The Woman on the Scarlet Beast
Revelation 17:1-3

A bowl-angel shows the judgment of the great prostitute — the anti-bride seated on many waters, drunk kings beneath her, riding the beast in the wilderness.
One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and spoke with me, saying, "Come here. I will show you the judgment of the great prostitute who sits on many waters, with whom the kings of the earth committed sexual immorality. Those who dwell in the earth were made drunken with the wine of her sexual immorality."
The bowls have fallen; now one of the very angels who poured them becomes the guide to why — the book pauses its chronology to walk the reader through Babylon's identity and autopsy, and the same angelic office will later show the bride Revelation 21:9: one order of angels, two women, the book's deliberate parallel. The subject is announced as the judgment of the great prostitute — the verdict already executed Revelation 16:19, now explained.
Her titles assemble the prophets' whole case-file. She sits on many waters — Babylon's own address in Jeremiah, you who dwell on many waters, abundant in treasures, your end has come Jeremiah 51:13 — waters the vision will decode as the peoples of the world Revelation 17:15: a power enthroned on populations. The kings of the earth committed immorality with her — the prophets' term for covenant faithlessness Ezekiel 16:15 Hosea 4:12 applied to a religious system in bed with state power: church courting throne, the exact inversion of the bride kept for the Lamb Revelation 14:4 2 Corinthians 11:2. And the earth's dwellers are drunken with her wine Revelation 14:8 Jeremiah 51:7 — her doctrine as stupefaction, the nations' judgment dissolved in the cup.
He carried me away in the Spirit into a wilderness Revelation 17:3 — the third of the four transports Revelation 1:10 Revelation 4:2 Revelation 21:10, and the venue is loaded: the wilderness is where the pure woman was nourished through the era Revelation 12:6 Revelation 12:14. From the true woman's refuge, the seer watches the false woman ride.
I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet-colored animal, full of blasphemous names, having seven heads and ten horns.
The mount is the sea beast in its late scarlet — the dragon's anatomy Revelation 12:3, the blasphemous names now covering the whole hide Revelation 13:1 — and the arrangement is the vision's thesis: the woman rides the beast. Religious Babylon seated on civil power, steering it, borne by it — the alliance of altar and sword that the whole era's persecutions ran on Revelation 13:15 Revelation 17:6 — an arrangement as unstable as it looks, for the beast that carries her will, in this same chapter, turn and devour her Revelation 17:16.
