WEB·Acts 9
1But Saul, still breathing threats and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest
KJVAndG1161 SaulG4569, yetG2089 breathing outG1709(G5723) threateningsG547 andG2532 slaughterG5408 againstG1519 the disciplesG3101 of the LordG2962, wentG4334(G5631) unto the high priestG749,
2 and asked for letters from him to the synagogues of Damascus, that if he found any who were of the Way, whether men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.
KJVAnd desiredG154(G5668) ofG3844 himG846 lettersG1992 toG1519 DamascusG1154 toG4314 the synagoguesG4864, thatG3704 ifG1437 he foundG2147(G5632) anyG5100 of this wayG3598, whetherG5037 they wereG5607(G5752) menG435 orG2532 womenG1135, he might bring themG71(G5632) boundG1210(G5772) untoG1519 JerusalemG2419.
3 As he traveled, he got close to Damascus, and suddenly a light from the sky shone around him.
KJVAndG1161 as heG846 journeyedG4198(G5738)G1722, he cameG1096(G5633) nearG1448(G5721) DamascusG1154: andG2532 suddenlyG1810 there shined round aboutG4015(G5656) himG846 a lightG5457 fromG575 heavenG3772:
4 He fell on the earth, and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”
KJVAndG2532 he fellG4098(G5631) toG1909 the earthG1093, and heardG191(G5656) a voiceG5456 sayingG3004(G5723) unto himG846, SaulG4549, SaulG4549, whyG5101 persecutest thouG1377(G5719) meG3165?
5 He said, “Who are you, Lord?” The Lord said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.
KJVAndG1161 he saidG2036(G5627), WhoG5101 art thouG1488(G5748), LordG2962? AndG1161 the LordG2962 saidG2036(G5627), IG1473 amG1510(G5748) JesusG2424 whomG3739 thouG4771 persecutestG1377(G5719): it is hardG4642 for theeG4671 to kickG2979(G5721) againstG4314 the pricksG2759.
6 But rise up and enter into the city, then you will be told what you must do.”
KJVAndG5037 he tremblingG5141(G5723) andG2532 astonishedG2284(G5723) saidG2036(G5627), LordG2962, whatG5101 wilt thou haveG2309(G5719) meG3165 to doG4160(G5658)? AndG2532 the LordG2962 said untoG4314 himG846, AriseG450(G5628), andG2532 goG1525(G5628) intoG1519 the cityG4172, andG2532 it shall be toldG2980(G5701) theeG4671 whatG5101 thouG4571 mustG1163(G5748) doG4160(G5721).
7 The men who traveled with him stood speechless, hearing the sound, but seeing no one.
KJVAndG1161 the menG435 whichG3588 journeyedG4922(G5723) with himG846 stoodG2476(G5715) speechlessG1769, hearingG191(G5723)G3303 a voiceG5456, butG1161 seeingG2334(G5723) no manG3367.
8 Saul arose from the ground, and when his eyes were opened, he saw no one. They led him by the hand and brought him into Damascus.
KJVAndG1161 SaulG4569 aroseG1453(G5681) fromG575 the earthG1093; andG1161 when hisG846 eyesG3788 were openedG455(G5772), he sawG991(G5707) no manG3762: butG1161 they ledG5496 himG846 by the handG5496(G5723), and broughtG1521(G5627) him intoG1519 DamascusG1154.
9 He was without sight for three days, and neither ate nor drank.
KJVAndG2532 he wasG2258(G5713) threeG5140 daysG2250 withoutG3361 sightG991(G5723), andG2532 neitherG3756 did eatG5315(G5627) norG3761 drinkG4095(G5627).
10 Now there was a certain disciple at Damascus named Ananias. The Lord said to him in a vision, “Ananias!” He said, “Behold, it’s me, Lord.”
KJVAndG1161 there wasG2258(G5713) a certainG5100 discipleG3101 atG1722 DamascusG1154, namedG3686 AnaniasG367; andG2532 toG4314 himG846 saidG2036(G5627) the LordG2962 inG1722 a visionG3705, AnaniasG367. AndG1161 he saidG2036(G5627), BeholdG2400(G5628), IG1473 am here, LordG2962.
11 The Lord said to him, “Arise and go to the street which is called Straight, and inquire in the house of Judah for one named Saul, a man of Tarsus. For behold, he is praying,
KJVAndG1161 the LordG2962 said untoG4314 himG846, AriseG450(G5631), and goG4198(G5676) intoG1909 the streetG4505 whichG3588 is calledG2564(G5746) StraightG2117, andG2532 enquireG2212(G5657) inG1722 the houseG3614 of JudasG2455 for one calledG3686 SaulG4569, of TarsusG5018: forG1063, beholdG2400(G5628), he prayethG4336(G5736),
12 and in a vision he has seen a man named Ananias coming in and laying his hands on him, that he might receive his sight.”
