¹That same year, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year, in the fifth month, Hananiah the son of Azzur, the prophet, who was of Gibeon, spoke to me in Yahweh’s house, in the presence of the priests and of all the people, saying,

KJVAnd it came to pass the same year^H8141, in the beginning^H7225 of the reign^H4467 of Zedekiah^H6667 king^H4428 of Judah^H3063, in the fourth^H7243 year^H8141, and in the fifth^H2549 month^H2320, that Hananiah^H2608 the son^H1121 of Azur^H5809 the prophet^H5030, which was of Gibeon^H1391, spake^H559^(H8804) unto me in the house^H1004 of the LORD^H3068, in the presence^H5869 of the priests^H3548 and of all the people^H5971, saying^H559^(H8800),

² “Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says, ‘I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon.

KJVThus speaketh^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635, the God^H430 of Israel^H3478, saying^H559^(H8800), I have broken^H7665^(H8804) the yoke^H5923 of the king^H4428 of Babylon^H894.

³ Within two full years I will bring again into this place all the vessels of Yahweh’s house that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took away from this place and carried to Babylon.

KJVWithin two full^H3117 years^H8141 will I bring again^H7725^(H8688) into this place^H4725 all the vessels^H3627 of the LORD'S^H3068 house^H1004, that Nebuchadnezzar^H5019 king^H4428 of Babylon^H894 took away^H3947^(H8804) from this place^H4725, and carried^H935^(H8686) them to Babylon^H894:

⁴ I will bring again to this place Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, with all the captives of Judah, who went to Babylon,’ says Yahweh; ‘for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.’”

⁵ Then the prophet Jeremiah said to the prophet Hananiah in the presence of the priests, and in the presence of all the people who stood in Yahweh’s house,

KJVThen the prophet^H5030 Jeremiah^H3414 said^H559^(H8799) unto the prophet^H5030 Hananiah^H2608 in the presence^H5869 of the priests^H3548, and in the presence^H5869 of all the people^H5971 that stood^H5975^(H8802) in the house^H1004 of the LORD^H3068,

⁶ even the prophet Jeremiah said, “Amen! May Yahweh do so. May Yahweh perform your words which you have prophesied, to bring again the vessels of Yahweh’s house, and all those who are captives, from Babylon to this place.

KJVEven the prophet^H5030 Jeremiah^H3414 said^H559^(H8799), Amen^H543: the LORD^H3068 do^H6213^(H8799) so: the LORD^H3068 perform^H6965^(H8686) thy words^H1697 which thou hast prophesied^H5012^(H8738), to bring again^H7725^(H8687) the vessels^H3627 of the LORD'S^H3068 house^H1004, and all that is carried away captive^H1473, from Babylon^H894 into this place^H4725.

⁷ Nevertheless listen now to this word that I speak in your ears, and in the ears of all the people:

KJVNevertheless hear^H8085^(H8798) thou now this word^H1697 that I speak^H1696^(H8802) in thine ears^H241, and in the ears^H241 of all the people^H5971;

⁸ The prophets who have been before me and before you of old prophesied against many countries, and against great kingdoms, of war, of evil, and of pestilence.

KJVThe prophets^H5030 that have been before^H6440 me and before^H6440 thee of old^H5769 prophesied^H5012^(H8735) both against many^H7227 countries^H776, and against great^H1419 kingdoms^H4467, of war^H4421, and of evil^H7451, and of pestilence^H1698.

⁹ As for the prophet who prophesies of peace, when the word of the prophet happens, then the prophet will be known, that Yahweh has truly sent him.”

KJVThe prophet^H5030 which prophesieth^H5012^(H8735) of peace^H7965, when the word^H1697 of the prophet^H5030 shall come to pass^H935^(H8800), then^H227 shall the prophet^H5030 be known^H3045^(H8735), that the LORD^H3068 hath truly^H571 sent^H7971^(H8804) him.

¹⁰ Then Hananiah the prophet took the bar from off the prophet Jeremiah’s neck, and broke it.

KJVThen Hananiah^H2608 the prophet^H5030 took^H3947^(H8799) the yoke^H4133 from off the prophet^H5030 Jeremiah's^H3414 neck^H6677, and brake^H7665^(H8799) it.

¹¹ Hananiah spoke in the presence of all the people, saying, “Yahweh says: ‘Even so I will break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon from off the neck of all the nations within two full years.’” Then the prophet Jeremiah went his way.

