² These are the names of the sons of Aaron: Nadab the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

KJVAnd these are the names^H8034 of the sons^H1121 of Aaron^H175; Nadab^H5070 the firstborn^H1060, and Abihu^H30, Eleazar^H499, and Ithamar^H385.

³ These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the priests who were anointed, whom he consecrated to minister in the priest’s office.

KJVThese are the names^H8034 of the sons^H1121 of Aaron^H175, the priests^H3548 which were anointed^H4886^(H8803), whom he consecrated^H4390^(H8765)^H3027 to minister in the priest's office^H3547^(H8763).

⁴ Nadab and Abihu died before Yahweh when they offered strange fire before Yahweh in the wilderness of Sinai, and they had no children. Eleazar and Ithamar ministered in the priest’s office in the presence of Aaron their father.

⁵ Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

⁶ “Bring the tribe of Levi near, and set them before Aaron the priest, that they may minister to him.

KJVBring^H7126 the tribe^H4294 of Levi^H3878 near^H7126^(H8685), and present^H5975^(H8689) them before^H6440 Aaron^H175 the priest^H3548, that they may minister^H8334^(H8765) unto him.

⁷ They shall keep his requirements, and the requirements of the whole congregation before the Tent of Meeting, to do the service of the tabernacle.

⁸ They shall keep all the furnishings of the Tent of Meeting, and the obligations of the children of Israel, to do the service of the tabernacle.

⁹ You shall give the Levites to Aaron and to his sons. They are wholly given to him on the behalf of the children of Israel.

¹⁰ You shall appoint Aaron and his sons, and they shall keep their priesthood, but the stranger who comes near shall be put to death.”

¹² “Behold, I have taken the Levites from among the children of Israel instead of all the firstborn who open the womb among the children of Israel; and the Levites shall be mine,

KJVAnd I, behold, I have taken^H3947^(H8804) the Levites^H3881 from among^H8432 the children^H1121 of Israel^H3478 instead of all the firstborn^H1060 that openeth^H6363 the matrix^H7358 among the children^H1121 of Israel^H3478: therefore the Levites^H3881 shall be mine;

¹³ for all the firstborn are mine. On the day that I struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt I made holy to me all the firstborn in Israel, both man and animal. They shall be mine. I am Yahweh.”

¹⁴ Yahweh spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, saying,

¹⁵ “Count the children of Levi by their fathers’ houses, by their families. You shall count every male from a month old and upward.”

¹⁷ These were the sons of Levi by their names: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

¹⁸ These are the names of the sons of Gershon by their families: Libni and Shimei.

¹⁹ The sons of Kohath by their families: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.

²⁰ The sons of Merari by their families: Mahli and Mushi. These are the families of the Levites according to their fathers’ houses.

KJVAnd the sons^H1121 of Merari^H4847 by their families^H4940; Mahli^H4249, and Mushi^H4187. These are^H1992 the families^H4940 of the Levites^H3881 according to the house^H1004 of their fathers^H1.

²¹ Of Gershon was the family of the Libnites, and the family of the Shimeites. These are the families of the Gershonites.

²² Those who were counted of them, according to the number of all the males from a month old and upward, even those who were counted of them were seven thousand five hundred.

²³ The families of the Gershonites shall encamp behind the tabernacle westward.

²⁴ Eliasaph the son of Lael shall be the prince of the fathers’ house of the Gershonites.

²⁵ The duty of the sons of Gershon in the Tent of Meeting shall be the tabernacle, the tent, its covering, the screen for the door of the Tent of Meeting,

KJVAnd the charge^H4931 of the sons^H1121 of Gershon^H1648 in the tabernacle^H168 of the congregation^H4150 shall be the tabernacle^H4908, and the tent^H168, the covering^H4372 thereof, and the hanging^H4539 for the door^H6607 of the tabernacle^H168 of the congregation^H4150,

²⁶ the hangings of the court, the screen for the door of the court which is by the tabernacle and around the altar, and its cords for all of its service.

KJVAnd the hangings^H7050 of the court^H2691, and the curtain^H4539 for the door^H6607 of the court^H2691, which is by the tabernacle^H4908, and by the altar^H4196 round about^H5439, and the cords^H4340 of it for all the service^H5656 thereof.

²⁷ Of Kohath was the family of the Amramites, the family of the Izharites, the family of the Hebronites, and the family of the Uzzielites. These are the families of the Kohathites.

