¹Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,

KJVAnd the word^H1697 of the LORD^H3068 came unto me, saying^H559^(H8800),

² “Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel. Prophesy, and tell them, even the shepherds, ‘The Lord Yahweh says: “Woe to the shepherds of Israel who feed themselves! Shouldn’t the shepherds feed the sheep?

KJVSon^H1121 of man^H120, prophesy^H5012^(H8734) against the shepherds^H7462^(H8802) of Israel^H3478, prophesy^H5012^(H8734), and say^H559^(H8804) unto them, Thus saith^H559^(H8804) the Lord^H136 GOD^H3069 unto the shepherds^H7462^(H8802); Woe^H1945 be to the shepherds^H7462^(H8802) of Israel^H3478 that do feed^H7462^(H8802) themselves! should not the shepherds^H7462^(H8802) feed^H7462^(H8799) the flocks^H6629?

³ You eat the fat. You clothe yourself with the wool. You kill the fatlings, but you don’t feed the sheep.

KJVYe eat^H398^(H8799) the fat^H2459, and ye clothe^H3847^(H8799) you with the wool^H6785, ye kill^H2076^(H8799) them that are fed^H1277: but ye feed^H7462^(H8799) not the flock^H6629.

⁴ You haven’t strengthened the diseased. You haven’t healed that which was sick. You haven’t bound up that which was broken. You haven’t brought back that which was driven away. You haven’t sought that which was lost, but you have ruled over them with force and with rigor.

KJVThe diseased^H2470^(H8737) have ye not strengthened^H2388^(H8765), neither have ye healed^H7495^(H8765) that which was sick^H2470^(H8802), neither have ye bound up^H2280^(H8804) that which was broken^H7665^(H8737), neither have ye brought again^H7725^(H8689) that which was driven away^H5080^(H8737), neither have ye sought^H1245^(H8765) that which was lost^H6^(H8802); but with force^H2394 and with cruelty^H6531 have ye ruled^H7287^(H8804) them.

⁵ They were scattered, because there was no shepherd. They became food to all the animals of the field, and were scattered.

KJVAnd they were scattered^H6327^(H8799), because there is no shepherd^H7462^(H8802): and they became meat^H402 to all the beasts^H2416 of the field^H7704, when they were scattered^H6327^(H8799).

⁶ My sheep wandered through all the mountains and on every high hill. Yes, my sheep were scattered on all the surface of the earth. There was no one who searched or sought.”

KJVMy sheep^H6629 wandered^H7686^(H8799) through all the mountains^H2022, and upon every high^H7311^(H8802) hill^H1389: yea, my flock^H6629 was scattered^H6327^(H8738) upon all the face^H6440 of the earth^H776, and none did search^H1875^(H8802) or seek^H1245^(H8764) after them.

⁷ “‘Therefore, you shepherds, hear Yahweh’s word:

KJVTherefore, ye shepherds^H7462^(H8802), hear^H8085^(H8798) the word^H1697 of the LORD^H3068;

⁸ “As I live,” says the Lord Yahweh, “surely because my sheep became a prey, and my sheep became food to all the animals of the field, because there was no shepherd, and my shepherds didn’t search for my sheep, but the shepherds fed themselves, and didn’t feed my sheep,

KJVAs I live^H2416, saith^H5002^(H8803) the Lord^H136 GOD^H3069, surely because my flock^H6629 became a prey^H957, and my flock^H6629 became meat^H402 to every beast^H2416 of the field^H7704, because there was no shepherd^H7462^(H8802), neither did my shepherds^H7462^(H8802) search^H1875^(H8804) for my flock^H6629, but the shepherds^H7462^(H8802) fed^H7462^(H8799) themselves, and fed^H7462^(H8804) not my flock^H6629;

⁹ therefore, you shepherds, hear Yahweh’s word!”

KJVTherefore, O ye shepherds^H7462^(H8802), hear^H8085^(H8798) the word^H1697 of the LORD^H3068;

¹⁰ The Lord Yahweh says: “Behold, I am against the shepherds. I will require my sheep at their hand, and cause them to cease from feeding the sheep. The shepherds won’t feed themselves any more. I will deliver my sheep from their mouth, that they may not be food for them.”

KJVThus saith^H559^(H8804) the Lord^H136 GOD^H3069; Behold, I am against the shepherds^H7462^(H8802); and I will require^H1875^(H8804) my flock^H6629 at their hand^H3027, and cause them to cease^H7673^(H8689) from feeding^H7462^(H8800) the flock^H6629; neither shall the shepherds^H7462^(H8802) feed^H7462^(H8799) themselves any more; for I will deliver^H5337^(H8689) my flock^H6629 from their mouth^H6310, that they may not be meat^H402 for them.

