¹Moreover Yahweh’s word came to Jeremiah the second time, while he was still locked up in the court of the guard, saying,

² “Yahweh who does it, Yahweh who forms it to establish it—Yahweh is his name, says:

KJVThus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068 the maker^H6213^(H8802) thereof, the LORD^H3068 that formed^H3335^(H8802) it, to establish^H3559^(H8687) it; the LORD^H3068 is his name^H8034;

³ ‘Call to me, and I will answer you, and will show you great and difficult things, which you don’t know.’

KJVCall^H7121^(H8798) unto me, and I will answer^H6030^(H8799) thee, and shew^H5046^(H8686) thee great^H1419 and mighty things^H1219^(H8803), which thou knowest^H3045^(H8804) not.

⁴ For Yahweh, the God of Israel, says concerning the houses of this city and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah, which are broken down to make a defense against the mounds and against the sword:

KJVFor thus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068, the God^H430 of Israel^H3478, concerning the houses^H1004 of this city^H5892, and concerning the houses^H1004 of the kings^H4428 of Judah^H3063, which are thrown down^H5422^(H8803) by the mounts^H5550, and by the sword^H2719;

⁵ ‘While men come to fight with the Chaldeans, and to fill them with the dead bodies of men, whom I have killed in my anger and in my wrath, and for all whose wickedness I have hidden my face from this city,

KJVThey come^H935^(H8802) to fight^H3898^(H8736) with the Chaldeans^H3778, but it is to fill^H4390^(H8763) them with the dead bodies^H6297 of men^H120, whom I have slain^H5221^(H8689) in mine anger^H639 and in my fury^H2534, and for all whose wickedness^H7451 I have hid^H5641^(H8689) my face^H6440 from this city^H5892.

⁶ behold, I will bring it health and healing, and I will cure them; and I will reveal to them abundance of peace and truth.

KJVBehold, I will bring^H5927^(H8688) it health^H724 and cure^H4832, and I will cure^H7495^(H8804) them, and will reveal^H1540^(H8765) unto them the abundance^H6283 of peace^H7965 and truth^H571.

⁷ I will restore the fortunes of Judah and Israel, and will build them as at the first.

KJVAnd I will cause the captivity^H7622 of Judah^H3063 and the captivity^H7622 of Israel^H3478 to return^H7725^(H8689), and will build^H1129^(H8804) them, as at the first^H7223.

⁸ I will cleanse them from all their iniquity by which they have sinned against me. I will pardon all their iniquities by which they have sinned against me and by which they have transgressed against me.

⁹ This city will be to me for a name of joy, for praise, and for glory, before all the nations of the earth, which will hear all the good that I do to them, and will fear and tremble for all the good and for all the peace that I provide to it.’”

¹⁰ Yahweh says: “Yet again there will be heard in this place, about which you say, ‘It is waste, without man and without animal, even in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, that are desolate, without man and without inhabitant and without animal,’

KJVThus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068; Again there shall be heard^H8085^(H8735) in this place^H4725, which ye say^H559^(H8802) shall be desolate^H2720 without man^H120 and without beast^H929, even in the cities^H5892 of Judah^H3063, and in the streets^H2351 of Jerusalem^H3389, that are desolate^H8074^(H8737), without man^H120, and without inhabitant^H3427^(H8802), and without beast^H929,

¹¹ the voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the voice of those who say, ‘Give thanks to Yahweh of Armies, for Yahweh is good, for his loving kindness endures forever;’ who bring thanksgiving into Yahweh’s house. For I will cause the captivity of the land to be reversed as at the first,” says Yahweh.

For I will cause to return^H7725^(H8686) the captivity^H7622 of the land^H776, as at the first^H7223, saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068.

¹² Yahweh of Armies says: “Yet again there will be in this place, which is waste, without man and without animal, and in all its cities, a habitation of shepherds causing their flocks to lie down.

KJVThus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635; Again in this place^H4725, which is desolate^H2720 without man^H120 and without beast^H929, and in all the cities^H5892 thereof, shall be an habitation^H5116 of shepherds^H7462^(H8802) causing their flocks^H6629 to lie down^H7257^(H8688).

¹³ In the cities of the hill country, in the cities of the lowland, in the cities of the South, in the land of Benjamin, in the places around Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, the flocks will again pass under the hands of him who counts them,” says Yahweh.

¹⁴ “Behold, the days come,” says Yahweh, “that I will perform that good word which I have spoken concerning the house of Israel and concerning the house of Judah.

¹⁵ “In those days and at that time, I will cause a Branch of righteousness to grow up to David. He will execute justice and righteousness in the land.

