¹Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he began to reign. He reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.

² He did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, according to all that Jehoiakim had done.

KJVAnd he did^H6213^(H8799) that which was evil^H7451 in the eyes^H5869 of the LORD^H3068, according to all that Jehoiakim^H3079 had done^H6213^(H8804).

³ For through Yahweh’s anger this happened in Jerusalem and Judah, until he had cast them out from his presence. Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.

⁴ In the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came, he and all his army, against Jerusalem, and encamped against it; and they built forts against it round about.

⁵ So the city was besieged to the eleventh year of King Zedekiah.

⁶ In the fourth month, in the ninth day of the month, the famine was severe in the city, so that there was no bread for the people of the land.

⁷ Then a breach was made in the city, and all the men of war fled, and went out of the city by night by the way of the gate between the two walls, which was by the king’s garden. Now the Chaldeans were against the city all around. The men of war went toward the Arabah,

⁸ but the army of the Chaldeans pursued the king, and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho; and all his army was scattered from him.

⁹ Then they took the king, and carried him up to the king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Hamath; and he pronounced judgment on him.

¹⁰ The king of Babylon killed the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes. He also killed all the princes of Judah in Riblah.

¹¹ He put out the eyes of Zedekiah; and the king of Babylon bound him in fetters, and carried him to Babylon, and put him in prison until the day of his death.

¹⁴ All the army of the Chaldeans, who were with the captain of the guard, broke down all the walls of Jerusalem all around.

¹⁵ Then Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried away captive of the poorest of the people, and the rest of the people who were left in the city, and those who fell away, who defected to the king of Babylon, and the rest of the multitude.

¹⁶ But Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard left of the poorest of the land to be vineyard keepers and farmers.

¹⁷ The Chaldeans broke the pillars of bronze that were in Yahweh’s house and the bases and the bronze sea that were in Yahweh’s house in pieces, and carried all of their bronze to Babylon.

KJVAlso the pillars^H5982 of brass^H5178 that were in the house^H1004 of the LORD^H3068, and the bases^H4350, and the brasen^H5178 sea^H3220 that was in the house^H1004 of the LORD^H3068, the Chaldeans^H3778 brake^H7665^(H8765), and carried^H5375^(H8799) all the brass^H5178 of them to Babylon^H894.

¹⁸ They also took away the pots, the shovels, the snuffers, the basins, the spoons, and all the vessels of bronze with which they ministered.

¹⁹ The captain of the guard took away the cups, the fire pans, the basins, the pots, the lamp stands, the spoons, and the bowls; that which was of gold, as gold, and that which was of silver, as silver.

²⁰ They took the two pillars, the one sea, and the twelve bronze bulls that were under the bases, which King Solomon had made for Yahweh’s house. The bronze of all these vessels was without weight.

²¹ As for the pillars, the height of the one pillar was eighteen cubits; and a line of twelve cubits encircled it; and its thickness was four fingers. It was hollow.

²² A capital of bronze was on it; and the height of the one capital was five cubits, with network and pomegranates on the capital all around, all of bronze. The second pillar also had the same, with pomegranates.

KJVAnd a chapiter^H3805 of brass^H5178 was upon it; and the height^H6967 of one^H259 chapiter^H3805 was five^H2568 cubits^H520, with network^H7639 and pomegranates^H7416 upon the chapiters^H3805 round about^H5439, all of brass^H5178. The second^H8145 pillar^H5982 also and the pomegranates^H7416 were like unto these.

²³ There were ninety-six pomegranates on the sides; all the pomegranates were one hundred on the network all around.

KJVAnd there were ninety^H8673 and six^H8337 pomegranates^H7416 on a side^H7307; and all the pomegranates^H7416 upon the network^H7639 were an hundred^H3967 round about^H5439.

²⁴ The captain of the guard took Seraiah the chief priest, and Zephaniah the second priest, and the three keepers of the threshold,

KJVAnd the captain^H7227 of the guard^H2876 took^H3947^(H8799) Seraiah^H8304 the chief^H7218 priest^H3548, and Zephaniah^H6846 the second^H4932 priest^H3548, and the three^H7969 keepers^H8104^(H8802) of the door^H5592:

²⁵ and out of the city he took an officer who was set over the men of war; and seven men of those who saw the king’s face, who were found in the city; and the scribe of the captain of the army, who mustered the people of the land; and sixty men of the people of the land, who were found in the middle of the city.

²⁶ Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard took them, and brought them to the king of Babylon to Riblah.

²⁷ The king of Babylon struck them, and put them to death at Riblah in the land of Hamath. So Judah was carried away captive out of his land.

²⁸ This is the number of the people whom Nebuchadnezzar carried away captive: in the seventh year, three thousand twenty-three Jews;

¹Yahweh says: “Behold, I will raise up against Babylon, and against those who dwell in Lebkamai, a destroying wind.

² I will send to Babylon strangers, who will winnow her. They will empty her land; for in the day of trouble they will be against her all around.

³ Against him who bends, let the archer bend his bow, also against him who lifts himself up in his coat of mail. Don’t spare her young men! Utterly destroy all her army!

⁴ They will fall down slain in the land of the Chaldeans, and thrust through in her streets.

⁵ For Israel is not forsaken, nor Judah, by his God, by Yahweh of Armies; though their land is full of guilt against the Holy One of Israel.

⁶ “Flee out of the middle of Babylon! Everyone save his own life! Don’t be cut off in her iniquity, for it is the time of Yahweh’s vengeance. He will give to her a recompense.

⁷ Babylon has been a golden cup in Yahweh’s hand, who made all the earth drunk. The nations have drunk of her wine; therefore the nations have gone mad.

⁸ Babylon has suddenly fallen and been destroyed! Wail for her! Take balm for her pain. Perhaps she may be healed.

⁹ “We would have healed Babylon, but she is not healed. Forsake her, and let’s each go into his own country; for her judgment reaches to heaven, and is lifted up even to the skies.

¹⁰ ‘Yahweh has produced our righteousness. Come, and let’s declare in Zion the work of Yahweh our God.’

¹¹ “Make the arrows sharp! Hold the shields firmly! Yahweh has stirred up the spirit of the kings of the Medes, because his purpose is against Babylon, to destroy it; for it is the vengeance of Yahweh, the vengeance of his temple.

¹² Set up a standard against the walls of Babylon! Make the watch strong! Set the watchmen, and prepare the ambushes; for Yahweh has both purposed and done that which he spoke concerning the inhabitants of Babylon.

¹³ You who dwell on many waters, abundant in treasures, your end has come, the measure of your covetousness.

¹⁴ Yahweh of Armies has sworn by himself, saying, ‘Surely I will fill you with men, as with locusts, and they will lift up a shout against you.’

¹⁵ “He has made the earth by his power. He has established the world by his wisdom. By his understanding he has stretched out the heavens.

¹⁶ When he utters his voice, there is a roar of waters in the heavens, and he causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth. He makes lightning for the rain, and brings the wind out of his treasuries.

¹⁷ “Every man has become stupid and without knowledge. Every goldsmith is disappointed by his image, for his molten images are falsehood, and there is no breath in them.

¹⁸ They are vanity, a work of delusion. In the time of their visitation, they will perish.

¹⁹ The portion of Jacob is not like these, for he formed all things, including the tribe of his inheritance. Yahweh of Armies is his name.

²⁰ “You are my battle ax and weapons of war. With you I will break the nations into pieces. With you I will destroy kingdoms.

KJVThou art my battle axe^H4661 and weapons^H3627 of war^H4421: for with thee will I break in pieces^H5310^(H8765) the nations^H1471, and with thee will I destroy^H7843^(H8689) kingdoms^H4467;

²¹ With you I will break in pieces the horse and his rider.

KJVAnd with thee will I break in pieces^H5310^(H8765) the horse^H5483 and his rider^H7392^(H8802); and with thee will I break in pieces^H5310^(H8765) the chariot^H7393 and his rider^H7392^(H8802);

²² With you I will break in pieces the chariot and him who rides therein. With you I will break in pieces man and woman. With you I will break in pieces the old man and the youth. With you I will break in pieces the young man and the virgin.

⁴² The sea has come up on Babylon. She is covered with the multitude of its waves.
