¹In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, Yahweh’s word came to the prophet Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, saying,

² “Yahweh was very displeased with your fathers.

KJVThe LORD^H3068 hath been sore^H7110 displeased^H7107^(H8804) with your fathers^H1.

³ Therefore tell them, Yahweh of Armies says: ‘Return to me,’ says Yahweh of Armies, ‘and I will return to you,’ says Yahweh of Armies.

KJVTherefore say^H559^(H8804) thou unto them, Thus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635; Turn^H7725^(H8798) ye unto me, saith^H5002^(H8803) the LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635, and I will turn^H7725^(H8799) unto you, saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635.

⁴ Don’t you be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets proclaimed, saying: Yahweh of Armies says, ‘Return now from your evil ways and from your evil doings;’ but they didn’t hear nor listen to me, says Yahweh.

⁵ Your fathers, where are they? And the prophets, do they live forever?

⁶ But my words and my decrees, which I commanded my servants the prophets, didn’t they overtake your fathers? “Then they repented and said, ‘Just as Yahweh of Armies determined to do to us, according to our ways and according to our practices, so he has dealt with us.’”

⁷ On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Shebat, in the second year of Darius, Yahweh’s word came to the prophet Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, saying,

KJVUpon the four^H702 and twentieth^H6242 day^H3117 of the eleventh^H6249^H6240 month^H2320, which is the month^H2320 Sebat^H7627, in the second^H8147 year^H8141 of Darius^H1867, came the word^H1697 of the LORD^H3068 unto Zechariah^H2148, the son^H1121 of Berechiah^H1296, the son^H1121 of Iddo^H5714 the prophet^H5030, saying^H559^(H8800),

⁸ “I had a vision in the night, and behold, a man riding on a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle trees that were in a ravine; and behind him there were red, brown, and white horses.

KJVI saw^H7200^(H8804) by night^H3915, and behold a man^H376 riding^H7392^(H8802) upon a red^H122 horse^H5483, and he stood^H5975^(H8802) among the myrtle trees^H1918 that were in the bottom^H4699; and behind^H310 him were there red^H122 horses^H5483, speckled^H8320, and white^H3836.

⁹ Then I asked, ‘My lord, what are these?’” The angel who talked with me said to me, “I will show you what these are.”

¹⁰ The man who stood among the myrtle trees answered, “They are the ones Yahweh has sent to go back and forth through the earth.”

KJVAnd the man^H376 that stood^H5975^(H8802) among the myrtle trees^H1918 answered^H6030^(H8799) and said^H559^(H8799), These are they whom the LORD^H3068 hath sent^H7971^(H8804) to walk^H1980^(H8692) to and fro through the earth^H776.

¹¹ They reported to Yahweh’s angel who stood among the myrtle trees, and said, “We have walked back and forth through the earth, and behold, all the earth is at rest and in peace.”

¹² Then Yahweh’s angel replied, “O Yahweh of Armies, how long will you not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which you have had indignation these seventy years?”

KJVThen the angel^H4397 of the LORD^H3068 answered^H6030^(H8799) and said^H559^(H8799), O LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635, how long wilt thou not have mercy^H7355^(H8762) on Jerusalem^H3389 and on the cities^H5892 of Judah^H3063, against which thou hast had indignation^H2194^(H8804) these threescore and ten^H7657 years^H8141?

¹³ Yahweh answered the angel who talked with me with kind and comforting words.

KJVAnd the LORD^H3068 answered^H6030^(H8799) the angel^H4397 that talked^H1696^(H8802) with me with good^H2896 words^H1697 and comfortable^H5150 words^H1697.

¹⁴ So the angel who talked with me said to me, “Proclaim, saying, ‘Yahweh of Armies says: “I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.

KJVSo the angel^H4397 that communed^H1696^(H8802) with me said^H559^(H8799) unto me, Cry^H7121^(H8798) thou, saying^H559^(H8800), Thus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635; I am jealous^H7065^(H8765) for Jerusalem^H3389 and for Zion^H6726 with a great^H1419 jealousy^H7068.

¹⁵ I am very angry with the nations that are at ease; for I was but a little displeased, but they added to the calamity.”

KJVAnd I am very^H1419 sore^H7110 displeased^H7107^(H8804) with the heathen^H1471 that are at ease^H7600: for I was but a little^H4592 displeased^H7107^(H8802), and they helped^H5826^(H8804) forward the affliction^H7451.

¹⁶ Therefore Yahweh says: “I have returned to Jerusalem with mercy. My house shall be built in it,” says Yahweh of Armies, “and a line shall be stretched out over Jerusalem.”’

¹⁷ “Proclaim further, saying, ‘Yahweh of Armies says: “My cities will again overflow with prosperity, and Yahweh will again comfort Zion, and will again choose Jerusalem.”’”

KJVCry^H7121^(H8798) yet, saying^H559^(H8800), Thus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635; My cities^H5892 through prosperity^H2896 shall yet be spread abroad^H6327^(H8799); and the LORD^H3068 shall yet comfort^H5162^(H8765) Zion^H6726, and shall yet choose^H977^(H8804) Jerusalem^H3389.

¹⁸ I lifted up my eyes and saw, and behold, four horns.

KJVThen lifted I up^H5375^(H8799) mine eyes^H5869, and saw^H7200^(H8799), and behold four^H702 horns^H7161.

¹⁹ I asked the angel who talked with me, “What are these?” He answered me, “These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.”

KJVAnd I said^H559^(H8799) unto the angel^H4397 that talked^H1696^(H8802) with me, What be these? And he answered^H559^(H8799) me, These are the horns^H7161 which have scattered^H2219^(H8765) Judah^H3063, Israel^H3478, and Jerusalem^H3389.