KJVAnd Hananiah^H2608 spake^H559^(H8799) in the presence^H5869 of all the people^H5971, saying^H559^(H8800), Thus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068; Even so will I break^H7665^(H8799) the yoke^H5923 of Nebuchadnezzar^H5019 king^H4428 of Babylon^H894 from the neck^H6677 of all nations^H1471 within the space of two full^H3117 years^H8141. And the prophet^H5030 Jeremiah^H3414 went^H3212^(H8799) his way^H1870.

¹² Then Yahweh’s word came to Jeremiah, after Hananiah the prophet had broken the bar from off the neck of the prophet Jeremiah, saying,

KJVThen the word^H1697 of the LORD^H3068 came unto Jeremiah^H3414 the prophet, after^H310 that Hananiah^H2608 the prophet^H5030 had broken^H7665^(H8800) the yoke^H4133 from off the neck^H6677 of the prophet^H5030 Jeremiah^H3414, saying^H559^(H8800),

¹³ “Go, and tell Hananiah, saying, ‘Yahweh says, “You have broken the bars of wood, but you have made in their place bars of iron.”

KJVGo^H1980^(H8800) and tell^H559^(H8804) Hananiah^H2608, saying^H559^(H8800), Thus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068; Thou hast broken^H7665^(H8804) the yokes^H4133 of wood^H6086; but thou shalt make^H6213^(H8804) for them yokes^H4133 of iron^H1270.

¹⁴ For Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel says, “I have put a yoke of iron on the neck of all these nations, that they may serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; and they will serve him. I have also given him the animals of the field.”’”

¹⁵ Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet, “Listen, Hananiah! Yahweh has not sent you, but you make this people trust in a lie.

KJVThen said^H559^(H8799) the prophet^H5030 Jeremiah^H3414 unto Hananiah^H2608 the prophet^H5030, Hear^H8085^(H8798) now, Hananiah^H2608; The LORD^H3068 hath not sent^H7971^(H8804) thee; but thou makest this people^H5971 to trust^H982^(H8689) in a lie^H8267.

¹⁶ Therefore Yahweh says, ‘Behold, I will send you away from off the surface of the earth. This year you will die, because you have spoken rebellion against Yahweh.’”

KJVTherefore thus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068; Behold, I will cast^H7971^(H8764) thee from off the face^H6440 of the earth^H127: this year^H8141 thou shalt die^H4191^(H8801), because thou hast taught^H1696^(H8765) rebellion^H5627 against the LORD^H3068.

¹⁷ So Hananiah the prophet died the same year in the seventh month.

¹In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying,

² Yahweh says to me: “Make bonds and bars, and put them on your neck.

KJVThus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068 to me; Make^H6213^(H8798) thee bonds^H4147 and yokes^H4133, and put^H5414^(H8804) them upon thy neck^H6677,

³ Then send them to the king of Edom, to the king of Moab, to the king of the children of Ammon, to the king of Tyre, and to the king of Sidon, by the hand of the messengers who come to Jerusalem to Zedekiah king of Judah.

⁴ Give them a command to their masters, saying, ‘Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel says, “You shall tell your masters:

KJVAnd command^H6680^(H8765) them to say^H559^(H8800) unto their masters^H113, Thus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635, the God^H430 of Israel^H3478; Thus shall ye say^H559^(H8799) unto your masters^H113;

⁵ ‘I have made the earth, the men, and the animals that are on the surface of the earth by my great power and by my outstretched arm. I give it to whom it seems right to me.

KJVI have made^H6213^(H8804) the earth^H776, the man^H120 and the beast^H929 that are upon^H6440 the ground^H776, by my great^H1419 power^H3581 and by my outstretched^H5186^(H8803) arm^H2220, and have given^H5414^(H8804) it unto whom it seemed^H5869 meet^H3474^(H8804) unto me.

⁶ Now I have given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant. I have also given the animals of the field to him to serve him.

KJVAnd now have I given^H5414^(H8804) all these lands^H776 into the hand^H3027 of Nebuchadnezzar^H5019 the king^H4428 of Babylon^H894, my servant^H5650; and the beasts^H2416 of the field^H7704 have I given^H5414^(H8804) him also to serve^H5647^(H8800) him.

⁷ All the nations will serve him, his son, and his son’s son, until the time of his own land comes. Then many nations and great kings will make him their bondservant.

KJVAnd all nations^H1471 shall serve^H5647^(H8804) him, and his son^H1121, and his son's^H1121 son^H1121, until the very time^H6256 of his land^H776 come^H935^(H8800): and then many^H7227 nations^H1471 and great^H1419 kings^H4428 shall serve^H5647^(H8804) themselves of him.

⁸ “‘“‘It will happen that I will punish the nation and the kingdom which will not serve the same Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and that will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon,’ says Yahweh, ‘with the sword, with famine, and with pestilence, until I have consumed them by his hand.

