¹I lifted up my eyes, and saw, and behold, a man with a measuring line in his hand.

² Then I asked, “Where are you going?” He said to me, “To measure Jerusalem, to see what is its width and what is its length.”

KJVThen said^H559^(H8799) I, Whither goest^H1980^(H8802) thou? And he said^H559^(H8799) unto me, To measure^H4058^(H8800) Jerusalem^H3389, to see^H7200^(H8800) what^H4100 is the breadth^H7341 thereof, and what is the length^H753 thereof.

³ Behold, the angel who talked with me went out, and another angel went out to meet him,

KJVAnd, behold, the angel^H4397 that talked^H1696^(H8802) with me went forth^H3318^(H8802), and another^H312 angel^H4397 went out^H3318^(H8802) to meet^H7125^(H8800) him,

⁴ and said to him, “Run, speak to this young man, saying, ‘Jerusalem will be inhabited as villages without walls, because of the multitude of men and livestock in it.

KJVAnd said^H559^(H8799) unto him, Run^H7323^(H8798), speak^H1696^(H8761) to this^H1975 young man^H5288, saying^H559^(H8800), Jerusalem^H3389 shall be inhabited^H3427^(H8799) as towns without walls^H6519 for the multitude^H7230 of men^H120 and cattle^H929 therein^H8432:

⁵ For I,’ says Yahweh, ‘will be to her a wall of fire around it, and I will be the glory in the middle of her.

KJVFor I, saith^H5002^(H8803) the LORD^H3068, will be unto her a wall^H2346 of fire^H784 round about^H5439, and will be the glory^H3519 in the midst^H8432 of her.

⁶ Come! Come! Flee from the land of the north,’ says Yahweh; ‘for I have spread you abroad as the four winds of the sky,’ says Yahweh.

⁷ ‘Come, Zion! Escape, you who dwell with the daughter of Babylon.’

KJVDeliver^H4422^(H8734) thyself, O^H1945 Zion^H6726, that dwellest^H3427^(H8802) with the daughter^H1323 of Babylon^H894.

⁸ For Yahweh of Armies says: ‘For honor he has sent me to the nations which plundered you; for he who touches you touches the apple of his eye.

KJVFor thus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635; After^H310 the glory^H3519 hath he sent^H7971^(H8804) me unto the nations^H1471 which spoiled^H7997^(H8802) you: for he that toucheth^H5060^(H8802) you toucheth^H5060^(H8802) the apple^H892 of his eye^H5869.

⁹ For, behold, I will shake my hand over them, and they will be a plunder to those who served them; and you will know that Yahweh of Armies has sent me.

KJVFor, behold, I will shake^H5130^(H8688) mine hand^H3027 upon them, and they shall be a spoil^H7998 to their servants^H5647^(H8802): and ye shall know^H3045^(H8804) that the LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635 hath sent^H7971^(H8804) me.

¹⁰ Sing and rejoice, daughter of Zion! For behold, I come and I will dwell within you,’ says Yahweh.

KJVSing^H7442^(H8798) and rejoice^H8055^(H8798), O daughter^H1323 of Zion^H6726: for, lo, I come^H935^(H8802), and I will dwell^H7931^(H8804) in the midst^H8432 of thee, saith^H5002^(H8803) the LORD^H3068.

¹¹ Many nations shall join themselves to Yahweh in that day, and shall be my people; and I will dwell among you, and you shall know that Yahweh of Armies has sent me to you.

KJVAnd many^H7227 nations^H1471 shall be joined^H3867^(H8738) to the LORD^H3068 in that day^H3117, and shall be my people^H5971: and I will dwell^H7931^(H8804) in the midst^H8432 of thee, and thou shalt know^H3045^(H8804) that the LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635 hath sent^H7971^(H8804) me unto thee.

¹² Yahweh will inherit Judah as his portion in the holy land, and will again choose Jerusalem.

KJVAnd the LORD^H3068 shall inherit^H5157^(H8804) Judah^H3063 his portion^H2506 in the holy^H6944 land^H127, and shall choose^H977^(H8804) Jerusalem^H3389 again.

¹³ Be silent, all flesh, before Yahweh; for he has roused himself from his holy habitation!”

¹In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, Yahweh’s word came to the prophet Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, saying,

KJVIn the eighth^H8066 month^H2320, in the second^H8147 year^H8141 of Darius^H1867, came the word^H1697 of the LORD^H3068 unto Zechariah^H2148, the son^H1121 of Berechiah^H1296, the son^H1121 of Iddo^H5714 the prophet^H5030, saying^H559^(H8800),

² “Yahweh was very displeased with your fathers.

KJVThe LORD^H3068 hath been sore^H7110 displeased^H7107^(H8804) with your fathers^H1.

³ Therefore tell them, Yahweh of Armies says: ‘Return to me,’ says Yahweh of Armies, ‘and I will return to you,’ says Yahweh of Armies.

KJVTherefore say^H559^(H8804) thou unto them, Thus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635; Turn^H7725^(H8798) ye unto me, saith^H5002^(H8803) the LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635, and I will turn^H7725^(H8799) unto you, saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635.

⁴ Don’t you be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets proclaimed, saying: Yahweh of Armies says, ‘Return now from your evil ways and from your evil doings;’ but they didn’t hear nor listen to me, says Yahweh.

⁵ Your fathers, where are they? And the prophets, do they live forever?