¹¹ “‘For the Lord Yahweh says: “Behold, I myself, even I, will search for my sheep, and will seek them out.

KJVFor thus saith^H559^(H8804) the Lord^H136 GOD^H3069; Behold, I, even I, will both search^H1875^(H8804) my sheep^H6629, and seek them out^H1239^(H8765).

¹² As a shepherd seeks out his flock in the day that he is among his sheep that are scattered abroad, so I will seek out my sheep. I will deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day.

KJVAs a shepherd^H7462^(H8802) seeketh out^H1243 his flock^H5739 in the day^H3117 that he is among^H8432 his sheep^H6629 that are scattered^H6567^(H8737); so will I seek out^H1239^(H8762) my sheep^H6629, and will deliver^H5337^(H8689) them out of all places^H4725 where they have been scattered^H6327^(H8738) in the cloudy^H6051 and dark^H6205 day^H3117.

¹³ I will bring them out from the peoples, and gather them from the countries, and will bring them into their own land. I will feed them on the mountains of Israel, by the watercourses, and in all the inhabited places of the country.

KJVAnd I will bring them out^H3318^(H8689) from the people^H5971, and gather^H6908^(H8765) them from the countries^H776, and will bring^H935^(H8689) them to their own land^H127, and feed^H7462^(H8804) them upon the mountains^H2022 of Israel^H3478 by the rivers^H650, and in all the inhabited places^H4186 of the country^H776.

¹⁴ I will feed them with good pasture, and their fold will be on the mountains of the height of Israel. There they will lie down in a good fold. They will feed on rich pasture on the mountains of Israel.

KJVI will feed^H7462^(H8799) them in a good^H2896 pasture^H4829, and upon the high^H4791 mountains^H2022 of Israel^H3478 shall their fold^H5116 be: there shall they lie^H7257^(H8799) in a good^H2896 fold^H5116, and in a fat^H8082 pasture^H4829 shall they feed^H7462^(H8799) upon the mountains^H2022 of Israel^H3478.

¹⁵ I myself will be the shepherd of my sheep, and I will cause them to lie down,” says the Lord Yahweh.

KJVI will feed^H7462^(H8799) my flock^H6629, and I will cause them to lie down^H7257^(H8686), saith^H5002^(H8803) the Lord^H136 GOD^H3069.

¹⁶ “I will seek that which was lost, and will bring back that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick; but I will destroy the fat and the strong. I will feed them in justice.”’

¹⁷ “As for you, O my flock, the Lord Yahweh says: ‘Behold, I judge between sheep and sheep, the rams and the male goats.

KJVAnd as for you^H859, O my flock^H6629, thus saith^H559^(H8804) the Lord^H136 GOD^H3069; Behold, I judge^H8199^(H8802) between cattle^H7716 and cattle^H7716, between the rams^H352 and the he goats^H6260.

¹⁸ Does it seem a small thing to you to have fed on the good pasture, but you must tread down with your feet the residue of your pasture? And to have drunk of the clear waters, but must you foul the residue with your feet?

KJVSeemeth it a small thing^H4592 unto you to have eaten up^H7462^(H8799) the good^H2896 pasture^H4829, but ye must tread down^H7429^(H8799) with your feet^H7272 the residue^H3499 of your pastures^H4829? and to have drunk^H8354^(H8799) of the deep^H4950 waters^H4325, but ye must foul^H7515^(H8799) the residue^H3498^(H8737) with your feet^H7272?

¹⁹ As for my sheep, they eat that which you have trodden with your feet, and they drink that which you have fouled with your feet.’

KJVAnd as for my flock^H6629, they eat^H7462^(H8799) that which ye have trodden^H4823 with your feet^H7272; and they drink^H8354^(H8799) that which ye have fouled^H4833 with your feet^H7272.

²⁰ “Therefore the Lord Yahweh says to them: ‘Behold, I, even I, will judge between the fat sheep and the lean sheep.

KJVTherefore thus saith^H559^(H8804) the Lord^H136 GOD^H3069 unto them; Behold, I, even I, will judge^H8199^(H8804) between the fat^H1274 cattle^H7716 and between the lean^H7330 cattle^H7716.

²¹ Because you thrust with side and with shoulder, and push all the diseased with your horns, until you have scattered them abroad,

KJVBecause ye have thrust^H1920^(H8799) with side^H6654 and with shoulder^H3802, and pushed^H5055^(H8762) all the diseased^H2470^(H8737) with your horns^H7161, till ye have scattered^H6327^(H8689) them abroad^H2351;

²² therefore I will save my flock, and they will no more be a prey. I will judge between sheep and sheep.

