¹Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

² “Speak to the children of Israel, and take rods from them, one for each fathers’ house, of all their princes according to their fathers’ houses, twelve rods. Write each man’s name on his rod.

KJVSpeak^H1696^(H8761) unto the children^H1121 of Israel^H3478, and take^H3947^(H8798) of every one of them a rod^H4294^H4294 according to the house^H1004 of their fathers^H1, of all their princes^H5387 according to the house^H1004 of their fathers^H1 twelve^H8147^H6240 rods^H4294: write^H3789^(H8799) thou every man's^H376 name^H8034 upon his rod^H4294.

³ You shall write Aaron’s name on Levi’s rod. There shall be one rod for each head of their fathers’ houses.

KJVAnd thou shalt write^H3789^(H8799) Aaron's^H175 name^H8034 upon the rod^H4294 of Levi^H3878: for one^H259 rod^H4294 shall be for the head^H7218 of the house^H1004 of their fathers^H1.

⁴ You shall lay them up in the Tent of Meeting before the covenant, where I meet with you.

KJVAnd thou shalt lay them up^H3240^(H8689) in the tabernacle^H168 of the congregation^H4150 before^H6440 the testimony^H5715, where I will meet^H3259^(H8735) with you.

⁵ It shall happen that the rod of the man whom I shall choose shall bud. I will make the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against you, cease from me.”

KJVAnd it shall come to pass, that the man's^H376 rod^H4294, whom I shall choose^H977^(H8799), shall blossom^H6524^(H8799): and I will make to cease^H7918^(H8689) from me the murmurings^H8519 of the children^H1121 of Israel^H3478, whereby they murmur^H3885^(H8688) against you.

⁶ Moses spoke to the children of Israel; and all their princes gave him rods, for each prince one, according to their fathers’ houses, a total of twelve rods. Aaron’s rod was among their rods.

⁷ Moses laid up the rods before Yahweh in the Tent of the Testimony.

KJVAnd Moses^H4872 laid up^H3240^(H8686) the rods^H4294 before^H6440 the LORD^H3068 in the tabernacle^H168 of witness^H5715.

⁸ On the next day, Moses went into the Tent of the Testimony; and behold, Aaron’s rod for the house of Levi had sprouted, budded, produced blossoms, and bore ripe almonds.

KJVAnd it came to pass, that on the morrow^H4283 Moses^H4872 went^H935^(H8799) into the tabernacle^H168 of witness^H5715; and, behold, the rod^H4294 of Aaron^H175 for the house^H1004 of Levi^H3878 was budded^H6524^(H8804), and brought forth^H3318^(H8686) buds^H6525, and bloomed^H6692^(H8686) blossoms^H6731, and yielded^H1580^(H8799) almonds^H8247.

⁹ Moses brought out all the rods from before Yahweh to all the children of Israel. They looked, and each man took his rod.

KJVAnd Moses^H4872 brought out^H3318^(H8686) all the rods^H4294 from before^H6440 the LORD^H3068 unto all the children^H1121 of Israel^H3478: and they looked^H7200^(H8799), and took^H3947^(H8799) every man^H376 his rod^H4294.

¹⁰ Yahweh said to Moses, “Put back the rod of Aaron before the covenant, to be kept for a token against the children of rebellion; that you may make an end of their complaining against me, that they not die.”

KJVAnd the LORD^H3068 said^H559^(H8799) unto Moses^H4872, Bring^H7725 Aaron's^H175 rod^H4294 again^H7725^(H8685) before^H6440 the testimony^H5715, to be kept^H4931 for a token^H226 against the rebels^H4805^H1121; and thou shalt quite take away^H3615^(H8762) their murmurings^H8519 from me, that they die^H4191^(H8799) not.

¹¹ Moses did so. As Yahweh commanded him, so he did.

KJVAnd Moses^H4872 did^H6213^(H8799) so: as the LORD^H3068 commanded^H6680^(H8765) him, so did^H6213^(H8804) he.

¹² The children of Israel spoke to Moses, saying, “Behold, we perish! We are undone! We are all undone!

KJVAnd the children^H1121 of Israel^H3478 spake^H559^(H8799) unto Moses^H4872, saying^H559^(H8800), Behold, we die^H1478^(H8804), we perish^H6^(H8804), we all perish^H6^(H8804).