KJVIn those days^H3117, and at that time^H6256, will I cause the Branch^H6780 of righteousness^H6666 to grow up^H6779^(H8686) unto David^H1732; and he shall execute^H6213^(H8804) judgment^H4941 and righteousness^H6666 in the land^H776.

¹⁶ In those days Judah will be saved, and Jerusalem will dwell safely. This is the name by which she will be called: Yahweh our righteousness.”

KJVIn those days^H3117 shall Judah^H3063 be saved^H3467^(H8735), and Jerusalem^H3389 shall dwell^H7931^(H8799) safely^H983: and this is the name wherewith she shall be called^H7121^(H8799), The LORD our righteousness^H3072.

¹⁷ For Yahweh says: “David will never lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel.

KJVFor thus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068; David^H1732 shall never^H3808 want^H3772^(H8735) a man^H376 to sit^H3427^(H8802) upon the throne^H3678 of the house^H1004 of Israel^H3478;

¹⁸ The Levitical priests won’t lack a man before me to offer burnt offerings, to burn meal offerings, and to do sacrifice continually.”

KJVNeither shall the priests^H3548 the Levites^H3881 want^H3772^(H8735) a man^H376 before^H6440 me to offer^H5927^(H8688) burnt offerings^H5930, and to kindle^H6999^(H8688) meat offerings^H4503, and to do^H6213^(H8802) sacrifice^H2077 continually^H3117.

¹⁹ Yahweh’s word came to Jeremiah, saying,

KJVAnd the word^H1697 of the LORD^H3068 came unto Jeremiah^H3414, saying^H559^(H8800),

²⁰ “Yahweh says: ‘If you can break my covenant of the day and my covenant of the night, so that there will not be day and night in their time,

KJVThus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068; If ye can break^H6565^(H8686) my covenant^H1285 of the day^H3117, and my covenant^H1285 of the night^H3915, and that there should not be day^H3119 and night^H3915 in their season^H6256;

²¹ then my covenant could also be broken with David my servant, that he won’t have a son to reign on his throne; and with the Levitical priests, my ministers.

KJVThen may also my covenant^H1285 be broken^H6565^(H8714) with David^H1732 my servant^H5650, that he should not have a son^H1121 to reign^H4427^(H8802) upon his throne^H3678; and with the Levites^H3881 the priests^H3548, my ministers^H8334^(H8764).

²² As the army of the sky can’t be counted, and the sand of the sea can’t be measured, so I will multiply the offspring of David my servant and the Levites who minister to me.’”

KJVAs the host^H6635 of heaven^H8064 cannot be numbered^H5608^(H8735), neither the sand^H2344 of the sea^H3220 measured^H4058^(H8735): so will I multiply^H7235^(H8686) the seed^H2233 of David^H1732 my servant^H5650, and the Levites^H3881 that minister^H8334^(H8764) unto me.

²³ Yahweh’s word came to Jeremiah, saying,

KJVMoreover the word^H1697 of the LORD^H3068 came to Jeremiah^H3414, saying^H559^(H8800),

²⁴ “Don’t consider what this people has spoken, saying, ‘Has Yahweh cast off the two families which he chose?’ Thus they despise my people, that they should be no more a nation before them.”

KJVConsiderest^H7200^(H8804) thou not what this people^H5971 have spoken^H1696^(H8765), saying^H559^(H8800), The two^H8147 families^H4940 which the LORD^H3068 hath chosen^H977^(H8804), he hath even cast them off^H3988^(H8799)? thus they have despised^H5006^(H8799) my people^H5971, that they should be no more a nation^H1471 before^H6440 them.

²⁵ Yahweh says: “If my covenant of day and night fails, if I have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth,

KJVThus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068; If my covenant^H1285 be not with day^H3119 and night^H3915, and if I have not appointed^H7760^(H8804) the ordinances^H2708 of heaven^H8064 and earth^H776;

²⁶ then I will also cast away the offspring of Jacob, and of David my servant, so that I will not take of his offspring to be rulers over the offspring of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; for I will cause their captivity to be reversed and will have mercy on them.”

¹This is the word that came to Jeremiah from Yahweh in the tenth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, which was the eighteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar.

² Now at that time the king of Babylon’s army was besieging Jerusalem. Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the guard, which was in the king of Judah’s house.

KJVFor then the king^H4428 of Babylon's^H894 army^H2428 besieged^H6696^(H8802) Jerusalem^H3389: and Jeremiah^H3414 the prophet^H5030 was shut up^H3607^(H8803) in the court^H2691 of the prison^H4307, which was in the king^H4428 of Judah's^H3063 house^H1004.