KJVAnd of Kohath^H6955 was the family^H4940 of the Amramites^H6020, and the family^H4940 of the Izeharites^H3325, and the family^H4940 of the Hebronites^H2276, and the family^H4940 of the Uzzielites^H5817: these are the families^H4940 of the Kohathites^H6956.

²⁸ According to the number of all the males from a month old and upward, there were eight thousand six hundred keeping the requirements of the sanctuary.

KJVIn the number^H4557 of all the males^H2145, from a month^H2320 old^H1121 and upward^H4605, were eight^H8083 thousand^H505 and six^H8337 hundred^H3967, keeping^H8104^(H8802) the charge^H4931 of the sanctuary^H6944.

²⁹ The families of the sons of Kohath shall encamp on the south side of the tabernacle.

³⁰ The prince of the fathers’ house of the families of the Kohathites shall be Elizaphan the son of Uzziel.

KJVAnd the chief^H5387 of the house^H1004 of the father^H1 of the families^H4940 of the Kohathites^H6956 shall be Elizaphan^H469 the son^H1121 of Uzziel^H5816.

³¹ Their duty shall be the ark, the table, the lamp stand, the altars, the vessels of the sanctuary with which they minister, the screen, and all its service.

KJVAnd their charge^H4931 shall be the ark^H727, and the table^H7979, and the candlestick^H4501, and the altars^H4196, and the vessels^H3627 of the sanctuary^H6944 wherewith they minister^H8334^(H8762), and the hanging^H4539, and all the service^H5656 thereof.

³² Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest shall be prince of the princes of the Levites, with the oversight of those who keep the requirements of the sanctuary.

KJVAnd Eleazar^H499 the son^H1121 of Aaron^H175 the priest^H3548 shall be chief^H5387 over the chief^H5387 of the Levites^H3881, and have the oversight^H6486 of them that keep^H8104^(H8802) the charge^H4931 of the sanctuary^H6944.

³³ Of Merari was the family of the Mahlites and the family of the Mushites. These are the families of Merari.

³⁴ Those who were counted of them, according to the number of all the males from a month old and upward, were six thousand two hundred.

KJVAnd those that were numbered^H6485^(H8803) of them, according to the number^H4557 of all the males^H2145, from a month^H2320 old^H1121 and upward^H4605, were six^H8337 thousand^H505 and two hundred^H3967.

³⁵ The prince of the fathers’ house of the families of Merari was Zuriel the son of Abihail. They shall encamp on the north side of the tabernacle.

KJVAnd the chief^H5387 of the house^H1004 of the father^H1 of the families^H4940 of Merari^H4847 was Zuriel^H6700 the son^H1121 of Abihail^H32: these shall pitch^H2583^(H8799) on the side^H3409 of the tabernacle^H4908 northward^H6828.

³⁶ The appointed duty of the sons of Merari shall be the tabernacle’s boards, its bars, its pillars, its sockets, all its instruments, all its service,

KJVAnd under the custody^H6486 and charge^H4931 of the sons^H1121 of Merari^H4847 shall be the boards^H7175 of the tabernacle^H4908, and the bars^H1280 thereof, and the pillars^H5982 thereof, and the sockets^H134 thereof, and all the vessels^H3627 thereof, and all that serveth^H5656 thereto,

³⁷ the pillars of the court around it, their sockets, their pins, and their cords.

KJVAnd the pillars^H5982 of the court^H2691 round about^H5439, and their sockets^H134, and their pins^H3489, and their cords^H4340.

³⁸ Those who encamp before the tabernacle eastward, in front of the Tent of Meeting toward the sunrise, shall be Moses, with Aaron and his sons, keeping the requirements of the sanctuary for the duty of the children of Israel. The outsider who comes near shall be put to death.

KJVBut those that encamp^H2583^(H8802) before^H6440 the tabernacle^H4908 toward the east^H6924, even before^H6440 the tabernacle^H168 of the congregation^H4150 eastward^H4217, shall be Moses^H4872, and Aaron^H175 and his sons^H1121, keeping^H8104^(H8802) the charge^H4931 of the sanctuary^H4720 for the charge^H4931 of the children^H1121 of Israel^H3478; and the stranger^H2114^(H8801) that cometh nigh^H7131 shall be put to death^H4191^(H8714).

³⁹ All who were counted of the Levites, whom Moses and Aaron counted at the commandment of Yahweh, by their families, all the males from a month old and upward, were twenty-two thousand.

⁴⁰ Yahweh said to Moses, “Count all the firstborn males of the children of Israel from a month old and upward, and take the number of their names.

