¹The burden of Egypt. “Behold, Yahweh rides on a swift cloud, and comes to Egypt. The idols of Egypt will tremble at his presence; and the heart of Egypt will melt within it.

² I will stir up the Egyptians against the Egyptians, and they will fight everyone against his brother, and everyone against his neighbor; city against city, and kingdom against kingdom.

KJVAnd I will set^H5526^(H8773) the Egyptians^H4714 against the Egyptians^H4714: and they shall fight^H3898^(H8738) every one^H376 against his brother^H251, and every one^H376 against his neighbour^H7453; city^H5892 against city^H5892, and kingdom^H4467 against kingdom^H4467.

³ The spirit of the Egyptians will fail within them. I will destroy their counsel. They will seek the idols, the charmers, those who have familiar spirits, and the wizards.

⁴ I will give over the Egyptians into the hand of a cruel lord. A fierce king will rule over them,” says the Lord, Yahweh of Armies.

⁵ The waters will fail from the sea, and the river will be wasted and become dry.

KJVAnd the waters^H4325 shall fail^H5405^(H8738) from the sea^H3220, and the river^H5104 shall be wasted^H2717^(H8799) and dried up^H3001^(H8804).

⁶ The rivers will become foul. The streams of Egypt will be diminished and dried up. The reeds and flags will wither away.

KJVAnd they shall turn^H2186 the rivers^H5104 far away^H2186^(H8689); and the brooks^H2975 of defence^H4693 shall be emptied^H1809^(H8804) and dried up^H2717^(H8804): the reeds^H7070 and flags^H5488 shall wither^H7060^(H8804).

⁷ The meadows by the Nile, by the brink of the Nile, and all the sown fields of the Nile, will become dry, be driven away, and be no more.

KJVThe paper reeds^H6169 by the brooks^H2975, by the mouth^H6310 of the brooks^H2975, and every thing sown^H4218 by the brooks^H2975, shall wither^H3001^(H8799), be driven away^H5086^(H8738), and be no more.

⁸ The fishermen will lament, and all those who fish in the Nile will mourn, and those who spread nets on the waters will languish.

KJVThe fishers^H1771 also shall mourn^H578^(H8804), and all they that cast^H7993^(H8688) angle^H2443 into the brooks^H2975 shall lament^H56^(H8804), and they that spread^H6566^(H8802) nets^H4365 upon^H6440 the waters^H4325 shall languish^H535^(H8797).

⁹ Moreover those who work in combed flax, and those who weave white cloth, will be confounded.

¹⁰ The pillars will be broken in pieces. All those who work for hire will be grieved in soul.

KJVAnd they shall be broken^H1792^(H8794) in the purposes^H8356 thereof, all that make^H6213^(H8802) sluices^H7938 and ponds^H99 for fish^H5315.

¹¹ The princes of Zoan are utterly foolish. The counsel of the wisest counselors of Pharaoh has become stupid. How do you say to Pharaoh, “I am the son of the wise, the son of ancient kings”?

KJVSurely the princes^H8269 of Zoan^H6814 are fools^H191, the counsel^H6098 of the wise^H2450 counsellors^H3289^(H8802) of Pharaoh^H6547 is become brutish^H1197^(H8737): how say^H559^(H8799) ye unto Pharaoh^H6547, I am the son^H1121 of the wise^H2450, the son^H1121 of ancient^H6924 kings^H4428?

¹² Where then are your wise men? Let them tell you now; and let them know what Yahweh of Armies has purposed concerning Egypt.

KJVWhere^H335 are they? where^H645 are thy wise^H2450 men? and let them tell^H5046^(H8686) thee now, and let them know^H3045^(H8799) what the LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635 hath purposed^H3289^(H8804) upon Egypt^H4714.

¹³ The princes of Zoan have become fools. The princes of Memphis are deceived. They have caused Egypt to go astray, those who are the cornerstone of her tribes.

KJVThe princes^H8269 of Zoan^H6814 are become fools^H2973^(H8738), the princes^H8269 of Noph^H5297 are deceived^H5377^(H8738); they have also seduced^H8582^(H8689) Egypt^H4714, even they that are the stay^H6438 of the tribes^H7626 thereof.

¹⁴ Yahweh has mixed a spirit of perverseness in the middle of her; and they have caused Egypt to go astray in all of its works, like a drunken man staggers in his vomit.

KJVThe LORD^H3068 hath mingled^H4537^(H8804) a perverse^H5773 spirit^H7307 in the midst^H7130 thereof: and they have caused Egypt^H4714 to err^H8582^(H8689) in every work^H4639 thereof, as a drunken^H7910 man staggereth^H8582^(H8736) in his vomit^H6892.

¹⁵ Neither shall there be any work for Egypt, which head or tail, palm branch or rush, may do.

KJVNeither shall there be any work^H4639 for Egypt^H4714, which the head^H7218 or tail^H2180, branch^H3712 or rush^H100, may do^H6213^(H8799).

