"God, even our own God." — Psalm 67:6 · KJV

It is strange how little use we make of the spiritual blessings God gives us, but stranger still how little use we make of God Himself. Though He is "our own God," we turn to Him only a little and ask only a little of Him. How seldom we ask the Lord for counsel! How often we go off about our business without seeking His guidance! In our troubles, how steadily we struggle to carry our burdens ourselves instead of casting them on the Lord so that He may hold us up! It is not that we are forbidden, for the Lord seems to say, "I am yours; come and make use of Me as you will. You may freely come to My storehouse, and the more often you come, the more welcome you are." It is our own fault if we do not help ourselves to the riches of our God. So, since you have such a Friend, and He invites you, draw from Him daily. Never go without while you have a God to go to; never fear or faint while you have God to help you. Go to your treasury and take whatever you need; everything you could possibly want is there. Learn the holy art of making God everything to you. He can supply you with all things, or, better still, He can be to you what all things could never be. Let me urge you, then, to make use of your God. Make use of Him in prayer. Go to Him often, because He is your God. Will you really let so great a privilege slip? Run to Him, tell Him everything you need. Use Him constantly by faith at all times. If some dark providence has clouded your sky, use your God as a sun. If some powerful enemy has hemmed you in, find in Yahweh a shield, for He is a sun and shield to His people. If you have lost your way in the tangle of life, use Him as your guide, for He will direct you. Whoever you are and wherever you are, remember that God is exactly what you need, exactly where you need Him, and He can do all that you need.