³ For Zedekiah king of Judah had shut him up, saying, “Why do you prophesy, and say, ‘Yahweh says, “Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will take it;

KJVFor Zedekiah^H6667 king^H4428 of Judah^H3063 had shut him up^H3607^(H8804), saying^H559^(H8800), Wherefore dost thou prophesy^H5012^(H8737), and say^H559^(H8800), Thus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068, Behold, I will give^H5414^(H8802) this city^H5892 into the hand^H3027 of the king^H4428 of Babylon^H894, and he shall take^H3920^(H8804) it;

⁴ and Zedekiah king of Judah won’t escape out of the hand of the Chaldeans, but will surely be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon, and will speak with him mouth to mouth, and his eyes will see his eyes;

KJVAnd Zedekiah^H6667 king^H4428 of Judah^H3063 shall not escape^H4422^(H8735) out of the hand^H3027 of the Chaldeans^H3778, but shall surely^H5414^(H8736) be delivered^H5414^(H8735) into the hand^H3027 of the king^H4428 of Babylon^H894, and shall speak^H1696^(H8765) with him mouth^H6310 to mouth^H6310, and his eyes^H5869 shall behold^H7200^(H8799) his eyes^H5869;

⁵ and he will bring Zedekiah to Babylon, and he will be there until I visit him,” says Yahweh, “though you fight with the Chaldeans, you will not prosper”’?”

⁶ Jeremiah said, “Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,

KJVAnd Jeremiah^H3414 said^H559^(H8799), The word^H1697 of the LORD^H3068 came unto me, saying^H559^(H8800),

⁷ ‘Behold, Hanamel the son of Shallum your uncle will come to you, saying, “Buy my field that is in Anathoth; for the right of redemption is yours to buy it.”’”

⁸ “So Hanamel my uncle’s son came to me in the court of the guard according to Yahweh’s word, and said to me, ‘Please buy my field that is in Anathoth, which is in the land of Benjamin; for the right of inheritance is yours, and the redemption is yours. Buy it for yourself.’ “Then I knew that this was Yahweh’s word.

⁹ I bought the field that was in Anathoth of Hanamel my uncle’s son, and weighed him the money, even seventeen shekels of silver.

¹⁰ I signed the deed, sealed it, called witnesses, and weighed the money in the balances to him.

¹¹ So I took the deed of the purchase, both that which was sealed, containing the terms and conditions, and that which was open;

KJVSo I took^H3947^(H8799) the evidence^H5612 of the purchase^H4736, both that which was sealed^H2856^(H8803) according to the law^H4687 and custom^H2706, and that which was open^H1540^(H8803):

¹² and I delivered the deed of the purchase to Baruch the son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, in the presence of Hanamel my uncle’s son, and in the presence of the witnesses who signed the deed of the purchase, before all the Jews who sat in the court of the guard.

¹³ “I commanded Baruch before them, saying,

KJVAnd I charged^H6680^(H8762) Baruch^H1263 before^H5869 them, saying^H559^(H8800),

¹⁴ Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘Take these deeds, this deed of the purchase which is sealed, and this deed which is open, and put them in an earthen vessel, that they may last many days.’

KJVThus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635, the God^H430 of Israel^H3478; Take^H3947^(H8800) these evidences^H5612, this evidence^H5612 of the purchase^H4736, both which is sealed^H2856^(H8803), and this evidence^H5612 which is open^H1540^(H8803); and put^H5414^(H8804) them in an earthen^H2789 vessel^H3627, that they may continue^H5975^(H8799) many^H7227 days^H3117.

¹⁵ For Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel says: ‘Houses and fields and vineyards will yet again be bought in this land.’

KJVFor thus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635, the God^H430 of Israel^H3478; Houses^H1004 and fields^H7704 and vineyards^H3754 shall be possessed again^H7069^(H8735) in this land^H776.

¹⁶ Now after I had delivered the deed of the purchase to Baruch the son of Neriah, I prayed to Yahweh, saying,

KJVNow when^H310 I had delivered^H5414^(H8800) the evidence^H5612 of the purchase^H4736 unto Baruch^H1263 the son^H1121 of Neriah^H5374, I prayed^H6419^(H8691) unto the LORD^H3068, saying^H559^(H8800),

¹⁷ “Ah Lord Yahweh! Behold, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for you.

