Isaiah 64

WEB·Isaiah 64
1Oh that you would tear the heavens, that you would come down, that the mountains might quake at your presence—
KJVOhH3863 that thou wouldest rendH7167(H8804) the heavensH8064, that thou wouldest come downH3381(H8804), that the mountainsH2022 might flow downH2151(H8738) at thy presenceH6440,
2 as when fire kindles the brushwood, and the fire causes the water to boil. Make your name known to your adversaries, that the nations may tremble at your presence!
KJVAs when the meltingH2003 fireH784 burnethH6919(H8800), the fireH784 causeth the watersH4325 to boilH1158(H8799), to make thy nameH8034 knownH3045(H8687) to thine adversariesH6862, that the nationsH1471 may trembleH7264(H8799) at thy presenceH6440!
3 When you did awesome things which we didn’t look for, you came down, and the mountains quaked at your presence.
KJVWhen thou didstH6213(H8800) terrible thingsH3372(H8737) which we lookedH6960(H8762) not for, thou camest downH3381(H8804), the mountainsH2022 flowed downH2151(H8738) at thy presenceH6440.
4 For from of old men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, nor has the eye seen a God besides you, who works for him who waits for him.
KJVFor since the beginning of the worldH5769 men have not heardH8085(H8804), nor perceived by the earH238(H8689), neither hath the eyeH5869 seenH7200(H8804), O GodH430, besideH2108 thee, what he hath preparedH6213(H8799) for him that waitethH2442(H8764) for him.
5 You meet him who rejoices and does righteousness, those who remember you in your ways. Behold, you were angry, and we sinned. We have been in sin for a long time. Shall we be saved?
KJVThou meetestH6293(H8804) him that rejoicethH7797(H8801) and workethH6213(H8802) righteousnessH6664, those that rememberH2142(H8799) thee in thy waysH1870: behold, thou art wrothH7107(H8804); for we have sinnedH2398(H8799): in those is continuanceH5769, and we shall be savedH3467(H8735).
6 For we have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteousness is like a polluted garment. We all fade like a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.
KJVBut we are all as an uncleanH2931 thing, and all our righteousnessesH6666 are as filthyH5708 ragsH899; and we all do fadeH5034(H8799)(H8676)H1101(H8686) as a leafH5929; and our iniquitiesH5771, like the windH7307, have taken us awayH5375(H8799).
7 There is no one who calls on your name, who stirs himself up to take hold of you; for you have hidden your face from us, and have consumed us by means of our iniquities.
KJVAnd there is none that callethH7121(H8802) upon thy nameH8034, that stirreth upH5782(H8711) himself to take holdH2388(H8687) of thee: for thou hast hidH5641(H8689) thy faceH6440 from us, and hast consumedH4127(H8799) us, becauseH3027 of our iniquitiesH5771.
8 But now, Yahweh, you are our Father. We are the clay and you our potter. We all are the work of your hand.
KJVBut now, O LORDH3068, thou art our fatherH1; we are the clayH2563, and thou our potterH3335(H8802); and we all are the workH4639 of thy handH3027.
9 Don’t be furious, Yahweh. Don’t remember iniquity forever. Look and see, we beg you, we are all your people.
KJVBe not wrothH7107(H8799) very soreH3966, O LORDH3068, neither rememberH2142(H8799) iniquityH5771 for everH5703: behold, seeH5027(H8685), we beseech thee, we are all thy peopleH5971.
10 Your holy cities have become a wilderness. Zion has become a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.
KJVThy holyH6944 citiesH5892 are a wildernessH4057, ZionH6726 is a wildernessH4057, JerusalemH3389 a desolationH8077.
11 Our holy and our beautiful house where our fathers praised you is burned with fire. All our pleasant places are laid waste.
KJVOur holyH6944 and our beautifulH8597 houseH1004, where our fathersH1 praisedH1984(H8765) thee, is burned upH8316 with fireH784: and all our pleasant thingsH4261 are laid wasteH2723.
12 Will you hold yourself back for these things, Yahweh? Will you keep silent and punish us very severely?
KJVWilt thou refrainH662(H8691) thyself for these things, O LORDH3068? wilt thou hold thy peaceH2814(H8799), and afflictH6031(H8762) us very soreH3966?
