¹You shall not see your brother’s ox or his sheep go astray and hide yourself from them. You shall surely bring them again to your brother.

² If your brother isn’t near to you, or if you don’t know him, then you shall bring it home to your house, and it shall be with you until your brother comes looking for it, and you shall restore it to him.

³ So you shall do with his donkey. So you shall do with his garment. So you shall do with every lost thing of your brother’s, which he has lost and you have found. You may not hide yourself.

⁴ You shall not see your brother’s donkey or his ox fallen down by the way, and hide yourself from them. You shall surely help him to lift them up again.

⁵ A woman shall not wear men’s clothing, neither shall a man put on women’s clothing; for whoever does these things is an abomination to Yahweh your God.

⁶ If you come across a bird’s nest on the way, in any tree or on the ground, with young ones or eggs, and the hen sitting on the young, or on the eggs, you shall not take the hen with the young.

⁷ You shall surely let the hen go, but the young you may take for yourself, that it may be well with you, and that you may prolong your days.

⁸ When you build a new house, then you shall make a railing around your roof, so that you don’t bring blood on your house if anyone falls from there.

⁹ You shall not sow your vineyard with two kinds of seed, lest all the fruit be defiled, the seed which you have sown, and the increase of the vineyard.

¹⁰ You shall not plow with an ox and a donkey together.

¹¹ You shall not wear clothes of wool and linen woven together.

¹² You shall make yourselves fringes on the four corners of your cloak with which you cover yourself.

KJVThou shalt make^H6213^(H8799) thee fringes^H1434 upon the four^H702 quarters^H3671 of thy vesture^H3682, wherewith thou coverest^H3680^(H8762) thyself.

¹³ If any man takes a wife, and goes in to her, hates her,

KJVIf any man^H376 take^H3947^(H8799) a wife^H802, and go in^H935^(H8804) unto her, and hate^H8130^(H8804) her,

¹⁴ accuses her of shameful things, gives her a bad name, and says, “I took this woman, and when I came near to her, I didn’t find in her the tokens of virginity;”

KJVAnd give^H7760^(H8804) occasions^H5949 of speech^H1697 against her, and bring up^H3318^(H8689) an evil^H7451 name^H8034 upon her, and say^H559^(H8804), I took^H3947^(H8804) this woman^H802, and when I came^H7126^(H8799) to her, I found^H4672^(H8804) her not a maid^H1331:

¹⁵ then the young lady’s father and mother shall take and bring the tokens of the young lady’s virginity to the elders of the city in the gate.

KJVThen shall the father^H1 of the damsel^H5291, and her mother^H517, take^H3947^(H8804) and bring forth^H3318^(H8689) the tokens of the damsel's^H5291 virginity^H1331 unto the elders^H2205 of the city^H5892 in the gate^H8179:

¹⁶ The young lady’s father shall tell the elders, “I gave my daughter to this man as his wife, and he hates her.

KJVAnd the damsel's^H5291 father^H1 shall say^H559^(H8804) unto the elders^H2205, I gave^H5414^(H8804) my daughter^H1323 unto this man^H376 to wife^H802, and he hateth^H8130^(H8799) her;

¹⁷ Behold, he has accused her of shameful things, saying, ‘I didn’t find in your daughter the tokens of virginity;’ and yet these are the tokens of my daughter’s virginity.” They shall spread the cloth before the elders of the city.

KJVAnd, lo, he hath given^H7760^(H8804) occasions^H5949 of speech^H1697 against her, saying^H559^(H8800), I found^H4672^(H8804) not thy daughter^H1323 a maid^H1331; and yet these are the tokens of my daughter's^H1323 virginity^H1331. ¹⁸ The elders of that city shall take the man and chastise him.

¹⁹ They shall fine him one hundred shekels of silver, and give them to the father of the young lady, because he has given a bad name to a virgin of Israel. She shall be his wife. He may not put her away all his days.

KJVAnd they shall amerce^H6064^(H8804) him in an hundred^H3967 shekels of silver^H3701, and give^H5414^(H8804) them unto the father^H1 of the damsel^H5291, because he hath brought up^H3318^(H8689) an evil^H7451 name^H8034 upon a virgin^H1330 of Israel^H3478: and she shall be his wife^H802; he may^H3201^(H8799) not put her away^H7971^(H8763) all his days^H3117.

²⁰ But if this thing is true, that the tokens of virginity were not found in the young lady,

²¹ then they shall bring out the young lady to the door of her father’s house, and the men of her city shall stone her to death with stones, because she has done folly in Israel, to play the prostitute in her father’s house. So you shall remove the evil from among you.

²² If a man is found lying with a woman married to a husband, then they shall both die, the man who lay with the woman and the woman. So you shall remove the evil from Israel.

