Ezekiel 17

WEB·Ezekiel 17
1Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,
KJVAnd the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 came unto me, sayingH559(H8800),
2 “Son of man, tell a riddle, and speak a parable to the house of Israel;
KJVSonH1121 of manH120, put forthH2330(H8798) a riddleH2420, and speakH4911(H8798) a parableH4912 unto the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478;
3 and say, ‘The Lord Yahweh says: “A great eagle with great wings and long feathers, full of feathers which had various colors, came to Lebanon and took the top of the cedar.
KJVAnd sayH559(H8804), Thus saithH559(H8804) the LordH136 GODH3069; A greatH1419 eagleH5404 with greatH1419 wingsH3671, longwingedH83H750, fullH4392 of feathersH5133, which had divers coloursH7553, cameH935(H8804) unto LebanonH3844, and tookH3947(H8799) the highest branchH6788 of the cedarH730:
4 He cropped off the topmost of its young twigs, and carried it to a land of traffic. He planted it in a city of merchants.
KJVHe cropped offH6998(H8804) the topH7218 of his young twigsH3242, and carriedH935(H8686) it into a landH776 of traffickH3667; he setH7760(H8804) it in a cityH5892 of merchantsH7402(H8802).
5 “‘“He also took some of the seed of the land and planted it in fruitful soil. He placed it beside many waters. He set it as a willow tree.
KJVHe tookH3947(H8799) also of the seedH2233 of the landH776, and plantedH5414(H8799) it in a fruitfulH2233 fieldH7704; he placedH3947(H8804) it by greatH7227 watersH4325, and setH7760(H8804) it as a willow treeH6851.
6 It grew and became a spreading vine of low stature, whose branches turned toward him, and its roots were under him. So it became a vine, produced branches, and shot out sprigs.
KJVAnd it grewH6779(H8799), and became a spreadingH5628(H8802) vineH1612 of lowH8217 statureH6967, whose branchesH1808 turnedH6437(H8800) toward him, and the rootsH8328 thereof were under him: so it became a vineH1612, and brought forthH6213(H8799) branchesH905, and shotH7971(H8762) forth sprigsH6288.
7 “‘“There was also another great eagle with great wings and many feathers. Behold, this vine bent its roots toward him, and shot out its branches toward him, from the ground where it was planted, that he might water it.
KJVThere was also anotherH259 greatH1419 eagleH5404 with greatH1419 wingsH3671 and manyH7227 feathersH5133: and, behold, this vineH1612 did bendH3719(H8804) her rootsH8328 toward him, and shot forthH7971(H8765) her branchesH1808 toward him, that he might waterH8248(H8687) it by the furrowsH6170 of her plantationH4302.
8 It was planted in a good soil by many waters, that it might produce branches and that it might bear fruit, that it might be a good vine.”’
KJVIt was plantedH8362(H8803) in a goodH2896 soilH7704 by greatH7227 watersH4325, that it might bring forthH6213(H8800) branchesH6057, and that it might bearH5375(H8800) fruitH6529, that it might be a goodlyH155 vineH1612.
9 “Say, ‘The Lord Yahweh says: “Will it prosper? Won’t he pull up its roots and cut off its fruit, that it may wither, that all its fresh springing leaves may wither? It can’t be raised from its roots by a strong arm or many people.
KJVSayH559(H8798) thou, Thus saithH559(H8804) the LordH136 GODH3069; Shall it prosperH6743(H8799)? shall he not pull upH5423(H8762) the rootsH8328 thereof, and cut offH7082(H8779) the fruitH6529 thereof, that it witherH3001(H8804)? it shall witherH3001(H8799) in all the leavesH2964 of her springH6780, even without greatH1419 powerH2220 or manyH7227 peopleH5971 to pluck it upH5375(H8800) by the rootsH8328 thereof.
10 Yes, behold, being planted, will it prosper? Won’t it utterly wither when the east wind touches it? It will wither in the ground where it grew.”’”
KJVYea, behold, being plantedH8362(H8803), shall it prosperH6743(H8799)? shall it not utterlyH3001(H8800) witherH3001(H8799), when the eastH6921 windH7307 touchethH5060(H8800) it? it shall witherH3001(H8799) in the furrowsH6170 where it grewH6780.
11 Moreover Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,
KJVMoreover the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 came unto me, sayingH559(H8800),
12 “Say now to the rebellious house, ‘Don’t you know what these things mean?’ Tell them, ‘Behold, the king of Babylon came to Jerusalem, and took its king, and its princes, and brought them to him to Babylon.
KJVSayH559(H8798) now to the rebelliousH4805 houseH1004, KnowH3045(H8804) ye not what these things mean? tellH559(H8798) them, Behold, the kingH4428 of BabylonH894 is comeH935(H8802) to JerusalemH3389, and hath takenH3947(H8799) the kingH4428 thereof, and the princesH8269 thereof, and ledH935(H8686) them with him to BabylonH894;
13 He took one of the royal offspring, and made a covenant with him. He also brought him under an oath, and took away the mighty of the land,
KJVAnd hath takenH3947(H8799) of the king'sH4410 seedH2233, and madeH3772(H8799) a covenantH1285 with him, and hath takenH935(H8686) an oathH423 of him: he hath also takenH3947(H8804) the mightyH352 of the landH776:
14 that the kingdom might be brought low, that it might not lift itself up, but that by keeping his covenant it might stand.
