¹Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,

² “Son of man, set your face toward Jerusalem, and preach toward the sanctuaries, and prophesy against the land of Israel.

KJVSon^H1121 of man^H120, set^H7760^(H8798) thy face^H6440 toward Jerusalem^H3389, and drop^H5197^(H8685) thy word toward the holy places^H4720, and prophesy^H5012^(H8734) against the land^H127 of Israel^H3478,

³ Tell the land of Israel, ‘Yahweh says: “Behold, I am against you, and will draw my sword out of its sheath, and will cut off from you the righteous and the wicked.

KJVAnd say^H559^(H8804) to the land^H127 of Israel^H3478, Thus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068; Behold, I am against thee, and will draw forth^H3318^(H8689) my sword^H2719 out of his sheath^H8593, and will cut off^H3772^(H8689) from thee the righteous^H6662 and the wicked^H7563.

⁴ Seeing then that I will cut off from you the righteous and the wicked, therefore my sword will go out of its sheath against all flesh from the south to the north.

KJVSeeing^H3282 then that I will cut off^H3772^(H8689) from thee the righteous^H6662 and the wicked^H7563, therefore shall my sword^H2719 go forth^H3318^(H8799) out of his sheath^H8593 against all flesh^H1320 from the south^H5045 to the north^H6828:

⁵ All flesh will know that I, Yahweh, have drawn my sword out of its sheath. It will not return any more.”’

⁶ “Therefore sigh, you son of man. You shall sigh before their eyes with a broken heart and with bitterness.

KJVSigh^H584^(H8734) therefore, thou son^H1121 of man^H120, with the breaking^H7670 of thy loins^H4975; and with bitterness^H4814 sigh^H584^(H8735) before their eyes^H5869.

⁷ It shall be, when they ask you, ‘Why do you sigh?’ that you shall say, ‘Because of the news, for it comes! Every heart will melt, all hands will be feeble, every spirit will faint, and all knees will be weak as water. Behold, it comes, and it shall be done, says the Lord Yahweh.’”

⁸ Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,

⁹ “Son of man, prophesy, and say, ‘Yahweh says: “A sword! A sword! It is sharpened, and also polished.

KJVSon^H1121 of man^H120, prophesy^H5012^(H8734), and say^H559^(H8804), Thus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068; Say^H559^(H8798), A sword^H2719, a sword^H2719 is sharpened^H2300^(H8717), and also furbished^H4803^(H8803):

¹⁰ It is sharpened that it may make a slaughter. It is polished that it may be as lightning. Should we then make mirth? The rod of my son condemns every tree.

KJVIt is sharpened^H2300^(H8717) to make a sore^H2874 slaughter^H2873^(H8800); it is furbished^H4178^(H8794) that it may glitter^H1300: should^H176 we then make mirth^H7797^(H8799)? it contemneth^H3988^(H8802) the rod^H7626 of my son^H1121, as every tree^H6086.

¹¹ It is given to be polished, that it may be handled. The sword is sharpened. Yes, it is polished to give it into the hand of the killer.”’

KJVAnd he hath given^H5414^(H8799) it to be furbished^H4803^(H8800), that it may be handled^H3709^H8610^(H8800): this sword^H2719 is sharpened^H2300^(H8717), and it is furbished^H4178^(H8794), to give^H5414^(H8800) it into the hand^H3027 of the slayer^H2026^(H8802).

¹² Cry and wail, son of man; for it is on my people. It is on all the princes of Israel. They are delivered over to the sword with my people. Therefore beat your thigh.

KJVCry^H2199^(H8798) and howl^H3213^(H8685), son^H1121 of man^H120: for it shall be upon my people^H5971, it shall be upon all the princes^H5387 of Israel^H3478: terrors^H4048^(H8803) by reason of^H413 the sword^H2719 shall be upon my people^H5971: smite^H5606^(H8798) therefore upon thy thigh^H3409.

¹³ “For there is a trial. What if even the rod that condemns will be no more?” says the Lord Yahweh.

KJVBecause it is a trial^H974^(H8795), and what if the sword contemn^H3988^(H8802) even the rod^H7626? it shall be no more, saith^H5002^(H8803) the Lord^H136 GOD^H3069.

¹⁴ “You therefore, son of man, prophesy, and strike your hands together. Let the sword be doubled the third time, the sword of the fatally wounded. It is the sword of the great one who is fatally wounded, which enters into their rooms.

