¹Again he began to teach by the seaside. A great multitude was gathered to him, so that he entered into a boat in the sea and sat down. All the multitude were on the land by the sea.

² He taught them many things in parables, and told them in his teaching,

³ “Listen! Behold, the farmer went out to sow.

⁴ As he sowed, some seed fell by the road, and the birds came and devoured it.

KJVAnd^G2532 it came to pass^G1096^(G5633), as^G1722 he sowed^G4687^(G5721), some^G3739^G3303 fell^G4098^(G5627) by^G3844 the way side^G3598, and^G2532 the fowls^G4071 of the air^G3772 came^G2064^(G5627) and^G2532 devoured^G2719 it^G846 up^G2719^(G5627).

⁵ Others fell on the rocky ground, where it had little soil, and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of soil.

⁶ When the sun had risen, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.

⁷ Others fell among the thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.

⁸ Others fell into the good ground and yielded fruit, growing up and increasing. Some produced thirty times, some sixty times, and some one hundred times as much.”

⁹ He said, “Whoever has ears to hear, let him hear.”

¹⁰ When he was alone, those who were around him with the twelve asked him about the parables.

¹¹ He said to them, “To you is given the mystery of God’s Kingdom, but to those who are outside, all things are done in parables,

¹² that ‘seeing they may see and not perceive, and hearing they may hear and not understand, lest perhaps they should turn again, and their sins should be forgiven them.’”

¹³ He said to them, “Don’t you understand this parable? How will you understand all of the parables?

¹⁴ The farmer sows the word.

KJVThe sower^G4687^(G5723) soweth^G4687^(G5719) the word^G3056.

¹⁵ The ones by the road are the ones where the word is sown; and when they have heard, immediately Satan comes and takes away the word which has been sown in them.

KJVAnd^G1161 these^G3778 are they^G1526^(G5748) by^G3844 the way side^G3598, where^G3699 the word^G3056 is sown^G4687^(G5743); but^G2532 when^G3752 they have heard^G191^(G5661), Satan^G4567 cometh^G2064^(G5736) immediately^G2112, and^G2532 taketh away^G142^(G5719) the word^G3056 that was sown^G4687^(G5772) in^G1722 their^G846 hearts^G2588.

¹⁶ These in the same way are those who are sown on the rocky places, who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with joy.

¹⁷ They have no root in themselves, but are short-lived. When oppression or persecution arises because of the word, immediately they stumble.

KJVAnd^G2532 have^G2192^(G5719) no^G3756 root^G4491 in^G1722 themselves^G1438, and^G235 so endure^G1526^(G5748) but for a time^G4340: afterward^G1534, when affliction^G2347 or^G2228 persecution^G1375 ariseth^G1096^(G5637) for^G1223 the word's sake^G3056, immediately^G2112 they are offended^G4624^(G5743).

¹⁸ Others are those who are sown among the thorns. These are those who have heard the word,

KJVAnd^G2532 these^G3778 are^G1526^(G5748) they which are^G1526^(G5748) sown^G4687^(G5746) among^G1519 thorns^G173; such as^G3778 hear^G191^(G5723) the word^G3056,

¹⁹ and the cares of this age, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

KJVAnd^G2532 the cares^G3308 of this^G5127 world^G165, and^G2532 the deceitfulness^G539 of riches^G4149, and^G2532 the lusts^G1939 of^G4012 other things^G3062 entering in^G1531^(G5740), choke^G4846^(G5719) the word^G3056, and^G2532 it becometh^G1096^(G5736) unfruitful^G175.

²⁰ Those which were sown on the good ground are those who hear the word, accept it, and bear fruit, some thirty times, some sixty times, and some one hundred times.”

²¹ He said to them, “Is a lamp brought to be put under a basket or under a bed? Isn’t it put on a stand?

²² For there is nothing hidden except that it should be made known, neither was anything made secret but that it should come to light.

KJVFor^G1063 there is^G2076^(G5748) nothing^G3756 hid^G2927^G5100, which^G3739 shall^G5319 not^G3362 be manifested^G5319^(G5686); neither^G3761 was any thing kept^G1096^(G5633) secret^G614, but^G235 that^G2443 it should come^G2064^(G5632) abroad^G1519^G5318.

