Acts 15
1And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.
KJVAndG2532 certain menG5100 which came downG2718(G5631) fromG575 JudaeaG2449 taughtG1321(G5707) the brethrenG80, and said,G3754 ExceptG3362 ye be circumcisedG4059(G5747) after the mannerG1485 of MosesG3475, ye cannotG3756G1410(G5736) be savedG4982(G5683).
2 When therefore Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and disputation with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question.
KJVWhen thereforeG3767 PaulG3972 andG2532 BarnabasG921 hadG1096(G5637) noG3756 smallG3641 dissensionG4714 andG2532 disputationG4803 withG4314 themG846, they determinedG5021(G5656) that PaulG3972 andG2532 BarnabasG921, andG2532 certainG5100 otherG243 ofG1537 themG846, should go upG305(G5721) toG1519 JerusalemG2419 untoG4314 the apostlesG652 andG2532 eldersG4245 aboutG4012 thisG5127 questionG2213.
3 And being brought on their way by the church, they passed through Phenice and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy unto all the brethren.
KJVAndG3303G3767 being brought on their wayG4311(G5685) byG5259 the churchG1577, they passed throughG1330(G5711) PheniceG5403 andG2532 SamariaG4540, declaringG1555(G5740) the conversionG1995 of the GentilesG1484: andG2532 they causedG4160(G5707) greatG3173 joyG5479 unto allG3956 the brethrenG80.
4 And when they were come to Jerusalem, they were received of the church, and of the apostles and elders, and they declared all things that God had done with them.
KJVAndG1161 when they were comeG3854(G5637) toG1519 JerusalemG2419, they were receivedG588(G5681) ofG5259 the churchG1577, andG2532 of the apostlesG652 andG2532 eldersG4245, andG5037 they declaredG312(G5656) all thingsG3745 that GodG2316 had doneG4160(G5656) withG3326 themG846.
5 But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.
KJVButG1161 there rose upG1817(G5627) certainG5100 ofG575 the sectG139 of the PhariseesG5330 which believedG4100(G5761), sayingG3004(G5723), ThatG3754 it was needfulG1163(G5748) to circumciseG4059(G5721) themG846, andG5037 to commandG3853(G5721) them to keepG5083(G5721) the lawG3551 of MosesG3475.
6 And the apostles and elders came together for to consider of this matter.
KJVAndG1161 the apostlesG652 andG2532 eldersG4245 came togetherG4863(G5681) for to considerG1492(G5629) ofG4012 thisG5127 matterG3056.
7 And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.
KJVAndG1161 when there had beenG1096(G5637) muchG4183 disputingG4803, PeterG4074 rose upG450(G5631), and saidG2036(G5627) untoG4314 themG846, MenG435 and brethrenG80, yeG5210 knowG1987(G5736) how thatG3754 a goodG744 whileG2250 agoG575 GodG2316 made choiceG1586(G5668) amongG1722 usG2254, that the GentilesG1484 byG1223 myG3450 mouthG4750 should hearG191(G5658) the wordG3056 of the gospelG2098, andG2532 believeG4100(G5658).
8 And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us;
KJVAndG2532 GodG2316, which knoweth the heartsG2589, bare themG846 witnessG3140(G5656), givingG1325(G5631) themG846 the HolyG40 GhostG4151, evenG2532 asG2531 he did unto usG2254;
9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.
KJVAndG2532 putG1252 noG3762 differenceG1252(G5656) betweenG3342G5037 usG2257 andG2532 themG846, purifyingG2511(G5660) theirG846 heartsG2588 by faithG4102.
10 Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?
KJVNowG3568 thereforeG3767 whyG5101 tempt yeG3985(G5719) GodG2316, to putG2007(G5629) a yokeG2218 uponG1909 the neckG5137 of the disciplesG3101, whichG3739 neitherG3777 ourG2257 fathersG3962 norG3777 weG2249 were ableG2480(G5656) to bearG941(G5658)?
11 But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.
KJVButG235 we believeG4100(G5719) that throughG1223 the graceG5485 of the LordG2962 JesusG2424 ChristG5547 we shall be savedG4982(G5683), evenG2596G3739 asG5158 theyG2548.
12 Then all the multitude kept silence, and gave audience to Barnabas and Paul, declaring what miracles and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles by them.
KJVThenG1161 allG3956 the multitudeG4128 kept silenceG4601(G5656), andG2532 gave audienceG191(G5707) to BarnabasG921 andG2532 PaulG3972, declaringG1834(G5740) whatG3745 miraclesG4592 andG2532 wondersG5059 GodG2316 had wroughtG4160(G5656) amongG1722 the GentilesG1484 byG1223 themG846.