¹³ Everyone who keeps approaching Yahweh’s tabernacle, dies! Will we all perish?”

KJVWhosoever cometh any thing near^H7131 unto the tabernacle^H4908 of the LORD^H3068 shall die^H4191^(H8799): shall we be consumed^H8552^(H8804) with dying^H1478^(H8800)?

¹Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, with Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took some men.

² They rose up before Moses, with some of the children of Israel, two hundred fifty princes of the congregation, called to the assembly, men of renown.

³ They assembled themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said to them, “You take too much on yourself, since all the congregation are holy, everyone of them, and Yahweh is among them! Why do you lift yourselves up above Yahweh’s assembly?”

KJVAnd they gathered themselves together^H6950^(H8735) against Moses^H4872 and against Aaron^H175, and said^H559^(H8799) unto them, Ye take too much^H7227 upon you, seeing all the congregation^H5712 are holy^H6918, every one of them, and the LORD^H3068 is among^H8432 them: wherefore then lift ye up^H5375^(H8691) yourselves above the congregation^H6951 of the LORD^H3068?

⁴ When Moses heard it, he fell on his face.

⁵ He said to Korah and to all his company, “In the morning, Yahweh will show who are his, and who is holy, and will cause him to come near to him. Even him whom he shall choose, he will cause to come near to him.

KJVAnd he spake^H1696^(H8762) unto Korah^H7141 and unto all his company^H5712, saying^H559^(H8800), Even to morrow^H1242 the LORD^H3068 will shew^H3045^(H8686) who are his, and who is holy^H6918; and will cause him to come near^H7126^(H8689) unto him: even him whom he hath chosen^H977^(H8799) will he cause to come near^H7126^(H8686) unto him.

⁶ Do this: have Korah and all his company take censers,

KJVThis do^H6213^(H8798); Take^H3947^(H8798) you censers^H4289, Korah^H7141, and all his company^H5712;

⁷ put fire in them, and put incense on them before Yahweh tomorrow. It shall be that the man whom Yahweh chooses, he shall be holy. You have gone too far, you sons of Levi!”

KJVAnd put^H5414^(H8798) fire^H784 therein^H2004, and put^H7760^(H8798) incense^H7004 in them before^H6440 the LORD^H3068 to morrow^H4279: and it shall be that the man^H376 whom the LORD^H3068 doth choose^H977^(H8799), he shall be holy^H6918: ye take too much^H7227 upon you, ye sons^H1121 of Levi^H3878.

⁸ Moses said to Korah, “Hear now, you sons of Levi!

KJVAnd Moses^H4872 said^H559^(H8799) unto Korah^H7141, Hear^H8085^(H8798), I pray you, ye sons^H1121 of Levi^H3878:

⁹ Is it a small thing to you that the God of Israel has separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to himself, to do the service of Yahweh’s tabernacle, and to stand before the congregation to minister to them;

KJVSeemeth it but a small thing^H4592 unto you, that the God^H430 of Israel^H3478 hath separated^H914^(H8689) you from the congregation^H5712 of Israel^H3478, to bring you near^H7126^(H8687) to himself to do^H5647^(H8800) the service^H5656 of the tabernacle^H4908 of the LORD^H3068, and to stand^H5975^(H8800) before^H6440 the congregation^H5712 to minister^H8334^(H8763) unto them?

¹⁰ and that he has brought you near, and all your brothers the sons of Levi with you? Do you seek the priesthood also?

KJVAnd he hath brought thee near^H7126^(H8686) to him, and all thy brethren^H251 the sons^H1121 of Levi^H3878 with thee: and seek^H1245^(H8765) ye the priesthood^H3550 also?

¹¹ Therefore you and all your company have gathered together against Yahweh! What is Aaron that you complain against him?”

KJVFor which cause^H3651 both thou and all thy company^H5712 are gathered together^H3259^(H8737) against the LORD^H3068: and what is Aaron^H175, that ye murmur^H3885^(H8686)^(H8675)^H3885^(H8735) against him?

¹² Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab; and they said, “We won’t come up!

KJVAnd Moses^H4872 sent^H7971^(H8799) to call^H7121^(H8800) Dathan^H1885 and Abiram^H48, the sons^H1121 of Eliab^H446: which said^H559^(H8799), We will not come up^H5927^(H8799):

¹³ Is it a small thing that you have brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, but you must also make yourself a prince over us?