²⁰ Yahweh showed me four craftsmen.

KJVAnd the LORD^H3068 shewed^H7200^(H8686) me four^H702 carpenters^H2796.

²¹ Then I asked, “What are these coming to do?” He said, “These are the horns which scattered Judah, so that no man lifted up his head; but these have come to terrify them, to cast down the horns of the nations that lifted up their horn against the land of Judah to scatter it.”

KJVThen said^H559^(H8799) I, What come^H935^(H8802) these to do^H6213^(H8800)? And he spake^H559^(H8799), saying^H559^(H8800), These are the horns^H7161 which have scattered^H2219^(H8765) Judah^H3063, so that^H6310 no man^H376 did lift up^H5375^(H8804) his head^H7218: but these are come^H935^(H8799) to fray^H2729^(H8687) them, to cast out^H3034^(H8763) the horns^H7161 of the Gentiles^H1471, which lifted up^H5375^(H8802) their horn^H7161 over the land^H776 of Judah^H3063 to scatter^H2219^(H8763) it.

¹In the seventh month, in the twenty-first day of the month, Yahweh’s word came by Haggai the prophet, saying,

² “Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to the remnant of the people, saying,

KJVSpeak^H559^(H8798) now to Zerubbabel^H2216 the son^H1121 of Shealtiel^H7597, governor^H6346 of Judah^H3063, and to Joshua^H3091 the son^H1121 of Josedech^H3087, the high^H1419 priest^H3548, and to the residue^H7611 of the people^H5971, saying^H559^(H8800),

³ ‘Who is left among you who saw this house in its former glory? How do you see it now? Isn’t it in your eyes as nothing?

KJVWho is left^H7604^(H8737) among you that saw^H7200^(H8804) this house^H1004 in her first^H7223 glory^H3519? and how do ye see^H7200^(H8802) it now? is it not in your eyes^H5869 in comparison^H3644 of it as nothing?

⁴ Yet now be strong, Zerubbabel,’ says Yahweh. ‘Be strong, Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest. Be strong, all you people of the land,’ says Yahweh, ‘and work, for I am with you,’ says Yahweh of Armies.

⁵ This is the word that I covenanted with you when you came out of Egypt, and my Spirit lived among you. ‘Don’t be afraid.’

⁶ For this is what Yahweh of Armies says: ‘Yet once more, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, the earth, the sea, and the dry land;

KJVFor thus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635; Yet once^H259, it is a little while^H4592, and I will shake^H7493^(H8688) the heavens^H8064, and the earth^H776, and the sea^H3220, and the dry^H2724 land;

⁷ and I will shake all nations. The treasure of all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory, says Yahweh of Armies.

⁸ The silver is mine, and the gold is mine,’ says Yahweh of Armies.

⁹ ‘The latter glory of this house will be greater than the former,’ says Yahweh of Armies; ‘and in this place I will give peace,’ says Yahweh of Armies.”

¹⁰ In the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, Yahweh’s word came by Haggai the prophet, saying,

KJVIn the four^H702 and twentieth^H6242 day of the ninth^H8671 month, in the second^H8147 year^H8141 of Darius^H1867, came the word^H1697 of the LORD^H3068 by^H3027 Haggai^H2292 the prophet^H5030, saying^H559^(H8800),

¹¹ “Yahweh of Armies says: Ask now the priests concerning the law, saying,

KJVThus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635; Ask^H7592^(H8798) now the priests^H3548 concerning the law^H8451, saying^H559^(H8800),

¹² ‘If someone carries holy meat in the fold of his garment, and with his fold touches bread, stew, wine, oil, or any food, will it become holy?’” The priests answered, “No.”

KJVIf one^H376 bear^H5375^(H8799) holy^H6944 flesh^H1320 in the skirt^H3671 of his garment^H899, and with his skirt^H3671 do touch^H5060^(H8804) bread^H3899, or pottage^H5138, or wine^H3196, or oil^H8081, or any meat^H3978, shall it be holy^H6942^(H8799)? ¹³ Then Haggai said, “If one who is unclean by reason of a dead body touches any of these, will it be unclean?” The priests answered, “It will be unclean.”

¹⁴ Then Haggai answered, “‘So is this people, and so is this nation before me,’ says Yahweh; ‘and so is every work of their hands. That which they offer there is unclean.

¹⁵ Now, please consider from this day and backward, before a stone was laid on a stone in Yahweh’s temple.

KJVAnd now, I pray you, consider^H7760^(H8798)^H3824 from this day^H3117 and upward^H4605, from before^H2962 a stone^H68 was laid^H7760^(H8800) upon a stone^H68 in the temple^H1964 of the LORD^H3068:

¹⁶ Through all that time, when one came to a heap of twenty measures, there were only ten. When one came to the wine vat to draw out fifty, there were only twenty.

¹⁷ I struck you with blight, mildew, and hail in all the work of your hands; yet you didn’t turn to me,’ says Yahweh.

¹⁸ ‘Consider, please, from this day and backward, from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, since the day that the foundation of Yahweh’s temple was laid, consider it.

¹⁹ Is the seed yet in the barn? Yes, the vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate, and the olive tree haven’t produced. From today I will bless you.’”

²⁰ Yahweh’s word came the second time to Haggai in the twenty-fourth day of the month, saying,

²¹ “Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying, ‘I will shake the heavens and the earth.

²² I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms. I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the nations. I will overthrow the chariots and those who ride in them. The horses and their riders will come down, everyone by the sword of his brother.

²³ In that day, says Yahweh of Armies, I will take you, Zerubbabel my servant, the son of Shealtiel,’ says Yahweh, ‘and will make you like a signet ring, for I have chosen you,’ says Yahweh of Armies.”
