Isaiah 48
WEB·Isaiah 48
1“Hear this, house of Jacob, you who are called by the name of Israel, and have come out of the waters of Judah. You swear by Yahweh’s name, and make mention of the God of Israel, but not in truth, nor in righteousness—
KJVHearH8085(H8798) ye this, O houseH1004 of JacobH3290, which are calledH7121(H8737) by the nameH8034 of IsraelH3478, and are come forthH3318(H8804) out of the watersH4325 of JudahH3063, which swearH7650(H8737) by the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068, and make mentionH2142(H8686) of the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, but not in truthH571, nor in righteousnessH6666.
2 for they call themselves citizens of the holy city, and rely on the God of Israel; Yahweh of Armies is his name.
KJVFor they callH7121(H8738) themselves of the holyH6944 cityH5892, and stayH5564(H8738) themselves upon the GodH430 of IsraelH3478; The LORDH3068 of hostsH6635 is his nameH8034.
3 I have declared the former things from of old. Yes, they went out of my mouth, and I revealed them. I did them suddenly, and they happened.
KJVI have declaredH5046(H8689) the former thingsH7223 from the beginningH227; and they went forthH3318(H8804) out of my mouthH6310, and I shewedH8085(H8686) them; I didH6213(H8804) them suddenlyH6597, and they came to passH935(H8799).
4 Because I knew that you are obstinate, and your neck is an iron sinew, and your brow bronze;
KJVBecause I knewH1847 that thou art obstinateH7186, and thy neckH6203 is an ironH1270 sinewH1517, and thy browH4696 brassH5154;
5 therefore I have declared it to you from of old; before it came to pass I showed it to you; lest you should say, ‘My idol has done them. My engraved image and my molten image has commanded them.’
KJVI have even from the beginningH227 declaredH5046(H8686) it to thee; before it came to passH935(H8799) I shewedH8085(H8689) it thee: lest thou shouldest sayH559(H8799), Mine idolH6090 hath doneH6213(H8804) them, and my graven imageH6459, and my molten imageH5262, hath commandedH6680(H8765) them.
6 You have heard it. Now see all this. And you, won’t you declare it? “I have shown you new things from this time, even hidden things, which you have not known.
KJVThou hast heardH8085(H8804), seeH2372(H8798) all this; and will not ye declareH5046(H8686) it? I have shewedH8085(H8689) thee new thingsH2319 from this timeH6258, even hidden thingsH5341(H8803), and thou didst not knowH3045(H8804) them.
7 They are created now, and not from of old. Before today, you didn’t hear them, lest you should say, ‘Behold, I knew them.’
KJVThey are createdH1254(H8738) now, and not from the beginning; even beforeH6440 the dayH3117 when thou heardestH8085(H8804) them not; lest thou shouldest sayH559(H8799), Behold, I knewH3045(H8804) them.
8 Yes, you didn’t hear. Yes, you didn’t know. Yes, from of old your ear was not opened, for I knew that you dealt very treacherously, and were called a transgressor from the womb.
KJVYea, thou heardestH8085(H8804) not; yea, thou knewestH3045(H8804) not; yea, from that time that thine earH241 was not openedH6605(H8765): for I knewH3045(H8804) that thou wouldest deal veryH898(H8800) treacherouslyH898(H8799), and wast calledH7121(H8795) a transgressorH6586(H8802) from the wombH990.
9 For my name’s sake, I will defer my anger, and for my praise, I hold it back for you so that I don’t cut you off.
KJVFor my name'sH8034 sake will I deferH748(H8686) mine angerH639, and for my praiseH8416 will I refrainH2413(H8799) for thee, that I cut thee not offH3772(H8687).
10 Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver. I have chosen you in the furnace of affliction.
KJVBehold, I have refinedH6884(H8804) thee, but not with silverH3701; I have chosenH977(H8804) thee in the furnaceH3564 of afflictionH6040.
11 For my own sake, for my own sake, I will do it; for how would my name be profaned? I will not give my glory to another.
KJVFor mine own sake, even for mine own sake, will I doH6213(H8799) it: for how should my name be pollutedH2490(H8735)? and I will not giveH5414(H8799) my gloryH3519 unto anotherH312.
