The Great White Throne
Revelation 20:11-15
11 I saw a great white throne and him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the sky fled away. There was found no place for them. · WEB
Earth and sky flee the face, the books and the book divide the judgment, every holding place surrenders its dead — and death itself dies.

The last courtroom needs no architecture but the throne itself — great, white: purity as jurisdiction — and the face before which creation has been flinching all book long Revelation 6:16 now simply outshines its stage: earth and sky fled away... no place for them — the sixth seal's dissolution completed Revelation 6:14 Revelation 16:20, the first creation standing down before the verdicts that precede the new one Revelation 21:1.
I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and they opened books. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged out of the things which were written in the books, according to their works Revelation 20:12.
The scene is Daniel's court verbatim — the judgment was set, and the books were opened Daniel 7:10 — and the instruments are two kinds of record. Books, plural: the archives of lives, every work written Malachi 3:16 Ecclesiastes 12:14 — judgment according to works, the only honest basis a court can have, twice stated Revelation 20:13. And another book... the book of life Revelation 3:5 Revelation 13:8: the register of the redeemed, running through the whole story from Sinai's intercession Exodus 32:32 to this hour. Two records — what each person did, and whose each person was — and the sentence turns, in the end, on the second Revelation 20:15: works are the evidence; the name is the verdict.
The sea gave up the dead who were in it. Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them. They were judged, each one according to his works Revelation 20:13.
Every holding place surrenders — the sea's unburied, the grave's uncounted: no death too lost, too ancient, or too anonymous for the summons. The judgment is exactly universal and exactly individual: each one.
Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. If anyone was not found written in the book of life, he was cast into the lake of fire Revelation 20:14–15.
The pale rider and his collector Revelation 6:8 are themselves executed — Death dies: the last enemy destroyed exactly as promised 1 Corinthians 15:26, the keys' owner Revelation 1:18 closing the whole facility. And the book defines its own term, twice over: the lake of fire is the second death — death final, unresurrectable, the end the first death never truly was Revelation 20:6. What perishes there perishes; and with death itself dead, the next sentence in the book can finally be written: no more death Revelation 21:4.
