¹The word that came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying,

² “Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, ‘Write all the words that I have spoken to you in a book.

KJVThus speaketh^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068 God^H430 of Israel^H3478, saying^H559^(H8800), Write^H3789^(H8798) thee all the words^H1697 that I have spoken^H1696^(H8765) unto thee in a book^H5612.

³ For, behold, the days come,’ says Yahweh, ‘that I will reverse the captivity of my people Israel and Judah,’ says Yahweh. ‘I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they will possess it.’”

KJVFor, lo, the days^H3117 come^H935^(H8802), saith^H5002^(H8803) the LORD^H3068, that I will bring again^H7725^(H8804) the captivity^H7622 of my people^H5971 Israel^H3478 and Judah^H3063, saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068: and I will cause them to return^H7725^(H8689) to the land^H776 that I gave^H5414^(H8804) to their fathers^H1, and they shall possess^H3423^(H8804) it.

⁴ These are the words that Yahweh spoke concerning Israel and concerning Judah.

KJVAnd these are the words^H1697 that the LORD^H3068 spake^H1696^(H8765) concerning Israel^H3478 and concerning Judah^H3063.

⁵ For Yahweh says: “We have heard a voice of trembling; a voice of fear, and not of peace.

KJVFor thus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068; We have heard^H8085^(H8804) a voice^H6963 of trembling^H2731, of fear^H6343, and not of peace^H7965.

⁶ Ask now, and see whether a man travails with child. Why do I see every man with his hands on his waist, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned pale?

KJVAsk^H7592^(H8798) ye now, and see^H7200^(H8798) whether a man^H2145 doth travail with child^H3205^(H8802)? wherefore do I see^H7200^(H8804) every man^H1397 with his hands^H3027 on his loins^H2504, as a woman in travail^H3205^(H8802), and all faces^H6440 are turned^H2015^(H8738) into paleness^H3420?

⁷ Alas, for that day is great, so that none is like it! It is even the time of Jacob’s trouble; but he will be saved out of it.

KJVAlas^H1945! for that day^H3117 is great^H1419, so that^H369 none is like it: it is even the time^H6256 of Jacob's^H3290 trouble^H6869; but he shall be saved^H3467^(H8735) out of it.

⁸ It will come to pass in that day, says Yahweh of Armies, that I will break his yoke from off your neck, and will burst your bonds. Strangers will no more make them their bondservants;

KJVFor it shall come to pass in that day^H3117, saith^H5002^(H8803) the LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635, that I will break^H7665^(H8799) his yoke^H5923 from off thy neck^H6677, and will burst^H5423^(H8762) thy bonds^H4147, and strangers^H2114^(H8801) shall no more serve^H5647^(H8799) themselves of him:

⁹ but they will serve Yahweh their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up to them.

¹⁰ Therefore don’t be afraid, O Jacob my servant, says Yahweh. Don’t be dismayed, Israel. For, behold, I will save you from afar, and save your offspring from the land of their captivity. Jacob will return, and will be quiet and at ease. No one will make him afraid.

¹¹ For I am with you, says Yahweh, to save you; for I will make a full end of all the nations where I have scattered you, but I will not make a full end of you; but I will correct you in measure, and will in no way leave you unpunished.”

¹² For Yahweh says, “Your hurt is incurable. Your wound is grievous.

KJVFor thus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068, Thy bruise^H7667 is incurable^H605^(H8803), and thy wound^H4347 is grievous^H2470^(H8737).

¹³ There is no one to plead your cause, that you may be bound up. You have no healing medicines.

KJVThere is none to plead^H1777^(H8802) thy cause^H1779, that thou mayest be bound up^H4205: thou hast no healing^H8585 medicines^H7499.

¹⁴ All your lovers have forgotten you. They don’t seek you. For I have wounded you with the wound of an enemy, with the chastisement of a cruel one, for the greatness of your iniquity, because your sins were increased.

¹⁵ Why do you cry over your injury? Your pain is incurable. For the greatness of your iniquity, because your sins have increased, I have done these things to you.

KJVWhy criest^H2199^(H8799) thou for thine affliction^H7667? thy sorrow^H4341 is incurable^H605^(H8803) for the multitude^H7230 of thine iniquity^H5771: because thy sins^H2403 were increased^H6105^(H8804), I have done^H6213^(H8804) these things unto thee.

¹⁶ Therefore all those who devour you will be devoured. All your adversaries, everyone of them, will go into captivity. Those who plunder you will be plunder. I will make all who prey on you become prey.

