Joshua 2
WEB·Joshua 2
1Joshua the son of Nun secretly sent two men out of Shittim as spies, saying, “Go, view the land, including Jericho.” They went and came into the house of a prostitute whose name was Rahab, and slept there.
KJVAnd JoshuaH3091 the sonH1121 of NunH5126 sentH7971(H8799) out of ShittimH7851 twoH8147 menH582 to spyH7270(H8764) secretlyH2791, sayingH559(H8800), GoH3212(H8798) viewH7200(H8798) the landH776, even JerichoH3405. And they wentH3212(H8799), and cameH935(H8799) into an harlot'sH2181(H8802) houseH802H1004, namedH8034 RahabH7343, and lodgedH7901(H8799) there.
2 The king of Jericho was told, “Behold, men of the children of Israel came in here tonight to spy out the land.”
KJVAnd it was toldH559(H8735) the kingH4428 of JerichoH3405, sayingH559(H8800), Behold, there cameH935(H8804) menH582 in hither to nightH3915 of the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 to search outH2658(H8800) the countryH776.
3 Jericho’s king sent to Rahab, saying, “Bring out the men who have come to you, who have entered into your house; for they have come to spy out all the land.”
KJVAnd the kingH4428 of JerichoH3405 sentH7971(H8799) unto RahabH7343, sayingH559(H8800), Bring forthH3318(H8685) the menH582 that are comeH935(H8802) to thee, which are enteredH935(H8804) into thine houseH1004: for they be comeH935(H8804) to search outH2658(H8800) all the countryH776.
4 The woman took the two men and hid them. Then she said, “Yes, the men came to me, but I didn’t know where they came from.
KJVAnd the womanH802 tookH3947(H8799) the twoH8147 menH582, and hidH6845(H8799) them, and saidH559(H8799) thus, There cameH935(H8804) menH582 unto me, but I wistH3045(H8804) not whenceH370 they were:
5 About the time of the shutting of the gate, when it was dark, the men went out. Where the men went, I don’t know. Pursue them quickly. You may catch up with them.”
KJVAnd it came to pass about the time of shuttingH5462(H8800) of the gateH8179, when it was darkH2822, that the menH582 went outH3318(H8804): whither the menH582 wentH1980(H8804) I wotH3045(H8804) not: pursueH7291(H8798) afterH310 them quicklyH4118; for ye shall overtakeH5381(H8686) them.
6 But she had brought them up to the roof, and hidden them under the stalks of flax which she had laid in order on the roof.
KJVBut she had brought them upH5927(H8689) to the roofH1406 of the house, and hidH2934(H8799) them with the stalksH6086 of flaxH6593, which she had laid in orderH6186(H8803) upon the roofH1406.
7 The men pursued them along the way to the fords of the Jordan River. As soon as those who pursued them had gone out, they shut the gate.
KJVAnd the menH582 pursuedH7291(H8804) afterH310 them the wayH1870 to JordanH3383 unto the fordsH4569: and as soon as they which pursuedH7291(H8802) afterH310 them were gone outH3318(H8804), they shutH5462(H8804) the gateH8179.
8 Before they had lain down, she came up to them on the roof.
KJVAnd before they were laid downH7901(H8799), she came upH5927(H8804) unto them upon the roofH1406;
9 She said to the men, “I know that Yahweh has given you the land, and that the fear of you has fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land melt away before you.
KJVAnd she saidH559(H8799) unto the menH582, I knowH3045(H8804) that the LORDH3068 hath givenH5414(H8804) you the landH776, and that your terrorH367 is fallenH5307(H8804) upon us, and that all the inhabitantsH3427(H8802) of the landH776 faintH4127(H8738) becauseH6440 of you.
10 For we have heard how Yahweh dried up the water of the Red Sea before you, when you came out of Egypt; and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites, who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon and to Og, whom you utterly destroyed.
KJVFor we have heardH8085(H8804) how the LORDH3068 dried upH3001(H8689) the waterH4325 of the RedH5488 seaH3220 for youH6440, when ye came outH3318(H8800) of EgyptH4714; and what ye didH6213(H8804) unto the twoH8147 kingsH4428 of the AmoritesH567, that were on the other sideH5676 JordanH3383, SihonH5511 and OgH5747, whom ye utterly destroyedH2763(H8689).
11 As soon as we had heard it, our hearts melted, and there wasn’t any more spirit in any man, because of you: for Yahweh your God, he is God in heaven above, and on earth beneath.
KJVAnd as soon as we had heardH8085(H8799) these things, our heartsH3824 did meltH4549(H8735), neither did there remainH6965(H8804) any more courageH7307 in any manH376, becauseH6440 of you: for the LORDH3068 your GodH430, he is GodH430 in heavenH8064 aboveH4605, and in earthH776 beneath.