²³ If any man has ears to hear, let him hear.”

²⁴ He said to them, “Take heed what you hear. With whatever measure you measure, it will be measured to you; and more will be given to you who hear.

²⁵ For whoever has, to him more will be given; and he who doesn’t have, even that which he has will be taken away from him.”

²⁶ He said, “God’s Kingdom is as if a man should cast seed on the earth,

²⁷ and should sleep and rise night and day, and the seed should spring up and grow, though he doesn’t know how.

²⁸ For the earth bears fruit by itself: first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear.

KJVFor^G1063 the earth^G1093 bringeth forth fruit^G2592^(G5719) of herself^G844; first^G4412 the blade^G5528, then^G1534 the ear^G4719, after that^G1534 the full^G4134 corn^G4621 in^G1722 the ear^G4719.

²⁹ But when the fruit is ripe, immediately he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.”

KJVBut^G1161 when^G3752 the fruit^G2590 is brought forth^G3860^(G5632), immediately^G2112 he putteth in^G649^(G5719) the sickle^G1407, because^G3754 the harvest^G2326 is come^G3936^(G5758).

³⁰ He said, “How will we liken God’s Kingdom? Or with what parable will we illustrate it?

KJVAnd^G2532 he said^G3004^(G5707), Whereunto^G5101 shall we liken^G3666^(G5661) the kingdom^G932 of God^G2316? or^G2228 with^G1722 what^G4169 comparison^G3850 shall we compare^G3846^(G5632) it^G846?

³¹ It’s like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, though it is less than all the seeds that are on the earth,

KJVIt is like^G5613 a grain^G2848 of mustard seed^G4615, which^G3739, when^G3752 it is sown^G4687^(G5652) in^G1909 the earth^G1093, is less^G3398 than all^G3956 the seeds^G4690 that be^G2076^(G5748) in^G1909 the earth^G1093:

³² yet when it is sown, grows up and becomes greater than all the herbs, and puts out great branches, so that the birds of the sky can lodge under its shadow.”

³³ With many such parables he spoke the word to them, as they were able to hear it.

³⁴ Without a parable he didn’t speak to them; but privately to his own disciples he explained everything.

³⁵ On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let’s go over to the other side.”

³⁶ Leaving the multitude, they took him with them, even as he was, in the boat. Other small boats were also with him.

³⁷ A big wind storm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so much that the boat was already filled.

³⁸ He himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they woke him up and asked him, “Teacher, don’t you care that we are dying?”

³⁹ He awoke and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” The wind ceased and there was a great calm.

⁴⁰ He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? How is it that you have no faith?”

⁴¹ They were greatly afraid and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”

¹He entered again into the synagogue, and there was a man there whose hand was withered.

⁵ When he had looked around at them with anger, being grieved at the hardening of their hearts, he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was restored as healthy as the other.

⁶ The Pharisees went out, and immediately conspired with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him.

⁹ He spoke to his disciples that a little boat should stay near him because of the crowd, so that they wouldn’t press on him.

¹⁰ For he had healed many, so that as many as had diseases pressed on him that they might touch him.

¹¹ The unclean spirits, whenever they saw him, fell down before him and cried, “You are the Son of God!”

¹⁶ Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter);

¹⁷ James the son of Zebedee; and John, the brother of James, (whom he called Boanerges, which means, Sons of Thunder);

KJVAnd^G2532 James^G2385 the son^G3588 of Zebedee^G2199, and^G2532 John^G2491 the brother^G80 of James^G2385; and^G2532 he surnamed^G2007^(G5656)^G3686 them^G846 Boanerges^G993, which is^G3603, The sons^G5207 of thunder^G1027:

¹⁸ Andrew; Philip; Bartholomew; Matthew; Thomas; James, the son of Alphaeus; Thaddaeus; Simon the Zealot;

¹⁹ and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him. Then he came into a house.

²⁰ The multitude came together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread.

²¹ When his friends heard it, they went out to seize him; for they said, “He is insane.”
