"The Lord is King for ever and ever." — Psalm 10:16 · KJV

Jesus Christ is no tyrant pressing a hollow claim to power; He is truly and genuinely the Lord's anointed. "It hath pleased the Father that in Him should all fullness dwell." God has given Him all power and all authority. As the Son of Man, He is now head over all things for His church, and He reigns over heaven, earth, and the realms below, with the keys of life and death at His side. Some rulers have loved to call themselves kings by the will of the people, and our Lord Jesus Christ is certainly that within His church. If it could be put to a vote whether He should be King there, every believing heart would crown Him. Oh, that we could crown Him more gloriously than we do! We would count no cost wasted that brought Christ honor. Suffering would turn to pleasure and loss to gain if by it we could set brighter crowns on His head and make Him more glorious in the eyes of men and angels. Yes, He shall reign. Long live the King! All hail to You, King Jesus! Come, all you souls who love your Lord; bow at His feet, and scatter His path with the lilies of your love and the roses of your gratitude. Bring out the royal crown and crown Him Lord of all. Our Lord Jesus is King in Zion by right of conquest as well: He has stormed and taken the hearts of His people and destroyed the enemies that held them in cruel slavery. At the cost of His own life our Redeemer has drowned the Pharaoh of our sins, as surely as Israel saw its oppressor swallowed by the sea; shall He not be King among His own? He has freed us from the iron yoke and heavy curse of the law; shall the Liberator not be crowned? We are His portion, won out of the enemy's grip by His own hand; who could ever snatch His conquest away from Him? All hail, King Jesus! We gladly welcome Your gentle rule. Reign in our hearts forever, lovely Prince of Peace.
