"He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the Lord, happy is he." — Proverbs 16:20 · KJV

Wisdom is a person's true strength, and under its guidance he best fulfills the purpose of his being. Handling the business of life wisely gives us the richest enjoyment and offers the noblest work for our powers; by it we find good in the fullest sense. Without wisdom a man runs here and there like an untamed colt, wasting strength that might have been profitably used. Wisdom is the compass by which we steer across the trackless waste of life; without it we are a drifting hulk, the plaything of winds and waves. A man must be careful in a world like this, or he will find no good but be betrayed into countless miseries. The pilgrim will badly wound his feet among the briers of life's forest if he does not choose each step with the greatest caution. Anyone traveling a wilderness infested with bandits must handle matters wisely if he means to arrive safely. If, trained by the Great Teacher, we follow where He leads, we will find good even in this dark dwelling place; there are heavenly fruits to be gathered on this side of Eden, and songs of paradise to be sung among the groves of earth. But where is this wisdom to be found? Many have dreamed of it without possessing it. Where shall we learn it? Let us listen to the voice of the Lord, for He has told the secret; He has revealed to us where true wisdom lies, and we have it in the text: "whoso trusteth in the Lord, happy is he." The true way to handle a matter wisely is to trust in the Lord. This is the sure thread through the most tangled maze of life; follow it and find eternal joy. Whoever trusts in the Lord holds a diploma in wisdom granted by inspiration itself: he is happy now, and he will be happier above. Lord, in this sweet evening hour walk with me in the garden and teach me the wisdom of faith.