KJVIf a man^H376 be found^H4672^(H8735) lying^H7901^(H8802) with a woman^H802 married^H1166^(H8803) to an husband^H1167, then they shall both of them^H8147 die^H4191^(H8804), both the man^H376 that lay^H7901^(H8802) with the woman^H802, and the woman^H802: so shalt thou put away^H1197^(H8765) evil^H7451 from Israel^H3478.

²³ If there is a young lady who is a virgin pledged to be married to a husband, and a man finds her in the city, and lies with her,

KJVIf a damsel^H5291 that is a virgin^H1330 be betrothed^H781^(H8794) unto an husband^H376, and a man^H376 find^H4672^(H8804) her in the city^H5892, and lie^H7901^(H8804) with her;

²⁴ then you shall bring them both out to the gate of that city, and you shall stone them to death with stones; the lady, because she didn’t cry, being in the city; and the man, because he has humbled his neighbor’s wife. So you shall remove the evil from among you.

²⁵ But if the man finds the lady who is pledged to be married in the field, and the man forces her and lies with her, then only the man who lay with her shall die;

²⁶ but to the lady you shall do nothing. There is in the lady no sin worthy of death; for as when a man rises against his neighbor and kills him, even so is this matter;

KJVBut unto the damsel^H5291 thou shalt do^H6213^(H8799) nothing^H1697; there is in the damsel^H5291 no sin^H2399 worthy of death^H4194: for as when a man^H376 riseth^H6965^(H8799) against his neighbour^H7453, and slayeth^H7523^(H8804)^(H8676)^H5315 him, even so is this matter^H1697:

²⁷ for he found her in the field, the pledged to be married lady cried, and there was no one to save her.

KJVFor he found^H4672^(H8804) her in the field^H7704, and the betrothed^H781^(H8794) damsel^H5291 cried^H6817^(H8804), and there was none to save^H3467^(H8688) her.

²⁸ If a man finds a lady who is a virgin, who is not pledged to be married, grabs her and lies with her, and they are found,

KJVIf a man^H376 find^H4672^(H8799) a damsel^H5291 that is a virgin^H1330, which is not betrothed^H781^(H8795), and lay hold^H8610^(H8804) on her, and lie^H7901^(H8804) with her, and they be found^H4672^(H8738);

²⁹ then the man who lay with her shall give to the lady’s father fifty shekels of silver. She shall be his wife, because he has humbled her. He may not put her away all his days.

KJVThen the man^H376 that lay^H7901^(H8802) with her shall give^H5414^(H8804) unto the damsel's^H5291 father^H1 fifty^H2572 shekels of silver^H3701, and she shall be his wife^H802; because he hath humbled^H6031^(H8765) her, he may^H3201^(H8799) not put her away^H7971^(H8763) all his days^H3117.

³⁰ A man shall not take his father’s wife, and shall not uncover his father’s skirt.

¹If someone is found slain in the land which Yahweh your God gives you to possess, lying in the field, and it isn’t known who has struck him,

KJVIf one be found^H4672^(H8735) slain^H2491 in the land^H127 which the LORD^H3068 thy God^H430 giveth^H5414^(H8802) thee to possess^H3423^(H8800) it, lying^H5307^(H8802) in the field^H7704, and it be not known^H3045^(H8738) who hath slain^H5221^(H8689) him:

² then your elders and your judges shall come out, and they shall measure to the cities which are around him who is slain.

KJVThen thy elders^H2205 and thy judges^H8199^(H8802) shall come forth^H3318^(H8804), and they shall measure^H4058^(H8804) unto the cities^H5892 which are round about^H5439 him that is slain^H2491:

³ It shall be that the elders of the city which is nearest to the slain man shall take a heifer of the herd, which hasn’t been worked with and which has not drawn in the yoke.

KJVAnd it shall be, that the city^H5892 which is next^H7138 unto the slain man^H2491, even the elders^H2205 of that city^H5892 shall take^H3947^(H8804) an heifer^H1241^H5697, which hath not been wrought with^H5647^(H8795), and which hath not drawn^H4900^(H8804) in the yoke^H5923;

⁴ The elders of that city shall bring the heifer down to a valley with running water, which is neither plowed nor sown, and shall break the heifer’s neck there in the valley.

KJVAnd the elders^H2205 of that city^H5892 shall bring down^H3381^(H8689) the heifer^H5697 unto a rough^H386 valley^H5158, which is neither eared^H5647^(H8735) nor sown^H2232^(H8735), and shall strike off^H6202 the heifer's^H5697 neck^H6202^(H8804) there in the valley^H5158:

⁵ The priests the sons of Levi shall come near, for them Yahweh your God has chosen to minister to him, and to bless in Yahweh’s name; and according to their word shall every controversy and every assault be decided.

KJVAnd the priests^H3548 the sons^H1121 of Levi^H3878 shall come near^H5066^(H8738); for them the LORD^H3068 thy God^H430 hath chosen^H977^(H8804) to minister^H8334^(H8763) unto him, and to bless^H1288^(H8763) in the name^H8034 of the LORD^H3068; and by their word^H6310 shall every controversy^H7379 and every stroke^H5061 be tried:

⁶ All the elders of that city which is nearest to the slain man shall wash their hands over the heifer whose neck was broken in the valley.

