sightH5869 of the EgyptiansH4714: and it shall come to pass, that, when ye goH3212(H8799), ye shall not goH3212(H8799) emptyH7387:
22 But every woman shall ask of her neighbor, and of her who visits her house, jewels of silver, jewels of gold, and clothing. You shall put them on your sons, and on your daughters. You shall plunder the Egyptians.”
KJVBut every womanH802 shall borrowH7592(H8804) of her neighbourH7934, and of her that sojournethH1481(H8802) in her houseH1004, jewelsH3627 of silverH3701, and jewelsH3627 of goldH2091, and raimentH8071: and ye shall putH7760(H8804) them upon your sonsH1121, and upon your daughtersH1323; and ye shall spoilH5337(H8765) the EgyptiansH4714.
