1 Samuel 6

WEB·1 Samuel 6
1Yahweh’s ark was in the country of the Philistines seven months.
KJVAnd the arkH727 of the LORDH3068 was in the countryH7704 of the PhilistinesH6430 sevenH7651 monthsH2320.
2 The Philistines called for the priests and the diviners, saying, “What shall we do with Yahweh’s ark? Show us how we should send it to its place.”
KJVAnd the PhilistinesH6430 calledH7121(H8799) for the priestsH3548 and the divinersH7080(H8802), sayingH559(H8800), What shall we doH6213(H8799) to the arkH727 of the LORDH3068? tellH3045(H8685) us wherewith we shall sendH7971(H8762) it to his placeH4725.
3 They said, “If you send away the ark of the God of Israel, don’t send it empty; but by all means return a trespass offering to him. Then you will be healed, and it will be known to you why his hand is not removed from you.”
KJVAnd they saidH559(H8799), If ye send awayH7971(H8764) the arkH727 of the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, sendH7971(H8762) it not emptyH7387; but in any wiseH7725(H8687) returnH7725(H8686) him a trespass offeringH817: then ye shall be healedH7495(H8735), and it shall be knownH3045(H8738) to you why his handH3027 is not removedH5493(H8799) from you.
4 Then they said, “What should the trespass offering be which we shall return to him?” They said, “Five golden tumors and five golden mice, for the number of the lords of the Philistines; for one plague was on you all, and on your lords.
KJVThen saidH559(H8799) they, What shall be the trespass offeringH817 which we shall returnH7725(H8686) to him? They answeredH559(H8799), FiveH2568 goldenH2091 emerodsH2914(H8675)H6076, and fiveH2568 goldenH2091 miceH5909, according to the numberH4557 of the lordsH5633 of the PhilistinesH6430: for oneH259 plagueH4046 was on you all, and on your lordsH5633.
5 Therefore you shall make images of your tumors and images of your mice that mar the land; and you shall give glory to the God of Israel. Perhaps he will release his hand from you, from your gods, and from your land.
KJVWherefore ye shall makeH6213(H8804) imagesH6754 of your emerodsH2914(H8675)H6076, and imagesH6754 of your miceH5909 that marH7843(H8688) the landH776; and ye shall giveH5414(H8804) gloryH3519 unto the GodH430 of IsraelH3478: peradventure he will lightenH7043(H8686) his handH3027 from off you, and from off your godsH430, and from off your landH776.
6 Why then do you harden your hearts as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened their hearts? When he had worked wonderfully among them, didn’t they let the people go, and they departed?
KJVWherefore then do ye hardenH3513(H8762) your heartsH3824, as the EgyptiansH4714 and PharaohH6547 hardenedH3513(H8765) their heartsH3820? when he had wrought wonderfullyH5953(H8694) among them, did they not let the people goH7971(H8762), and they departedH3212(H8799)?
7 “Now therefore take and prepare yourselves a new cart and two milk cows on which there has come no yoke; and tie the cows to the cart, and bring their calves home from them;
KJVNow therefore makeH6213(H8798) aH259 newH2319 cartH5699, and takeH3947(H8798) twoH8147 milchH5763(H8802) kineH6510, on which there hath comeH5927(H8804) no yokeH5923, and tieH631(H8804) the kineH6510 to the cartH5699, and bringH7725(H8689) their calvesH1121 homeH1004 from themH310:
8 and take Yahweh’s ark and lay it on the cart. Put the jewels of gold, which you return him for a trespass offering, in a box by its side; and send it away, that it may go.
KJVAnd takeH3947(H8804) the arkH727 of the LORDH3068, and layH5414(H8804) it upon the cartH5699; and putH7760(H8799) the jewelsH3627 of goldH2091, which ye returnH7725(H8689) him for a trespass offeringH817, in a cofferH712 by the sideH6654 thereof; and send it awayH7971(H8765), that it may goH1980(H8804).
