Numbers 20
WEB·Numbers 20
1The children of Israel, even the whole congregation, came into the wilderness of Zin in the first month. The people stayed in Kadesh. Miriam died there, and was buried there.
KJVThen cameH935(H8799) the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478, even the whole congregationH5712, into the desertH4057 of ZinH6790 in the firstH7223 monthH2320: and the peopleH5971 abodeH3427(H8799) in KadeshH6946; and MiriamH4813 diedH4191(H8799) there, and was buriedH6912(H8735) there.
2 There was no water for the congregation; and they assembled themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.
KJVAnd there was no waterH4325 for the congregationH5712: and they gatheredH6950(H8735) themselves together against MosesH4872 and against AaronH175.
3 The people quarreled with Moses, and spoke, saying, “We wish that we had died when our brothers died before Yahweh!
KJVAnd the peopleH5971 chodeH7378(H8799) with MosesH4872, and spakeH559(H8799), sayingH559(H8800), Would God thatH3863 we had diedH1478(H8804) when our brethrenH251 diedH1478(H8800) beforeH6440 the LORDH3068!
4 Why have you brought Yahweh’s assembly into this wilderness, that we should die there, we and our animals?
KJVAnd why have ye brought upH935(H8689) the congregationH6951 of the LORDH3068 into this wildernessH4057, that we and our cattleH1165 should dieH4191(H8800) there?
5 Why have you made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in to this evil place? It is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink.”
KJVAnd wherefore have ye made us to come upH5927(H8689) out of EgyptH4714, to bringH935(H8687) us in unto this evilH7451 placeH4725? it is no placeH4725 of seedH2233, or of figsH8384, or of vinesH1612, or of pomegranatesH7416; neither is there any waterH4325 to drinkH8354(H8800).
6 Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly to the door of the Tent of Meeting, and fell on their faces. Yahweh’s glory appeared to them.
KJVAnd MosesH4872 and AaronH175 wentH935(H8799) from the presenceH6440 of the assemblyH6951 unto the doorH6607 of the tabernacleH168 of the congregationH4150, and they fellH5307(H8799) upon their facesH6440: and the gloryH3519 of the LORDH3068 appearedH7200(H8735) unto them.
7 Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
KJVAnd the LORDH3068 spakeH1696(H8762) unto MosesH4872, sayingH559(H8800),
8 “Take the rod, and assemble the congregation, you, and Aaron your brother, and speak to the rock before their eyes, that it pour out its water. You shall bring water to them out of the rock; so you shall give the congregation and their livestock drink.”
KJVTakeH3947(H8798) the rodH4294, and gatherH6950(H8685) thou the assemblyH5712 together, thou, and AaronH175 thy brotherH251, and speakH1696(H8765) ye unto the rockH5553 before their eyesH5869; and it shall give forthH5414(H8804) his waterH4325, and thou shalt bring forthH3318(H8689) to them waterH4325 out of the rockH5553: so thou shalt giveH8248 the congregationH5712 and their beastsH1165 drinkH8248(H8689).
9 Moses took the rod from before Yahweh, as he commanded him.
KJVAnd MosesH4872 tookH3947(H8799) the rodH4294 from beforeH6440 the LORDH3068, as he commandedH6680(H8765) him.
10 Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock, and he said to them, “Hear now, you rebels! Shall we bring water out of this rock for you?”
KJVAnd MosesH4872 and AaronH175 gatheredH6950(H8686) the congregationH6951 together beforeH6440 the rockH5553, and he saidH559(H8799) unto them, HearH8085(H8798) now, ye rebelsH4784(H8802); must we fetchH3318(H8686) you waterH4325 out of this rockH5553?
11 Moses lifted up his hand, and struck the rock with his rod twice, and water came out abundantly. The congregation and their livestock drank.
KJVAnd MosesH4872 lifted upH7311(H8686) his handH3027, and with his rodH4294 he smoteH5221(H8686) the rockH5553 twiceH6471: and the waterH4325 came outH3318(H8799) abundantlyH7227, and the congregationH5712 drankH8354(H8799), and their beastsH1165 also.
12 Yahweh said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you didn’t believe in me, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them.”
KJVAnd the LORDH3068 spakeH559(H8799) unto MosesH4872 and AaronH175, Because ye believedH539(H8689) me not, to sanctifyH6942(H8687) me in the eyesH5869 of the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478, therefore ye shall not bringH935(H8686) this congregationH6951 into the landH776 which I have givenH5414(H8804) them.
13 These are the waters of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove with Yahweh, and he was sanctified in them.
KJVThis isH1992 the waterH4325 of MeribahH4809; because the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 stroveH7378(H8804) with the LORDH3068, and he was sanctifiedH6942(H8735) in them.
14 Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom, saying: “Your brother Israel says: You know all the travail that has happened to us;
KJVAnd MosesH4872 sentH7971(H8799) messengersH4397 from KadeshH6946 unto the kingH4428 of EdomH123, Thus saithH559(H8804) thy brotherH251 IsraelH3478, Thou knowestH3045(H8804) all the travailH8513 that hath befallenH4672(H8804) us:
15 how our fathers went down into Egypt, and we lived in Egypt a long time. The Egyptians mistreated us and our fathers.
