Jeremiah 22

WEB·Jeremiah 22
1Yahweh said, “Go down to the house of the king of Judah, and speak this word there:
KJVThus saithH559(H8804) the LORDH3068; Go downH3381(H8798) to the houseH1004 of the kingH4428 of JudahH3063, and speakH1696(H8765) there this wordH1697,
2 ‘Hear Yahweh’s word, king of Judah, who sits on David’s throne—you, your servants, and your people who enter in by these gates.
KJVAnd sayH559(H8804), HearH8085(H8798) the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068, O kingH4428 of JudahH3063, that sittestH3427(H8802) upon the throneH3678 of DavidH1732, thou, and thy servantsH5650, and thy peopleH5971 that enterH935(H8802) in by these gatesH8179:
3 Yahweh says: “Execute justice and righteousness, and deliver him who is robbed out of the hand of the oppressor. Do no wrong. Do no violence to the foreigner, the fatherless, or the widow. Don’t shed innocent blood in this place.
KJVThus saithH559(H8804) the LORDH3068; ExecuteH6213(H8798) ye judgmentH4941 and righteousnessH6666, and deliverH5337(H8685) the spoiledH1497(H8803) out of the handH3027 of the oppressorH6216: and do no wrongH3238(H8686), do no violenceH2554(H8799) to the strangerH1616, the fatherlessH3490, nor the widowH490, neither shedH8210(H8799) innocentH5355 bloodH1818 in this placeH4725.
4 For if you do this thing indeed, then kings sitting on David’s throne will enter in by the gates of this house, riding in chariots and on horses—they, their servants, and their people.
KJVFor if ye doH6213(H8799) this thingH1697 indeedH6213(H8800), then shall there enter inH935(H8804) by the gatesH8179 of this houseH1004 kingsH4428 sittingH3427(H8802) upon the throneH3678 of DavidH1732, ridingH7392(H8802) in chariotsH7393 and on horsesH5483, he, and his servantsH5650, and his peopleH5971.
5 But if you will not hear these words, I swear by myself,” says Yahweh, “that this house will become a desolation.”’”
KJVBut if ye will not hearH8085(H8799) these wordsH1697, I swearH7650(H8738) by myself, saithH5002(H8803) the LORDH3068, that this houseH1004 shall become a desolationH2723.
6 For Yahweh says concerning the house of the king of Judah: “You are Gilead to me, the head of Lebanon. Yet surely I will make you a wilderness, cities which are not inhabited.
KJVFor thus saithH559(H8804) the LORDH3068 unto the king'sH4428 houseH1004 of JudahH3063; Thou art GileadH1568 unto me, and the headH7218 of LebanonH3844: yet surely I will makeH7896(H8799) thee a wildernessH4057, and citiesH5892 which are not inhabitedH3427(H8738)(H8675)H3427(H8737).
7 I will prepare destroyers against you, everyone with his weapons, and they will cut down your choice cedars, and cast them into the fire.
KJVAnd I will prepareH6942(H8765) destroyersH7843(H8688) against thee, every oneH376 with his weaponsH3627: and they shall cut downH3772(H8804) thy choiceH4005 cedarsH730, and castH5307(H8689) them into the fireH784.
8 “Many nations will pass by this city, and they will each ask his neighbor, ‘Why has Yahweh done this to this great city?’
KJVAnd manyH7227 nationsH1471 shall passH5674(H8804) by this cityH5892, and they shall sayH559(H8804) every manH376 to his neighbourH7453, Wherefore hath the LORDH3068 doneH6213(H8804) thus unto this greatH1419 cityH5892?
9 Then they will answer, ‘Because they abandoned the covenant of Yahweh their God, worshiped other gods, and served them.’”
KJVThen they shall answerH559(H8804), Because they have forsakenH5800(H8804) the covenantH1285 of the LORDH3068 their GodH430, and worshippedH7812(H8691) otherH312 godsH430, and servedH5647(H8799) them.
10 Don’t weep for the dead. Don’t bemoan him; but weep bitterly for him who goes away, for he will return no more, and not see his native country.