KJVThou therefore, son^H1121 of man^H120, prophesy^H5012^(H8734), and smite^H5221 thine hands^H3709^H3709 together^H5221^(H8685), and let the sword^H2719 be doubled^H3717^(H8735) the third^H7992 time, the sword^H2719 of the slain^H2491: it is the sword^H2719 of the great^H1419 men that are slain^H2491, which entereth into their privy chambers^H2314^(H8802).

¹⁵ I have set the threatening sword against all their gates, that their heart may melt, and their stumblings be multiplied. Ah! It is made as lightning. It is pointed for slaughter.

KJVI have set^H5414^(H8804) the point^H19 of the sword^H2719 against all their gates^H8179, that their heart^H3820 may faint^H4127^(H8800), and their ruins^H4383 be multiplied^H7235^(H8687): ah^H253! it is made^H6213^(H8803) bright^H1300, it is wrapped up^H4593 for the slaughter^H2874.

¹⁶ Gather yourselves together. Go to the right. Set yourselves in array. Go to the left, wherever your face is set.

KJVGo thee one way or other^H258^(H8690), either on^H7760^(H8685) the right hand^H3231^(H8685), or on the left^H8041^(H8685), whithersoever^H575 thy face^H6440 is set^H3259^(H8716).

¹⁷ I will also strike my hands together, and I will cause my wrath to rest. I, Yahweh, have spoken it.”

KJVI will also smite^H5221^(H8686) mine hands^H3709 together^H3709, and I will cause my fury^H2534 to rest^H5117^(H8689): I the LORD^H3068 have said^H1696^(H8765) it.

¹⁸ Yahweh’s word came to me again, saying,

KJVThe word^H1697 of the LORD^H3068 came unto me again, saying^H559^(H8800),

¹⁹ “Also, you son of man, appoint two ways, that the sword of the king of Babylon may come. They both will come out of one land, and mark out a place. Mark it out at the head of the way to the city.

KJVAlso, thou son^H1121 of man^H120, appoint^H7760^(H8798) thee two^H8147 ways^H1870, that the sword^H2719 of the king^H4428 of Babylon^H894 may come^H935^(H8800): both twain^H8147 shall come forth^H3318^(H8799) out of one^H259 land^H776: and choose^H1254^(H8761) thou a place^H3027, choose^H1254^(H8761) it at the head^H7218 of the way^H1870 to the city^H5892.

²⁰ You shall appoint a way for the sword to come to Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and to Judah in Jerusalem the fortified.

KJVAppoint^H7760^(H8799) a way^H1870, that the sword^H2719 may come^H935^(H8800) to Rabbath^H7237 of the Ammonites^H1121^H5983, and to Judah^H3063 in Jerusalem^H3389 the defenced^H1219^(H8803).

²¹ For the king of Babylon stood at the parting of the way, at the head of the two ways, to use divination. He shook the arrows back and forth. He consulted the teraphim. He looked in the liver.

²² In his right hand was the lot for Jerusalem, to set battering rams, to open the mouth in the slaughter, to lift up the voice with shouting, to set battering rams against the gates, to cast up mounds, and to build forts.

²³ It will be to them as a false divination in their sight, who have sworn oaths to them; but he brings iniquity to memory, that they may be taken.

²⁴ “Therefore the Lord Yahweh says: ‘Because you have caused your iniquity to be remembered, in that your transgressions are uncovered, so that in all your doings your sins appear; because you have come to memory, you will be taken with the hand.

KJVTherefore thus saith^H559^(H8804) the Lord^H136 GOD^H3069; Because ye have made your iniquity^H5771 to be remembered^H2142^(H8687), in that your transgressions^H6588 are discovered^H1540^(H8736), so that in all your doings^H5949 your sins^H2403 do appear^H7200^(H8736); because, I say, that ye are come to remembrance^H2142^(H8736), ye shall be taken^H8610^(H8735) with the hand^H3709.

²⁵ “‘You, deadly wounded wicked one, the prince of Israel, whose day has come, in the time of the iniquity of the end,

KJVAnd thou, profane^H2491 wicked^H7563 prince^H5387 of Israel^H3478, whose day^H3117 is come^H935^(H8804), when^H6256 iniquity^H5771 shall have an end^H7093,

²⁶ the Lord Yahweh says: “Remove the turban, and take off the crown. This will not be as it was. Exalt that which is low, and humble that which is high.