⁷ They shall answer and say, “Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen it.

⁸ Forgive, Yahweh, your people Israel, whom you have redeemed, and don’t allow innocent blood among your people Israel.” The blood shall be forgiven them.

KJVBe merciful^H3722^(H8761), O LORD^H3068, unto thy people^H5971 Israel^H3478, whom thou hast redeemed^H6299^(H8804), and lay^H5414^(H8799) not innocent^H5355 blood^H1818 unto thy people^H5971 of Israel's^H3478 charge^H7130. And the blood^H1818 shall be forgiven^H3722^(H8694) them.

⁹ So you shall put away the innocent blood from among you, when you shall do that which is right in Yahweh’s eyes.

KJVSo shalt thou put away^H1197^(H8762) the guilt of innocent^H5355 blood^H1818 from among^H7130 you, when thou shalt do^H6213^(H8799) that which is right^H3477 in the sight^H5869 of the LORD^H3068.

¹⁰ When you go out to battle against your enemies, and Yahweh your God delivers them into your hands and you carry them away captive,

KJVWhen thou goest forth^H3318^(H8799) to war^H4421 against thine enemies^H341^(H8802), and the LORD^H3068 thy God^H430 hath delivered^H5414^(H8804) them into thine hands^H3027, and thou hast taken^H7617^(H8804) them captive^H7628,

¹¹ and see among the captives a beautiful woman, and you are attracted to her, and desire to take her as your wife,

KJVAnd seest^H7200^(H8804) among the captives^H7633 a beautiful^H8389^H3303 woman^H802, and hast a desire^H2836^(H8804) unto her, that thou wouldest have her^H3947^(H8804) to thy wife^H802;

¹² then you shall bring her home to your house. She shall shave her head and trim her nails.

¹³ She shall take off the clothing of her captivity, and shall remain in your house, and bewail her father and her mother a full month. After that you shall go in to her and be her husband, and she shall be your wife.

¹⁴ It shall be, if you have no delight in her, then you shall let her go where she desires; but you shall not sell her at all for money. You shall not deal with her as a slave, because you have humbled her.

¹⁵ If a man has two wives, the one beloved and the other hated, and they have borne him children, both the beloved and the hated, and if the firstborn son is hers who was hated,

KJVIf a man^H376 have two^H8147 wives^H802, one^H259 beloved^H157^(H8803), and another^H259 hated^H8130^(H8803), and they have born^H3205^(H8804) him children^H1121, both the beloved^H157^(H8803) and the hated^H8130^(H8803); and if the firstborn^H1060 son^H1121 be hers that was hated^H8146:

¹⁶ then it shall be, in the day that he causes his sons to inherit that which he has, that he may not give the son of the beloved the rights of the firstborn before the son of the hated, who is the firstborn;

KJVThen it shall be, when^H3117 he maketh his sons^H1121 to inherit^H5157^(H8687) that which he hath, that he may^H3201^(H8799) not make the son^H1121 of the beloved^H157^(H8803) firstborn^H1069^(H8763) before^H6440 the son^H1121 of the hated^H8130^(H8803), which is indeed the firstborn^H1060:

¹⁷ but he shall acknowledge the firstborn, the son of the hated, by giving him a double portion of all that he has; for he is the beginning of his strength. The right of the firstborn is his.

¹⁸ If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey the voice of his father or the voice of his mother, and though they chasten him, will not listen to them,

KJVIf a man^H376 have a stubborn^H5637^(H8802) and rebellious^H4784^(H8802) son^H1121, which will not obey^H8085^(H8802) the voice^H6963 of his father^H1, or the voice^H6963 of his mother^H517, and that, when they have chastened^H3256^(H8765) him, will not hearken^H8085^(H8799) unto them:

¹⁹ then his father and his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his city and to the gate of his place.

KJVThen shall his father^H1 and his mother^H517 lay hold^H8610^(H8804) on him, and bring him out^H3318^(H8689) unto the elders^H2205 of his city^H5892, and unto the gate^H8179 of his place^H4725;

²⁰ They shall tell the elders of his city, “This our son is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey our voice. He is a glutton and a drunkard.”

²¹ All the men of his city shall stone him to death with stones. So you shall remove the evil from among you. All Israel shall hear, and fear.

²² If a man has committed a sin worthy of death, and he is put to death, and you hang him on a tree,

KJVAnd if a man^H376 have committed a sin^H2399 worthy of^H4941 death^H4194, and he be to be put to death^H4191^(H8717), and thou hang^H8518^(H8804) him on a tree^H6086:

²³ his body shall not remain all night on the tree, but you shall surely bury him the same day; for he who is hanged is accursed of God. Don’t defile your land which Yahweh your God gives you for an inheritance.
