¹Then Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,

² “You shall not take a wife, neither shall you have sons or daughters, in this place.”

KJVThou shalt not take^H3947^(H8799) thee a wife^H802, neither shalt thou have sons^H1121 or daughters^H1323 in this place^H4725.

³ For Yahweh says concerning the sons and concerning the daughters who are born in this place, and concerning their mothers who bore them, and concerning their fathers who became their father in this land:

KJVFor thus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068 concerning the sons^H1121 and concerning the daughters^H1323 that are born^H3205^(H8688) in this place^H4725, and concerning their mothers^H517 that bare^H3205^(H8802) them, and concerning their fathers^H1 that begat^H3209 them in this land^H776;

⁴ “They will die grievous deaths. They will not be lamented, neither will they be buried. They will be as dung on the surface of the ground. They will be consumed by the sword and by famine. Their dead bodies will be food for the birds of the sky and for the animals of the earth.”

⁵ For Yahweh says, “Don’t enter into the house of mourning. Don’t go to lament. Don’t bemoan them, for I have taken away my peace from this people,” says Yahweh, “even loving kindness and tender mercies.

⁶ Both great and small will die in this land. They will not be buried. Men won’t lament for them, cut themselves, or make themselves bald for them.

⁷ Men won’t break bread for them in mourning, to comfort them for the dead. Men won’t give them the cup of consolation to drink for their father or for their mother.

⁸ “You shall not go into the house of feasting to sit with them, to eat and to drink.”

⁹ For Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel says: “Behold, I will cause to cease out of this place, before your eyes and in your days, the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride.

KJVFor thus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635, the God^H430 of Israel^H3478; Behold, I will cause to cease^H7673^(H8688) out of this place^H4725 in your eyes^H5869, and in your days^H3117, the voice^H6963 of mirth^H8342, and the voice^H6963 of gladness^H8057, the voice^H6963 of the bridegroom^H2860, and the voice^H6963 of the bride^H3618.

¹⁰ It will happen, when you tell this people all these words, and they ask you, ‘Why has Yahweh pronounced all this great evil against us?’ or ‘What is our iniquity?’ or ‘What is our sin that we have committed against Yahweh our God?’

KJVAnd it shall come to pass, when thou shalt shew^H5046^(H8686) this people^H5971 all these words^H1697, and they shall say^H559^(H8804) unto thee, Wherefore hath the LORD^H3068 pronounced^H1696^(H8765) all this great^H1419 evil^H7451 against us? or what is our iniquity^H5771? or what is our sin^H2403 that we have committed^H2398^(H8804) against the LORD^H3068 our God^H430?

¹¹ then you shall tell them, ‘Because your fathers have forsaken me,’ says Yahweh, ‘and have walked after other gods, have served them, have worshiped them, have forsaken me, and have not kept my law.

¹² You have done evil more than your fathers, for behold, you each walk after the stubbornness of his evil heart, so that you don’t listen to me.

KJVAnd ye have done^H6213^(H8800) worse^H7489^(H8689) than your fathers^H1; for, behold^H2009, ye walk^H1980^(H8802) every one^H376 after^H310 the imagination^H8307 of his evil^H7451 heart^H3820, that they may not hearken^H8085^(H8800) unto me:

¹³ Therefore I will cast you out of this land into the land that you have not known, neither you nor your fathers. There you will serve other gods day and night, for I will show you no favor.’

¹⁴ “Therefore behold, the days come,” says Yahweh, “that it will no more be said, ‘As Yahweh lives, who brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;’

¹⁵ but, ‘As Yahweh lives, who brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the countries where he had driven them.’ I will bring them again into their land that I gave to their fathers.

¹⁶ “Behold, I will send for many fishermen,” says Yahweh, “and they will fish them up. Afterward I will send for many hunters, and they will hunt them from every mountain, from every hill, and out of the clefts of the rocks.

¹⁷ For my eyes are on all their ways. They are not hidden from my face. Their iniquity isn’t concealed from my eyes.

¹⁸ First I will recompense their iniquity and their sin double, because they have polluted my land with the carcasses of their detestable things, and have filled my inheritance with their abominations.”