KJVThus saith^H559^(H8804) the Lord^H136 GOD^H3069; Remove^H5493^(H8685) the diadem^H4701, and take off^H7311^(H8685) the crown^H5850: this shall not be the same^H2063: exalt^H1361^(H8687) him that is low^H8217, and abase^H8213^(H8687) him that is high^H1364.

²⁷ I will overturn, overturn, overturn it. This also will be no more, until he comes whose right it is; and I will give it.”’

KJVI will overturn^H5754, overturn^H5754, overturn^H5754, it: and it shall be^H7760^(H8799) no more, until he come^H935^(H8800) whose right^H4941 it is; and I will give^H5414^(H8804) it him.

²⁸ “You, son of man, prophesy and say, ‘The Lord Yahweh says this concerning the children of Ammon, and concerning their reproach: “A sword! A sword is drawn! It is polished for the slaughter, to cause it to devour, that it may be as lightning;

KJVAnd thou, son^H1121 of man^H120, prophesy^H5012^(H8734) and say^H559^(H8804), Thus saith^H559^(H8804) the Lord^H136 GOD^H3069 concerning the Ammonites^H1121^H5983, and concerning their reproach^H2781; even say^H559^(H8804) thou, The sword^H2719, the sword^H2719 is drawn^H6605^(H8803): for the slaughter^H2874 it is furbished^H4803^(H8803), to consume^H398^(H8687) because of the glittering^H1300:

²⁹ while they see for you false visions, while they divine lies to you, to lay you on the necks of the wicked who are deadly wounded, whose day has come in the time of the iniquity of the end.

KJVWhiles they see^H2372^(H8800) vanity^H7723 unto thee, whiles they divine^H7080^(H8800) a lie^H3577 unto thee, to bring^H5414^(H8800) thee upon the necks^H6677 of them that are slain^H2491, of the wicked^H7563, whose day^H3117 is come^H935^(H8804), when^H6256 their iniquity^H5771 shall have an end^H7093.

³⁰ Cause it to return into its sheath. In the place where you were created, in the land of your birth, I will judge you.

KJVShall I cause it to return^H7725^(H8685) into his sheath^H8593? I will judge^H8199^(H8799) thee in the place^H4725 where thou wast created^H1254^(H8738), in the land^H776 of thy nativity^H4351.

³¹ I will pour out my indignation on you. I will blow on you with the fire of my wrath. I will deliver you into the hand of brutish men, skillful to destroy.

KJVAnd I will pour out^H8210^(H8804) mine indignation^H2195 upon thee, I will blow^H6315^(H8686) against thee in the fire^H784 of my wrath^H5678, and deliver^H5414^(H8804) thee into the hand^H3027 of brutish^H1197^(H8802) men^H582, and skilful^H2796 to destroy^H4889.

³² You will be for fuel to the fire. Your blood will be in the middle of the land. You will be remembered no more; for I, Yahweh, have spoken it.”’”

¹In the seventh year, in the fifth month, the tenth day of the month, some of the elders of Israel came to inquire of Yahweh, and sat before me.

KJVAnd it came to pass in the seventh^H7637 year^H8141, in the fifth^H2549 month, the tenth^H6218 day of the month^H2320, that certain^H582 of the elders^H2205 of Israel^H3478 came^H935^(H8804) to enquire^H1875^(H8800) of the LORD^H3068, and sat^H3427^(H8799) before^H6440 me.

² Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,

KJVThen came the word^H1697 of the LORD^H3068 unto me, saying^H559^(H8800),

³ “Son of man, speak to the elders of Israel, and tell them, ‘The Lord Yahweh says: “Is it to inquire of me that you have come? As I live,” says the Lord Yahweh, “I will not be inquired of by you.”’

⁴ “Will you judge them, son of man? Will you judge them? Cause them to know the abominations of their fathers.