KJVAnd it shall come to pass, that the nation^H1471 and kingdom^H4467 which will not serve^H5647^(H8799) the same Nebuchadnezzar^H5019 the king^H4428 of Babylon^H894, and that will not put^H5414^(H8799) their neck^H6677 under the yoke^H5923 of the king^H4428 of Babylon^H894, that nation^H1471 will I punish^H6485^(H8799), saith^H5002^(H8803) the LORD^H3068, with the sword^H2719, and with the famine^H7458, and with the pestilence^H1698, until I have consumed^H8552^(H8800) them by his hand^H3027.

⁹ But as for you, don’t listen to your prophets, to your diviners, to your dreams, to your soothsayers, or to your sorcerers, who speak to you, saying, “You shall not serve the king of Babylon;”

KJVTherefore hearken^H8085^(H8799) not ye to your prophets^H5030, nor to your diviners^H7080^(H8802), nor to your dreamers^H2472, nor to your enchanters^H6049^(H8781), nor to your sorcerers^H3786, which speak^H559^(H8802) unto you, saying^H559^(H8800), Ye shall not serve^H5647^(H8799) the king^H4428 of Babylon^H894:

¹⁰ for they prophesy a lie to you, to remove you far from your land, so that I would drive you out, and you would perish.

KJVFor they prophesy^H5012^(H8737) a lie^H8267 unto you, to remove you far^H7368^(H8687) from your land^H127; and that I should drive you out^H5080^(H8689), and ye should perish^H6^(H8804).

¹¹ But the nation that brings their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon and serves him, that nation I will let remain in their own land,’ says Yahweh; ‘and they will till it and dwell in it.’”’”

¹² I spoke to Zedekiah king of Judah according to all these words, saying, “Bring your necks under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him and his people, and live.

KJVI spake^H1696^(H8765) also to Zedekiah^H6667 king^H4428 of Judah^H3063 according to all these words^H1697, saying^H559^(H8800), Bring^H935^(H8685) your necks^H6677 under the yoke^H5923 of the king^H4428 of Babylon^H894, and serve^H5647^(H8798) him and his people^H5971, and live^H2421^(H8798).

¹³ Why will you die, you and your people, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, as Yahweh has spoken concerning the nation that will not serve the king of Babylon?

KJVWhy will ye die^H4191^(H8799), thou and thy people^H5971, by the sword^H2719, by the famine^H7458, and by the pestilence^H1698, as the LORD^H3068 hath spoken^H1696^(H8765) against the nation^H1471 that will not serve^H5647^(H8799) the king^H4428 of Babylon^H894?

¹⁴ Don’t listen to the words of the prophets who speak to you, saying, ‘You shall not serve the king of Babylon;’ for they prophesy a lie to you.

¹⁵ For I have not sent them,” says Yahweh, “but they prophesy falsely in my name; that I may drive you out, and that you may perish, you, and the prophets who prophesy to you.”

¹⁶ Also I spoke to the priests and to all this people, saying, Yahweh says, “Don’t listen to the words of your prophets who prophesy to you, saying, ‘Behold, the vessels of Yahweh’s house will now shortly be brought again from Babylon;’ for they prophesy a lie to you.

¹⁷ Don’t listen to them. Serve the king of Babylon, and live. Why should this city become a desolation?

KJVHearken^H8085^(H8799) not unto them; serve^H5647^(H8798) the king^H4428 of Babylon^H894, and live^H2421^(H8798): wherefore should this city^H5892 be laid waste^H2723?

¹⁸ But if they are prophets, and if Yahweh’s word is with them, let them now make intercession to Yahweh of Armies, that the vessels which are left in Yahweh’s house, in the house of the king of Judah, and at Jerusalem, don’t go to Babylon.

¹⁹ For Yahweh of Armies says concerning the pillars, concerning the sea, concerning the bases, and concerning the rest of the vessels that are left in this city,

KJVFor thus saith^H559^(H8804) the LORD^H3068 of hosts^H6635 concerning the pillars^H5982, and concerning the sea^H3220, and concerning the bases^H4350, and concerning the residue^H3499 of the vessels^H3627 that remain^H3498^(H8737) in this city^H5892,

²⁰ which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon didn’t take when he carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, from Jerusalem to Babylon, and all the nobles of Judah and Jerusalem—

²¹ yes, Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says concerning the vessels that are left in Yahweh’s house, and in the house of the king of Judah, and at Jerusalem:

²² ‘They will be carried to Babylon, and there they will be, until the day that I visit them,’ says Yahweh; ‘then I will bring them up, and restore them to this place.’”