²³ I will set up one shepherd over them, and he will feed them, even my servant David. He will feed them, and he will be their shepherd.

KJVAnd I will set up^H6965^(H8689) one^H259 shepherd^H7462^(H8802) over them, and he shall feed^H7462^(H8804) them, even my servant^H5650 David^H1732; he shall feed^H7462^(H8799) them, and he shall be their shepherd^H7462^(H8802).

²⁴ I, Yahweh, will be their God, and my servant David prince among them. I, Yahweh, have spoken it.

KJVAnd I the LORD^H3068 will be their God^H430, and my servant^H5650 David^H1732 a prince^H5387 among^H8432 them; I the LORD^H3068 have spoken^H1696^(H8765) it.

²⁵ “‘I will make with them a covenant of peace, and will cause evil animals to cease out of the land. They will dwell securely in the wilderness and sleep in the woods.

KJVAnd I will make^H3772^(H8804) with them a covenant^H1285 of peace^H7965, and will cause the evil^H7451 beasts^H2416 to cease^H7673^(H8689) out of the land^H776: and they shall dwell^H3427^(H8804) safely^H983 in the wilderness^H4057, and sleep^H3462^(H8804) in the woods^H3293^(H8675)^H3264.

²⁶ I will make them and the places around my hill a blessing. I will cause the shower to come down in its season. There will be showers of blessing.

KJVAnd I will make^H5414^(H8804) them and the places round about^H5439 my hill^H1389 a blessing^H1293; and I will cause the shower^H1653 to come down^H3381^(H8689) in his season^H6256; there shall be showers^H1653 of blessing^H1293.

²⁷ The tree of the field will yield its fruit, and the earth will yield its increase, and they will be secure in their land. Then they will know that I am Yahweh, when I have broken the bars of their yoke, and have delivered them out of the hand of those who made slaves of them.

²⁸ They will no more be a prey to the nations, neither will the animals of the earth devour them; but they will dwell securely, and no one will make them afraid.

KJVAnd they shall no more be a prey^H957 to the heathen^H1471, neither shall the beast^H2416 of the land^H776 devour^H398^(H8799) them; but they shall dwell^H3427^(H8804) safely^H983, and none shall make them afraid^H2729^(H8688).

²⁹ I will raise up to them a plantation for renown, and they will no more be consumed with famine in the land, and not bear the shame of the nations any more.

KJVAnd I will raise up^H6965^(H8689) for them a plant^H4302 of renown^H8034, and they shall be no more consumed^H622^(H8803) with hunger^H7458 in the land^H776, neither bear^H5375^(H8799) the shame^H3639 of the heathen^H1471 any more.

³⁰ They will know that I, Yahweh, their God am with them, and that they, the house of Israel, are my people, says the Lord Yahweh.

KJVThus shall they know^H3045^(H8804) that I the LORD^H3068 their God^H430 am with them, and that they, even the house^H1004 of Israel^H3478, are my people^H5971, saith^H5002^(H8803) the Lord^H136 GOD^H3069.

³¹ You my sheep, the sheep of my pasture, are men, and I am your God,’ says the Lord Yahweh.”

KJVAnd ye^H859 my flock^H6629, the flock^H6629 of my pasture^H4830, are men^H120, and I am your God^H430, saith^H5002^(H8803) the Lord^H136 GOD^H3069.

¹Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,

² “Son of man, speak to the children of your people, and tell them, ‘When I bring the sword on a land, and the people of the land take a man from among them, and set him for their watchman,

KJVSon^H1121 of man^H120, speak^H1696^(H8761) to the children^H1121 of thy people^H5971, and say^H559^(H8804) unto them, When I bring^H935^(H8686) the sword^H2719 upon a land^H776, if the people^H5971 of the land^H776 take^H3947^(H8804) a^H259 man^H376 of their coasts^H7097, and set^H5414^(H8804) him for their watchman^H6822^(H8802):

³ if, when he sees the sword come on the land, he blows the trumpet and warns the people,

KJVIf when he seeth^H7200^(H8804) the sword^H2719 come^H935^(H8802) upon the land^H776, he blow^H8628^(H8804) the trumpet^H7782, and warn^H2094^(H8689) the people^H5971;

⁴ then whoever hears the sound of the trumpet and doesn’t heed the warning, if the sword comes and takes him away, his blood will be on his own head.

KJVThen whosoever^H8085^(H8802) heareth^H8085^(H8804) the sound^H6963 of the trumpet^H7782, and taketh not warning^H2094^(H8737); if the sword^H2719 come^H935^(H8799), and take him away^H3947^(H8799), his blood^H1818 shall be upon his own head^H7218.