¹⁴ Moreover you haven’t brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey, nor given us inheritance of fields and vineyards. Will you put out the eyes of these men? We won’t come up.”

¹⁵ Moses was very angry, and said to Yahweh, “Don’t respect their offering. I have not taken one donkey from them, neither have I hurt one of them.”

KJVAnd Moses^H4872 was very^H3966 wroth^H2734^(H8799), and said^H559^(H8799) unto the LORD^H3068, Respect^H6437^(H8799) not thou their offering^H4503: I have not taken^H5375^(H8804) one^H259 ass^H2543 from them, neither have I hurt^H7489^(H8689) one^H259 of them.

¹⁶ Moses said to Korah, “You and all your company go before Yahweh, you, and they, and Aaron, tomorrow.

KJVAnd Moses^H4872 said^H559^(H8799) unto Korah^H7141, Be thou and all thy company^H5712 before^H6440 the LORD^H3068, thou, and they, and Aaron^H175, to morrow^H4279:

¹⁷ Each man take his censer and put incense on it, and each man bring before Yahweh his censer, two hundred fifty censers; you also, and Aaron, each with his censer.”

¹⁸ They each took his censer, and put fire in it, and laid incense on it, and stood at the door of the Tent of Meeting with Moses and Aaron.

¹⁹ Korah assembled all the congregation opposite them to the door of the Tent of Meeting. Yahweh’s glory appeared to all the congregation.

KJVAnd Korah^H7141 gathered^H6950^(H8686) all the congregation^H5712 against them unto the door^H6607 of the tabernacle^H168 of the congregation^H4150: and the glory^H3519 of the LORD^H3068 appeared^H7200^(H8735) unto all the congregation^H5712.

²⁰ Yahweh spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,

KJVAnd the LORD^H3068 spake^H1696^(H8762) unto Moses^H4872 and unto Aaron^H175, saying^H559^(H8800),

²¹ “Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment!”

KJVSeparate^H914^(H8734) yourselves from among^H8432 this congregation^H5712, that I may consume^H3615^(H8762) them in a moment^H7281.

²² They fell on their faces, and said, “God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and will you be angry with all the congregation?”

KJVAnd they fell^H5307^(H8799) upon their faces^H6440, and said^H559^(H8799), O God^H410, the God^H430 of the spirits^H7307 of all flesh^H1320, shall one^H259 man^H376 sin^H2398^(H8799), and wilt thou be wroth^H7107^(H8799) with all the congregation^H5712?

²³ Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

KJVAnd the LORD^H3068 spake^H1696^(H8762) unto Moses^H4872, saying^H559^(H8800),

²⁴ “Speak to the congregation, saying, ‘Get away from around the tent of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram!’”

KJVSpeak^H1696^(H8761) unto the congregation^H5712, saying^H559^(H8800), Get you up^H5927^(H8734) from about^H5439 the tabernacle^H4908 of Korah^H7141, Dathan^H1885, and Abiram^H48.

²⁵ Moses rose up and went to Dathan and Abiram; and the elders of Israel followed him.

KJVAnd Moses^H4872 rose up^H6965^(H8799) and went^H3212^(H8799) unto Dathan^H1885 and Abiram^H48; and the elders^H2205 of Israel^H3478 followed^H3212^(H8799) him^H310.

²⁶ He spoke to the congregation, saying, “Depart, please, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest you be consumed in all their sins!”

KJVAnd he spake^H1696^(H8762) unto the congregation^H5712, saying^H559^(H8800), Depart^H5493^(H8798), I pray you, from the tents^H168 of these wicked^H7563 men^H582, and touch^H5060^(H8799) nothing of theirs, lest ye be consumed^H5595^(H8735) in all their sins^H2403.

²⁷ So they went away from the tent of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, on every side. Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood at the door of their tents with their wives, their sons, and their little ones.

KJVSo they gat up^H5927^(H8735) from the tabernacle^H4908 of Korah^H7141, Dathan^H1885, and Abiram^H48, on every side^H5439: and Dathan^H1885 and Abiram^H48 came out^H3318^(H8804), and stood^H5324^(H8737) in the door^H6607 of their tents^H168, and their wives^H802, and their sons^H1121, and their little children^H2945.

