Genesis 12
WEB·Genesis 12
1Now Yahweh said to Abram, “Leave your country, and your relatives, and your father’s house, and go to the land that I will show you.
KJVNow the LORDH3068 had saidH559(H8799) unto AbramH87, Get thee outH3212(H8798) of thy countryH776, and from thy kindredH4138, and from thy father'sH1 houseH1004, unto a landH776 that I will shewH7200(H8686) thee:
2 I will make of you a great nation. I will bless you and make your name great. You will be a blessing.
KJVAnd I will make of theeH6213(H8799) a greatH1419 nationH1471, and I will blessH1288(H8762) thee, and makeH1431 thy nameH8034 greatH1431(H8762); and thou shalt be a blessingH1293:
3 I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who treats you with contempt. All the families of the earth will be blessed through you.”
KJVAnd I will blessH1288(H8762) them that blessH1288(H8764) thee, and curseH779(H8799) him that cursethH7043(H8764) thee: and in thee shall all familiesH4940 of the earthH127 be blessedH1288(H8738).
4 So Abram went, as Yahweh had told him. Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.
KJVSo AbramH87 departedH3212(H8799), as the LORDH3068 had spokenH1696(H8765) unto him; and LotH3876 wentH3212(H8799) with him: and AbramH87 was seventyH7657H8141 and fiveH2568 yearsH8141 oldH1121 when he departedH3318(H8800) out of HaranH2771.
5 Abram took Sarai his wife, Lot his brother’s son, all their possessions that they had gathered, and the people whom they had acquired in Haran, and they went to go into the land of Canaan. They entered into the land of Canaan.
KJVAnd AbramH87 tookH3947(H8799) SaraiH8297 his wifeH802, and LotH3876 his brother'sH251 sonH1121, and all their substanceH7399 that they had gatheredH7408(H8804), and the soulsH5315 that they had gottenH6213(H8804) in HaranH2771; and they went forthH3318(H8799) to goH3212(H8800) into the landH776 of CanaanH3667; and into the landH776 of CanaanH3667 they cameH935(H8799).
6 Abram passed through the land to the place of Shechem, to the oak of Moreh. At that time, Canaanites were in the land.
KJVAnd AbramH87 passed throughH5674(H8799) the landH776 unto the placeH4725 of SichemH7927, unto the plainH436 of MorehH4176. And the CanaaniteH3669 was thenH227 in the landH776.
7 Yahweh appeared to Abram and said, “I will give this land to your offspring.” He built an altar there to Yahweh, who had appeared to him.
KJVAnd the LORDH3068 appearedH7200(H8735) unto AbramH87, and saidH559(H8799), Unto thy seedH2233 will I giveH5414(H8799) thisH2063 landH776: and there buildedH1129(H8799) he an altarH4196 unto the LORDH3068, who appearedH7200(H8737) unto him.
8 He left from there to go to the mountain on the east of Bethel and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Ai on the east. There he built an altar to Yahweh and called on Yahweh’s name.
KJVAnd he removedH6275(H8686) from thence unto a mountainH2022 on the eastH6924 of BethelH1008, and pitchedH5186(H8799) his tentH168, having BethelH1008 on the westH3220, and HaiH5857 on the eastH6924: and there he buildedH1129(H8799) an altarH4196 unto the LORDH3068, and calledH7121(H8799) upon the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068.
9 Abram traveled, still going on toward the South.
KJVAnd AbramH87 journeyedH5265(H8799), going onH1980(H8800) stillH5265(H8800) toward the southH5045.
10 There was a famine in the land. Abram went down into Egypt to live as a foreigner there, for the famine was severe in the land.
KJVAnd there was a famineH7458 in the landH776: and AbramH87 went downH3381(H8799) into EgyptH4714 to sojournH1481(H8800) there; for the famineH7458 was grievousH3515 in the landH776.
11 When he had come near to enter Egypt, he said to Sarai his wife, “See now, I know that you are a beautiful woman to look at.
KJVAnd it came to pass, whenH834 he was come nearH7126(H8689) to enterH935(H8800) into EgyptH4714, that he saidH559(H8799) unto SaraiH8297 his wifeH802, BeholdH2009 nowH4994, I knowH3045(H8804) that thou art a fairH3303 womanH802 to look uponH4758:
12 It will happen that when the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife.’ They will kill me, but they will save you alive.
KJVTherefore it shall come to pass, when the EgyptiansH4713 shall seeH7200(H8799) thee, that they shall sayH559(H8804), This is his wifeH802: and they will killH2026(H8804) me, but they will save thee aliveH2421(H8762).
13 Please say that you are my sister, that it may be well with me for your sake, and that my soul may live because of you.”
KJVSayH559(H8798), I pray theeH4994, thou art my sisterH269: thatH4616 it may be wellH3190(H8799) with me for thy sake; and my soulH5315 shall liveH2421(H8804) because of theeH1558.
14 When Abram had come into Egypt, some Egyptians saw that the woman was very beautiful.
KJVAnd it came to pass, that, when AbramH87 was comeH935(H8800) into EgyptH4714, the EgyptiansH4713 beheldH7200(H8799) the womanH802 that she was veryH3966 fairH3303.
15 The princes of Pharaoh saw her, and praised her to Pharaoh; and the woman was taken into Pharaoh’s house.
KJVThe princesH8269 also of PharaohH6547 sawH7200(H8799) her, and commendedH1984(H8762) her beforeH413 PharaohH6547: and the womanH802 was takenH3947(H8714) into Pharaoh'sH6547 houseH1004.
16 He dealt well with Abram for her sake. He had sheep, cattle, male donkeys, male servants, female servants, female donkeys, and camels.
KJVAnd he entreatedH3190 AbramH87 wellH3190(H8689) for her sake: and he had sheepH6629, and oxenH1241, and he assesH2543, and menservantsH5650, and maidservantsH8198, and she assesH860, and camelsH1581.
17 Yahweh afflicted Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram’s wife.
KJVAnd the LORDH3068 plaguedH5060(H8762) PharaohH6547 and his houseH1004 with greatH1419 plaguesH5061 because ofH1697 SaraiH8297 Abram'sH87 wifeH802.
18 Pharaoh called Abram and said, “What is this that you have done to me? Why didn’t you tell me that she was your wife?
KJVAnd PharaohH6547 calledH7121(H8799) AbramH87, and saidH559(H8799), What is this that thou hast doneH6213(H8804) unto me? why didst thou not tellH5046(H8689) me that she was thy wifeH802?
19 Why did you say, ‘She is my sister,’ so that I took her to be my wife? Now therefore, see your wife, take her, and go your way.”
KJVWhy saidst thouH559(H8804), She is my sisterH269? so I might have takenH3947(H8799) her to me to wifeH802: now therefore behold thy wifeH802, takeH3947(H8798) her, and go thy wayH3212(H8798).
20 Pharaoh commanded men concerning him, and they escorted him away with his wife and all that he had.
KJVAnd PharaohH6547 commandedH6680(H8762) his menH582 concerning him: and they sent him awayH7971(H8762), and his wifeH802, and all that he had.
