Acts 11
WEB·Acts 11
1Now the apostles and the brothers who were in Judea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.
KJVAndG1161 the apostlesG652 andG2532 brethrenG80 that wereG5607(G5752) inG2596 JudaeaG2449 heardG191(G5656) thatG3754 the GentilesG1484 hadG1209 alsoG2532 receivedG1209(G5662) the wordG3056 of GodG2316.
2 When Peter had come up to Jerusalem, those who were of the circumcision contended with him,
KJVAndG2532 whenG3753 PeterG4074 was come upG305(G5627) toG1519 JerusalemG2414, they that were ofG1537 the circumcisionG4061 contendedG1252(G5710) withG4314 himG846,
3 saying, “You went in to uncircumcised men and ate with them!”
KJVSayingG3004(G5723),G3754 Thou wentest inG1525(G5627) toG4314 menG435 uncircumcisedG203G2192(G5723), andG2532 didst eatG4906(G5627) with themG846.
4 But Peter began, and explained to them in order, saying,
KJVButG1161 PeterG4074 rehearsed the matter from the beginningG756(G5671), and expoundedG1620(G5710) it by orderG2517 unto themG846, sayingG3004(G5723),
5 “I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision: a certain container descending, like it was a great sheet let down from heaven by four corners. It came as far as me.
KJVIG1473 wasG2252(G5713) inG1722 the cityG4172 of JoppaG2445 prayingG4336(G5740): andG2532 inG1722 a tranceG1611 I sawG1492(G5627) a visionG3705, A certainG5100 vesselG4632 descendG2597(G5723), as it had beenG5613 a greatG3173 sheetG3607, let downG2524(G5746) fromG1537 heavenG3772 by fourG5064 cornersG746; andG2532 it cameG2064(G5627) evenG891 to meG1700:
6 When I had looked intently at it, I considered, and saw the four-footed animals of the earth, wild animals, creeping things, and birds of the sky.
KJVUponG1519 the whichG3739 when I had fastened mine eyesG816(G5660), I consideredG2657(G5707), andG2532 sawG1492(G5627) fourfooted beastsG5074 of the earthG1093, andG2532 wild beastsG2342, andG2532 creeping thingsG2062, andG2532 fowlsG4071 of the airG3772.
7 I also heard a voice saying to me, ‘Rise, Peter, kill and eat!’
KJVAndG1161 I heardG191(G5656) a voiceG5456 sayingG3004(G5723) unto meG3427, AriseG450(G5631), PeterG4074; slayG2380(G5657) andG2532 eatG5315(G5628).
8 But I said, ‘Not so, Lord, for nothing unholy or unclean has ever entered into my mouth.’
KJVButG1161 I saidG2036(G5627), Not soG3365, LordG2962: forG3754 nothingG3956 commonG2839 orG2228 uncleanG169 hathG1525 at any timeG3763 enteredG1525(G5627) intoG1519 myG3450 mouthG4750.
9 But a voice answered me the second time out of heaven, ‘What God has cleansed, don’t you call unclean.’
KJVButG1161 the voiceG5456 answeredG611(G5662) meG3427 againG1537G1208 fromG1537 heavenG3772, WhatG3739 GodG2316 hath cleansedG2511(G5656), that callG2840 notG3361 thouG4771 commonG2840(G5720).
10 This was done three times, and all were drawn up again into heaven.
KJVAndG1161 thisG5124 was doneG1096(G5633)G1909 three timesG5151: andG2532 allG537 were drawn upG385(G5681) againG3825 intoG1519 heavenG3772.
11 Behold, immediately three men stood before the house where I was, having been sent from Caesarea to me.
KJVAndG2532, beholdG2400(G5628), immediatelyG1824 there wereG2186 threeG5140 menG435 alreadyG1824 comeG2186(G5627) untoG1909 the houseG3614 whereG1722G3739G3739 I wasG2252(G5713), sentG649(G5772) fromG575 CaesareaG2542 untoG4314 meG3165.
