"Forsake me not, O Lord." — Psalm 38:21 · KJV

We often pray that God would not forsake us in the hour of trial and temptation, but we too easily forget that we need this prayer at all times. There is no moment in our lives, however holy, in which we can manage without His constant upholding. Whether in light or in darkness, in close fellowship or in temptation, we equally need the prayer, "Forsake me not, O Lord." "Hold Thou me up, and I shall be safe." A small child learning to walk always needs a helping hand. A ship whose pilot has left her immediately drifts off course. We cannot do without continual help from above, so let this be your prayer today: Forsake me not. Father, do not forsake Your child, or he will fall by the hand of the enemy. Shepherd, do not forsake Your lamb, or he will wander away from the safety of the fold. Great Gardener, do not forsake Your plant, or it will wither and die. Forsake me not, O Lord, now, and forsake me not at any moment of my life. Do not forsake me in my joys, or they will swallow up my heart. Do not forsake me in my sorrows, or I will complain against You. Do not forsake me in the day of my repentance, or I will lose the hope of pardon and fall into despair; and do not forsake me in the day of my strongest faith, or faith will decay into presumption. Do not forsake me, for without You I am weak, but with You I am strong. Do not forsake me, for my path is dangerous and full of traps, and I cannot manage without Your guidance. A hen does not abandon her chicks; so cover me always with Your feathers and let me find refuge under Your wings. "Be not far from me, O Lord, for trouble is near, for there is none to help." "Leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation!" Let Your eternal Spirit rest in our cleansed hearts, and make our inmost soul a temple pure and worthy of You.