KJVAndG2532 hath seenG1492(G5627) inG1722 a visionG3705 a manG435 namedG3686 AnaniasG367 coming inG1525(G5631), andG2532 puttingG2007 his handG5495 onG2007(G5631) himG846, thatG3704 he might receive his sightG308(G5661).
13 But Ananias answered, “Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much evil he did to your saints at Jerusalem.
KJVThenG1161 AnaniasG367 answeredG611(G5662), LordG2962, I have heardG191(G5754) byG575 manyG4183 ofG4012 thisG5127 manG435, how muchG3745 evilG2556 he hath doneG4160(G5656) to thyG4675 saintsG40 atG1722 JerusalemG2419:
14 Here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on your name.”
KJVAndG2532 hereG5602 he hathG2192(G5719) authorityG1849 fromG3844 the chief priestsG749 to bindG1210(G5658) allG3956 that callG1941(G5734) on thyG4675 nameG3686.
15 But the Lord said to him, “Go your way, for he is my chosen vessel to bear my name before the nations and kings, and the children of Israel.
KJVButG1161 the LordG2962 saidG2036(G5627) untoG4314 himG846, Go thy wayG4198(G5737): forG3754 heG3778 isG2076(G5748) a chosenG1589 vesselG4632 unto meG3427, to bearG941(G5658) myG3450 nameG3686 beforeG1799 the GentilesG1484, andG2532 kingsG935, andG5037 the childrenG5207 of IsraelG2474:
16 For I will show him how many things he must suffer for my name’s sake.”
KJVForG1063 IG1473 will shewG5263(G5692) himG846 how great thingsG3745 heG846 mustG1163(G5748) sufferG3958(G5629) forG5228 myG3450 name's sakeG3686G5228.
17 Ananias departed and entered into the house. Laying his hands on him, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord, who appeared to you on the road by which you came, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.”
KJVAndG1161 AnaniasG367 went his wayG565(G5627), andG2532 enteredG1525(G5627) intoG1519 the houseG3614; andG2532 puttingG2007(G5631) his handsG5495 onG1909 himG846 saidG2036(G5627), BrotherG80 SaulG4549, the LordG2962, even JesusG2424, that appearedG3700(G5685) unto theeG4671 inG1722 the wayG3598 asG3739 thou camestG2064(G5711), hath sentG649(G5758) meG3165, thatG3704 thou mightest receive thy sightG308(G5661), andG2532 be filled withG4130(G5686) the HolyG40 GhostG4151.
18 Immediately something like scales fell from his eyes, and he received his sight. He arose and was baptized.
KJVAndG2532 immediatelyG2112 there fellG634(G5627) fromG575 hisG846 eyesG3788 asG5616 it had been scalesG3013: and he received sightG308(G5656) forthwithG3916, andG5037 aroseG450(G5631), andG2532 was baptizedG907(G5681).
19 He took food and was strengthened. Saul stayed several days with the disciples who were at Damascus.
KJVAndG2532 when he had receivedG2983(G5631) meatG5160, he was strengthenedG1765(G5656). ThenG1161 wasG1096(G5633) SaulG4569 certainG5100 daysG2250 withG3326 the disciplesG3101 which were atG1722 DamascusG1154.
20 Immediately in the synagogues he proclaimed the Christ, that he is the Son of God.
KJVAndG2532 straightwayG2112 he preachedG2784(G5707) ChristG5547 inG1722 the synagoguesG4864, thatG3754 heG3778 isG2076(G5748) the SonG5207 of GodG2316.
21 All who heard him were amazed, and said, “Isn’t this he who in Jerusalem made havoc of those who called on this name? And he had come here intending to bring them bound before the chief priests!”
KJVButG1161 allG3956 that heardG191(G5723) him were amazedG1839(G5710), andG2532 saidG3004(G5707); IsG2076(G5748) notG3756 thisG3778 he that destroyedG4199(G5660) them whichG3588 called onG1941(G5734) thisG5124 nameG3686 inG1722 JerusalemG2419, andG2532 cameG2064(G5715) hitherG5602 forG1519 thatG5124 intentG1519, thatG2443 he might bringG71(G5632) themG846 boundG1210(G5772) untoG1909 the chief priestsG749?