KJVAh^H162 Lord^H136 GOD^H3069! behold, thou hast made^H6213^(H8804) the heaven^H8064 and the earth^H776 by thy great^H1419 power^H3581 and stretched out^H5186^(H8803) arm^H2220, and there is nothing^H1697 too hard^H6381^(H8735) for thee:

¹⁸ You show loving kindness to thousands, and repay the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them. The great, the mighty God, Yahweh of Armies is your name:

KJVThou shewest^H6213^(H8802) lovingkindness^H2617 unto thousands^H505, and recompensest^H7999^(H8764) the iniquity^H5771 of the fathers^H1 into the bosom^H2436 of their children^H1121 after^H310 them: the Great^H1419, the Mighty^H1368 God^H410, the LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635, is his name^H8034,

¹⁹ great in counsel, and mighty in work; whose eyes are open to all the ways of the children of men, to give everyone according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings;

²⁰ who performed signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, even to this day, both in Israel and among other men; and made yourself a name, as it is today;

²¹ and brought your people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs, with wonders, with a strong hand, with an outstretched arm, and with great terror;

KJVAnd hast brought forth^H3318^(H8686) thy people^H5971 Israel^H3478 out of the land^H776 of Egypt^H4714 with signs^H226, and with wonders^H4159, and with a strong^H2389 hand^H3027, and with a stretched out^H5186^(H8803) arm^H248, and with great^H1419 terror^H4172;

²² and gave them this land, which you swore to their fathers to give them, a land flowing with milk and honey.

KJVAnd hast given^H5414^(H8799) them this land^H776, which thou didst swear^H7650^(H8738) to their fathers^H1 to give^H5414^(H8800) them, a land^H776 flowing^H2100^(H8802) with milk^H2461 and honey^H1706;

²³ They came in and possessed it, but they didn’t obey your voice and didn’t walk in your law. They have done nothing of all that you commanded them to do. Therefore you have caused all this evil to come upon them.

KJVAnd they came in^H935^(H8799), and possessed^H3423^(H8799) it; but they obeyed^H8085^(H8804) not thy voice^H6963, neither walked^H1980^(H8804) in thy law^H8451; they have done^H6213^(H8804) nothing of all that thou commandedst^H6680^(H8765) them to do^H6213^(H8800): therefore thou hast caused all this evil^H7451 to come^H7122^(H8686) upon them:

²⁴ “Behold, siege ramps have been built against the city to take it. The city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans who fight against it, because of the sword, of the famine, and of the pestilence. What you have spoken has happened. Behold, you see it.

KJVBehold the mounts^H5550, they are come^H935^(H8804) unto the city^H5892 to take^H3920^(H8800) it; and the city^H5892 is given^H5414^(H8738) into the hand^H3027 of the Chaldeans^H3778, that fight^H3898^(H8737) against it, because^H6440 of the sword^H2719, and of the famine^H7458, and of the pestilence^H1698: and what thou hast spoken^H1696^(H8765) is come to pass; and, behold, thou seest^H7200^(H8802) it.

²⁵ You have said to me, Lord Yahweh, ‘Buy the field for money, and call witnesses;’ whereas the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.”

KJVAnd thou hast said^H559^(H8804) unto me, O Lord^H136 GOD^H3069, Buy^H7069^(H8798) thee the field^H7704 for money^H3701, and take^H5749^(H8685) witnesses^H5707; for the city^H5892 is given^H5414^(H8738) into the hand^H3027 of the Chaldeans^H3778.

²⁶ Then Yahweh’s word came to Jeremiah, saying,

KJVThen came the word^H1697 of the LORD^H3068 unto Jeremiah^H3414, saying^H559^(H8800),

²⁷ “Behold, I am Yahweh, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for me?

KJVBehold, I am the LORD^H3068, the God^H430 of all flesh^H1320: is there any thing^H1697 too hard^H6381^(H8735) for me?

²⁸ Therefore Yahweh says: Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the Chaldeans, and into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he will take it.

KJVTherefore thus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068; Behold, I will give^H5414^(H8802) this city^H5892 into the hand^H3027 of the Chaldeans^H3778, and into the hand^H3027 of Nebuchadrezzar^H5019 king^H4428 of Babylon^H894, and he shall take^H3920^(H8804) it:

²⁹ The Chaldeans, who fight against this city, will come and set this city on fire, and burn it with the houses on whose roofs they have offered incense to Baal, and poured out drink offerings to other gods, to provoke me to anger.

³⁶ Now therefore Yahweh, the God of Israel, says concerning this city, about which you say, “It is given into the hand of the king of Babylon by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence:”

⁴¹ Yes, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land assuredly with my whole heart and with my whole soul.”

⁴² For Yahweh says: “Just as I have brought all this great evil on this people, so I will bring on them all the good that I have promised them.

⁴³ Fields will be bought in this land, about which you say, ‘It is desolate, without man or animal. It is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.’

⁴⁴ Men will buy fields for money, sign the deeds, seal them, and call witnesses, in the land of Benjamin, and in the places around Jerusalem, in the cities of Judah, in the cities of the hill country, in the cities of the lowland, and in the cities of the South; for I will cause their captivity to be reversed,” says Yahweh.
