2 Chronicles 14

WEB·2 Chronicles 14
1So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in David’s city; and Asa his son reigned in his place. In his days, the land was quiet ten years.
KJVSo AbijahH29 sleptH7901(H8799) with his fathersH1, and they buriedH6912(H8799) him in the cityH5892 of DavidH1732: and AsaH609 his sonH1121 reignedH4427(H8799) in his stead. In his daysH3117 the landH776 was quietH8252(H8804) tenH6235 yearsH8141.
2 Asa did that which was good and right in Yahweh his God’s eyes,
KJVAnd AsaH609 didH6213(H8799) that which was goodH2896 and rightH3477 in the eyesH5869 of the LORDH3068 his GodH430:
3 for he took away the foreign altars and the high places, broke down the pillars, cut down the Asherah poles,
KJVFor he took awayH5493(H8686) the altarsH4196 of the strangeH5236 gods, and the high placesH1116, and brake downH7665(H8762) the imagesH4676, and cut downH1438(H8762) the grovesH842:
4 and commanded Judah to seek Yahweh, the God of their fathers, and to obey his law and command.
KJVAnd commandedH559(H8799) JudahH3063 to seekH1875(H8800) the LORDH3068 GodH430 of their fathersH1, and to doH6213(H8800) the lawH8451 and the commandmentH4687.
5 Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the sun images; and the kingdom was quiet before him.
KJVAlso he took awayH5493(H8686) out of all the citiesH5892 of JudahH3063 the high placesH1116 and the imagesH2553: and the kingdomH4467 was quietH8252(H8799) beforeH6440 him.
6 He built fortified cities in Judah; for the land was quiet, and he had no war in those years, because Yahweh had given him rest.
KJVAnd he builtH1129(H8799) fencedH4694 citiesH5892 in JudahH3063: for the landH776 had restH8252(H8804), and he had no warH4421 in those yearsH8141; because the LORDH3068 had given him restH5117(H8689).
7 For he said to Judah, “Let’s build these cities and make walls around them, with towers, gates, and bars. The land is yet before us, because we have sought Yahweh our God. We have sought him, and he has given us rest on every side.” So they built and prospered.
KJVTherefore he saidH559(H8799) unto JudahH3063, Let us buildH1129(H8799) these citiesH5892, and make aboutH5437(H8686) them wallsH2346, and towersH4026, gatesH1817, and barsH1280, while the landH776 is yet beforeH6440 us; because we have soughtH1875(H8804) the LORDH3068 our GodH430, we have soughtH1875(H8804) him, and he hath given us restH5117(H8799) on every sideH5439. So they builtH1129(H8799) and prosperedH6743(H8686).
8 Asa had an army of three hundred thousand out of Judah who bore bucklers and spears, and two hundred eighty thousand out of Benjamin who bore shields and drew bows. All these were mighty men of valor.
KJVAnd AsaH609 had an armyH2428 of men that bareH5375(H8802) targetsH6793 and spearsH7420, out of JudahH3063 threeH7969 hundredH3967 thousandH505; and out of BenjaminH1144, that bareH5375(H8802) shieldsH4043 and drewH1869(H8802) bowsH7198, two hundredH3967 and fourscoreH8084 thousandH505: all these were mighty menH1368 of valourH2428.
9 Zerah the Ethiopian came out against them with an army of a million troops and three hundred chariots, and he came to Mareshah.
KJVAnd there came outH3318(H8799) against them ZerahH2226 the EthiopianH3569 with an hostH2428 of a thousandH505 thousandH505, and threeH7969 hundredH3967 chariotsH4818; and cameH935(H8799) unto MareshahH4762.
10 Then Asa went out to meet him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.
KJVThen AsaH609 went outH3318(H8799) againstH6440 him, and they set the battleH4421 in arrayH6186(H8799) in the valleyH1516 of ZephathahH6859 at MareshahH4762.
11 Asa cried to Yahweh his God, and said, “Yahweh, there is no one besides you to help, between the mighty and him who has no strength. Help us, Yahweh our God; for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this multitude. Yahweh, you are our God. Don’t let man prevail against you.”
KJVAnd AsaH609 criedH7121(H8799) unto the LORDH3068 his GodH430, and saidH559(H8799), LORDH3068, it is nothing with thee to helpH5826(H8800), whetherH996 with manyH7227, or with them that have no powerH3581: helpH5826(H8798) us, O LORDH3068 our GodH430; for we restH8172(H8738) on thee, and in thy nameH8034 we goH935(H8804) against this multitudeH1995. O LORDH3068, thou art our GodH430; let not manH582 prevailH6113(H8799) against thee.
12 So Yahweh struck the Ethiopians before Asa and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.
KJVSo the LORDH3068 smoteH5062(H8799) the EthiopiansH3569 beforeH6440 AsaH609, and beforeH6440 JudahH3063; and the EthiopiansH3569 fledH5127(H8799).
13 Asa and the people who were with him pursued them to Gerar. So many of the Ethiopians fell that they could not recover themselves, for they were destroyed before Yahweh and before his army. Judah’s army carried away very much booty.
KJVAnd AsaH609 and the peopleH5971 that were with him pursuedH7291(H8799) them unto GerarH1642: and the EthiopiansH3569 were overthrownH5307(H8799), that they could not recoverH4241 themselves; for they were destroyedH7665(H8738) beforeH6440 the LORDH3068, and beforeH6440 his hostH4264; and they carried awayH5375(H8799) veryH3966 muchH7235(H8687) spoilH7998.
14 They struck all the cities around Gerar, for the fear of Yahweh came on them. They plundered all the cities, for there was much plunder in them.
KJVAnd they smoteH5221(H8686) all the citiesH5892 round aboutH5439 GerarH1642; for the fearH6343 of the LORDH3068 came upon them: and they spoiledH962(H8799) all the citiesH5892; for there was exceeding muchH7227 spoilH961 in them.
15 They also struck the tents of those who had livestock, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, then returned to Jerusalem.
KJVThey smoteH5221(H8689) also the tentsH168 of cattleH4735, and carried awayH7617(H8799) sheepH6629 and camelsH1581 in abundanceH7230, and returnedH7725(H8799) to JerusalemH3389.