⁵ He heard the sound of the trumpet and didn’t take warning. His blood will be on him; whereas if he had heeded the warning, he would have delivered his soul.

KJVHe heard^H8085^(H8804) the sound^H6963 of the trumpet^H7782, and took not warning^H2094^(H8737); his blood^H1818 shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning^H2094^(H8737) shall deliver^H4422^(H8765) his soul^H5315.

⁶ But if the watchman sees the sword come and doesn’t blow the trumpet, and the people aren’t warned, and the sword comes and takes any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand.’

KJVBut if the watchman^H6822^(H8802) see^H7200^(H8799) the sword^H2719 come^H935^(H8802), and blow^H8628^(H8804) not the trumpet^H7782, and the people^H5971 be not warned^H2094^(H8737); if the sword^H2719 come^H935^(H8799), and take^H3947^(H8799) any person^H5315 from among them, he is taken away^H3947^(H8738) in his iniquity^H5771; but his blood^H1818 will I require^H1875^(H8799) at the watchman's^H6822^(H8802) hand^H3027.

⁷ “So you, son of man, I have set you a watchman to the house of Israel. Therefore hear the word from my mouth, and give them warnings from me.

KJVSo thou, O son^H1121 of man^H120, I have set^H5414^(H8804) thee a watchman^H6822^(H8802) unto the house^H1004 of Israel^H3478; therefore thou shalt hear^H8085^(H8804) the word^H1697 at my mouth^H6310, and warn^H2094^(H8689) them from me.

⁸ When I tell the wicked, ‘O wicked man, you will surely die,’ and you don’t speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man will die in his iniquity, but I will require his blood at your hand.

KJVWhen I say^H559^(H8800) unto the wicked^H7563, O wicked^H7563 man, thou shalt surely^H4191^(H8800) die^H4191^(H8799); if thou dost not speak^H1696^(H8765) to warn^H2094^(H8687) the wicked^H7563 from his way^H1870, that wicked^H7563 man shall die^H4191^(H8799) in his iniquity^H5771; but his blood^H1818 will I require^H1245^(H8762) at thine hand^H3027.

⁹ Nevertheless, if you warn the wicked of his way to turn from it, and he doesn’t turn from his way; he will die in his iniquity, but you have delivered your soul.

KJVNevertheless, if thou warn^H2094^(H8689) the wicked^H7563 of his way^H1870 to turn^H7725^(H8800) from it; if he do not turn^H7725^(H8804) from his way^H1870, he shall die^H4191^(H8799) in his iniquity^H5771; but thou hast delivered^H5337^(H8689) thy soul^H5315.

¹⁰ “You, son of man, tell the house of Israel: ‘You say this, “Our transgressions and our sins are on us, and we pine away in them. How then can we live?”’

KJVTherefore, O thou son^H1121 of man^H120, speak^H559^(H8798) unto the house^H1004 of Israel^H3478; Thus ye speak^H559^(H8804), saying^H559^(H8800), If our transgressions^H6588 and our sins^H2403 be upon us, and we pine away^H4743^(H8737) in them, how should we then live^H2421^(H8799)?

¹¹ Tell them, ‘“As I live,” says the Lord Yahweh, “I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways! For why will you die, house of Israel?”’

¹² “You, son of man, tell the children of your people, ‘The righteousness of the righteous will not deliver him in the day of his disobedience. And as for the wickedness of the wicked, he will not fall by it in the day that he turns from his wickedness; neither will he who is righteous be able to live by it in the day that he sins.

KJVTherefore, thou son^H1121 of man^H120, say^H559^(H8798) unto the children^H1121 of thy people^H5971, The righteousness^H6666 of the righteous^H6662 shall not deliver^H5337^(H8686) him in the day^H3117 of his transgression^H6588: as for the wickedness^H7564 of the wicked^H7563, he shall not fall^H3782^(H8735) thereby in the day^H3117 that he turneth^H7725^(H8800) from his wickedness^H7562; neither shall the righteous^H6662 be able^H3201^(H8799) to live^H2421^(H8800) for his righteousness in the day^H3117 that he sinneth^H2398^(H8800).

¹³ When I tell the righteous that he will surely live, if he trusts in his righteousness and commits iniquity, none of his righteous deeds will be remembered; but he will die in his iniquity that he has committed.

KJVWhen I shall say^H559^(H8800) to the righteous^H6662, that he shall surely^H2421^(H8800) live^H2421^(H8799); if he trust^H982^(H8804) to his own righteousness^H6666, and commit^H6213^(H8804) iniquity^H5766, all his righteousnesses^H6666 shall not be remembered^H2142^(H8735); but for his iniquity^H5766 that he hath committed^H6213^(H8804), he shall die^H4191^(H8799) for it.