KJVAnd the LORD^H3068 said^H559^(H8799) unto Moses^H4872, Number^H6485^(H8798) all the firstborn^H1060 of the males^H2145 of the children^H1121 of Israel^H3478 from a month^H2320 old^H1121 and upward^H4605, and take^H5375^(H8798) the number^H4557 of their names^H8034.

⁴¹ You shall take the Levites for me—I am Yahweh—instead of all the firstborn among the children of Israel; and the livestock of the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the livestock of the children of Israel.”

⁴² Moses counted, as Yahweh commanded him, all the firstborn among the children of Israel.

⁴³ All the firstborn males according to the number of names from a month old and upward, of those who were counted of them, were twenty-two thousand two hundred seventy-three.

KJVAnd all the firstborn^H1060 males^H2145 by the number^H4557 of names^H8034, from a month^H2320 old^H1121 and upward^H4605, of those that were numbered^H6485^(H8803) of them, were twenty^H6242 and two^H8147 thousand^H505 two hundred^H3967 and threescore and thirteen^H7657^H7969.

⁴⁴ Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

KJVAnd the LORD^H3068 spake^H1696^(H8762) unto Moses^H4872, saying^H559^(H8800),

⁴⁵ “Take the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the children of Israel, and the livestock of the Levites instead of their livestock; and the Levites shall be mine. I am Yahweh.

KJVTake^H3947^(H8798) the Levites^H3881 instead of all the firstborn^H1060 among the children^H1121 of Israel^H3478, and the cattle^H929 of the Levites^H3881 instead of their cattle^H929; and the Levites^H3881 shall be mine: I am the LORD^H3068.

⁴⁶ For the redemption of the two hundred seventy-three of the firstborn of the children of Israel who exceed the number of the Levites,

KJVAnd for those that are to be redeemed^H6302 of the two hundred^H3967 and threescore and thirteen^H7657^H7969 of the firstborn^H1060 of the children^H1121 of Israel^H3478, which are more^H5736^(H8802) than^H5921 the Levites^H3881;

⁴⁷ you shall take five shekels apiece for each one; according to the shekel of the sanctuary you shall take them (the shekel is twenty gerahs);

KJVThou shalt even take^H3947^(H8804) five^H2568 shekels^H8255 apiece by the poll^H1538, after the shekel^H8255 of the sanctuary^H6944 shalt thou take^H3947^(H8799) them:(the shekel^H8255 is twenty^H6242 gerahs^H1626:)

⁴⁸ and you shall give the money, with which their remainder is redeemed, to Aaron and to his sons.”

⁴⁹ Moses took the redemption money from those who exceeded the number of those who were redeemed by the Levites;

KJVAnd Moses^H4872 took^H3947^(H8799) the redemption^H6306 money^H3701 of them that were over^H5736^(H8802) and above them that were redeemed^H6302 by the Levites^H3881:

⁵⁰ from the firstborn of the children of Israel he took the money, one thousand three hundred sixty-five shekels, according to the shekel of the sanctuary;

⁵¹ and Moses gave the redemption money to Aaron and to his sons, according to Yahweh’s word, as Yahweh commanded Moses.

² “The children of Israel shall encamp every man by his own standard, with the banners of their fathers’ houses. They shall encamp around the Tent of Meeting at a distance from it.

⁴ His division, and those who were counted of them, were seventy-four thousand six hundred.

⁵ “Those who encamp next to him shall be the tribe of Issachar. The prince of the children of Issachar shall be Nethanel the son of Zuar.

⁷ “The tribe of Zebulun: the prince of the children of Zebulun shall be Eliab the son of Helon.

⁸ His division, and those who were counted of it, were fifty-seven thousand four hundred.

⁹ “All who were counted of the camp of Judah were one hundred eighty-six thousand four hundred, according to their divisions. They shall set out first.

¹⁰ “On the south side shall be the standard of the camp of Reuben according to their divisions. The prince of the children of Reuben shall be Elizur the son of Shedeur.

¹² “Those who encamp next to him shall be the tribe of Simeon. The prince of the children of Simeon shall be Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai.

¹⁴ “The tribe of Gad: the prince of the children of Gad shall be Eliasaph the son of Reuel.

¹⁶ “All who were counted of the camp of Reuben were one hundred fifty-one thousand four hundred fifty, according to their armies. They shall set out second.

¹⁷ “Then the Tent of Meeting shall set out, with the camp of the Levites in the middle of the camps. As they encamp, so shall they set out, every man in his place, by their standards.

¹⁸ “On the west side shall be the standard of the camp of Ephraim according to their divisions. The prince of the children of Ephraim shall be Elishama the son of Ammihud.
