Isaiah 41
WEB·Isaiah 41
1“Keep silent before me, islands, and let the peoples renew their strength. Let them come near, then let them speak. Let’s meet together for judgment.
KJVKeep silenceH2790(H8685) before me, O islandsH339; and let the peopleH3816 renewH2498(H8686) their strengthH3581: let them come nearH5066(H8799); then let them speakH1696(H8762): let us come nearH7126(H8799) togetherH3162 to judgmentH4941.
2 Who has raised up one from the east? Who called him to his feet in righteousness? He hands over nations to him and makes him rule over kings. He gives them like the dust to his sword, like the driven stubble to his bow.
KJVWho raised upH5782(H8689) the righteousH6664 man from the eastH4217, calledH7121(H8799) him to his footH7272, gaveH5414(H8799) the nationsH1471 beforeH6440 him, and made him ruleH7287(H8686) over kingsH4428? he gaveH5414(H8799) them as the dustH6083 to his swordH2719, and as drivenH5086(H8737) stubbleH7179 to his bowH7198.
3 He pursues them and passes by safely, even by a way that he had not gone with his feet.
KJVHe pursuedH7291(H8799) them, and passedH5674(H8799) safelyH7965; even by the wayH734 that he had not goneH935(H8799) with his feetH7272.
4 Who has worked and done it, calling the generations from the beginning? I, Yahweh, the first, and with the last, I am he.”
KJVWho hath wroughtH6466(H8804) and doneH6213(H8804) it, callingH7121(H8802) the generationsH1755 from the beginningH7218? I the LORDH3068, the firstH7223, and with the lastH314; I am he.
5 The islands have seen, and fear. The ends of the earth tremble. They approach, and come.
KJVThe islesH339 sawH7200(H8804) it, and fearedH3372(H8799); the endsH7098 of the earthH776 were afraidH2729(H8799), drew nearH7126(H8804), and cameH857(H8799).
6 Everyone helps his neighbor. They say to their brothers, “Be strong!”
KJVThey helpedH5826(H8799) every oneH376 his neighbourH7453; and every one saidH559(H8799) to his brotherH251, Be of good courageH2388(H8798).
7 So the carpenter encourages the goldsmith. He who smooths with the hammer encourages him who strikes the anvil, saying of the soldering, “It is good;” and he fastens it with nails, that it might not totter.
KJVSo the carpenterH2796 encouragedH2388(H8762) the goldsmithH6884(H8802), and he that smoothethH2505(H8688) with the hammerH6360 him that smoteH1986(H8802) the anvilH6471, sayingH559(H8802), It is readyH2896 for the soderingH1694: and he fastenedH2388(H8762) it with nailsH4548, that it should not be movedH4131(H8735).
8 “But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the offspring of Abraham my friend,
KJVBut thou, IsraelH3478, art my servantH5650, JacobH3290 whom I have chosenH977(H8804), the seedH2233 of AbrahamH85 my friendH157(H8802).
9 you whom I have taken hold of from the ends of the earth, and called from its corners, and said to you, ‘You are my servant. I have chosen you and have not cast you away.’
KJVThou whom I have takenH2388(H8689) from the endsH7098 of the earthH776, and calledH7121(H8804) thee from the chief menH678 thereof, and saidH559(H8799) unto thee, Thou art my servantH5650; I have chosenH977(H8804) thee, and not cast thee awayH3988(H8804).
10 Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.
KJVFearH3372(H8799) thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayedH8159(H8691); for I am thy GodH430: I will strengthenH553(H8765) thee; yea, I will helpH5826(H8804) thee; yea, I will upholdH8551(H8804) thee with the right handH3225 of my righteousnessH6664.
11 Behold, all those who are incensed against you will be disappointed and confounded. Those who strive with you will be like nothing, and shall perish.
KJVBehold, all they that were incensedH2734(H8737) against thee shall be ashamedH954(H8799) and confoundedH3637(H8735): they shall be as nothing; and theyH582 that striveH7379 with thee shall perishH6(H8799).
12 You will seek them, and won’t find them, even those who contend with you. Those who war against you will be as nothing, as a nonexistent thing.
KJVThou shalt seekH1245(H8762) them, and shalt not findH4672(H8799) them, even themH582 that contendedH4695 with thee: they that warH4421 against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of noughtH657.
13 For I, Yahweh your God, will hold your right hand, saying to you, ‘Don’t be afraid. I will help you.’
KJVFor I the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 will holdH2388(H8688) thy right handH3225, sayingH559(H8802) unto thee, FearH3372(H8799) not; I will helpH5826(H8804) thee.
14 Don’t be afraid, you worm Jacob, and you men of Israel. I will help you,” says Yahweh. “Your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel.
KJVFearH3372(H8799) not, thou wormH8438 JacobH3290, and ye menH4962 of IsraelH3478; I will helpH5826(H8804) thee, saithH5002(H8803) the LORDH3068, and thy redeemerH1350(H8802), the Holy OneH6918 of IsraelH3478.
15 Behold, I have made you into a new sharp threshing instrument with teeth. You will thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and will make the hills like chaff.
KJVBehold, I will makeH7760(H8804) thee a newH2319 sharpH2742 threshingH4173 instrument havingH1167 teethH6374: thou shalt threshH1758(H8799) the mountainsH2022, and beat them smallH1854(H8799), and shalt makeH7760(H8799) the hillsH1389 as chaffH4671.
