¹After these things, the butler of the king of Egypt and his baker offended their lord, the king of Egypt.

KJVAnd it came to pass after^H310 these things^H1697, that the butler^H8248^(H8688) of the king^H4428 of Egypt^H4714 and his baker^H644^(H8802) had offended^H2398^(H8804) their lord^H113 the king^H4428 of Egypt^H4714.

² Pharaoh was angry with his two officers, the chief cup bearer and the chief baker.

KJVAnd Pharaoh^H6547 was wroth^H7107^(H8799) against^H5921 two^H8147 of his officers^H5631, against the chief^H8269 of the butlers^H8248^(H8688), and against the chief^H8269 of the bakers^H644^(H8802).

³ He put them in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, into the prison, the place where Joseph was bound.

KJVAnd he put^H5414^(H8799) them in ward^H4929 in the house^H1004 of the captain^H8269 of the guard^H2876, into the prison^H1004^H5470, the place^H4725 where Joseph^H3130 was bound^H631^(H8803).

⁴ The captain of the guard assigned them to Joseph, and he took care of them. They stayed in prison many days.

KJVAnd the captain^H8269 of the guard^H2876 charged^H6485^(H8799) Joseph^H3130 with them, and he served^H8334^(H8762) them: and they continued a season^H3117 in ward^H4929.

⁵ They both dreamed a dream, each man his dream, in one night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the cup bearer and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were bound in the prison.

⁶ Joseph came in to them in the morning, and saw them, and saw that they were sad.

⁷ He asked Pharaoh’s officers who were with him in custody in his master’s house, saying, “Why do you look so sad today?”

KJVAnd he asked^H7592^(H8799) Pharaoh's^H6547 officers^H5631 that were with him in the ward^H4929 of his lord's^H113 house^H1004, saying^H559^(H8800), Wherefore look^H6440 ye so sadly^H7451 to day^H3117?

⁸ They said to him, “We have dreamed a dream, and there is no one who can interpret it.” Joseph said to them, “Don’t interpretations belong to God? Please tell it to me.”

KJVAnd they said^H559^(H8799) unto him, We have dreamed^H2492^(H8804) a dream^H2472, and there is no interpreter^H6622^(H8802) of it. And Joseph^H3130 said^H559^(H8799) unto them, Do not interpretations^H6623 belong to God^H430? tell me^H5608^(H8761) them, I pray you.

⁹ The chief cup bearer told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, “In my dream, behold, a vine was in front of me,

KJVAnd the chief^H8269 butler^H8248^(H8688) told^H5608^(H8762) his dream^H2472 to Joseph^H3130, and said^H559^(H8799) to him, In my dream^H2472, behold, a vine^H1612 was before me^H6440;

¹⁰ and in the vine were three branches. It was as though it budded, it blossomed, and its clusters produced ripe grapes.

KJVAnd in the vine^H1612 were three^H7969 branches^H8299: and it was as though it budded^H6524^(H8802), and her blossoms^H5322 shot forth^H5927^(H8804); and the clusters^H811 thereof brought forth ripe^H1310^(H8689) grapes^H6025:

¹¹ Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand; and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh’s cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh’s hand.”

¹² Joseph said to him, “This is its interpretation: the three branches are three days.

KJVAnd Joseph^H3130 said^H559^(H8799) unto him, This is the interpretation^H6623 of it: The three^H7969 branches^H8299 are three^H7969 days^H3117:

¹³ Within three more days, Pharaoh will lift up your head, and restore you to your office. You will give Pharaoh’s cup into his hand, the way you did when you were his cup bearer.

KJVYet^H5750 within three^H7969 days^H3117 shall Pharaoh^H6547 lift up^H5375^(H8799) thine head^H7218, and restore^H7725^(H8689) thee unto thy place^H3653: and thou shalt deliver^H5414^(H8804) Pharaoh's^H6547 cup^H3563 into his hand^H3027, after the former^H7223 manner^H4941 when thou wast his butler^H8248^(H8688).

¹⁴ But remember me when it is well with you. Please show kindness to me, and make mention of me to Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house.

KJVBut think^H2142^(H8804) on me when it shall be well^H3190^(H8799) with thee, and shew^H6213^(H8804) kindness^H2617, I pray thee, unto me, and make mention^H2142^(H8689) of me unto Pharaoh^H6547, and bring me^H3318^(H8689) out of this house^H1004:

¹⁵ For indeed, I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews, and here also I have done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon.”

KJVFor indeed I was stolen away^H1589^(H8795) out of the land^H776 of the Hebrews^H5680: and here also have I done^H6213^(H8804) nothing^H3972 that they should put^H7760^(H8804) me into the dungeon^H953.

¹⁶ When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said to Joseph, “I also was in my dream, and behold, three baskets of white bread were on my head.