22 But Saul increased more in strength, and confounded the Jews who lived at Damascus, proving that this is the Christ.
KJVButG1161 SaulG4569 increasedG1743 the moreG3123 in strengthG1743(G5712), andG2532 confoundedG4797(G5707) the JewsG2453 whichG3588 dweltG2730(G5723) atG1722 DamascusG1154, provingG4822(G5723) thatG3754 thisG3778 isG2076(G5748) very ChristG5547.
23 When many days were fulfilled, the Jews conspired together to kill him,
KJVAndG1161 afterG5613 that manyG2425 daysG2250 were fulfilledG4137(G5712), the JewsG2453 took counselG4823(G5668) to killG337(G5629) himG846:
24 but their plot became known to Saul. They watched the gates both day and night that they might kill him,
KJVButG1161 theirG846 laying awaitG1917 was knownG1097(G5681) of SaulG4569. AndG5037 they watchedG3906(G5707) the gatesG4439 dayG2250 andG2532 nightG3571 toG3704 killG337(G5661) himG846.
25 but his disciples took him by night and let him down through the wall, lowering him in a basket.
KJVThenG1161 the disciplesG3101 tookG2983(G5631) himG846 by nightG3571, and let him downG2524(G5656)G5465(G5660) byG1223 the wallG5038 inG1722 a basketG4711.
26 When Saul had come to Jerusalem, he tried to join himself to the disciples; but they were all afraid of him, not believing that he was a disciple.
KJVAndG1161 when SaulG4569 was comeG3854(G5637) toG1519 JerusalemG2419, he assayedG3987(G5711) to join himselfG2853(G5745) to the disciplesG3101: butG2532 they wereG5399 allG3956 afraidG5399(G5711) of himG846, and believedG4100(G5723) notG3361 thatG3754 he wasG2076(G5748) a discipleG3101.
27 But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles, and declared to them how he had seen the Lord on the way, and that he had spoken to him, and how at Damascus he had preached boldly in the name of Jesus.
KJVButG1161 BarnabasG921 tookG1949(G5637) himG846, and broughtG71(G5627) him toG4314 the apostlesG652, andG2532 declaredG1334(G5662) unto themG846 howG4459 he had seenG1492(G5627) the LordG2962 inG1722 the wayG3598, andG2532 thatG3754 he had spokenG2980(G5656) to himG846, andG2532 howG4459 he had preached boldlyG3955(G5662) atG1722 DamascusG1154 inG1722 the nameG3686 of JesusG2424.
28 He was with them entering into Jerusalem,
KJVAndG2532 he wasG2258(G5713) withG3326 themG846 coming inG1531(G5740) andG2532 going outG1607(G5740) atG1722 JerusalemG2419.
29 preaching boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus. He spoke and disputed against the Hellenists, but they were seeking to kill him.
KJVAndG2532 he spakeG2980(G5707) boldlyG3955(G5740) inG1722 the nameG3686 of the LordG2962 JesusG2424, andG5037G2532 disputedG4802(G5707) againstG4314 the GreciansG1675: butG1161 they went aboutG2021(G5707) to slayG337(G5629) himG846.
30 When the brothers knew it, they brought him down to Caesarea and sent him off to Tarsus.
KJVWhich whenG1161 the brethrenG80 knewG1921(G5631), they broughtG2609 himG846 downG2609(G5627) toG1519 CaesareaG2542, andG2532 sentG1821 himG846 forthG1821(G5656) toG1519 TarsusG5019.
31 So the assemblies throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria had peace and were built up. They were multiplied, walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit.
KJVThenG3303G3767 hadG2192(G5707) the churchesG1577 restG1515 throughoutG2596 allG3650 JudaeaG2449 andG2532 GalileeG1056 andG2532 SamariaG4540, and were edifiedG3618(G5746); andG2532 walking inG4198(G5740) the fearG5401 of the LordG2962, andG2532 in the comfortG3874 of the HolyG40 GhostG4151, were multipliedG4129(G5712).
32 As Peter went throughout all those parts, he came down also to the saints who lived at Lydda.
KJVAndG1161 it cameG1096(G5633) to pass, asG1330 PeterG4074 passed throughoutG1330(G5740)G1223 allG3956 quarters, he came downG2718(G5629) alsoG2532 toG4314 the saintsG40 whichG3588 dweltG2730(G5723) at LyddaG3069.
33 There he found a certain man named Aeneas, who had been bedridden for eight years because he was paralyzed.
KJVAndG1161 thereG1563 he foundG2147(G5627) a certainG5100 manG444 namedG3686 AeneasG132, which had keptG2621(G5740)G1909 his bedG2895G1537 eightG3638 yearsG2094, andG3739 wasG2258(G5713) sick of the palsyG3886(G5772).
