Romans 13
WEB·Romans 13
1Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God.
KJVLet everyG3956 soulG5590 be subjectG5293(G5732) unto the higherG5242(G5723) powersG1849. ForG1063 there isG2076(G5748) noG3756 powerG1849 butG1508 ofG575 GodG2316:G1161 the powersG1849 that beG5607(G5752) areG1526(G5748) ordainedG5021(G5772) ofG5259 GodG2316.
2 Therefore he who resists the authority withstands the ordinance of God; and those who withstand will receive to themselves judgment.
KJVWhosoever thereforeG5620 resistethG498(G5734) the powerG1849, resistethG436(G5758) the ordinanceG1296 of GodG2316: andG1161 they that resistG436(G5761) shall receiveG2983(G5695) to themselvesG1438 damnationG2917.
3 For rulers are not a terror to the good work, but to the evil. Do you desire to have no fear of the authority? Do that which is good, and you will have praise from the authority,
KJVForG1063 rulersG758 areG1526(G5748) notG3756 a terrorG5401 to goodG18 worksG2041, butG235 to the evilG2556. Wilt thouG2309(G5719) thenG1161 notG3361 be afraidG5399(G5738) of the powerG1849? doG4160(G5720) that which is goodG18, andG2532 thou shalt haveG2192(G5692) praiseG1868 ofG1537 the sameG846:
4 for he is a servant of God to you for good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid, for he doesn’t bear the sword in vain; for he is a servant of God, an avenger for wrath to him who does evil.
KJVForG1063 he isG2076(G5748) the ministerG1249 of GodG2316 to theeG4671 forG1519 goodG18. ButG1161 ifG1437 thou doG4160(G5725) that which is evilG2556, be afraidG5399(G5737); forG1063 he bearethG5409(G5719) notG3756 the swordG3162 in vainG1500: forG1063 he isG2076(G5748) the ministerG1249 of GodG2316, a revengerG1558 to execute wrathG3709 uponG1519 him that doethG4238(G5723) evilG2556.
5 Therefore you need to be in subjection, not only because of the wrath, but also for conscience’ sake.
KJVWhereforeG1352 ye must needsG318 be subjectG5293(G5733), notG3756 onlyG3440 forG1223 wrathG3709, butG235 alsoG2532 for conscienceG4893 sakeG1223.
6 For this reason you also pay taxes, for they are servants of God’s service, continually doing this very thing.
KJVForG1063 forG1223 thisG5124 causeG1223 pay yeG5055(G5719) tributeG5411 alsoG2532: forG1063 they areG1526(G5748) God'sG2316 ministersG3011, attending continuallyG4342(G5723) uponG1519 thisG5124 very thingG846.
7 Therefore give everyone what you owe: if you owe taxes, pay taxes; if customs, then customs; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.
KJVRenderG591(G5628) thereforeG3767 to allG3956 their duesG3782: tributeG5411 to whomG3588 tributeG5411 is due; customG5056 to whomG3588 customG5056; fearG5401 to whomG3588 fearG5401; honourG5092 to whomG3588 honourG5092.
8 Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law.
KJVOweG3784(G5720) no manG3367 any thingG3367, butG1508 to loveG25(G5721) one anotherG240: forG1063 he that lovethG25(G5723) anotherG2087 hath fulfilledG4137(G5758) the lawG3551.
9 For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other commandments there are, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
KJVForG1063 this, Thou shaltG3431 notG3756 commit adulteryG3431(G5692), Thou shaltG5407 notG3756 killG5407(G5692), Thou shaltG2813 notG3756 stealG2813(G5692), Thou shaltG5576 notG3756 bear false witnessG5576(G5692), Thou shaltG1937 notG3756 covetG1937(G5692); andG2532 if there be anyG1536 otherG2087 commandmentG1785, it is briefly comprehendedG346(G5743) inG1722 thisG5129 sayingG3056, namelyG1722, Thou shalt loveG25(G5692) thyG4675 neighbourG4139 asG5613 thyselfG1438.
10 Love doesn’t harm a neighbor. Love therefore is the fulfillment of the law.
KJVLoveG26 workethG2038(G5736) noG3756 illG2556 to his neighbourG4139: thereforeG3767 loveG26 is the fulfillingG4138 of the lawG3551.
11 Do this, knowing the time, that it is already time for you to awaken out of sleep, for salvation is now nearer to us than when we first believed.
KJVAndG2532 thatG5124, knowingG1492(G5761) the timeG2540, thatG3754 nowG2235 it is high timeG5610 to awakeG2248G1453(G5683) out ofG1537 sleepG5258: forG1063 nowG3568 is ourG2257 salvationG4991 nearerG1452 thanG2228 whenG3753 we believedG4100(G5656).
12 The night is far gone, and the day is near. Let’s therefore throw off the deeds of darkness, and let’s put on the armor of light.
KJVThe nightG3571 is far spentG4298(G5656),G1161 the dayG2250 is at handG1448(G5758): let usG659 thereforeG3767 cast offG659(G5643) the worksG2041 of darknessG4655, andG2532 let us put onG1746(G5672) the armourG3696 of lightG5457.
13 Let’s walk properly, as in the day; not in reveling and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and lustful acts, and not in strife and jealousy.
KJVLet us walkG4043(G5661) honestlyG2156, asG5613 inG1722 the dayG2250; notG3361 in riotingG2970 andG2532 drunkennessG3178, notG3361 in chamberingG2845 andG2532 wantonnessG766, notG3361 in strifeG2054 andG2532 envyingG2205.
14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, for its lusts.
KJVButG235 put ye onG1746(G5669) the LordG2962 JesusG2424 ChristG5547, andG2532 makeG4160(G5732) notG3361 provisionG4307 forG1519 the fleshG4561, to fulfil the lustsG1939 thereof.
