Jeremiah 24
WEB·Jeremiah 24
1Yahweh showed me, and behold, two baskets of figs were set before Yahweh’s temple, after Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, and the princes of Judah, with the craftsmen and smiths, from Jerusalem, and had brought them to Babylon.
KJVThe LORDH3068 shewedH7200(H8689) me, and, behold, twoH8147 basketsH1736 of figsH8384 were setH3259(H8716) beforeH6440 the templeH1964 of the LORDH3068, afterH310 that NebuchadrezzarH5019 kingH4428 of BabylonH894 had carried away captiveH1540(H8687) JeconiahH3204 the sonH1121 of JehoiakimH3079 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, and the princesH8269 of JudahH3063, with the carpentersH2796 and smithsH4525, from JerusalemH3389, and had broughtH935(H8686) them to BabylonH894.
2 One basket had very good figs, like the figs that are first-ripe; and the other basket had very bad figs, which could not be eaten, they were so bad.
KJVOneH259 basketH1731 had veryH3966 goodH2896 figsH8384, even like the figsH8384 that are first ripeH1073: and the otherH259 basketH1731 had veryH3966 naughtyH7451 figsH8384, which could not be eatenH398(H8735), they were so badH7455.
3 Then Yahweh asked me, “What do you see, Jeremiah?” I said, “Figs. The good figs are very good, and the bad are very bad, so bad that they can’t be eaten.”
KJVThen saidH559(H8799) the LORDH3068 unto me, What seestH7200(H8802) thou, JeremiahH3414? And I saidH559(H8799), FigsH8384; the goodH2896 figsH8384, veryH3966 goodH2896; and the evilH7451, veryH3966 evilH7451, that cannot be eatenH398(H8735), they are so evilH7455.
4 Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,
KJVAgain the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 came unto me, sayingH559(H8800),
5 “Yahweh, the God of Israel says: ‘Like these good figs, so I will regard the captives of Judah, whom I have sent out of this place into the land of the Chaldeans, as good.
KJVThus saithH559(H8804) the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478; Like these goodH2896 figsH8384, so will I acknowledgeH5234(H8686) them that are carried away captiveH1546 of JudahH3063, whom I have sentH7971(H8765) out of this placeH4725 into the landH776 of the ChaldeansH3778 for their goodH2896.
6 For I will set my eyes on them for good, and I will bring them again to this land. I will build them, and not pull them down. I will plant them, and not pluck them up.
KJVFor I will setH7760(H8804) mine eyesH5869 upon them for goodH2896, and I will bring them againH7725(H8689) to this landH776: and I will buildH1129(H8804) them, and not pull them downH2040(H8799); and I will plantH5193(H8804) them, and not pluck them upH5428(H8799).
7 I will give them a heart to know me, that I am Yahweh. They will be my people, and I will be their God; for they will return to me with their whole heart.
KJVAnd I will giveH5414(H8804) them an heartH3820 to knowH3045(H8800) me, that I am the LORDH3068: and they shall be my peopleH5971, and I will be their GodH430: for they shall returnH7725(H8799) unto me with their whole heartH3820.
8 “‘As the bad figs, which can’t be eaten, they are so bad,’ surely Yahweh says, ‘So I will give up Zedekiah the king of Judah, and his princes, and the remnant of Jerusalem who remain in this land, and those who dwell in the land of Egypt.
KJVAnd as the evilH7451 figsH8384, which cannot be eatenH398(H8735), they are so evilH7455; surely thus saithH559(H8804) the LORDH3068, So will I giveH5414(H8799) ZedekiahH6667 the kingH4428 of JudahH3063, and his princesH8269, and the residueH7611 of JerusalemH3389, that remainH7604(H8737) in this landH776, and them that dwellH3427(H8802) in the landH776 of EgyptH4714:
9 I will even give them up to be tossed back and forth among all the kingdoms of the earth for evil, to be a reproach and a proverb, a taunt and a curse, in all places where I will drive them.
KJVAnd I will deliverH5414(H8804) them to be removedH2189(H8675)H2113 into all the kingdomsH4467 of the earthH776 for their hurtH7451, to be a reproachH2781 and a proverbH4912, a tauntH8148 and a curseH7045, in all placesH4725 whither I shall driveH5080(H8686) them.
10 I will send the sword, the famine, and the pestilence among them, until they are consumed from off the land that I gave to them and to their fathers.’”
KJVAnd I will sendH7971(H8765) the swordH2719, the famineH7458, and the pestilenceH1698, among them, till they be consumedH8552(H8800) from off the landH127 that I gaveH5414(H8804) unto them and to their fathersH1.