⁶ But my words and my decrees, which I commanded my servants the prophets, didn’t they overtake your fathers? “Then they repented and said, ‘Just as Yahweh of Armies determined to do to us, according to our ways and according to our practices, so he has dealt with us.’”

⁷ On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Shebat, in the second year of Darius, Yahweh’s word came to the prophet Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, saying,

KJVUpon the four^H702 and twentieth^H6242 day^H3117 of the eleventh^H6249^H6240 month^H2320, which is the month^H2320 Sebat^H7627, in the second^H8147 year^H8141 of Darius^H1867, came the word^H1697 of the LORD^H3068 unto Zechariah^H2148, the son^H1121 of Berechiah^H1296, the son^H1121 of Iddo^H5714 the prophet^H5030, saying^H559^(H8800),

⁸ “I had a vision in the night, and behold, a man riding on a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle trees that were in a ravine; and behind him there were red, brown, and white horses.

KJVI saw^H7200^(H8804) by night^H3915, and behold a man^H376 riding^H7392^(H8802) upon a red^H122 horse^H5483, and he stood^H5975^(H8802) among the myrtle trees^H1918 that were in the bottom^H4699; and behind^H310 him were there red^H122 horses^H5483, speckled^H8320, and white^H3836.

⁹ Then I asked, ‘My lord, what are these?’” The angel who talked with me said to me, “I will show you what these are.”

¹⁰ The man who stood among the myrtle trees answered, “They are the ones Yahweh has sent to go back and forth through the earth.”

KJVAnd the man^H376 that stood^H5975^(H8802) among the myrtle trees^H1918 answered^H6030^(H8799) and said^H559^(H8799), These are they whom the LORD^H3068 hath sent^H7971^(H8804) to walk^H1980^(H8692) to and fro through the earth^H776.

¹¹ They reported to Yahweh’s angel who stood among the myrtle trees, and said, “We have walked back and forth through the earth, and behold, all the earth is at rest and in peace.”

¹² Then Yahweh’s angel replied, “O Yahweh of Armies, how long will you not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which you have had indignation these seventy years?”

¹³ Yahweh answered the angel who talked with me with kind and comforting words.

KJVAnd the LORD^H3068 answered^H6030^(H8799) the angel^H4397 that talked^H1696^(H8802) with me with good^H2896 words^H1697 and comfortable^H5150 words^H1697.

¹⁴ So the angel who talked with me said to me, “Proclaim, saying, ‘Yahweh of Armies says: “I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.

KJVSo the angel^H4397 that communed^H1696^(H8802) with me said^H559^(H8799) unto me, Cry^H7121^(H8798) thou, saying^H559^(H8800), Thus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635; I am jealous^H7065^(H8765) for Jerusalem^H3389 and for Zion^H6726 with a great^H1419 jealousy^H7068.

¹⁵ I am very angry with the nations that are at ease; for I was but a little displeased, but they added to the calamity.”

KJVAnd I am very^H1419 sore^H7110 displeased^H7107^(H8804) with the heathen^H1471 that are at ease^H7600: for I was but a little^H4592 displeased^H7107^(H8802), and they helped^H5826^(H8804) forward the affliction^H7451.

¹⁶ Therefore Yahweh says: “I have returned to Jerusalem with mercy. My house shall be built in it,” says Yahweh of Armies, “and a line shall be stretched out over Jerusalem.”’

KJVTherefore thus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068; I am returned^H7725^(H8804) to Jerusalem^H3389 with mercies^H7356: my house^H1004 shall be built^H1129^(H8735) in it, saith^H5002^(H8803) the LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635, and a line^H6957^(H8675)^H6961 shall be stretched forth^H5186^(H8735) upon Jerusalem^H3389.

¹⁷ “Proclaim further, saying, ‘Yahweh of Armies says: “My cities will again overflow with prosperity, and Yahweh will again comfort Zion, and will again choose Jerusalem.”’”

¹⁸ I lifted up my eyes and saw, and behold, four horns.

¹⁹ I asked the angel who talked with me, “What are these?” He answered me, “These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.”

KJVAnd I said^H559^(H8799) unto the angel^H4397 that talked^H1696^(H8802) with me, What be these? And he answered^H559^(H8799) me, These are the horns^H7161 which have scattered^H2219^(H8765) Judah^H3063, Israel^H3478, and Jerusalem^H3389.

²⁰ Yahweh showed me four craftsmen.

KJVAnd the LORD^H3068 shewed^H7200^(H8686) me four^H702 carpenters^H2796.

²¹ Then I asked, “What are these coming to do?” He said, “These are the horns which scattered Judah, so that no man lifted up his head; but these have come to terrify them, to cast down the horns of the nations that lifted up their horn against the land of Judah to scatter it.”

KJVThen said^H559^(H8799) I, What come^H935^(H8802) these to do^H6213^(H8800)? And he spake^H559^(H8799), saying^H559^(H8800), These are the horns^H7161 which have scattered^H2219^(H8765) Judah^H3063, so that^H6310 no man^H376 did lift up^H5375^(H8804) his head^H7218: but these are come^H935^(H8799) to fray^H2729^(H8687) them, to cast out^H3034^(H8763) the horns^H7161 of the Gentiles^H1471, which lifted up^H5375^(H8802) their horn^H7161 over the land^H776 of Judah^H3063 to scatter^H2219^(H8763) it.