²⁸ Moses said, “Hereby you shall know that Yahweh has sent me to do all these works; for they are not from my own mind.

KJVAnd Moses^H4872 said^H559^(H8799), Hereby ye shall know^H3045^(H8799) that the LORD^H3068 hath sent^H7971^(H8804) me to do^H6213^(H8800) all these works^H4639; for I have not done them of mine own mind^H3820.

²⁹ If these men die the common death of all men, or if they experience what all men experience, then Yahweh hasn’t sent me.

KJVIf these men die^H4191^(H8799) the common death^H4194 of all men^H120, or if they be visited^H6485^(H8735) after the visitation^H6486 of all men^H120; then the LORD^H3068 hath not sent^H7971^(H8804) me.

³⁰ But if Yahweh makes a new thing, and the ground opens its mouth, and swallows them up with all that belong to them, and they go down alive into Sheol, then you shall understand that these men have despised Yahweh.”

KJVBut if the LORD^H3068 make^H1254^(H8799) a new thing^H1278, and the earth^H127 open^H6475^(H8804) her mouth^H6310, and swallow them up^H1104^(H8804), with all that appertain unto them, and they go down^H3381^(H8804) quick^H2416 into the pit^H7585; then ye shall understand^H3045^(H8804) that these men^H582 have provoked^H5006^(H8765) the LORD^H3068.

³¹ As he finished speaking all these words, the ground that was under them split apart.

KJVAnd it came to pass, as he had made an end^H3615^(H8763) of speaking^H1696^(H8763) all these words^H1697, that the ground^H127 clave asunder^H1234^(H8735) that was under them:

³² The earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up with their households, all of Korah’s men, and all their goods.

KJVAnd the earth^H776 opened^H6605^(H8799) her mouth^H6310, and swallowed them up^H1104^(H8799), and their houses^H1004, and all the men^H120 that appertained unto Korah^H7141, and all their goods^H7399.

³³ So they, and all that belonged to them went down alive into Sheol. The earth closed on them, and they perished from among the assembly.

KJVThey, and all that appertained to them, went down^H3381^(H8799) alive^H2416 into the pit^H7585, and the earth^H776 closed^H3680^(H8762) upon them: and they perished^H6^(H8799) from among^H8432 the congregation^H6951.

³⁴ All Israel that were around them fled at their cry; for they said, “Lest the earth swallow us up!”

³⁵ Fire came out from Yahweh, and devoured the two hundred fifty men who offered the incense.

KJVAnd there came out^H3318^(H8804) a fire^H784 from the LORD^H3068, and consumed^H398^(H8799) the two hundred^H3967 and fifty^H2572 men^H376 that offered^H7126^(H8688) incense^H7004.

³⁶ Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

KJVAnd the LORD^H3068 spake^H1696^(H8762) unto Moses^H4872, saying^H559^(H8800),

³⁷ “Speak to Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, that he take up the censers out of the burning, and scatter the fire away from the camp; for they are holy,

KJVSpeak^H559^(H8798) unto Eleazar^H499 the son^H1121 of Aaron^H175 the priest^H3548, that he take up^H7311^(H8686) the censers^H4289 out^H996 of the burning^H8316, and scatter^H2219^(H8798) thou the fire^H784 yonder^H1973; for they are hallowed^H6942^(H8804).

³⁸ even the censers of those who sinned against their own lives. Let them be beaten into plates for a covering of the altar, for they offered them before Yahweh. Therefore they are holy. They shall be a sign to the children of Israel.”

KJVThe censers^H4289 of these sinners^H2400 against their own souls^H5315, let them make^H6213^(H8804) them broad^H7555 plates^H6341 for a covering^H6826 of the altar^H4196: for they offered^H7126^(H8689) them before^H6440 the LORD^H3068, therefore they are hallowed^H6942^(H8799): and they shall be a sign^H226 unto the children^H1121 of Israel^H3478.

³⁹ Eleazar the priest took the bronze censers which those who were burned had offered; and they beat them out for a covering of the altar,

KJVAnd Eleazar^H499 the priest^H3548 took^H3947^(H8799) the brasen^H5178 censers^H4289, wherewith they that were burnt^H8313^(H8803) had offered^H7126^(H8689); and they were made broad^H7554^(H8762) plates for a covering^H6826 of the altar^H4196:

⁴⁰ to be a memorial to the children of Israel, to the end that no stranger who isn’t of the offspring of Aaron, would come near to burn incense before Yahweh, that he not be as Korah and as his company; as Yahweh spoke to him by Moses.