KJVWhen the chief^H8269 baker^H644^(H8802) saw^H7200^(H8799) that the interpretation^H6622^(H8804) was good^H2896, he said^H559^(H8799) unto Joseph^H3130, I also^H637 was in my dream^H2472, and, behold, I had three^H7969 white^H2751 baskets^H5536 on my head^H7218:

¹⁷ In the uppermost basket there were all kinds of baked food for Pharaoh, and the birds ate them out of the basket on my head.”

KJVAnd in the uppermost^H5945 basket^H5536 there was of all manner^H3978 of bakemeats^H4639^H644^(H8802) for Pharaoh^H6547; and the birds^H5775 did eat^H398^(H8802) them out of the basket^H5536 upon^H5921 my head^H7218.

¹⁸ Joseph answered, “This is its interpretation. The three baskets are three days.

KJVAnd Joseph^H3130 answered^H6030^(H8799) and said^H559^(H8799), This is the interpretation^H6623 thereof: The three^H7969 baskets^H5536 are three^H7969 days^H3117:

¹⁹ Within three more days, Pharaoh will lift up your head from off you, and will hang you on a tree; and the birds will eat your flesh from off you.”

KJVYet within three^H7969 days^H3117 shall Pharaoh^H6547 lift up^H5375^(H8799) thy head^H7218 from off thee, and shall hang^H8518^(H8804) thee on a tree^H6086; and the birds^H5775 shall eat^H398^(H8804) thy flesh^H1320 from off thee.

²⁰ On the third day, which was Pharaoh’s birthday, he made a feast for all his servants, and he lifted up the head of the chief cup bearer and the head of the chief baker among his servants.

KJVAnd it came to pass the third^H7992 day^H3117, which was Pharaoh's^H6547 birthday^H3117^H3205^(H8715), that he made^H6213^(H8799) a feast^H4960 unto all his servants^H5650: and he lifted up^H5375^(H8799) the head^H7218 of the chief^H8269 butler^H8248^(H8688) and of the chief^H8269 baker^H644^(H8802) among^H8432 his servants^H5650.

²¹ He restored the chief cup bearer to his position again, and he gave the cup into Pharaoh’s hand;

KJVAnd he restored^H7725 the chief^H8269 butler^H8248^(H8688) unto his butlership^H4945 again^H7725^(H8686); and he gave^H5414^(H8799) the cup^H3563 into Pharaoh's^H6547 hand^H3709:

²² but he hanged the chief baker, as Joseph had interpreted to them.

KJVBut he hanged^H8518^(H8804) the chief^H8269 baker^H644^(H8802): as Joseph^H3130 had interpreted^H6622^(H8804) to them.

²³ Yet the chief cup bearer didn’t remember Joseph, but forgot him.

KJVYet did not the chief^H8269 butler^H8248^(H8688) remember^H2142^(H8804) Joseph^H3130, but forgat^H7911^(H8799) him.

¹Joseph was brought down to Egypt. Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh’s, the captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him from the hand of the Ishmaelites that had brought him down there.

KJVAnd Joseph^H3130 was brought down^H3381^(H8717) to Egypt^H4714; and Potiphar^H6318, an officer^H5631 of Pharaoh^H6547, captain^H8269 of the guard^H2876, an Egyptian^H376^H4713, bought^H7069^(H8799) him of the hands^H3027 of the Ishmeelites^H3459, which had brought him down^H3381^(H8689) thither.

² Yahweh was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man. He was in the house of his master the Egyptian.

KJVAnd the LORD^H3068 was with Joseph^H3130, and he was a prosperous^H6743^(H8688) man^H376; and he was in the house^H1004 of his master^H113 the Egyptian^H4713.

³ His master saw that Yahweh was with him, and that Yahweh made all that he did prosper in his hand.

KJVAnd his master^H113 saw^H7200^(H8799) that the LORD^H3068 was with him, and that the LORD^H3068 made all that he did^H6213^(H8802) to prosper^H6743^(H8688) in his hand^H3027.

⁴ Joseph found favor in his sight. He ministered to him, and Potiphar made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.

KJVAnd Joseph^H3130 found^H4672^(H8799) grace^H2580 in his sight^H5869, and he served^H8334^(H8762) him: and he made him overseer^H6485^(H8686) over his house^H1004, and all that he had^H3426 he put^H5414^(H8804) into his hand^H3027.

⁵ From the time that he made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, Yahweh blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake. Yahweh’s blessing was on all that he had, in the house and in the field.

KJVAnd it came to pass from the time^H227 that he had made him overseer^H6485^(H8689) in his house^H1004, and over all that he had^H3426, that the LORD^H3068 blessed^H1288^(H8762) the Egyptian's^H4713 house^H1004 for Joseph's^H3130 sake^H1558; and the blessing^H1293 of the LORD^H3068 was upon all that he had^H3426 in the house^H1004, and in the field^H7704.