⁵ Tell them, ‘The Lord Yahweh says: “In the day when I chose Israel, and swore to the offspring of the house of Jacob, and made myself known to them in the land of Egypt, when I swore to them, saying, ‘I am Yahweh your God;’

KJVAnd say^H559^(H8804) unto them, Thus saith^H559^(H8804) the Lord^H136 GOD^H3069; In the day^H3117 when I chose^H977^(H8800) Israel^H3478, and lifted up^H5375^(H8799) mine hand^H3027 unto the seed^H2233 of the house^H1004 of Jacob^H3290, and made myself known^H3045^(H8735) unto them in the land^H776 of Egypt^H4714, when I lifted^H5375^(H8799) up mine hand^H3027 unto them, saying^H559^(H8800), I am the LORD^H3068 your God^H430;

⁶ in that day I swore to them to bring them out of the land of Egypt into a land that I had searched out for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands.

⁷ I said to them, ‘Each of you throw away the abominations of his eyes. Don’t defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt. I am Yahweh your God.’

⁸ “‘“But they rebelled against me and wouldn’t listen to me. They didn’t all throw away the abominations of their eyes. They also didn’t forsake the idols of Egypt. Then I said I would pour out my wrath on them, to accomplish my anger against them in the middle of the land of Egypt.

⁹ But I worked for my name’s sake, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations among which they were, in whose sight I made myself known to them in bringing them out of the land of Egypt.

¹⁰ So I caused them to go out of the land of Egypt and brought them into the wilderness.

¹¹ I gave them my statutes and showed them my ordinances, which if a man does, he will live in them.

KJVAnd I gave^H5414^(H8799) them my statutes^H2708, and shewed^H3045^(H8689) them my judgments^H4941, which if a man^H120 do^H6213^(H8799), he shall even live^H2425^(H8804) in them.

¹² Moreover also I gave them my Sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am Yahweh who sanctifies them.

¹³ “‘“But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness. They didn’t walk in my statutes and they rejected my ordinances, which if a man keeps, he shall live in them. They greatly profaned my Sabbaths. Then I said I would pour out my wrath on them in the wilderness, to consume them.

¹⁶ because they rejected my ordinances, and didn’t walk in my statutes, and profaned my Sabbaths; for their heart went after their idols.

KJVBecause they despised^H3988^(H8804) my judgments^H4941, and walked^H1980^(H8804) not in my statutes^H2708, but polluted^H2490^(H8765) my sabbaths^H7676: for their heart^H3820 went^H1980^(H8802) after^H310 their idols^H1544.

¹⁷ Nevertheless my eye spared them, and I didn’t destroy them. I didn’t make a full end of them in the wilderness.

KJVNevertheless mine eye^H5869 spared^H2347^(H8799) them from destroying^H7843^(H8763) them, neither did I make^H6213^(H8804) an end^H3617 of them in the wilderness^H4057.

¹⁸ I said to their children in the wilderness, ‘Don’t walk in the statutes of your fathers. Don’t observe their ordinances or defile yourselves with their idols.

KJVBut I said^H559^(H8799) unto their children^H1121 in the wilderness^H4057, Walk^H3212^(H8799) ye not in the statutes^H2706 of your fathers^H1, neither observe^H8104^(H8799) their judgments^H4941, nor defile^H2930^(H8691) yourselves with their idols^H1544:

¹⁹ I am Yahweh your God. Walk in my statutes, keep my ordinances, and do them.

²⁰ Make my Sabbaths holy. They shall be a sign between me and you, that you may know that I am Yahweh your God.’

²¹ “‘“But the children rebelled against me. They didn’t walk in my statutes, and didn’t keep my ordinances to do them, which if a man does, he shall live in them. They profaned my Sabbaths. Then I said I would pour out my wrath on them, to accomplish my anger against them in the wilderness.

²² Nevertheless I withdrew my hand and worked for my name’s sake, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I brought them out.

²³ Moreover I swore to them in the wilderness, that I would scatter them among the nations and disperse them through the countries,

KJVI lifted up^H5375^(H8804) mine hand^H3027 unto them also in the wilderness^H4057, that I would scatter^H6327^(H8687) them among the heathen^H1471, and disperse^H2219^(H8763) them through the countries^H776;

²⁴ because they had not executed my ordinances, but had rejected my statutes, and had profaned my Sabbaths, and their eyes were after their fathers’ idols.

KJVBecause they had not executed^H6213^(H8804) my judgments^H4941, but had despised^H3988^(H8804) my statutes^H2708, and had polluted^H2490^(H8765) my sabbaths^H7676, and their eyes^H5869 were after^H310 their fathers^H1' idols^H1544.