12 “Listen to me, O Jacob, and Israel my called: I am he. I am the first. I am also the last.
KJVHearkenH8085(H8798) unto me, O JacobH3290 and IsraelH3478, my calledH7121(H8794); I am he; I am the firstH7223, I also am the lastH314.
13 Yes, my hand has laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand has spread out the heavens. when I call to them, they stand up together.
KJVMine handH3027 also hath laid the foundationH3245(H8804) of the earthH776, and my right handH3225 hath spannedH2946(H8765) the heavensH8064: when I callH7121(H8802) unto them, they stand upH5975(H8799) togetherH3162.
14 “Assemble yourselves, all of you, and hear! Who among them has declared these things? He whom Yahweh loves will do what he likes to Babylon, and his arm will be against the Chaldeans.
KJVAll ye, assembleH6908(H8734) yourselves, and hearH8085(H8798); which among them hath declaredH5046(H8689) these things? The LORDH3068 hath lovedH157(H8804) him: he will doH6213(H8799) his pleasureH2656 on BabylonH894, and his armH2220 shall be on the ChaldeansH3778.
15 I, even I, have spoken. Yes, I have called him. I have brought him and he shall make his way prosperous.
KJVI, even I, have spokenH1696(H8765); yea, I have calledH7121(H8804) him: I have broughtH935(H8689) him, and he shall make his wayH1870 prosperousH6743(H8689).
16 “Come near to me and hear this: “From the beginning I have not spoken in secret; from the time that it happened, I was there.” Now the Lord Yahweh has sent me with his Spirit.
KJVComeH7126(H8798) ye nearH7126(H8798) unto me, hearH8085(H8798) ye this; I have not spokenH1696(H8765) in secretH5643 from the beginningH7218; from the timeH6256 that it was, there am I: and now the LordH136 GODH3069, and his SpiritH7307, hath sentH7971(H8804) me.
17 Yahweh, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, says: “I am Yahweh your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you by the way that you should go.
KJVThus saithH559(H8804) the LORDH3068, thy RedeemerH1350(H8802), the Holy OneH6918 of IsraelH3478; I am the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 which teachethH3925(H8764) thee to profitH3276(H8687), which leadethH1869(H8688) thee by the wayH1870 that thou shouldest goH3212(H8799).
18 Oh that you had listened to my commandments! Then your peace would have been like a river and your righteousness like the waves of the sea.
KJVO thatH3863 thou hadst hearkenedH7181(H8689) to my commandmentsH4687! then had thy peaceH7965 been as a riverH5104, and thy righteousnessH6666 as the wavesH1530 of the seaH3220:
19 Your offspring also would have been as the sand and the descendants of your body like its grains. His name would not be cut off nor destroyed from before me.”
KJVThy seedH2233 also had been as the sandH2344, and the offspringH6631 of thy bowelsH4578 like the gravelH4579 thereof; his nameH8034 should not have been cut offH3772(H8735) nor destroyedH8045(H8735) from beforeH6440 me.
20 Leave Babylon! Flee from the Chaldeans! With the sound of joyful shouting announce this, tell it even to the end of the earth; say, “Yahweh has redeemed his servant Jacob!”
KJVGo ye forthH3318(H8798) of BabylonH894, fleeH1272(H8798) ye from the ChaldeansH3778, with a voiceH6963 of singingH7440 declareH5046(H8685) ye, tellH8085(H8685) this, utterH3318(H8685) it even to the endH7097 of the earthH776; sayH559(H8798) ye, The LORDH3068 hath redeemedH1350(H8804) his servantH5650 JacobH3290.
21 They didn’t thirst when he led them through the deserts. He caused the waters to flow out of the rock for them. He also split the rock and the waters gushed out.
KJVAnd they thirstedH6770(H8804) not when he ledH3212(H8689) them through the desertsH2723: he caused the watersH4325 to flowH5140(H8689) out of the rockH6697 for them: he claveH1234(H8799) the rockH6697 also, and the watersH4325 gushed outH2100(H8799).
22 “There is no peace”, says Yahweh, “for the wicked.”
KJVThere is no peaceH7965, saithH559(H8804) the LORDH3068, unto the wickedH7563.