9 Behold, if it goes up by the way of its own border to Beth Shemesh, then he has done us this great evil; but if not, then we shall know that it is not his hand that struck us. It was a chance that happened to us.”
KJVAnd seeH7200(H8804), if it goeth upH5927(H8799) by the wayH1870 of his own coastH1366 to BethshemeshH1053, then he hath doneH6213(H8804) us this greatH1419 evilH7451: but if not, then we shall knowH3045(H8804) that it is not his handH3027 that smoteH5060(H8804) us: it was a chanceH4745 that happened to usH1961(H8804).
10 The men did so, and took two milk cows and tied them to the cart, and shut up their calves at home.
KJVAnd the menH582 did soH6213(H8799); and tookH3947(H8799) twoH8147 milchH5763(H8802) kineH6510, and tiedH631(H8799) them to the cartH5699, and shut upH3607(H8804) their calvesH1121 at homeH1004:
11 They put Yahweh’s ark on the cart, and the box with the golden mice and the images of their tumors.
KJVAnd they laidH7760(H8799) the arkH727 of the LORDH3068 upon the cartH5699, and the cofferH712 with the miceH5909 of goldH2091 and the imagesH6754 of their emerodsH2914.
12 The cows took the straight way by the way to Beth Shemesh. They went along the highway, lowing as they went, and didn’t turn away to the right hand or to the left; and the lords of the Philistines went after them to the border of Beth Shemesh.
KJVAnd the kineH6510 took the straightH3474(H8799) wayH1870 to the wayH1870 of BethshemeshH1053, and went alongH1980(H8804) the highwayH4546H259, lowingH1600(H8800) as they wentH1980(H8800), and turned not asideH5493(H8804) to the right handH3225 or to the leftH8040; and the lordsH5633 of the PhilistinesH6430 wentH1980(H8802) afterH310 them unto the borderH1366 of BethshemeshH1053.
13 The people of Beth Shemesh were reaping their wheat harvest in the valley; and they lifted up their eyes and saw the ark, and rejoiced to see it.
KJVAnd they of BethshemeshH1053 were reapingH7114(H8802) their wheatH2406 harvestH7105 in the valleyH6010: and they lifted upH5375(H8799) their eyesH5869, and sawH7200(H8799) the arkH727, and rejoicedH8055(H8799) to seeH7200(H8800) it.
14 The cart came into the field of Joshua of Beth Shemesh, and stood there, where there was a great stone. Then they split the wood of the cart and offered up the cows for a burnt offering to Yahweh.
KJVAnd the cartH5699 cameH935(H8802) into the fieldH7704 of JoshuaH3091, a BethshemiteH1030, and stoodH5975(H8799) there, where there was a greatH1419 stoneH68: and they claveH1234(H8762) the woodH6086 of the cartH5699, and offeredH5927(H8689) the kineH6510 a burnt offeringH5930 unto the LORDH3068.
15 The Levites took down Yahweh’s ark and the box that was with it, in which the jewels of gold were, and put them on the great stone; and the men of Beth Shemesh offered burnt offerings and sacrificed sacrifices the same day to Yahweh.

17 These are the golden tumors which the Philistines returned for a trespass offering to Yahweh: for Ashdod one, for Gaza one, for Ashkelon one, for Gath one, for Ekron one;
KJVAnd these are the goldenH2091 emerodsH2914 which the PhilistinesH6430 returnedH7725(H8689) for a trespass offeringH817 unto the LORDH3068; for AshdodH795 oneH259, for GazaH5804 oneH259, for AskelonH831 oneH259, for GathH1661 oneH259, for EkronH6138 oneH259;
18 and the golden mice, according to the number of all the cities of the Philistines belonging to the five lords, both of fortified cities and of country villages, even to the great stone on which they set down Yahweh’s ark. That stone remains to this day in the field of Joshua of Beth Shemesh.