16 You will winnow them, and the wind will carry them away, and the whirlwind will scatter them. You will rejoice in Yahweh. You will glory in the Holy One of Israel.
KJVThou shalt fanH2219(H8799) them, and the windH7307 shall carry them awayH5375(H8799), and the whirlwindH5591 shall scatterH6327(H8686) them: and thou shalt rejoiceH1523(H8799) in the LORDH3068, and shalt gloryH1984(H8691) in the Holy OneH6918 of IsraelH3478.
17 The poor and needy seek water, and there is none. Their tongue fails for thirst. I, Yahweh, will answer them. I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them.
KJVWhen the poorH6041 and needyH34 seekH1245(H8764) waterH4325, and there is none, and their tongueH3956 failethH5405(H8804) for thirstH6772, I the LORDH3068 will hearH6030(H8799) them, I the GodH430 of IsraelH3478 will not forsakeH5800(H8799) them.
18 I will open rivers on the bare heights, and springs in the middle of the valleys. I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water.
KJVI will openH6605(H8799) riversH5104 in high placesH8205, and fountainsH4599 in the midstH8432 of the valleysH1237: I will makeH7760(H8799) the wildernessH4057 a poolH98 of waterH4325, and the dryH6723 landH776 springsH4161 of waterH4325.
19 I will put cedar, acacia, myrtle, and oil trees in the wilderness. I will set cypress trees, pine, and box trees together in the desert;
KJVI will plantH5414(H8799) in the wildernessH4057 the cedarH730, the shittah treeH7848, and the myrtleH1918, and the oilH8081 treeH6086; I will setH7760(H8799) in the desertH6160 the fir treeH1265, and the pineH8410, and the box treeH8391 togetherH3162:
20 that they may see, know, consider, and understand together, that Yahweh’s hand has done this, and the Holy One of Israel has created it.
KJVThat they may seeH7200(H8799), and knowH3045(H8799), and considerH7760(H8799), and understandH7919(H8686) togetherH3162, that the handH3027 of the LORDH3068 hath doneH6213(H8804) this, and the Holy OneH6918 of IsraelH3478 hath createdH1254(H8804) it.
21 Produce your cause,” says Yahweh. “Bring out your strong reasons!” says the King of Jacob.
KJVProduceH7126(H8761) your causeH7379, saithH559(H8799) the LORDH3068; bring forthH5066(H8685) your strongH6110 reasons, saithH559(H8799) the KingH4428 of JacobH3290.
22 “Let them announce and declare to us what will happen! Declare the former things, what they are, that we may consider them, and know the latter end of them; or show us things to come.
KJVLet them bring them forthH5066(H8686), and shewH5046(H8686) us what shall happenH7136(H8799): let them shewH5046(H8685) the former thingsH7223, what they be, that we may considerH7760(H8799)H3820 them, and knowH3045(H8799) the latter endH319 of them; or declareH8085(H8685) us things for to comeH935(H8802).
23 Declare the things that are to come hereafter, that we may know that you are gods. Yes, do good, or do evil, that we may be dismayed, and see it together.
KJVShewH5046(H8685) the things that are to comeH857(H8802) hereafterH268, that we may knowH3045(H8799) that ye are godsH430: yea, do goodH3190(H8686), or do evilH7489(H8686), that we may be dismayedH8159(H8691), and beholdH7200(H8799) it togetherH3162.
24 Behold, you are nothing, and your work is nothing. He who chooses you is an abomination.
KJVBehold, ye are of nothingH369, and your workH6467 of noughtH659: an abominationH8441 is he that choosethH977(H8799) you.
25 “I have raised up one from the north, and he has come, from the rising of the sun, one who calls on my name, and he shall come on rulers as on mortar, and as the potter treads clay.
KJVI have raised upH5782(H8689) one from the northH6828, and he shall comeH857(H8799): from the risingH4217 of the sunH8121 shall he callH7121(H8799) upon my nameH8034: and he shall comeH935(H8799) upon princesH5461 as upon morterH2563, and as the potterH3335(H8802) treadethH7429(H8799) clayH2916.
26 Who has declared it from the beginning, that we may know? and before, that we may say, ‘He is right’? Surely, there is no one who declares. Surely, there is no one who shows. Surely, there is no one who hears your words.
KJVWho hath declaredH5046(H8689) from the beginningH7218, that we may knowH3045(H8799)? and beforetimeH6440, that we may sayH559(H8799), He is righteousH6662? yea, there is none that shewethH5046(H8688), yea, there is none that declarethH8085(H8688), yea, there is none that hearethH8085(H8802) your wordsH561.
27 I am the first to say to Zion, ‘Behold, look at them;’ and I will give one who brings good news to Jerusalem.
KJVThe firstH7223 shall say to ZionH6726, BeholdH2009, beholdH2009 them: and I will giveH5414(H8799) to JerusalemH3389 one that bringeth good tidingsH1319(H8764).
28 When I look, there is no man, even among them there is no counselor who, when I ask, can answer a word.
KJVFor I beheldH7200(H8799), and there was no manH376; even among them, and there was no counsellorH3289(H8802), that, when I askedH7592(H8799) of them, could answerH7725(H8686) a wordH1697.
29 Behold, all of their deeds are vanity and nothing. Their molten images are wind and confusion.
KJVBehold, they are all vanityH205; their worksH4639 are nothingH657: their molten imagesH5262 are windH7307 and confusionH8414.