12 Now therefore, please swear to me by Yahweh, since I have dealt kindly with you, that you also will deal kindly with my father’s house, and give me a true sign;
KJVNow therefore, I pray you, swearH7650(H8734) unto me by the LORDH3068, sinceH3588 I have shewedH6213(H8804) you kindnessH2617, that ye will also shewH6213(H8804) kindnessH2617 unto my father'sH1 houseH1004, and giveH5414(H8804) me a trueH571 tokenH226:
13 and that you will save alive my father, my mother, my brothers, and my sisters, and all that they have, and will deliver our lives from death.”
KJVAnd that ye will save aliveH2421(H8689) my fatherH1, and my motherH517, and my brethrenH251, and my sistersH269, and all that they have, and deliverH5337(H8689) our livesH5315 from deathH4194.
14 The men said to her, “Our life for yours, if you don’t talk about this business of ours; and it shall be, when Yahweh gives us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with you.”
KJVAnd the menH582 answeredH559(H8799) her, Our lifeH5315 for yoursH4191(H8800), if ye utterH5046(H8686) not this our businessH1697. And it shall be, when the LORDH3068 hath givenH5414(H8800) us the landH776, that we will dealH6213(H8804) kindlyH2617 and trulyH571 with thee.
15 Then she let them down by a cord through the window; for her house was on the side of the wall, and she lived on the wall.
KJVThen she let them downH3381(H8686) by a cordH2256 throughH1157 the windowH2474: for her houseH1004 was upon the townH7023 wallH2346, and she dweltH3427(H8802) upon the wallH2346.
16 She said to them, “Go to the mountain, lest the pursuers find you. Hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers have returned. Afterward, you may go your way.”
KJVAnd she saidH559(H8799) unto them, GetH3212(H8798) you to the mountainH2022, lest the pursuersH7291(H8802) meetH6293(H8799) you; and hideH2247(H8738) yourselves there threeH7969 daysH3117, until the pursuersH7291(H8802) be returnedH7725(H8800): and afterwardH310 may ye goH3212(H8799) your wayH1870.
17 The men said to her, “We will be guiltless of this your oath which you’ve made us to swear.
KJVAnd the menH582 saidH559(H8799) unto her, We will be blamelessH5355 of this thine oathH7621 which thou hast made us swearH7650(H8689).
18 Behold, when we come into the land, tie this line of scarlet thread in the window which you used to let us down. Gather to yourself into the house your father, your mother, your brothers, and all your father’s household.
KJVBehold, when we comeH935(H8802) into the landH776, thou shalt bindH7194(H8799) this lineH8615 of scarletH8144 threadH2339 in the windowH2474 which thou didst let us down byH3381(H8689): and thou shalt bringH622(H8799) thy fatherH1, and thy motherH517, and thy brethrenH251, and all thy father'sH1 householdH1004, homeH1004 unto thee.
19 It shall be that whoever goes out of the doors of your house into the street, his blood will be on his head, and we will be guiltless. Whoever is with you in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand is on him.
KJVAnd it shall be, that whosoeverH834 shall go outH3318(H8799) of the doorsH1817 of thy houseH1004 into the streetH2351, his bloodH1818 shall be upon his headH7218, and we will be guiltlessH5355: and whosoever shall be with thee in the houseH1004, his bloodH1818 shall be on our headH7218, if any handH3027 be upon him.
20 But if you talk about this business of ours, then we shall be guiltless of your oath which you’ve made us to swear.”
KJVAnd if thou utterH5046(H8686) this our businessH1697, then we will be quitH5355 of thine oathH7621 which thou hast made us to swearH7650(H8689).
21 She said, “Let it be as you have said.” She sent them away, and they departed. Then she tied the scarlet line in the window.
KJVAnd she saidH559(H8799), According unto your wordsH1697, so be it. And she sent them awayH7971(H8762), and they departedH3212(H8799): and she boundH7194(H8799) the scarletH8144 lineH8615 in the windowH2474.
22 They went and came to the mountain, and stayed there three days, until the pursuers had returned. The pursuers sought them all along the way, but didn’t find them.
KJVAnd they wentH3212(H8799), and cameH935(H8799) unto the mountainH2022, and abodeH3427(H8799) there threeH7969 daysH3117, until the pursuersH7291(H8802) were returnedH7725(H8804): and the pursuersH7291(H8802) soughtH1245(H8762) them throughout all the wayH1870, but foundH4672(H8804) them not.
23 Then the two men returned, descended from the mountain, crossed the river, and came to Joshua the son of Nun. They told him all that had happened to them.
KJVSo the twoH8147 menH582 returnedH7725(H8799), and descendedH3381(H8799) from the mountainH2022, and passed overH5674(H8799), and cameH935(H8799) to JoshuaH3091 the sonH1121 of NunH5126, and toldH5608(H8762) him all things that befellH4672(H8802) them:
24 They said to Joshua, “Truly Yahweh has delivered all the land into our hands. Moreover, all the inhabitants of the land melt away before us.”
KJVAnd they saidH559(H8799) unto JoshuaH3091, TrulyH3588 the LORDH3068 hath deliveredH5414(H8804) into our handsH3027 all the landH776; for even all the inhabitantsH3427(H8802) of the countryH776 do faintH4127(H8738) becauseH6440 of us.
