Jeremiah 14

WEB·Jeremiah 14
1This is Yahweh’s word that came to Jeremiah concerning the drought:
KJVThe wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 that came to JeremiahH3414 concerningH1697 the dearthH1226.
2 “Judah mourns, and its gates languish. They sit in black on the ground. The cry of Jerusalem goes up.
KJVJudahH3063 mournethH56(H8804), and the gatesH8179 thereof languishH535(H8797); they are blackH6937(H8804) unto the groundH776; and the cryH6682 of JerusalemH3389 is gone upH5927(H8804).
3 Their nobles send their little ones to the waters. They come to the cisterns, and find no water. They return with their vessels empty. They are disappointed and confounded, and cover their heads.
KJVAnd their noblesH117 have sentH7971(H8804) their little onesH6810 to the watersH4325: they cameH935(H8804) to the pitsH1356(H8676)H1360, and foundH4672(H8804) no waterH4325; they returnedH7725(H8804) with their vesselsH3627 emptyH7387; they were ashamedH954(H8804) and confoundedH3637(H8717), and coveredH2645(H8804) their headsH7218.
4 Because of the ground which is cracked, because no rain has been in the land, the plowmen are disappointed. They cover their heads.
KJVBecause the groundH127 is chaptH2865(H8804), for there was no rainH1653 in the earthH776, the plowmenH406 were ashamedH954(H8804), they coveredH2645(H8804) their headsH7218.
5 Yes, the doe in the field also calves and forsakes her young, because there is no grass.
KJVYea, the hindH365 also calvedH3205(H8804) in the fieldH7704, and forsookH5800(H8800) it, because there was no grassH1877.
6 The wild donkeys stand on the bare heights. They pant for air like jackals. Their eyes fail, because there is no vegetation.
KJVAnd the wild assesH6501 did standH5975(H8804) in the high placesH8205, they snuffed upH7602(H8804) the windH7307 like dragonsH8577; their eyesH5869 did failH3615(H8804), because there was no grassH6212.
7 Though our iniquities testify against us, work for your name’s sake, Yahweh; for our rebellions are many. We have sinned against you.
KJVO LORDH3068, though our iniquitiesH5771 testifyH6030(H8804) against us, doH6213(H8798) thou it for thy name'sH8034 sake: for our backslidingsH4878 are manyH7231(H8804); we have sinnedH2398(H8804) against thee.
8 You hope of Israel, its Savior in the time of trouble, why should you be as a foreigner in the land, and as a wayfaring man who turns aside to stay for a night?
KJVO the hopeH4723 of IsraelH3478, the saviourH3467(H8688) thereof in timeH6256 of troubleH6869, why shouldest thou be as a strangerH1616 in the landH776, and as a wayfaring manH732(H8802) that turneth asideH5186(H8804) to tarry for a nightH3885(H8800)?
9 Why should you be like a scared man, as a mighty man who can’t save? Yet you, Yahweh, are in the middle of us, and we are called by your name. Don’t leave us.
KJVWhy shouldest thou be as a manH376 astoniedH1724(H8737), as a mighty manH1368 that cannotH3201(H8799) saveH3467(H8687)? yet thou, O LORDH3068, art in the midstH7130 of us, and we are calledH7121(H8738) by thy nameH8034; leaveH3240(H8686) us not.
10 Yahweh says to this people: “Even so they have loved to wander. They have not restrained their feet. Therefore Yahweh does not accept them. Now he will remember their iniquity, and punish them for their sins.”
KJVThus saithH559(H8804) the LORDH3068 unto this peopleH5971, Thus have they lovedH157(H8804) to wanderH5128(H8800), they have not refrainedH2820(H8804) their feetH7272, therefore the LORDH3068 doth not acceptH7521(H8804) them; he will now rememberH2142(H8799) their iniquityH5771, and visitH6485(H8799) their sinsH2403.
11 Yahweh said to me, “Don’t pray for this people for their good.
KJVThen saidH559(H8799) the LORDH3068 unto me, PrayH6419(H8691) not for this peopleH5971 for their goodH2896.
12 When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and meal offering, I will not accept them; but I will consume them by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence.”
KJVWhen they fastH6684(H8799), I will not hearH8085(H8802) their cryH7440; and when they offerH5927(H8686) burnt offeringH5930 and an oblationH4503, I will not acceptH7521(H8802) them: but I will consumeH3615(H8764) them by the swordH2719, and by the famineH7458, and by the pestilenceH1698.
13 Then I said, “Ah, Lord Yahweh! Behold, the prophets tell them, ‘You will not see the sword, neither will you have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place.’”
