1 Peter 4
WEB·1 Peter 4
1Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind; for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,
KJVForasmuch then asG3767 ChristG5547 hath sufferedG3958(G5631) forG5228 usG2257 in the fleshG4561, armG3695(G5669) yourselvesG5210 likewiseG2532 with the sameG846 mindG1771: forG3754 he that hath sufferedG3958(G5631) inG1722 the fleshG4561 hath ceasedG3973(G5769) from sinG266;
2 that you no longer should live the rest of your time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.
KJVThatG1519 heG980 no longerG3371 should liveG980(G5658) the restG1954 of his timeG5550 inG1722 the fleshG4561 to the lustsG1939 of menG444, butG235 to the willG2307 of GodG2316.
3 For we have spent enough of our past time doing the desire of the Gentiles, and having walked in lewdness, lusts, drunken binges, orgies, carousings, and abominable idolatries.
KJVForG1063 the timeG5550 pastG3928(G5756) of our lifeG979 may sufficeG713 usG2254 to have wroughtG2716(G5664) the willG2307 of the GentilesG1484, when we walkedG4198(G5768) inG1722 lasciviousnessG766, lustsG1939, excess of wineG3632, revellingsG2970, banquetingsG4224, andG2532 abominableG111 idolatriesG1495:
4 They think it is strange that you don’t run with them into the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you.
KJVWhereinG1722G3739 they think it strangeG3579(G5743) that yeG5216 runG4936(G5723) notG3361 with them toG1519 the sameG846 excessG401 of riotG810, speaking evil ofG987(G5723) you:
5 They will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
KJVWhoG3739 shall giveG591(G5692) accountG3056 to him that isG2192(G5723) readyG2093 to judgeG2919(G5658) the quickG2198(G5723) andG2532 the deadG3498.
6 For to this end the Good News was preached even to the dead, that they might be judged indeed as men in the flesh, but live as to God in the spirit.
KJVForG1063 forG1519 this causeG5124 was the gospel preachedG2097(G5681) alsoG2532 to them that are deadG3498, thatG2443 they might be judgedG2919(G5686)G3303 according toG2596 menG444 in the fleshG4561, butG1161 liveG2198(G5725) according toG2596 GodG2316 in the spiritG4151.
7 But the end of all things is near. Therefore be of sound mind, self-controlled, and sober in prayer.
KJVButG1161 the endG5056 of all thingsG3956 is at handG1448(G5758): be yeG4993 thereforeG3767 soberG4993(G5657), andG2532 watchG3525(G5657) untoG1519 prayerG4335.
8 And above all things be earnest in your love among yourselves, for love covers a multitude of sins.
KJVAndG1161 aboveG4253 all thingsG3956 haveG2192(G5723) ferventG1618 charityG26 amongG1519 yourselvesG1438: forG3754 charityG26 shall coverG2572(G5692) the multitudeG4128 of sinsG266.
9 Be hospitable to one another without grumbling.
KJVUse hospitalityG5382 one to anotherG1519G240 withoutG427 grudgingG1112.
10 As each has received a gift, employ it in serving one another, as good managers of the grace of God in its various forms.
KJVAsG2531 every manG1538 hath receivedG2983(G5627) the giftG5486, even so ministerG1247(G5723) the sameG846 one to anotherG1519G1438, asG5613 goodG2570 stewardsG3623 of the manifoldG4164 graceG5485 of GodG2316.
11 If anyone speaks, let it be as it were the very words of God. If anyone serves, let it be as of the strength which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
KJVIf any manG1536 speakG2980(G5719), let him speak asG5613 the oraclesG3051 of GodG2316; if any manG1536 ministerG1247(G5719), let him do it asG5613 ofG1537 the abilityG2479 whichG3739 GodG2316 givethG5524(G5719): thatG2443 GodG2316 inG1722 all thingsG3956 may be glorifiedG1392(G5747) throughG1223 JesusG2424 ChristG5547, to whomG3739 beG2076(G5748) praiseG1391 andG2532 dominionG2904 forG1519 everG165 and everG165. AmenG281.
12 Beloved, don’t be astonished at the fiery trial which has come upon you to test you, as though a strange thing happened to you.
KJVBelovedG27, think itG3579 notG3361 strangeG3579(G5744) concerning theG5213 fiery trialG4451 whichG1722 isG1096(G5740) toG4314 tryG3986 youG5213, asG5613 though some strange thingG3581 happenedG4819(G5723) unto youG5213:
13 But because you are partakers of Christ’s sufferings, rejoice, that at the revelation of his glory you also may rejoice with exceeding joy.
KJVButG235 rejoiceG5463(G5720), inasmuch asG2526 ye are partakersG2841(G5719) of Christ'sG5547 sufferingsG3804; thatG2443, whenG1722 hisG846 gloryG1391 shall be revealedG602, ye may be gladG5463(G5647) alsoG2532 with exceeding joyG21(G5740).
14 If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. On their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified.
KJVIfG1487 ye be reproachedG3679(G5743) forG1722 the nameG3686 of ChristG5547, happyG3107 are ye; forG3754 the spiritG4151 of gloryG1391 andG2532 of GodG2316 restethG373(G5731) uponG1909 youG5209: onG2596G3303 their partG846 he is evil spoken ofG987(G5743), butG1161 onG2596 your partG5209 he is glorifiedG1392(G5743).
15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evil doer, or a meddler in other men’s matters.
KJVButG1063 letG3958 noneG3361G5100 of youG5216 sufferG3958(G5720) asG5613 a murdererG5406, orG2228 as a thiefG2812, orG2228 as an evildoerG2555, orG2228 asG5613 a busybody in other men's mattersG244.
16 But if one of you suffers for being a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God in this matter.
KJVYetG1161 ifG1487 any man suffer asG5613 a ChristianG5546, let himG153 notG3361 be ashamedG153(G5744); butG1161 let him glorifyG1392(G5720) GodG2316 onG1722 thisG5129 behalfG3313.
17 For the time has come for judgment to begin with the household of God. If it begins first with us, what will happen to those who don’t obey the Good News of God?
KJVForG3754 the timeG2540 is come that judgmentG2917 must beginG756(G5670) atG575 the houseG3624 of GodG2316: andG1161 ifG1487 it firstG4412 begin atG575 usG2257, whatG5101 shall the endG5056 be of them that obey notG544(G5723) the gospelG2098 of GodG2316?
18 “If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will happen to the ungodly and the sinner?”
KJVAndG2532 ifG1487 the righteousG1342 scarcelyG3433 be savedG4982(G5743), whereG4226 shallG5316 the ungodlyG765 andG2532 the sinnerG268 appearG5316(G5695)?
19 Therefore let them also who suffer according to the will of God in doing good entrust their souls to him, as to a faithful Creator.
KJVWhereforeG5620G2532 letG3908 them that sufferG3958(G5723) according toG2596 the willG2307 of GodG2316 commit the keepingG3908(G5744) of theirG1438 soulsG5590 to him inG1722 well doingG16, asG5613 unto a faithfulG4103 CreatorG2939.