KJVWeepH1058(H8799) ye not for the deadH4191(H8801), neither bemoanH5110(H8799) him: but weepH1058(H8798) soreH1058(H8800) for him that goeth awayH1980(H8802): for he shall returnH7725(H8799) no more, nor seeH7200(H8804) his nativeH4138 countryH776.
11 For Yahweh says touching Shallum the son of Josiah, king of Judah, who reigned instead of Josiah his father, and who went out of this place: “He won’t return there any more.
KJVFor thus saithH559(H8804) the LORDH3068 touchingH413 ShallumH7967 the sonH1121 of JosiahH2977 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, which reignedH4427(H8802) instead of JosiahH2977 his fatherH1, which went forthH3318(H8804) out of this placeH4725; He shall not returnH7725(H8799) thither any more:
12 But he will die in the place where they have led him captive. He will see this land no more.”
KJVBut he shall dieH4191(H8799) in the placeH4725 whither they have led him captiveH1540(H8689), and shall seeH7200(H8799) this landH776 no more.
13 “Woe to him who builds his house by unrighteousness, and his rooms by injustice; who uses his neighbor’s service without wages, and doesn’t give him his hire;
KJVWoeH1945 unto him that buildethH1129(H8802) his houseH1004 byH3808 unrighteousnessH6664, and his chambersH5944 by wrongH4941; that useth his neighbour'sH7453 serviceH5647(H8799) without wagesH2600, and givethH5414(H8799) him not for his workH6467;
14 who says, ‘I will build myself a wide house and spacious rooms,’ and cuts out windows for himself, with a cedar ceiling, and painted with red.
KJVThat saithH559(H8802), I will buildH1129(H8799) me a wideH4060 houseH1004 and largeH7304(H8794) chambersH5944, and cutteth him outH7167(H8804) windowsH2474; and it is cieledH5603(H8803) with cedarH730, and paintedH4886(H8800) with vermilionH8350.
15 “Should you reign because you strive to excel in cedar? Didn’t your father eat and drink, and do justice and righteousness? Then it was well with him.
KJVShalt thou reignH4427(H8799), because thou closestH8474(H8808) thyself in cedarH730? did not thy fatherH1 eatH398(H8804) and drinkH8354(H8804), and doH6213(H8804) judgmentH4941 and justiceH6666, and then it was wellH2896 with him?
16 He judged the cause of the poor and needy; so then it was well. Wasn’t this to know me?” says Yahweh.
KJVHe judgedH1777(H8804) the causeH1779 of the poorH6041 and needyH34; then it was wellH2896 with him: was not this to knowH1847 me? saithH5002(H8803) the LORDH3068.
17 But your eyes and your heart are only for your covetousness, for shedding innocent blood, for oppression, and for doing violence.”
KJVBut thine eyesH5869 and thine heartH3820 are not but for thy covetousnessH1215, and for to shedH8210(H8800) innocentH5355 bloodH1818, and for oppressionH6233, and for violenceH4835, to doH6213(H8800) it.
18 Therefore Yahweh says concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah: “They won’t lament for him, saying, ‘Ah my brother!’ or, ‘Ah sister!’ They won’t lament for him, saying ‘Ah lord!’ or, ‘Ah his glory!’
KJVTherefore thus saithH559(H8804) the LORDH3068 concerning JehoiakimH3079 the sonH1121 of JosiahH2977 kingH4428 of JudahH3063; They shall not lamentH5594(H8799) for him, saying, AhH1945 my brotherH251! or, AhH1945 sisterH269! they shall not lamentH5594(H8799) for him, saying, AhH1945 lordH113! or, AhH1945 his gloryH1935!
19 He will be buried with the burial of a donkey, drawn and cast out beyond the gates of Jerusalem.”
KJVHe shall be buriedH6912(H8735) with the burialH6900 of an assH2543, drawnH5498(H8800) and cast forthH7993(H8687) beyondH1973 the gatesH8179 of JerusalemH3389.
20 “Go up to Lebanon, and cry out. Lift up your voice in Bashan, and cry from Abarim; for all your lovers have been destroyed.