¹⁷ For I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds,” says Yahweh, “because they have called you an outcast, saying, ‘It is Zion, whom no man seeks after.’”

¹⁸ Yahweh says: “Behold, I will reverse the captivity of Jacob’s tents, and have compassion on his dwelling places. The city will be built on its own hill, and the palace will be inhabited in its own place.

KJVThus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068; Behold, I will bring again^H7725^(H8802) the captivity^H7622 of Jacob's^H3290 tents^H168, and have mercy^H7355^(H8762) on his dwellingplaces^H4908; and the city^H5892 shall be builded^H1129^(H8738) upon her own heap^H8510, and the palace^H759 shall remain^H3427^(H8799) after the manner^H4941 thereof.

¹⁹ Thanksgiving will proceed out of them with the voice of those who make merry. I will multiply them, and they will not be few; I will also glorify them, and they will not be small.

²⁰ Their children also will be as before, and their congregation will be established before me. I will punish all who oppress them.

²¹ Their prince will be one of them, and their ruler will proceed from among them. I will cause him to draw near, and he will approach me; for who is he who has had boldness to approach me?” says Yahweh.

²² “You shall be my people, and I will be your God.

²³ Behold, Yahweh’s storm, his wrath, has gone out, a sweeping storm; it will burst on the head of the wicked.

KJVBehold, the whirlwind^H5591 of the LORD^H3068 goeth forth^H3318^(H8804) with fury^H2534, a continuing^H1641^(H8706) whirlwind^H5591: it shall fall with pain^H2342^(H8799) upon the head^H7218 of the wicked^H7563.

²⁴ The fierce anger of Yahweh will not return until he has accomplished, and until he has performed the intentions of his heart. In the latter days you will understand it.”

¹Now these are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem to the residue of the elders of the captivity, and to the priests, to the prophets, and to all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon,

³ by the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, (whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent to Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon). It said:

⁴ Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says to all the captives whom I have caused to be carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon:

KJVThus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635, the God^H430 of Israel^H3478, unto all that are carried away captives^H1473, whom I have caused to be carried away^H1540^(H8689) from Jerusalem^H3389 unto Babylon^H894;

⁵ “Build houses and dwell in them. Plant gardens and eat their fruit.

KJVBuild^H1129^(H8798) ye houses^H1004, and dwell^H3427^(H8798) in them; and plant^H5193^(H8798) gardens^H1593, and eat^H398^(H8798) the fruit^H6529 of them;

⁶ Take wives and father sons and daughters. Take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters. Multiply there, and don’t be diminished.

⁷ Seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to Yahweh for it; for in its peace you will have peace.”

⁸ For Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel says: “Don’t let your prophets who are among you and your diviners deceive you. Don’t listen to your dreams which you cause to be dreamed.

KJVFor thus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635, the God^H430 of Israel^H3478; Let not your prophets^H5030 and your diviners^H7080^(H8802), that be in the midst^H7130 of you, deceive^H5377^(H8686) you, neither hearken^H8085^(H8799) to your dreams^H2472 which ye cause to be dreamed^H2492^(H8688).

⁹ For they prophesy falsely to you in my name. I have not sent them,” says Yahweh.

¹⁰ For Yahweh says, “After seventy years are accomplished for Babylon, I will visit you and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.

KJVFor thus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068, That after^H6310 seventy^H7657 years^H8141 be accomplished^H4390^(H8800) at Babylon^H894 I will visit^H6485^(H8799) you, and perform^H6965^(H8689) my good^H2896 word^H1697 toward you, in causing you to return^H7725^(H8687) to this place^H4725.

¹¹ For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,” says Yahweh, “thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future.

¹² You shall call on me, and you shall go and pray to me, and I will listen to you.

¹³ You shall seek me and find me, when you search for me with all your heart.

¹⁴ I will be found by you,” says Yahweh, “and I will turn again your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places where I have driven you,” says Yahweh. “I will bring you again to the place from where I caused you to be carried away captive.”

¹⁵ Because you have said, “Yahweh has raised us up prophets in Babylon,”

¹⁶ Yahweh says concerning the king who sits on David’s throne, and concerning all the people who dwell in this city, your brothers who haven’t gone with you into captivity,

KJVKnow that thus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068 of the king^H4428 that sitteth^H3427^(H8802) upon the throne^H3678 of David^H1732, and of all the people^H5971 that dwelleth^H3427^(H8802) in this city^H5892, and of your brethren^H251 that are not gone forth^H3318^(H8804) with you into captivity^H1473;

¹⁷ Yahweh of Armies says: “Behold, I will send on them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like rotten figs that can’t be eaten, they are so bad.