12 The Spirit told me to go with them without discriminating. These six brothers also accompanied me, and we entered into the man’s house.
KJVAndG1161 the SpiritG4151 badeG2036(G5627) meG3427 go withG4905(G5629) themG846, nothingG3367 doubtingG1252(G5734). MoreoverG1161G2532 theseG3778 sixG1803 brethrenG80 accompaniedG4862G2064(G5627) meG1698, andG2532 we enteredG1525(G5627) intoG1519 the man'sG435 houseG3624:
13 He told us how he had seen the angel standing in his house and saying to him, ‘Send to Joppa and get Simon, who is called Peter,
KJVAndG5037 he shewedG518(G5656) usG2254 howG4459 he had seenG1492(G5627) an angelG32 inG1722 hisG846 houseG3624, which stoodG2476(G5685) andG2532 saidG2036(G5631) unto himG846, SendG649(G5657) menG435 toG1519 JoppaG2445, andG2532 call forG3343(G5663) SimonG4613, whose surname isG1941(G5746) PeterG4074;
14 who will speak to you words by which you will be saved, you and all your house.’
KJVWhoG3739 shall tellG2980(G5692) theeG4314G4571 wordsG4487, wherebyG1722G3739 thouG4771 andG2532 allG3956 thyG4675 houseG3624 shall be savedG4982(G5701).
15 As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, even as on us at the beginning.
KJVAndG1161 asG1722 IG3165 beganG756(G5670) to speakG2980(G5721), the HolyG40 GhostG4151 fellG1968(G5627) onG1909 themG846, asG5618G2532 onG1909 usG2248 atG1722 the beginningG746.
16 I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, ‘John indeed baptized in water, but you will be baptized in the Holy Spirit.’
KJVThenG1161 remembered IG3415(G5681) the wordG4487 of the LordG2962, howG5613 that he saidG3004(G5707), JohnG2491 indeedG3303 baptizedG907(G5656) with waterG5204; butG1161 yeG5210 shall be baptizedG907(G5701) withG1722 the HolyG40 GhostG4151.
17 If then God gave to them the same gift as us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I, that I could withstand God?”
KJVForasmuchG1487 thenG3767 asG5613 GodG2316 gaveG1325(G5656) themG846 the likeG2470 giftG1431 asG2532 he did unto usG2254, who believedG4100(G5660) onG1909 the LordG2962 JesusG2424 ChristG5547;G1161 whatG5101 wasG2252(G5713) IG1473, that I couldG1415 withstandG2967(G5658) GodG2316?
18 When they heard these things, they held their peace and glorified God, saying, “Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life!”
KJVWhenG1161 they heardG191(G5660) these thingsG5023, they held their peaceG2270(G5656), andG2532 glorifiedG1392(G5707) GodG2316, sayingG3004(G5723), ThenG686 hathG1325 GodG2316 alsoG2534 to the GentilesG1484 grantedG1325(G5656) repentanceG3341 untoG1519 lifeG2222.
19 They therefore who were scattered abroad by the oppression that arose about Stephen traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch, speaking the word to no one except to Jews only.
KJVNowG3767G3303 they which were scattered abroadG1289(G5651) uponG575 the persecutionG2347 that aroseG1096(G5637) aboutG1909 StephenG4736 travelledG1330(G5627) as far asG2193 PheniceG5403, andG2532 CyprusG2954, andG2532 AntiochG490, preachingG2980(G5723) the wordG3056 to noneG3367 butG1508 unto the JewsG2453 onlyG3440.
20 But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who, when they had come to Antioch, spoke to the Hellenists, preaching the Lord Jesus.
KJVAndG1161 someG5100 ofG1537 themG846 wereG2258(G5713) menG435 of CyprusG2953 andG2532 CyreneG2956, whichG3748, when they were comeG1525(G5631) toG1519 AntiochG490, spakeG2980(G5707) untoG4314 the GreciansG1675, preachingG2097(G5734) the LordG2962 JesusG2424.
