¹Yahweh said to Moses, “Now you shall see what I will do to Pharaoh, for by a strong hand he shall let them go, and by a strong hand he shall drive them out of his land.”

² God spoke to Moses, and said to him, “I am Yahweh.

³ I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, as God Almighty; but by my name Yahweh I was not known to them.

⁴ I have also established my covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their travels, in which they lived as aliens.

⁵ Moreover I have heard the groaning of the children of Israel, whom the Egyptians keep in bondage, and I have remembered my covenant.

⁶ Therefore tell the children of Israel, ‘I am Yahweh, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm, and with great judgments.

⁷ I will take you to myself for a people. I will be your God; and you shall know that I am Yahweh your God, who brings you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.

⁸ I will bring you into the land which I swore to give to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; and I will give it to you for a heritage: I am Yahweh.’”

⁹ Moses spoke so to the children of Israel, but they didn’t listen to Moses for anguish of spirit, and for cruel bondage.

¹⁰ Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

¹¹ “Go in, speak to Pharaoh king of Egypt, that he let the children of Israel go out of his land.”

¹² Moses spoke before Yahweh, saying, “Behold, the children of Israel haven’t listened to me. How then shall Pharaoh listen to me, when I have uncircumcised lips?”

¹³ Yahweh spoke to Moses and to Aaron, and gave them a command to the children of Israel, and to Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt.

¹⁴ These are the heads of their fathers’ houses. The sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel: Hanoch, and Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi; these are the families of Reuben.

¹⁵ The sons of Simeon: Jemuel, and Jamin, and Ohad, and Jachin, and Zohar, and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman; these are the families of Simeon.

KJVAnd the sons^H1121 of Simeon^H8095; Jemuel^H3223, and Jamin^H3226, and Ohad^H161, and Jachin^H3199, and Zohar^H6714, and Shaul^H7586 the son^H1121 of a Canaanitish woman^H3669: these are the families^H4940 of Simeon^H8095.

¹⁶ These are the names of the sons of Levi according to their generations: Gershon, and Kohath, and Merari; and the years of the life of Levi were one hundred thirty-seven years.

KJVAnd these are the names^H8034 of the sons^H1121 of Levi^H3878 according to their generations^H8435; Gershon^H1648, and Kohath^H6955, and Merari^H4847: and the years^H8141 of the life^H2416 of Levi^H3878 were an hundred^H3967 thirty^H7970 and seven^H7651 years^H8141.

¹⁷ The sons of Gershon: Libni and Shimei, according to their families.

KJVThe sons^H1121 of Gershon^H1648; Libni^H3845, and Shimi^H8096, according to their families^H4940.

¹⁸ The sons of Kohath: Amram, and Izhar, and Hebron, and Uzziel; and the years of the life of Kohath were one hundred thirty-three years.

¹⁹ The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. These are the families of the Levites according to their generations.

KJVAnd the sons^H1121 of Merari^H4847; Mahali^H4249 and Mushi^H4187: these are the families^H4940 of Levi^H3878 according to their generations^H8435.

²⁰ Amram took Jochebed his father’s sister to himself as wife; and she bore him Aaron and Moses. The years of the life of Amram were one hundred thirty-seven years.

²¹ The sons of Izhar: Korah, and Nepheg, and Zichri.

²² The sons of Uzziel: Mishael, Elzaphan, and Sithri.

²³ Aaron took Elisheba, the daughter of Amminadab, the sister of Nahshon, as his wife; and she bore him Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.

²⁴ The sons of Korah: Assir, Elkanah, and Abiasaph; these are the families of the Korahites.

KJVAnd the sons^H1121 of Korah^H7141; Assir^H617, and Elkanah^H511, and Abiasaph^H23: these are the families^H4940 of the Korhites^H7145.

²⁵ Eleazar Aaron’s son took one of the daughters of Putiel as his wife; and she bore him Phinehas. These are the heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites according to their families.

KJVAnd Eleazar^H499 Aaron's^H175 son^H1121 took^H3947^(H8804) him one of the daughters^H1323 of Putiel^H6317 to wife^H802; and she bare^H3205^(H8799) him Phinehas^H6372: these are the heads^H7218 of the fathers^H1 of the Levites^H3881 according to their families^H4940.

²⁶ These are that Aaron and Moses to whom Yahweh said, “Bring out the children of Israel from the land of Egypt according to their armies.”

²⁷ These are those who spoke to Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring out the children of Israel from Egypt. These are that Moses and Aaron.

²⁸ On the day when Yahweh spoke to Moses in the land of Egypt,

²⁹ Yahweh said to Moses, “I am Yahweh. Tell Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I tell you.”