KJVThus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635; Behold, I will send^H7971^(H8764) upon them the sword^H2719, the famine^H7458, and the pestilence^H1698, and will make^H5414^(H8804) them like vile^H8182 figs^H8384, that cannot be eaten^H398^(H8735), they are so evil^H7455.

¹⁸ I will pursue after them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence, and will deliver them to be tossed back and forth among all the kingdoms of the earth, to be an object of horror, an astonishment, a hissing, and a reproach among all the nations where I have driven them,

KJVAnd I will persecute^H7291^(H8804) them^H310 with the sword^H2719, with the famine^H7458, and with the pestilence^H1698, and will deliver^H5414^(H8804) them to be removed^H2189^(H8675)^H2113 to all the kingdoms^H4467 of the earth^H776, to be a curse^H423, and an astonishment^H8047, and an hissing^H8322, and a reproach^H2781, among all the nations^H1471 whither I have driven^H5080^(H8689) them:

¹⁹ because they have not listened to my words,” says Yahweh, “with which I sent to them my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them; but you would not hear,” says Yahweh.

²⁰ Hear therefore Yahweh’s word, all you captives whom I have sent away from Jerusalem to Babylon.

²¹ Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says concerning Ahab the son of Kolaiah, and concerning Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, who prophesy a lie to you in my name: “Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; and he will kill them before your eyes.

²² A curse will be taken up about them by all the captives of Judah who are in Babylon, saying, ‘Yahweh make you like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire;’

²³ because they have done foolish things in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbors’ wives, and have spoken words in my name falsely, which I didn’t command them. I am he who knows, and am witness,” says Yahweh.

²⁴ Concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite you shall speak, saying,

²⁵ “Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says, ‘Because you have sent letters in your own name to all the people who are at Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest, and to all the priests, saying,

KJVThus speaketh^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635, the God^H430 of Israel^H3478, saying^H559^(H8800), Because thou hast sent^H7971^(H8804) letters^H5612 in thy name^H8034 unto all the people^H5971 that are at Jerusalem^H3389, and to Zephaniah^H6846 the son^H1121 of Maaseiah^H4641 the priest^H3548, and to all the priests^H3548, saying^H559^(H8800),

²⁶ “Yahweh has made you priest in the place of Jehoiada the priest, that there may be officers in Yahweh’s house, for every man who is crazy and makes himself a prophet, that you should put him in the stocks and in shackles.

KJVThe LORD^H3068 hath made^H5414^(H8804) thee priest^H3548 in the stead of Jehoiada^H3077 the priest^H3548, that ye should be officers^H6496 in the house^H1004 of the LORD^H3068, for every man^H376 that is mad^H7696^(H8794), and maketh himself a prophet^H5012^(H8693), that thou shouldest put^H5414^(H8804) him in prison^H4115, and in the stocks^H6729.

²⁷ Now therefore, why have you not rebuked Jeremiah of Anathoth, who makes himself a prophet to you,

KJVNow therefore why hast thou not reproved^H1605^(H8804) Jeremiah^H3414 of Anathoth^H6069, which maketh himself a prophet^H5012^(H8693) to you?

²⁸ because he has sent to us in Babylon, saying, The captivity is long. Build houses, and dwell in them. Plant gardens, and eat their fruit?”’”

²⁹ Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the hearing of Jeremiah the prophet.

KJVAnd Zephaniah^H6846 the priest^H3548 read^H7121^(H8799) this letter^H5612 in the ears^H241 of Jeremiah^H3414 the prophet^H5030.

³⁰ Then Yahweh’s word came to Jeremiah, saying,

KJVThen came the word^H1697 of the LORD^H3068 unto Jeremiah^H3414, saying^H559^(H8800),

³¹ “Send to all of the captives, saying, ‘Yahweh says concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite: “Because Shemaiah has prophesied to you, and I didn’t send him, and he has caused you to trust in a lie,”

KJVSend^H7971^(H8798) to all them of the captivity^H1473, saying^H559^(H8800), Thus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068 concerning Shemaiah^H8098 the Nehelamite^H5161; Because that Shemaiah^H8098 hath prophesied^H5012^(H8738) unto you, and I sent^H7971^(H8804) him not, and he caused you to trust^H982^(H8686) in a lie^H8267:
