1 Kings 14
WEB·1 Kings 14
1At that time Abijah the son of Jeroboam became sick.
KJVAt that timeH6256 AbijahH29 the sonH1121 of JeroboamH3379 fell sickH2470(H8804).
2 Jeroboam said to his wife, “Please get up and disguise yourself, so that you won’t be recognized as Jeroboam’s wife. Go to Shiloh. Behold, Ahijah the prophet is there, who said that I would be king over this people.
KJVAnd JeroboamH3379 saidH559(H8799) to his wifeH802, AriseH6965(H8798), I pray thee, and disguiseH8138(H8690) thyself, that thou be not knownH3045(H8799) to be the wifeH802 of JeroboamH3379; and getH1980(H8804) thee to ShilohH7887: behold, there is AhijahH281 the prophetH5030, which toldH1696(H8765) me that I should be kingH4428 over this peopleH5971.
3 Take with you ten loaves of bread, some cakes, and a jar of honey, and go to him. He will tell you what will become of the child.”
KJVAnd takeH3947(H8804) with theeH3027 tenH6235 loavesH3899, and cracknelsH5350, and a cruseH1228 of honeyH1706, and goH935(H8804) to him: he shall tellH5046(H8686) thee what shall become of the childH5288.
4 Jeroboam’s wife did so, and arose and went to Shiloh, and came to Ahijah’s house. Now Ahijah could not see, for his eyes were set by reason of his age.
KJVAnd Jeroboam'sH3379 wifeH802 did soH6213(H8799), and aroseH6965(H8799), and wentH3212(H8799) to ShilohH7887, and cameH935(H8799) to the houseH1004 of AhijahH281. But AhijahH281 couldH3201(H8804) not seeH7200(H8800); for his eyesH5869 were setH6965(H8804) by reason of his ageH7869.
5 Yahweh said to Ahijah, “Behold, Jeroboam’s wife is coming to inquire of you concerning her son, for he is sick. Tell her such and such; for it will be, when she comes in, that she will pretend to be another woman.”
KJVAnd the LORDH3068 saidH559(H8804) unto AhijahH281, Behold, the wifeH802 of JeroboamH3379 comethH935(H8802) to askH1875(H8800) a thingH1697 of thee for her sonH1121; for he is sickH2470(H8802): thusH2090 and thus shalt thou sayH1696(H8762) unto her: for it shall be, when she cometh inH935(H8800), that she shall feign herself to be anotherH5234(H8693) woman.
6 So when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet as she came in at the door, he said, “Come in, Jeroboam’s wife! Why do you pretend to be another? For I am sent to you with heavy news.
KJVAnd it was so, when AhijahH281 heardH8085(H8800) the soundH6963 of her feetH7272, as she came inH935(H8802) at the doorH6607, that he saidH559(H8799), Come inH935(H8798), thou wifeH802 of JeroboamH3379; why feignest thou thyself to be anotherH5234(H8693)? for I am sentH7971(H8803) to thee with heavyH7186 tidings.
7 Go, tell Jeroboam, ‘Yahweh, the God of Israel, says: “Because I exalted you from among the people, and made you prince over my people Israel,
KJVGoH3212(H8798), tellH559(H8798) JeroboamH3379, Thus saithH559(H8804) the LORDH3068 GodH430 of IsraelH3478, Forasmuch asH3282 I exaltedH7311(H8689) thee from amongH8432 the peopleH5971, and madeH5414(H8799) thee princeH5057 over my peopleH5971 IsraelH3478,
8 and tore the kingdom away from David’s house, and gave it to you; and yet you have not been as my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in my eyes,
KJVAnd rentH7167 the kingdomH4467 awayH7167(H8799) from the houseH1004 of DavidH1732, and gaveH5414(H8799) it thee: and yet thou hast not been as my servantH5650 DavidH1732, who keptH8104(H8804) my commandmentsH4687, and who followedH1980(H8804)H310 me with all his heartH3824, to doH6213(H8800) that only which was rightH3477 in mine eyesH5869;
9 but have done evil above all who were before you, and have gone and made for yourself other gods, molten images, to provoke me to anger, and have cast me behind your back,
KJVBut hast doneH6213(H8800) evilH7489(H8686) above all that were beforeH6440 thee: for thou hast goneH3212(H8799) and madeH6213(H8799) thee otherH312 godsH430, and molten imagesH4541, to provoke me to angerH3707(H8687), and hast castH7993(H8689) me behindH310 thy backH1458:
10 therefore, behold, I will bring evil on the house of Jeroboam, and will cut off from Jeroboam everyone who urinates on a wall, he who is shut up and he who is left at large in Israel, and will utterly sweep away the house of Jeroboam, as a man sweeps away dung until it is all gone.
KJVTherefore, behold, I will bringH935(H8688) evilH7451 upon the houseH1004 of JeroboamH3379, and will cut offH3772(H8689) from JeroboamH3379 him that pissethH8366(H8688) against the wallH7023, and him that is shut upH6113(H8803) and leftH5800(H8803) in IsraelH3478, and will take awayH1197(H8765) the remnantH310 of the houseH1004 of JeroboamH3379, as a man taketh awayH1197(H8762) dungH1557, till it be all goneH8552(H8800).
11 The dogs will eat whoever belongs to Jeroboam who dies in the city; and the birds of the sky will eat whoever dies in the field, for Yahweh has spoken it.”’
KJVHim that diethH4191(H8801) of JeroboamH3379 in the cityH5892 shall the dogsH3611 eatH398(H8799); and him that diethH4191(H8801) in the fieldH7704 shall the fowlsH5775 of the airH8064 eatH398(H8799): for the LORDH3068 hath spokenH1696(H8765) it.
12 Arise therefore, and go to your house. When your feet enter into the city, the child will die.
KJVAriseH6965(H8798) thou therefore, getH3212(H8798) thee to thine own houseH1004: and when thy feetH7272 enterH935(H8800) into the cityH5892, the childH3206 shall dieH4191(H8804).
13 All Israel will mourn for him and bury him; for he only of Jeroboam will come to the grave, because in him there is found some good thing toward Yahweh, the God of Israel, in the house of Jeroboam.
KJVAnd all IsraelH3478 shall mournH5594(H8804) for him, and buryH6912(H8804) him: for he only of JeroboamH3379 shall comeH935(H8799) to the graveH6913, because in him there is foundH4672(H8738) some goodH2896 thingH1697 toward the LORDH3068 GodH430 of IsraelH3478 in the houseH1004 of JeroboamH3379.
14 Moreover Yahweh will raise up a king for himself over Israel who will cut off the house of Jeroboam. This is the day! What? Even now.
KJVMoreover the LORDH3068 shall raise him upH6965(H8689) a kingH4428 over IsraelH3478, who shall cut offH3772(H8686) the houseH1004 of JeroboamH3379 that dayH3117: but what? even now.
15 For Yahweh will strike Israel, as a reed is shaken in the water; and he will root up Israel out of this good land which he gave to their fathers, and will scatter them beyond the River, because they have made their Asherah poles, provoking Yahweh to anger.
KJVFor the LORDH3068 shall smiteH5221(H8689) IsraelH3478, as a reedH7070 is shakenH5110(H8799) in the waterH4325, and he shall root upH5428(H8804) IsraelH3478 out of this goodH2896 landH127, which he gaveH5414(H8804) to their fathersH1, and shall scatterH2219(H8765) them beyondH5676 the riverH5104, because they have madeH6213(H8804) their grovesH842, provoking the LORDH3068 to angerH3707(H8688).
16 He will give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, which he has sinned, and with which he has made Israel to sin.”
KJVAnd he shall giveH5414 IsraelH3478 upH5414(H8799) becauseH1558 of the sinsH2403 of JeroboamH3379, who did sinH2398(H8804), and who made IsraelH3478 to sinH2398(H8689).
17 Jeroboam’s wife arose and departed, and came to Tirzah. As she came to the threshold of the house, the child died.
KJVAnd Jeroboam'sH3379 wifeH802 aroseH6965(H8799), and departedH3212(H8799), and cameH935(H8799) to TirzahH8656: and when she cameH935(H8802) to the thresholdH5592 of the doorH1004, the childH5288 diedH4191(H8804);
18 All Israel buried him and mourned for him, according to Yahweh’s word, which he spoke by his servant Ahijah the prophet.
KJVAnd they buriedH6912(H8799) him; and all IsraelH3478 mournedH5594(H8799) for him, according to the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068, which he spakeH1696(H8765) by the handH3027 of his servantH5650 AhijahH281 the prophetH5030.
19 The rest of the acts of Jeroboam, how he fought and how he reigned, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.
KJVAnd the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of JeroboamH3379, how he warredH3898(H8738), and how he reignedH4427(H8804), behold, they are writtenH3789(H8803) in the bookH5612 of the chroniclesH1697H3117 of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478.
20 The days which Jeroboam reigned were twenty two years; then he slept with his fathers, and Nadab his son reigned in his place.
KJVAnd the daysH3117 which JeroboamH3379 reignedH4427(H8804) were twoH8147 and twentyH6242 yearsH8141: and he sleptH7901(H8799) with his fathersH1, and NadabH5070 his sonH1121 reignedH4427(H8799) in his stead.
21 Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah. Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which Yahweh had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. His mother’s name was Naamah the Ammonitess.
KJVAnd RehoboamH7346 the sonH1121 of SolomonH8010 reignedH4427(H8804) in JudahH3063. RehoboamH7346 was fortyH705 and oneH259 yearsH8141 oldH1121 when he began to reignH4427(H8800), and he reignedH4427(H8804) seventeenH7651H6240 yearsH8141 in JerusalemH3389, the cityH5892 which the LORDH3068 did chooseH977(H8804) out of all the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478, to putH7760(H8800) his nameH8034 there. And his mother'sH517 nameH8034 was NaamahH5279 an AmmonitessH5985.
22 Judah did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins which they committed, above all that their fathers had done.
KJVAnd JudahH3063 didH6213(H8799) evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LORDH3068, and they provoked him to jealousyH7065(H8762) with their sinsH2403 which they had committedH2398(H8804), above all that their fathersH1 had doneH6213(H8804).
23 For they also built for themselves high places, sacred pillars, and Asherah poles on every high hill and under every green tree.
KJVFor they also builtH1129(H8799) them high placesH1116, and imagesH4676, and grovesH842, on every highH1364 hillH1389, and under every greenH7488 treeH6086.
24 There were also sodomites in the land. They did according to all the abominations of the nations which Yahweh drove out before the children of Israel.
KJVAnd there were also sodomitesH6945 in the landH776: and they didH6213(H8804) according to all the abominationsH8441 of the nationsH1471 which the LORDH3068 cast outH3423(H8689) beforeH6440 the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478.
25 In the fifth year of King Rehoboam, Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem;
KJVAnd it came to pass in the fifthH2549 yearH8141 of kingH4428 RehoboamH7346, that ShishakH7895 kingH4428 of EgyptH4714 came upH5927(H8804) against JerusalemH3389:
26 and he took away the treasures of Yahweh’s house and the treasures of the king’s house. He even took away all of it, including all the gold shields which Solomon had made.
KJVAnd he took awayH3947(H8799) the treasuresH214 of the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068, and the treasuresH214 of the king'sH4428 houseH1004; he even took awayH3947(H8804) all: and he took awayH3947(H8799) all the shieldsH4043 of goldH2091 which SolomonH8010 had madeH6213(H8804).
27 King Rehoboam made shields of bronze in their place, and committed them to the hands of the captains of the guard, who guarded the door of the king’s house.
KJVAnd kingH4428 RehoboamH7346 madeH6213(H8799) in their stead brasenH5178 shieldsH4043, and committedH6485(H8689) them unto the handsH3027 of the chiefH8269 of the guardH7323(H8801), which keptH8104(H8802) the doorH6607 of the king'sH4428 houseH1004.
28 It was so, that as often as the king went into Yahweh’s house, the guard bore them, and brought them back into the guard room.
KJVAnd it was so, whenH1767 the kingH4428 wentH935(H8800) into the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068, that the guardH7323(H8801) bareH5375(H8799) them, and brought them backH7725(H8689) into the guardH7323(H8801) chamberH8372.
29 Now the rest of the acts of Rehoboam, and all that he did, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
KJVNow the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of RehoboamH7346, and all that he didH6213(H8804), are they not writtenH3789(H8803) in the bookH5612 of the chroniclesH1697H3117 of the kingsH4428 of JudahH3063?
30 There was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam continually.
KJVAnd there was warH4421 between RehoboamH7346 and JeroboamH3379 all their daysH3117.
31 Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in David’s city. His mother’s name was Naamah the Ammonitess. Abijam his son reigned in his place.
KJVAnd RehoboamH7346 sleptH7901(H8799) with his fathersH1, and was buriedH6912(H8735) with his fathersH1 in the cityH5892 of DavidH1732. And his mother'sH517 nameH8034 was NaamahH5279 an AmmonitessH5985. And AbijamH38 his sonH1121 reignedH4427(H8799) in his stead.