³⁰ Moses said before Yahweh, “Behold, I am of uncircumcised lips, and how shall Pharaoh listen to me?”

¹Afterward Moses and Aaron came, and said to Pharaoh, “This is what Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, ‘Let my people go, that they may hold a feast to me in the wilderness.’”

² Pharaoh said, “Who is Yahweh, that I should listen to his voice to let Israel go? I don’t know Yahweh, and moreover I will not let Israel go.”

³ They said, “The God of the Hebrews has met with us. Please let us go three days’ journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice to Yahweh, our God, lest he fall on us with pestilence, or with the sword.”

⁴ The king of Egypt said to them, “Why do you, Moses and Aaron, take the people from their work? Get back to your burdens!”

KJVAnd the king^H4428 of Egypt^H4714 said^H559^(H8799) unto them, Wherefore do ye, Moses^H4872 and Aaron^H175, let^H6544^(H8686) the people^H5971 from their works^H4639? get^H3212^(H8798) you unto your burdens^H5450.

⁵ Pharaoh said, “Behold, the people of the land are now many, and you make them rest from their burdens.”

⁶ The same day Pharaoh commanded the taskmasters of the people and their officers, saying,

⁷ “You shall no longer give the people straw to make brick, as before. Let them go and gather straw for themselves.

⁸ You shall require from them the number of the bricks which they made before. You shall not diminish anything of it, for they are idle. Therefore they cry, saying, ‘Let’s go and sacrifice to our God.’

⁹ Let heavier work be laid on the men, that they may labor in it. Don’t let them pay any attention to lying words.”

¹⁰ The taskmasters of the people went out with their officers, and they spoke to the people, saying, “This is what Pharaoh says: ‘I will not give you straw.

¹¹ Go yourselves, get straw where you can find it, for nothing of your work shall be diminished.’”

¹² So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble for straw.

¹³ The taskmasters were urgent saying, “Fulfill your work quota daily, as when there was straw!”

¹⁴ The officers of the children of Israel, whom Pharaoh’s taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and were asked, “Why haven’t you fulfilled your quota both yesterday and today, in making brick as before?”

¹⁵ Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried to Pharaoh, saying, “Why do you deal this way with your servants?

¹⁶ No straw is given to your servants, and they tell us, ‘Make brick!’ and behold, your servants are beaten; but the fault is in your own people.”

¹⁷ But Pharaoh said, “You are idle! You are idle! Therefore you say, ‘Let’s go and sacrifice to Yahweh.’

¹⁸ Go therefore now, and work; for no straw shall be given to you; yet you shall deliver the same number of bricks!”

¹⁹ The officers of the children of Israel saw that they were in trouble when it was said, “You shall not diminish anything from your daily quota of bricks!”

KJVAnd the officers^H7860^(H8802) of the children^H1121 of Israel^H3478 did see^H7200^(H8799) that they were in evil^H7451 case, after it was said^H559^(H8800), Ye shall not minish^H1639^(H8799) ought from your bricks^H3843 of your daily^H3117^H3117 task^H1697.

²⁰ They met Moses and Aaron, who stood along the way, as they came out from Pharaoh.

KJVAnd they met^H6293^(H8799) Moses^H4872 and Aaron^H175, who stood^H5324^(H8737) in the way^H7125^(H8800), as they came forth^H3318^(H8800) from Pharaoh^H6547:

²¹ They said to them, “May Yahweh look at you and judge, because you have made us a stench to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to kill us!”

KJVAnd they said^H559^(H8799) unto them, The LORD^H3068 look^H7200^(H8799) upon you, and judge^H8199^(H8799); because ye have made our savour^H7381 to be abhorred^H887^(H8689) in the eyes^H5869 of Pharaoh^H6547, and in the eyes^H5869 of his servants^H5650, to put^H5414^(H8800) a sword^H2719 in their hand^H3027 to slay^H2026^(H8800) us.

²² Moses returned to Yahweh, and said, “Lord, why have you brought trouble on this people? Why is it that you have sent me?

KJVAnd Moses^H4872 returned^H7725^(H8799) unto the LORD^H3068, and said^H559^(H8799), Lord^H136, wherefore hast thou so evil entreated^H7489^(H8689) this people^H5971? why is it that thou hast sent^H7971^(H8804) me?

²³ For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in your name, he has brought trouble on this people. You have not rescued your people at all!”

KJVFor since I came^H935^(H8804) to Pharaoh^H6547 to speak^H1696^(H8763) in thy name^H8034, he hath done evil^H7489^(H8689) to this people^H5971; neither hast thou delivered^H5337^(H8689) thy people^H5971 at all^H5337^(H8687).