13 And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me:
KJVAndG1161 afterG3326 they had heldG4601 theirG846 peaceG4601(G5658), JamesG2385 answeredG611(G5662), sayingG3004(G5723), MenG435 and brethrenG80, hearkenG191(G5657) unto meG3450:
14 Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name.
KJVSimeonG4826 hath declaredG1834(G5662) howG2531 GodG2316 at the firstG4412 did visitG1980(G5662) the GentilesG1484, to takeG2983(G5629) out ofG1537 them a peopleG2992 forG1909 hisG846 nameG3686.
15 And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written,
KJVAndG2532 to thisG5129 agreeG4856(G5719) the wordsG3056 of the prophetsG4396; asG2531 it is writtenG1125(G5769),
16 After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up:
KJVAfterG3326 thisG5023 I will returnG390(G5692), andG2532 will build againG456(G5692) the tabernacleG4633 of DavidG1138, whichG3588 is fallen downG4098(G5761); andG2532 I will build againG456(G5692) the ruinsG2679(G5772) thereofG846, andG2532 I will setG461 itG846 upG461(G5692):
17 That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.
KJVThatG3704G302 the residueG2645 of menG444 might seek afterG1567(G5661) the LordG2962, andG2532 allG3956 the GentilesG1484, uponG1909 whomG3739 myG3450 nameG3686 is calledG1941(G5769)G1909G846, saithG3004(G5719) the LordG2962, whoG3588 doethG4160(G5723) allG3956 these thingsG5023.
18 Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.
KJVKnownG1110 unto GodG2316 areG2076(G5748) allG3956 hisG846 worksG2041 fromG575 the beginning of the worldG165.
19 Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God:
KJVWhereforeG1352 myG1473 sentence isG2919(G5719), that we troubleG3926(G5721) notG3361 them, whichG3588 from amongG575 the GentilesG1484 are turnedG1994(G5723) toG1909 GodG2316:
20 But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.
KJVButG235 that we writeG1989(G5658) unto themG846, that they abstainG567(G5733) fromG575 pollutionsG234 of idolsG1497, andG2532 from fornicationG4202, andG2532 from things strangledG4156, andG2532 from bloodG129.
21 For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day.
KJVForG1063 MosesG3475 ofG1537 oldG744 timeG1074 hathG2192(G5719) in everyG2596 cityG4172 them that preachG2784(G5723) himG846, being readG314(G5746) inG1722 the synagoguesG4864 everyG2596G3956 sabbath dayG4521.
22 Then pleased it the apostles and elders, with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; namely, Judas surnamed Barsabas, and Silas, chief men among the brethren:
KJVThenG5119 pleased itG1380(G5656) the apostlesG652 andG2532 eldersG4245, withG4862 the wholeG3650 churchG1577, to sendG3992(G5658) chosenG1586(G5671) menG435 ofG1537 their own companyG846 toG1519 AntiochG490 withG4862 PaulG3972 andG2532 BarnabasG921; namely, JudasG2455 surnamedG1941(G5746) BarsabasG923, andG2532 SilasG4609, chiefG2233(G5740) menG435 amongG1722 the brethrenG80:
23 And they wrote letters by them after this manner; The apostles and elders and brethren send greeting unto the brethren which are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia:
KJVAnd they wroteG1125(G5660) letters byG1223 themG5495G846 after this mannerG3592; The apostlesG652 andG2532 eldersG4245 andG2532 brethrenG80 send greetingG5463(G5721) unto the brethrenG80 whichG3588 are ofG1537 the GentilesG1484 inG2596 AntiochG490 andG2532 SyriaG4947 andG2532 CiliciaG2791:
24 Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:
KJVForasmuch asG1894 we have heardG191(G5656), thatG3754 certainG5100 which went outG1831(G5631) fromG1537 usG2257 have troubledG5015(G5656) youG5209 with wordsG3056, subvertingG384(G5723) yourG5216 soulsG5590, sayingG3004(G5723), Ye must be circumcisedG4059(G5745), andG2532 keepG5083(G5721) the lawG3551: to whomG3739 we gaveG1291 noG3756 such commandmentG1291(G5668):
25 It seemed good unto us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men unto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,
KJVIt seemed goodG1380(G5656) unto usG2254, being assembledG1096(G5637) with one accordG3661, to sendG3992(G5658) chosenG1586(G5671) menG435 untoG4314 youG5209 withG4862 ourG2257 belovedG27 BarnabasG921 andG2532 PaulG3972,
26 Men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
KJVMenG444 that have hazardedG3860(G5761) theirG846 livesG5590 forG5228 the nameG3686 of ourG2257 LordG2962 JesusG2424 ChristG5547.