KJVGo upH5927(H8798) to LebanonH3844, and cryH6817(H8798); and lift upH5414(H8798) thy voiceH6963 in BashanH1316, and cryH6817(H8798) from the passagesH5676: for all thy loversH157(H8764) are destroyedH7665(H8738).
21 I spoke to you in your prosperity, but you said, ‘I will not listen.’ This has been your way from your youth, that you didn’t obey my voice.
KJVI spakeH1696(H8765) unto thee in thy prosperityH7962; but thou saidstH559(H8804), I will not hearH8085(H8799). This hath been thy mannerH1870 from thy youthH5271, that thou obeyedstH8085(H8804) not my voiceH6963.
22 The wind will feed all your shepherds, and your lovers will go into captivity. Surely then you will be ashamed and confounded for all your wickedness.
KJVThe windH7307 shall eat upH7462(H8799) all thy pastorsH7462(H8802), and thy loversH157(H8764) shall goH3212(H8799) into captivityH7628: surely then shalt thou be ashamedH954(H8799) and confoundedH3637(H8738) for all thy wickednessH7451.
23 Inhabitant of Lebanon, who makes your nest in the cedars, how greatly to be pitied you will be when pangs come on you, the pain as of a woman in travail!
KJVO inhabitantH3427(H8802) of LebanonH3844, that makest thy nestH7077(H8794) in the cedarsH730, how graciousH2603(H8738) shalt thou be when pangsH2256 comeH935(H8800) upon thee, the painH2427 as of a woman in travailH3205(H8802)!
24 “As I live,” says Yahweh, “though Coniah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah were the signet on my right hand, I would still pluck you from there.
KJVAs I liveH2416, saithH5002(H8803) the LORDH3068, though ConiahH3659 the sonH1121 of JehoiakimH3079 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 were the signetH2368 upon my rightH3225 handH3027, yet would I pluckH5423(H8799) thee thence;
25 I would give you into the hand of those who seek your life, and into the hand of them of whom you are afraid, even into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of the Chaldeans.
KJVAnd I will giveH5414(H8804) thee into the handH3027 of them that seekH1245(H8764) thy lifeH5315, and into the handH3027 of them whose faceH6440 thou fearestH3016(H8801), even into the handH3027 of NebuchadrezzarH5019 kingH4428 of BabylonH894, and into the handH3027 of the ChaldeansH3778.
26 I will cast you out with your mother who bore you into another country, where you were not born; and there you will die.
KJVAnd I will cast thee outH2904(H8689), and thy motherH517 that bareH3205(H8804) thee, into anotherH312 countryH776, where ye were not bornH3205(H8795); and there shall ye dieH4191(H8799).
27 But to the land to which their soul longs to return, there they will not return.”
KJVBut to the landH776 whereunto they desireH5375(H8764)(H8676)H5315 to returnH7725(H8800), thither shall they not returnH7725(H8799).
28 Is this man Coniah a despised broken vessel? Is he a vessel in which no one delights? Why are they cast out, he and his offspring, and cast into a land which they don’t know?
KJVIs this manH376 ConiahH3659 a despisedH959(H8737) brokenH5310(H8803) idolH6089? is he a vesselH3627 wherein is no pleasureH2656? wherefore are they cast outH7993(H8717), he and his seedH2233, and are castH2904(H8717) into a landH776 which they knowH3045(H8804) not?
29 O earth, earth, earth, hear Yahweh’s word!
KJVO earthH776, earthH776, earthH776, hearH8085(H8798) the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068.
30 Yahweh says, “Record this man as childless, a man who will not prosper in his days; for no more will a man of his offspring prosper, sitting on David’s throne and ruling in Judah.”
KJVThus saithH559(H8804) the LORDH3068, WriteH3789(H8798) ye this manH376 childlessH6185, a manH1397 that shall not prosperH6743(H8799) in his daysH3117: for no manH376 of his seedH2233 shall prosperH6743(H8799), sittingH3427(H8802) upon the throneH3678 of DavidH1732, and rulingH4910(H8802) any more in JudahH3063.