KJVThen saidH559(H8799) I, AhH162, LordH136 GODH3069! behold, the prophetsH5030 sayH559(H8802) unto them, Ye shall not seeH7200(H8799) the swordH2719, neither shall ye have famineH7458; but I will giveH5414(H8799) you assuredH571 peaceH7965 in this placeH4725.
14 Then Yahweh said to me, “The prophets prophesy lies in my name. I didn’t send them. I didn’t command them. I didn’t speak to them. They prophesy to you a lying vision, divination, and a thing of nothing, and the deceit of their own heart.
KJVThen the LORDH3068 saidH559(H8799) unto me, The prophetsH5030 prophesyH5012(H8737) liesH8267 in my nameH8034: I sentH7971(H8804) them not, neither have I commandedH6680(H8765) them, neither spakeH1696(H8765) unto them: they prophesyH5012(H8693) unto you a falseH8267 visionH2377 and divinationH7081, and a thing of noughtH457(H8675)H434, and the deceitH8649 of their heartH3820.
15 Therefore Yahweh says concerning the prophets who prophesy in my name, but I didn’t send them, yet they say, ‘Sword and famine will not be in this land.’ Those prophets will be consumed by sword and famine.
KJVTherefore thus saithH559(H8804) the LORDH3068 concerning the prophetsH5030 that prophesyH5012(H8737) in my nameH8034, and I sentH7971(H8804) them not, yet they sayH559(H8802), SwordH2719 and famineH7458 shall not be in this landH776; By swordH2719 and famineH7458 shall those prophetsH5030 be consumedH8552(H8735).
16 The people to whom they prophesy will be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword. They will have no one to bury them—them, their wives, their sons, or their daughters, for I will pour their wickedness on them.
KJVAnd the peopleH5971 to whom they prophesyH5012(H8737) shall be cast outH7993(H8716) in the streetsH2351 of JerusalemH3389 becauseH6440 of the famineH7458 and the swordH2719; and they shall have none to buryH6912(H8764) themH1992, them, their wivesH802, nor their sonsH1121, nor their daughtersH1323: for I will pourH8210(H8804) their wickednessH7451 upon them.
17 “You shall say this word to them: “‘Let my eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease; for the virgin daughter of my people is broken with a great breach, with a very grievous wound.
KJVTherefore thou shalt sayH559(H8804) this wordH1697 unto them; Let mine eyesH5869 run downH3381(H8799) with tearsH1832 nightH3915 and dayH3119, and let them not ceaseH1820(H8799): for the virginH1330 daughterH1323 of my peopleH5971 is brokenH7665(H8738) with a greatH1419 breachH7667, with a veryH3966 grievousH2470(H8737) blowH4347.
18 If I go out into the field, then behold, the slain with the sword! If I enter into the city, then behold, those who are sick with famine! For both the prophet and the priest go about in the land, and have no knowledge.’”
KJVIf I go forthH3318(H8804) into the fieldH7704, then behold the slainH2491 with the swordH2719! and if I enterH935(H8804) into the cityH5892, then behold them that are sickH8463 with famineH7458! yea, both the prophetH5030 and the priestH3548 go aboutH5503(H8804) into a landH776 that they knowH3045(H8804) not.
19 Have you utterly rejected Judah? Has your soul loathed Zion? Why have you struck us, and there is no healing for us? We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of healing, and behold, dismay!
KJVHast thou utterlyH3988(H8800) rejectedH3988(H8804) JudahH3063? hath thy soulH5315 lothedH1602(H8804) ZionH6726? why hast thou smittenH5221(H8689) us, and there is no healingH4832 for us? we lookedH6960(H8763) for peaceH7965, and there is no goodH2896; and for the timeH6256 of healingH4832, and behold troubleH1205!
20 We acknowledge, Yahweh, our wickedness, and the iniquity of our fathers; for we have sinned against you.
KJVWe acknowledgeH3045(H8804), O LORDH3068, our wickednessH7562, and the iniquityH5771 of our fathersH1: for we have sinnedH2398(H8804) against thee.
21 Do not abhor us, for your name’s sake. Do not disgrace the throne of your glory. Remember, and don’t break your covenant with us.
KJVDo not abhorH5006(H8799) us, for thy name'sH8034 sake, do not disgraceH5034(H8762) the throneH3678 of thy gloryH3519: rememberH2142(H8798), breakH6565(H8686) not thy covenantH1285 with us.
22 Are there any among the vanities of the nations that can cause rain? Or can the sky give showers? Aren’t you he, Yahweh our God? Therefore we will wait for you; for you have made all these things.
KJVAre thereH3426 any among the vanitiesH1892 of the GentilesH1471 that can cause rainH1652(H8688)? or can the heavensH8064 giveH5414(H8799) showersH7241? art not thou he, O LORDH3068 our GodH430? therefore we will waitH6960(H8762) upon thee: for thou hast madeH6213(H8804) all these things.