27 We have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who shall also tell you the same things by mouth.
KJVWe have sentG649(G5758) thereforeG3767 JudasG2455 andG2532 SilasG4609, whoG846 shallG518 alsoG2532 tellG518(G5723) you the same thingsG846 byG1223 mouthG3056.
28 For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;
KJVForG1063 it seemed goodG1380(G5656) to the HolyG40 GhostG4151, andG2532 to usG2254, to lay uponG2007(G5733) youG5213 noG3367 greaterG4119 burdenG922 thanG4133 theseG5130 necessary thingsG1876;
29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.
KJVThat ye abstainG567(G5733) from meats offered to idolsG1494, andG2532 from bloodG129, andG2532 from things strangledG4156, andG2532 from fornicationG4202: fromG1537 whichG3739 if ye keepG1301(G5723) yourselvesG1438, ye shall doG4238(G5692) wellG2095. Fare ye wellG4517(G5770).
30 So when they were dismissed, they came to Antioch: and when they had gathered the multitude together, they delivered the epistle:
KJVSoG3303G3767 when they were dismissedG630(G5685), they cameG2064(G5627) toG1519 AntiochG490: andG2532 when they had gatheredG4863 the multitudeG4128 togetherG4863(G5631), they deliveredG1929(G5656) the epistleG1992:
31 Which when they had read, they rejoiced for the consolation.
KJVWhich whenG1161 they had readG314(G5631), they rejoicedG5463(G5644) forG1909 the consolationG3874.
32 And Judas and Silas, being prophets also themselves, exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed them.
KJVAnd JudasG2455 andG2532 SilasG4609, beingG5607(G5752) prophetsG4396 alsoG2532 themselvesG846, exhortedG3870(G5656) the brethrenG80 withG1223 manyG4183 wordsG3056, andG2532 confirmedG1991(G5656) them.
33 And after they had tarried there a space, they were let go in peace from the brethren unto the apostles.
KJVAndG1161 after they had tarriedG4160(G5660) there a spaceG5550, they were let goG630(G5681) inG3326 peaceG1515 fromG575 the brethrenG80 untoG4314 the apostlesG652.
34 Notwithstanding it pleased Silas to abide there still.
KJVNotwithstandingG1161 it pleasedG1380(G5656) SilasG4609 to abideG1961 thereG847 stillG1961(G5658).
35 Paul also and Barnabas continued in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also.
KJVPaulG3972 alsoG1161 andG2532 BarnabasG921 continuedG1304(G5707) inG1722 AntiochG490, teachingG1321(G5723) andG2532 preachingG2097(G5734) the wordG3056 of the LordG2962, withG3326 manyG4183 othersG2087 alsoG2532.
36 And some days after Paul said unto Barnabas, Let us go again and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they do.
KJVAndG1161 someG5100 daysG2250 afterG3326 PaulG3972 saidG2036(G5627) untoG4314 BarnabasG921,G1211 Let us go againG1994(G5660) and visitG1980(G5667) ourG2257 brethrenG80 inG2596 everyG3956 cityG4172 whereG1722G3739 we have preachedG2605(G5656) the wordG3056 of the LordG2962, and see howG4459 they doG2192(G5719).
37 And Barnabas determined to take with them John, whose surname was Mark.
KJVAndG1161 BarnabasG921 determinedG1011(G5662) to take with themG4838(G5629) JohnG2491, whose surname wasG2564(G5746) MarkG3138.
38 But Paul thought not good to take him with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work.
KJVButG1161 PaulG3972 thoughtG515 notG3361 goodG515(G5707) to takeG4838 himG5126 with themG4838(G5629), whoG3588 departedG868(G5631) fromG575 themG846 fromG575 PamphyliaG3828, andG2532 wentG4905(G5631) notG3361 with themG846 toG1519 the workG2041.
39 And the contention was so sharp between them, that they departed asunder one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto Cyprus;
KJVAndG3767 the contentionG3948 wasG1096(G5633) so sharpG3948 between themG846, thatG5620 they departed asunderG673(G5683) one from the otherG575G240: and soG5037 BarnabasG921 tookG3880(G5631) MarkG3138, and sailedG1602(G5658) untoG1519 CyprusG2954;
40 And Paul chose Silas, and departed, being recommended by the brethren unto the grace of God.
KJVAndG1161 PaulG3972 choseG1951(G5671) SilasG4609, and departedG1831(G5627), being recommendedG3860(G5685) byG5259 the brethrenG80 unto the graceG5485 of GodG2316.
41 And he went through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the churches.