21 The hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number believed and turned to the Lord.
KJVAndG2532 the handG5495 of the LordG2962 wasG2258(G5713) withG3326 themG846: andG5037 a greatG4183 numberG706 believedG4100(G5660), and turnedG1994(G5656) untoG1909 the LordG2962.
22 The report concerning them came to the ears of the assembly which was in Jerusalem. They sent out Barnabas to go as far as Antioch,
KJVThenG1161 tidingsG3056 ofG4012 these thingsG846 cameG191(G5681) untoG1519 the earsG3775 of the churchG1577 whichG3588 was inG1722 JerusalemG2414: andG2532 they sent forthG1821(G5656) BarnabasG921, that he should goG1330(G5629) as far asG2193 AntiochG490.
23 who, when he had come, and had seen the grace of God, was glad. He exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they should remain near to the Lord.
KJVWhoG3739, when he cameG3854(G5637), andG2532 had seenG1492(G5631) the graceG5485 of GodG2316, was gladG5463(G5644), andG2532 exhortedG3870(G5707) them allG3956, that with purposeG4286 of heartG2588 they would cleave untoG4357(G5721) the LordG2962.
24 For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Spirit and of faith, and many people were added to the Lord.
KJVForG3754 he wasG2258(G5713) a goodG18 manG435, andG2532 fullG4134 of the HolyG40 GhostG4151 andG2532 of faithG4102: andG2532 muchG2425 peopleG3793 was addedG4369(G5681) unto the LordG2962.
25 Barnabas went out to Tarsus to look for Saul.
KJVThenG1161 departedG1831(G5627) BarnabasG921 toG1519 TarsusG5019, for to seekG327(G5658) SaulG4569:
26 When he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. For a whole year they were gathered together with the assembly, and taught many people. The disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.
KJVAndG2532 when he had foundG2147(G5631) himG846, he broughtG71(G5627) himG846 untoG1519 AntiochG490. AndG1161 it came to passG1096(G5633), that a wholeG3650 yearG1763 theyG846 assembled themselvesG4863(G5683) withG1722 the churchG1577, andG2532 taughtG1321(G5658) muchG2425 peopleG3793. AndG5037 the disciplesG3101 were calledG5537(G5658) ChristiansG5546 firstG4412 inG1722 AntiochG490.
27 Now in these days, prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch.
KJVAndG1161 inG1722 theseG5025 daysG2250 cameG2718(G5627) prophetsG4396 fromG575 JerusalemG2414 untoG1519 AntiochG490.
28 One of them named Agabus stood up and indicated by the Spirit that there should be a great famine all over the world, which also happened in the days of Claudius.
KJVAndG1161 there stood upG450(G5631) oneG1520 ofG1537 themG846 namedG3686 AgabusG13, and signifiedG4591(G5656) byG1223 the SpiritG4151 that there should beG3195(G5721)G1510(G5705) greatG3173 dearthG3042 throughoutG1909 allG3650 the worldG3625: whichG3748G2532 came to passG1096(G5633) in the days ofG1909 ClaudiusG2804 CaesarG2541.
29 As any of the disciples had plenty, each determined to send relief to the brothers who lived in Judea;
KJVThenG1161 the disciplesG3101, everyG1538 manG846 according toG2531 his abilityG2141(G5711)G5100, determinedG3724(G5656) to sendG3992(G5658) reliefG1248 untoG1519 the brethrenG80 which dweltG2730(G5723) inG1722 JudaeaG2449:
30 which they also did, sending it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.
KJVWhichG3739 alsoG2532 they didG4160(G5656), and sent itG649(G5660) toG4314 the eldersG4245 byG1223 the handsG5495 of BarnabasG921 andG2532 SaulG4569.