KJVThat the kingdomH4467 might be baseH8217, that it might not lift itself upH5375(H8692), but that by keepingH8104(H8800) of his covenantH1285 it might standH5975(H8800).
15 But he rebelled against him in sending his ambassadors into Egypt, that they might give him horses and many people. Will he prosper? Will he who does such things escape? Will he break the covenant, and still escape?
KJVBut he rebelledH4775(H8799) against him in sendingH7971(H8800) his ambassadorsH4397 into EgyptH4714, that they might giveH5414(H8800) him horsesH5483 and muchH7227 peopleH5971. Shall he prosperH6743(H8799)? shall he escapeH4422(H8735) that doethH6213(H8802) such things? or shall he breakH6565(H8689) the covenantH1285, and be deliveredH4422(H8738)?
16 “‘As I live,’ says the Lord Yahweh, ‘surely in the place where the king dwells who made him king, whose oath he despised, and whose covenant he broke, even with him in the middle of Babylon he will die.
KJVAs I liveH2416, saithH5002(H8803) the LordH136 GODH3069, surely in the placeH4725 where the kingH4428 dwelleth that made him kingH4427(H8688), whose oathH423 he despisedH959(H8804), and whose covenantH1285 he brakeH6565(H8689), even with him in the midstH8432 of BabylonH894 he shall dieH4191(H8799).
17 Pharaoh with his mighty army and great company won’t help him in the war, when they cast up mounds and build forts to cut off many persons.
KJVNeither shall PharaohH6547 with his mightyH1419 armyH2428 and greatH7227 companyH6951 makeH6213(H8799) for him in the warH4421, by casting upH8210(H8800) mountsH5550, and buildingH1129(H8800) fortsH1785, to cut offH3772(H8687) manyH7227 personsH5315:
18 For he has despised the oath by breaking the covenant; and behold, he had given his hand, and yet has done all these things. He won’t escape.
KJVSeeing he despisedH959(H8804) the oathH423 by breakingH6565(H8687) the covenantH1285, when, lo, he had givenH5414(H8804) his handH3027, and hath doneH6213(H8804) all these things, he shall not escapeH4422(H8735).
19 “Therefore the Lord Yahweh says: ‘As I live, I will surely bring on his own head my oath that he has despised and my covenant that he has broken.
KJVTherefore thus saithH559(H8804) the LordH136 GODH3069; As I liveH2416, surely mine oathH423 that he hath despisedH959(H8804), and my covenantH1285 that he hath brokenH6331(H8689), even it will I recompenseH5414(H8804) upon his own headH7218.
20 I will spread my net on him, and he will be taken in my snare. I will bring him to Babylon, and will enter into judgment with him there for his trespass that he has trespassed against me.
KJVAnd I will spreadH6566(H8804) my netH7568 upon him, and he shall be takenH8610(H8738) in my snareH4686, and I will bringH935(H8689) him to BabylonH894, and will pleadH8199(H8738) with him there for his trespassH4603(H8804) that he hath trespassedH4604 against me.
21 All his fugitives in all his bands will fall by the sword, and those who remain will be scattered toward every wind. Then you will know that I, Yahweh, have spoken it.’
KJVAnd all his fugitivesH4015 with all his bandsH102 shall fallH5307(H8799) by the swordH2719, and they that remainH7604(H8737) shall be scatteredH6566(H8735) toward all windsH7307: and ye shall knowH3045(H8804) that I the LORDH3068 have spokenH1696(H8765) it.
22 “The Lord Yahweh says: ‘I will also take some of the lofty top of the cedar, and will plant it. I will crop off from the topmost of its young twigs a tender one, and I will plant it on a high and lofty mountain.
KJVThus saithH559(H8804) the LordH136 GODH3069; I will also takeH3947(H8804) of the highest branchH6788 of the highH7311(H8802) cedarH730, and will setH5414(H8804) it; I will crop offH6998(H8799) from the topH7218 of his young twigsH3127 a tender oneH7390, and will plantH8362(H8804) it upon an highH1364 mountainH2022 and eminentH8524(H8803):
23 I will plant it in the mountain of the height of Israel; and it will produce boughs, and bear fruit, and be a good cedar. Birds of every kind will dwell in the shade of its branches.
KJVIn the mountainH2022 of the heightH4791 of IsraelH3478 will I plantH8362(H8799) it: and it shall bring forthH5375(H8804) boughsH6057, and bearH6213(H8804) fruitH6529, and be a goodlyH117 cedarH730: and under it shall dwellH7931(H8804) all fowlH6833 of every wingH3671; in the shadowH6738 of the branchesH1808 thereof shall they dwellH7931(H8799).
24 All the trees of the field will know that I, Yahweh, have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree flourish. “‘I, Yahweh, have spoken and have done it.’”
KJVAnd all the treesH6086 of the fieldH7704 shall knowH3045(H8804) that I the LORDH3068 have brought downH8213(H8689) the highH1364 treeH6086, have exaltedH1361(H8689) the lowH8217 treeH6086, have driedH3001(H8689) up the greenH3892 treeH6086, and have made the dryH3002 treeH6086 to flourishH6524(H8689): I the LORDH3068 have spokenH1696(H8765) and have doneH6213(H8804) it.