KJVHow our fathersH1 went downH3381(H8799) into EgyptH4714, and we have dweltH3427(H8799) in EgyptH4714 a longH7227 timeH3117; and the EgyptiansH4714 vexedH7489(H8686) us, and our fathersH1:
16 When we cried to Yahweh, he heard our voice, sent an angel, and brought us out of Egypt. Behold, we are in Kadesh, a city in the edge of your border.
KJVAnd when we criedH6817(H8799) unto the LORDH3068, he heardH8085(H8799) our voiceH6963, and sentH7971(H8799) an angelH4397, and hath brought us forthH3318(H8686) out of EgyptH4714: and, behold, we are in KadeshH6946, a cityH5892 in the uttermostH7097 of thy borderH1366:
17 “Please let us pass through your land. We will not pass through field or through vineyard, neither will we drink from the water of the wells. We will go along the king’s highway. We will not turn away to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed your border.”
KJVLet us passH5674(H8799), I pray thee, through thy countryH776: we will not passH5674(H8799) through the fieldsH7704, or through the vineyardsH3754, neither will we drinkH8354(H8799) of the waterH4325 of the wellsH875: we will goH3212(H8799) by the king'sH4428 high wayH1870, we will not turnH5186(H8799) to the right handH3225 nor to the leftH8040, until we have passedH5674(H8799) thy bordersH1366.
18 Edom said to him, “You shall not pass through me, lest I come out with the sword against you.”
KJVAnd EdomH123 saidH559(H8799) unto him, Thou shalt not passH5674(H8799) by me, lest I come outH3318(H8799) againstH7125(H8800) thee with the swordH2719.
19 The children of Israel said to him, “We will go up by the highway; and if we drink your water, I and my livestock, then I will give its price. Only let me, without doing anything else, pass through on my feet.”
KJVAnd the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 saidH559(H8799) unto him, We will goH5927(H8799) by the high wayH4546: and if I and my cattleH4735 drinkH8354(H8799) of thy waterH4325, then I will payH5414(H8804)H4377 for it: I will only, without doing any thingH1697 else, go throughH5674(H8799) on my feetH7272.
20 He said, “You shall not pass through.” Edom came out against him with many people, and with a strong hand.
KJVAnd he saidH559(H8799), Thou shalt not go throughH5674(H8799). And EdomH123 came outH3318(H8799) againstH7125(H8800) him with muchH3515 peopleH5971, and with a strongH2389 handH3027.
21 Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border, so Israel turned away from him.
KJVThus EdomH123 refusedH3985(H8762) to giveH5414(H8800) IsraelH3478 passageH5674(H8800) through his borderH1366: wherefore IsraelH3478 turned awayH5186(H8799) from him.
22 They traveled from Kadesh, and the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, came to Mount Hor.
KJVAnd the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478, even the whole congregationH5712, journeyedH5265(H8799) from KadeshH6946, and cameH935(H8799) unto mountH2022 HorH2023.
23 Yahweh spoke to Moses and Aaron in Mount Hor, by the border of the land of Edom, saying,
KJVAnd the LORDH3068 spakeH559(H8799) unto MosesH4872 and AaronH175 in mountH2022 HorH2023, by the coastH1366 of the landH776 of EdomH123, sayingH559(H8800),
24 “Aaron shall be gathered to his people; for he shall not enter into the land which I have given to the children of Israel, because you rebelled against my word at the waters of Meribah.
KJVAaronH175 shall be gatheredH622(H8735) unto his peopleH5971: for he shall not enterH935(H8799) into the landH776 which I have givenH5414(H8804) unto the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478, because ye rebelled againstH4784(H8804) my wordH6310 at the waterH4325 of MeribahH4809.
25 Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up to Mount Hor;
KJVTakeH3947(H8798) AaronH175 and EleazarH499 his sonH1121, and bring them upH5927(H8685) unto mountH2022 HorH2023:
26 and strip Aaron of his garments, and put them on Eleazar his son. Aaron shall be gathered, and shall die there.”
KJVAnd stripH6584(H8685) AaronH175 of his garmentsH899, and putH3847(H8689) them upon EleazarH499 his sonH1121: and AaronH175 shall be gatheredH622(H8735) unto his people, and shall dieH4191(H8804) there.
27 Moses did as Yahweh commanded. They went up onto Mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation.
KJVAnd MosesH4872 didH6213(H8799) as the LORDH3068 commandedH6680(H8765): and they went upH5927(H8799) into mountH2022 HorH2023 in the sightH5869 of all the congregationH5712.
28 Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them on Eleazar his son. Aaron died there on the top of the mountain, and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain.
KJVAnd MosesH4872 strippedH6584(H8686) AaronH175 of his garmentsH899, and putH3847(H8686) them upon EleazarH499 his sonH1121; and AaronH175 diedH4191(H8799) there in the topH7218 of the mountH2022: and MosesH4872 and EleazarH499 came downH3381(H8799) from the mountH2022.
29 When all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they wept for Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.
KJVAnd when all the congregationH5712 sawH7200(H8799) that AaronH175 was deadH1478(H8804), they mournedH1058(H8799) for AaronH175 thirtyH7970 daysH3117, even all the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478.