⁶ He left all that he had in Joseph’s hand. He didn’t concern himself with anything, except for the food which he ate. Joseph was well-built and handsome.

KJVAnd he left^H5800^(H8799) all that he had in Joseph's^H3130 hand^H3027; and he knew^H3045^(H8804) not ought^H3972 he had, save^H518 the bread^H3899 which he did eat^H398^(H8802). And Joseph^H3130 was a goodly^H8389 person, and well^H3303 favoured^H4758.

⁷ After these things, his master’s wife set her eyes on Joseph; and she said, “Lie with me.”

KJVAnd it came to pass after^H310 these things^H1697, that his master's^H113 wife^H802 cast^H5375^(H8799) her eyes^H5869 upon Joseph^H3130; and she said^H559^(H8799), Lie^H7901^(H8798) with me.

⁸ But he refused, and said to his master’s wife, “Behold, my master doesn’t know what is with me in the house, and he has put all that he has into my hand.

KJVBut he refused^H3985^(H8762), and said^H559^(H8799) unto his master's^H113 wife^H802, Behold, my master^H113 wotteth^H3045^(H8804) not what is with me in the house^H1004, and he hath committed^H5414^(H8804) all that he hath^H3426 to my hand^H3027;

⁹ No one is greater in this house than I am, and he has not kept back anything from me but you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?”

KJVThere is none greater^H1419 in this house^H1004 than I; neither^H3808 hath he kept back^H2820^(H8804) any thing^H3972 from me but thee, because^H834 thou^H859 art his wife^H802: how then can I do^H6213^(H8799) this great^H1419 wickedness^H7451, and sin^H2398^(H8804) against God^H430?

¹⁰ As she spoke to Joseph day by day, he didn’t listen to her, to lie by her, or to be with her.

KJVAnd it came to pass, as she spake^H1696^(H8763) to Joseph^H3130 day^H3117 by day^H3117, that he hearkened^H8085^(H8804) not unto her, to lie^H7901^(H8800) by her^H681, or to be with her.

¹¹ About this time, he went into the house to do his work, and there were none of the men of the house inside.

KJVAnd it came to pass about this time^H3117, that Joseph went^H935^(H8799) into the house^H1004 to do^H6213^(H8800) his business^H4399; and there was none of the men^H376^H582 of the house^H1004 there within.

¹² She caught him by his garment, saying, “Lie with me!” He left his garment in her hand, and ran outside.

¹³ When she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and had run outside,

¹⁴ she called to the men of her house, and spoke to them, saying, “Behold, he has brought a Hebrew in to us to mock us. He came in to me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice.

¹⁵ When he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, he left his garment by me, and ran outside.”

¹⁶ She laid up his garment by her, until his master came home.

¹⁷ She spoke to him according to these words, saying, “The Hebrew servant, whom you have brought to us, came in to me to mock me,

¹⁸ and as I lifted up my voice and cried, he left his garment by me, and ran outside.”

KJVAnd it came to pass, as I lifted up^H7311^(H8687) my voice^H6963 and cried^H7121^(H8799), that he left^H5800^(H8799) his garment^H899 with me^H681, and fled^H5127^(H8799) out^H2351.

¹⁹ When his master heard the words of his wife, which she spoke to him, saying, “This is what your servant did to me,” his wrath was kindled.

²⁰ Joseph’s master took him, and put him into the prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were bound, and he was there in custody.

²¹ But Yahweh was with Joseph, and showed kindness to him, and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.

KJVBut the LORD^H3068 was with Joseph^H3130, and shewed^H5186^(H8799) him mercy^H2617, and gave^H5414^(H8799) him favour^H2580 in the sight^H5869 of the keeper^H8269 of the prison^H1004^H5470.

²² The keeper of the prison committed to Joseph’s hand all the prisoners who were in the prison. Whatever they did there, he was responsible for it.

KJVAnd the keeper^H8269 of the prison^H1004^H5470 committed^H5414^(H8799) to Joseph's^H3130 hand^H3027 all the prisoners^H615 that were in the prison^H1004^H5470; and whatsoever they did^H6213^(H8802) there, he was the doer^H6213^(H8802) of it.

²³ The keeper of the prison didn’t look after anything that was under his hand, because Yahweh was with him; and that which he did, Yahweh made it prosper.

KJVThe keeper^H8269 of the prison^H1004^H5470 looked^H7200^(H8802) not to any thing^H3972 that was under his hand^H3027; because the LORD^H3068 was with him, and that which he did^H6213^(H8802), the LORD^H3068 made it to prosper^H6743^(H8688).