¹⁴ Again, when I say to the wicked, “You will surely die,” if he turns from his sin and does that which is lawful and right,

KJVAgain, when I say^H559^(H8800) unto the wicked^H7563, Thou shalt surely^H4191^(H8800) die^H4191^(H8799); if he turn^H7725^(H8804) from his sin^H2403, and do^H6213^(H8804) that which is lawful^H4941 and right^H6666;

¹⁵ if the wicked restore the pledge, give again that which he had taken by robbery, walk in the statutes of life, committing no iniquity, he will surely live. He will not die.

KJVIf the wicked^H7563 restore^H7725^(H8686) the pledge^H2258, give again^H7999^(H8762) that he had robbed^H1500, walk^H1980^(H8804) in the statutes^H2708 of life^H2416, without committing^H6213^(H8800) iniquity^H5766; he shall surely^H2421^(H8800) live^H2421^(H8799), he shall not die^H4191^(H8799).

¹⁶ None of his sins that he has committed will be remembered against him. He has done that which is lawful and right. He will surely live.

KJVNone of his sins^H2403 that he hath committed^H2398^(H8804) shall be mentioned^H2142^(H8735) unto him: he hath done^H6213^(H8804) that which is lawful^H4941 and right^H6666; he shall surely^H2421^(H8800) live^H2421^(H8799).

¹⁷ “‘Yet the children of your people say, “The way of the Lord is not fair;” but as for them, their way is not fair.

KJVYet the children^H1121 of thy people^H5971 say^H559^(H8804), The way^H1870 of the Lord^H136 is not equal^H8505^(H8735): but as for them, their way^H1870 is not equal^H8505^(H8735).

¹⁸ When the righteous turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, he will even die therein.

KJVWhen the righteous^H6662 turneth^H7725^(H8800) from his righteousness^H6666, and committeth^H6213^(H8804) iniquity^H5766, he shall even die^H4191^(H8804) thereby.

¹⁹ When the wicked turns from his wickedness and does that which is lawful and right, he will live by it.

KJVBut if the wicked^H7563 turn^H7725^(H8800) from his wickedness^H7564, and do^H6213^(H8804) that which is lawful^H4941 and right^H6666, he shall live^H2421^(H8799) thereby.

²⁰ Yet you say, “The way of the Lord is not fair.” House of Israel, I will judge every one of you after his ways.’”

KJVYet ye say^H559^(H8804), The way^H1870 of the Lord^H136 is not equal^H8505^(H8735). O ye house^H1004 of Israel^H3478, I will judge^H8199^(H8799) you every one^H376 after his ways^H1870.

²¹ In the twelfth year of our captivity, in the tenth month, in the fifth day of the month, one who had escaped out of Jerusalem came to me, saying, “The city has been defeated!”

KJVAnd it came to pass in the twelfth^H8147^H6240 year^H8141 of our captivity^H1546, in the tenth^H6224 month, in the fifth^H2568 day of the month^H2320, that one that had escaped^H6412 out of Jerusalem^H3389 came^H935^(H8804) unto me, saying^H559^(H8800), The city^H5892 is smitten^H5221^(H8717).

²² Now Yahweh’s hand had been on me in the evening, before he who had escaped came; and he had opened my mouth until he came to me in the morning; and my mouth was opened, and I was no longer mute.

KJVNow the hand^H3027 of the LORD^H3068 was upon me in the evening^H6153, afore^H6440 he that was escaped^H6412 came^H935^(H8800); and had opened^H6605^(H8799) my mouth^H6310, until he came^H935^(H8800) to me in the morning^H1242; and my mouth^H6310 was opened^H6605^(H8735), and I was no more dumb^H481^(H8738).

²³ Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,

²⁴ “Son of man, those who inhabit the waste places in the land of Israel speak, saying, ‘Abraham was one, and he inherited the land; but we are many. The land is given us for inheritance.’

KJVSon^H1121 of man^H120, they that inhabit^H3427^(H8802) those wastes^H2723 of the land^H127 of Israel^H3478 speak^H559^(H8802), saying^H559^(H8800), Abraham^H85 was one^H259, and he inherited^H3423^(H8799) the land^H776: but we are many^H7227; the land^H776 is given^H5414^(H8738) us for inheritance^H4181.

²⁵ Therefore tell them, ‘The Lord Yahweh says: “You eat with the blood, and lift up your eyes to your idols, and shed blood. So should you possess the land?