KJVTo be a memorial^H2146 unto the children^H1121 of Israel^H3478, that^H834^H4616 no stranger^H376^H2114^(H8801), which is not of the seed^H2233 of Aaron^H175, come near^H7126^(H8799) to offer^H6999^(H8687) incense^H7004 before^H6440 the LORD^H3068; that he be not as Korah^H7141, and as his company^H5712: as the LORD^H3068 said^H1696^(H8765) to him by the hand^H3027 of Moses^H4872.

⁴¹ But on the next day all the congregation of the children of Israel complained against Moses and against Aaron, saying, “You have killed Yahweh’s people!”

KJVBut on the morrow^H4283 all the congregation^H5712 of the children^H1121 of Israel^H3478 murmured^H3885^(H8735) against Moses^H4872 and against Aaron^H175, saying^H559^(H8800), Ye have killed^H4191^(H8689) the people^H5971 of the LORD^H3068.

⁴² When the congregation was assembled against Moses and against Aaron, they looked toward the Tent of Meeting. Behold, the cloud covered it, and Yahweh’s glory appeared.

KJVAnd it came to pass, when the congregation^H5712 was gathered^H6950^(H8736) against Moses^H4872 and against Aaron^H175, that they looked^H6437^(H8799) toward the tabernacle^H168 of the congregation^H4150: and, behold, the cloud^H6051 covered^H3680^(H8765) it, and the glory^H3519 of the LORD^H3068 appeared^H7200^(H8735).

⁴³ Moses and Aaron came to the front of the Tent of Meeting.

KJVAnd Moses^H4872 and Aaron^H175 came^H935^(H8799) before^H6440 the tabernacle^H168 of the congregation^H4150.

⁴⁴ Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

KJVAnd the LORD^H3068 spake^H1696^(H8762) unto Moses^H4872, saying^H559^(H8800),

⁴⁵ “Get away from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment!” They fell on their faces.

KJVGet you up^H7426^(H8734) from among^H8432 this congregation^H5712, that I may consume^H3615^(H8762) them as in a moment^H7281. And they fell^H5307^(H8799) upon their faces^H6440.

⁴⁶ Moses said to Aaron, “Take your censer, put fire from the altar in it, lay incense on it, carry it quickly to the congregation, and make atonement for them; for wrath has gone out from Yahweh! The plague has begun.”

KJVAnd Moses^H4872 said^H559^(H8799) unto Aaron^H175, Take^H3947^(H8798) a censer^H4289, and put^H5414^(H8798) fire^H784 therein from off^H6440 the altar^H4196, and put^H7760^(H8798) on incense^H7004, and go^H3212^(H8685) quickly^H4120 unto the congregation^H5712, and make an atonement^H3722^(H8761) for them: for there is wrath^H7110 gone out^H3318^(H8804) from the LORD^H3068; the plague^H5063 is begun^H2490^(H8689).

⁴⁷ Aaron did as Moses said, and ran into the middle of the assembly. The plague had already begun among the people. He put on the incense, and made atonement for the people.

KJVAnd Aaron^H175 took^H3947^(H8799) as Moses^H4872 commanded^H1696^(H8765), and ran^H7323^(H8799) into the midst^H8432 of the congregation^H6951; and, behold, the plague^H5063 was begun^H2490^(H8689) among the people^H5971: and he put^H5414^(H8799) on incense^H7004, and made an atonement^H3722^(H8762) for the people^H5971.

⁴⁸ He stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed.

KJVAnd he stood^H5975^(H8799) between the dead^H4191^(H8801) and the living^H2416; and the plague^H4046 was stayed^H6113^(H8735).

⁴⁹ Now those who died by the plague were fourteen thousand seven hundred, in addition to those who died about the matter of Korah.

KJVNow they that died^H4191^(H8801) in the plague^H4046 were fourteen^H702^H6240 thousand^H505 and seven^H7651 hundred^H3967, beside them that died^H4191^(H8801) about the matter^H1697 of Korah^H7141.

⁵⁰ Aaron returned to Moses to the door of the Tent of Meeting, and the plague was stopped.