¹⁶ In that day the Egyptians will be like women. They will tremble and fear because of the shaking of Yahweh of Armies’s hand, which he shakes over them.

KJVIn that day^H3117 shall Egypt^H4714 be like unto women^H802: and it shall be afraid^H2729^(H8804) and fear^H6342^(H8804) because^H6440 of the shaking^H8573 of the hand^H3027 of the LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635, which he shaketh^H5130^(H8688) over it.

¹⁷ The land of Judah will become a terror to Egypt. Everyone to whom mention is made of it will be afraid, because of the plans of Yahweh of Armies, which he determines against it.

KJVAnd the land^H127 of Judah^H3063 shall be a terror^H2283 unto Egypt^H4714, every one that maketh mention^H2142^(H8686) thereof shall be afraid^H6342^(H8799) in himself, because^H6440 of the counsel^H6098 of the LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635, which he hath determined^H3289^(H8802) against it.

¹⁸ In that day, there will be five cities in the land of Egypt that speak the language of Canaan, and swear to Yahweh of Armies. One will be called “The city of destruction.”

KJVIn that day^H3117 shall five^H2568 cities^H5892 in the land^H776 of Egypt^H4714 speak^H1696^(H8764) the language^H8193 of Canaan^H3667, and swear^H7650^(H8737) to the LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635; one^H259 shall be called^H559^(H8735), The city^H5892 of destruction^H2041.

¹⁹ In that day, there will be an altar to Yahweh in the middle of the land of Egypt, and a pillar to Yahweh at its border.

KJVIn that day^H3117 shall there be an altar^H4196 to the LORD^H3068 in the midst^H8432 of the land^H776 of Egypt^H4714, and a pillar^H4676 at^H681 the border^H1366 thereof to the LORD^H3068.

²⁰ It will be for a sign and for a witness to Yahweh of Armies in the land of Egypt; for they will cry to Yahweh because of oppressors, and he will send them a savior and a defender, and he will deliver them.

KJVAnd it shall be for a sign^H226 and for a witness^H5707 unto the LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635 in the land^H776 of Egypt^H4714: for they shall cry^H6817^(H8799) unto the LORD^H3068 because^H6440 of the oppressors^H3905^(H8801), and he shall send^H7971^(H8799) them a saviour^H3467^(H8688), and a great one^H7227, and he shall deliver^H5337^(H8689) them.

²¹ Yahweh will be known to Egypt, and the Egyptians will know Yahweh in that day. Yes, they will worship with sacrifice and offering, and will vow a vow to Yahweh, and will perform it.

KJVAnd the LORD^H3068 shall be known^H3045^(H8738) to Egypt^H4714, and the Egyptians^H4714 shall know^H3045^(H8804) the LORD^H3068 in that day^H3117, and shall do^H5647^(H8804) sacrifice^H2077 and oblation^H4503; yea, they shall vow^H5087^(H8804) a vow^H5088 unto the LORD^H3068, and perform^H7999^(H8765) it.

²² Yahweh will strike Egypt, striking and healing. They will return to Yahweh, and he will be entreated by them, and will heal them.

KJVAnd the LORD^H3068 shall smite^H5062^(H8804) Egypt^H4714: he shall smite^H5062^(H8800) and heal^H7495^(H8800) it: and they shall return^H7725^(H8804) even to the LORD^H3068, and he shall be intreated^H6279^(H8738) of them, and shall heal^H7495^(H8804) them.

²³ In that day there will be a highway out of Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian shall come into Egypt, and the Egyptian into Assyria; and the Egyptians will worship with the Assyrians.

²⁴ In that day, Israel will be the third with Egypt and with Assyria, a blessing within the earth;

²⁵ because Yahweh of Armies has blessed them, saying, “Blessed be Egypt my people, Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel my inheritance.”

¹Ah, the land of the rustling of wings, which is beyond the rivers of Ethiopia;

² that sends ambassadors by the sea, even in vessels of papyrus on the waters, saying, “Go, you swift messengers, to a nation tall and smooth, to a people awesome from their beginning onward, a nation that measures out and treads down, whose land the rivers divide!”

³ All you inhabitants of the world, and you dwellers on the earth, when a banner is lifted up on the mountains, look! When the trumpet is blown, listen!

⁴ For Yahweh said to me, “I will be still, and I will see in my dwelling place, like clear heat in sunshine, like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.”

⁵ For before the harvest, when the blossom is over, and the flower becomes a ripening grape, he will cut off the sprigs with pruning hooks, and he will cut down and take away the spreading branches.

⁶ They will be left together for the ravenous birds of the mountains, and for the animals of the earth. The ravenous birds will eat them in the summer, and all the animals of the earth will eat them in the winter.

⁷ In that time, a present will be brought to Yahweh of Armies from a people tall and smooth, even from a people awesome from their beginning onward, a nation that measures out and treads down, whose land the rivers divide, to the place of the name of Yahweh of Armies, Mount Zion.