¹⁹ Yahweh, my strength, my stronghold, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the nations will come to you from the ends of the earth, and will say, “Our fathers have inherited nothing but lies, vanity and things in which there is no profit.

KJVO LORD^H3068, my strength^H5797, and my fortress^H4581, and my refuge^H4498 in the day^H3117 of affliction^H6869, the Gentiles^H1471 shall come^H935^(H8799) unto thee from the ends^H657 of the earth^H776, and shall say^H559^(H8799), Surely our fathers^H1 have inherited^H5157^(H8804) lies^H8267, vanity^H1892, and things wherein there is no profit^H3276^(H8688).

²⁰ Should a man make to himself gods which yet are no gods?”

KJVShall a man^H120 make^H6213^(H8799) gods^H430 unto himself, and they are no gods^H430?

²¹ “Therefore behold, I will cause them to know, this once I will cause them to know my hand and my might. Then they will know that my name is Yahweh.”

KJVTherefore, behold, I will this once^H6471 cause them to know^H3045^(H8688), I will cause them to know^H3045^(H8686) mine hand^H3027 and my might^H1369; and they shall know^H3045^(H8804) that my name^H8034 is The LORD^H3068.

¹Then Yahweh said to me, “Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my mind would not turn toward this people. Cast them out of my sight, and let them go out!

² It will happen when they ask you, ‘Where shall we go out?’ then you shall tell them, ‘Yahweh says: “Such as are for death, to death; such as are for the sword, to the sword; such as are for the famine, to the famine; and such as are for captivity, to captivity.”’

³ “I will appoint over them four kinds,” says Yahweh: “the sword to kill, the dogs to tear, the birds of the sky, and the animals of the earth, to devour and to destroy.

⁴ I will cause them to be tossed back and forth among all the kingdoms of the earth, because of Manasseh, the son of Hezekiah, king of Judah, for that which he did in Jerusalem.

⁵ For who will have pity on you, Jerusalem? Who will mourn you? Who will come to ask of your welfare?

⁶ You have rejected me,” says Yahweh. “You have gone backward. Therefore I have stretched out my hand against you and destroyed you. I am weary of showing compassion.

⁷ I have winnowed them with a fan in the gates of the land. I have bereaved them of children. I have destroyed my people. They didn’t return from their ways.

⁸ Their widows are increased more than the sand of the seas. I have brought on them against the mother of the young men a destroyer at noonday. I have caused anguish and terrors to fall on her suddenly.

¹⁰ Woe is me, my mother, that you have borne me, a man of strife, and a man of contention to the whole earth! I have not lent, neither have men lent to me; yet every one of them curses me.

¹¹ Yahweh said, “Most certainly I will strengthen you for good. Most certainly I will cause the enemy to make supplication to you in the time of evil and in the time of affliction.

¹² Can one break iron, even iron from the north, and bronze?

¹³ I will give your substance and your treasures for a plunder without price, and that for all your sins, even in all your borders.

KJVThy substance^H2428 and thy treasures^H214 will I give^H5414^(H8799) to the spoil^H957 without price^H4242, and that for all thy sins^H2403, even in all thy borders^H1366.

¹⁴ I will make them to pass with your enemies into a land which you don’t know; for a fire is kindled in my anger, which will burn on you.”

¹⁵ Yahweh, you know. Remember me, visit me, and avenge me of my persecutors. You are patient, so don’t take me away. Know that for your sake I have suffered reproach.

¹⁶ Your words were found, and I ate them. Your words were to me a joy and the rejoicing of my heart, for I am called by your name, Yahweh, God of Armies.

¹⁷ I didn’t sit in the assembly of those who make merry and rejoice. I sat alone because of your hand, for you have filled me with indignation.

¹⁸ Why is my pain perpetual, and my wound incurable, which refuses to be healed? Will you indeed be to me as a deceitful brook, like waters that fail?

¹⁹ Therefore Yahweh says, “If you return, then I will bring you again, that you may stand before me; and if you take out the precious from the vile, you will be as my mouth. They will return to you, but you will not return to them.

²⁰ I will make you to this people a fortified bronze wall. They will fight against you, but they will not prevail against you; for I am with you to save you and to deliver you,” says Yahweh.

²¹ “I will deliver you out of the hand of the wicked, and I will redeem you out of the hand of the terrible.”