34 Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you. Get up and make your bed!” Immediately he arose.
KJVAndG2532 PeterG4074 saidG2036(G5627) unto himG846, AeneasG132, JesusG2424 ChristG5547 makethG2390 theeG4571 wholeG2390(G5736): ariseG450(G5628), andG2532 makeG4766 thyG4572 bedG4766(G5657). AndG2532 he aroseG450(G5627) immediatelyG2112.
35 All who lived at Lydda and in Sharon saw him, and they turned to the Lord.
KJVAndG2532 allG3956 that dweltG2730(G5723) at LyddaG3069 andG2532 SaronG4565 sawG1492(G5627) himG846, andG3748 turnedG1994(G5656) toG1909 the LordG2962.
36 Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which when translated means Dorcas. This woman was full of good works and acts of mercy which she did.
KJVNowG1161 there wasG2258(G5713) atG1722 JoppaG2445 a certainG5100 discipleG3102 namedG3686 TabithaG5000, whichG3739 by interpretationG1329(G5746) is calledG3004(G5743) DorcasG1393: this womanG3778(G5625)G846 wasG2258(G5713) fullG4134 of goodG18 worksG2041 andG2532 almsdeedsG1654 whichG3739 she didG4160(G5707).
37 In those days, she became sick and died. When they had washed her, they laid her in an upper room.
KJVAndG1161 it came to passG1096(G5633) inG1722 thoseG1565 daysG2250, that she was sickG770(G5660), and diedG599(G5629): whom whenG1161 theyG846 had washedG3068(G5660)G846, they laidG5087(G5656) her inG1722 an upper chamberG5253.
38 As Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, hearing that Peter was there, sent two men to him, imploring him not to delay in coming to them.
KJVAndG1161 forasmuch asG5607(G5752) LyddaG3069 was nighG1451 to JoppaG2445, and the disciplesG3101 had heardG191(G5660) thatG3754 PeterG4074 wasG2076(G5748) thereG1722G846, they sentG649(G5656) untoG4314 himG846 twoG1417 menG435, desiringG3870(G5723) him that he wouldG3635 notG3361 delayG3635(G5658) to comeG1330(G5629) toG2193 themG846.
39 Peter got up and went with them. When he had come, they brought him into the upper room. All the widows stood by him weeping, and showing the tunics and other garments which Dorcas had made while she was with them.
KJVThenG1161 PeterG4074 aroseG450(G5631) and went withG4905(G5627) themG846. When heG3739 was comeG3854(G5637), they brought himG321(G5627) intoG1519 the upper chamberG5253: andG2532 allG3956 the widowsG5503 stood byG3936(G5656) himG846 weepingG2799(G5723), andG2532 shewingG1925(G5734) the coatsG5509 andG2532 garmentsG2440 whichG3745 DorcasG1393 madeG4160(G5707), while she wasG5607(G5752) withG3326 themG846.
40 Peter sent them all out, and knelt down and prayed. Turning to the body, he said, “Tabitha, get up!” She opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter, she sat up.
KJVButG1161 PeterG4074 putG1544(G5631) them allG3956 forthG1854, and kneeled downG5087(G5631)G1119, and prayedG4336(G5662); andG2532 turningG1994(G5660) him toG4314 the bodyG4983 saidG2036(G5627), TabithaG5000, ariseG450(G5628). AndG1161 she openedG455(G5656) herG846 eyesG3788: andG2532 when she sawG1492(G5631) PeterG4074, she sat upG339(G5656).
41 He gave her his hand and raised her up. Calling the saints and widows, he presented her alive.
KJVAndG1161 he gaveG1325(G5631) herG846 his handG5495, and liftedG450 herG846 upG450(G5656), andG1161 when he had calledG5455(G5660) the saintsG40 andG2532 widowsG5503, presentedG3936(G5656) herG846 aliveG2198(G5723).
42 This became known throughout all Joppa, and many believed in the Lord.
KJVAndG1161 it wasG1096(G5633) knownG1110 throughoutG2596 allG3650 JoppaG2445; andG2532 manyG4183 believedG4100(G5656) inG1909 the LordG2962.
43 He stayed many days in Joppa with a tanner named Simon.
KJVAndG1161 it came to passG1096(G5633), that heG846 tarriedG3306(G5658) manyG2425 daysG2250 inG1722 JoppaG2445 withG3844 oneG5100 SimonG4613 a tannerG1038.
